During the latest episode of Real Time with Bill Maher, Robert De Niro chatted about his decades-long career, revealed a project he missed out on and shared his thoughts on the upcoming 2024 election.
The Oscar-winning actor kicked off his appearance by reacting to the Republican response to Biden’s State of the Union address Thursday night, when Alabama Sen. Katie Britt delivered a criticism of the president and his administration’s policies.
“I don’t understand why they’d even have someone like her do it,” De Niro said. “I mean, it was so lame.”
Following the primary elections in several states on Tuesday signaling another rematch between Biden and Donald Trump in November, Maher also asked the Killers of the Flower Moon star his perspective on the upcoming election — and De Niro had one question for his fellow Americans.

A hit song by Bananarama in the ’80s told us that Robert De Niro’s Waiting. Tonight, on Real Time with Bill Maher, he finally got the chance to get a few things off his chest.
Maher tried to balance things between show business chat and trying to draw out De Niro on a few political topics. He acknowledged the actor’s greatness by reading off a laundry list of films enhanced by De Niro’s work, and asked what goes into deciding which film to work with.
“I see the possibility,” he said. “Some I’ve been involved with from the inception. They’re movies I’ve felt were worthy. I think I have a pretty good average. I just pick certain things, that I feel are good, well-written, or smart, or the director’s good. Scorsese, I just go with him no matter what’s he going to do.

David Fincher, who was set to direct a World War Z sequel before it was canceled by Paramount, is revealing some of the plans he had for the follow-up film.
In an interview with GQ UK, published online Wednesday, the Fight Club filmmaker said the zombie movie would have been a “little like The Last of Us,” the hit HBO series starring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey that premiered earlier this year
“I’m glad that we didn’t do what we were doing, because The Last of Us has a lot more real estate to explore the same stuff,” he explained. “In our title sequence, we were going to use the little parasite … they used it in their title sequence, and in that wonderful opening with the Dick Cavett, David Frost-style talk show.”

David Fincher is opening up about the scrapped World War Z sequel and revealing that it was going to be like HBO’s The Last of Us.

Brad Pitt was disappointed that his Zombie film World War Z initially wasn’t as good as he imagined it would be. But instead of letting the film be, Pitt was determined to fix the movie.

Pitt experimented with the zombie sub genre a bit in 2013 when he starred in World War Z. It was adapted from the Max Brooks book of the same name, and dealt with the world battling an unexpected Zombie attack. Pitt once remarked that the feature was the biggest movie he’d ever done. And in an interview with USA Today, he seemed very pleased with the feature. But World War Z wasn’t without a few hiccups. As proud as Pitt was of the film, he was initially left unimpressed with the project’s original ending.

On the surface, World War Z looked like a big financial success back in 2013 when it scored a whopping $540 million at the global box office. But according to Deadline, the film barely broke even for Paramount at the time. A variety of factors, including extensive reshoots, ballooned the budget up to $270 million per the outlet, plus another estimated $160 million for marketing. The Marc Forster-directed zombie blockbuster starring Brad Pitt didn’t make much of a dent for the studio. The tepid critical reception, on top of all the rumors of a troubled production behind the scenes, seemed like the final nail in the coffin for this fledgling franchise.
But according to the LA Times, Paramount and Forster had always viewed the big screen adaptation of the incredibly popular Max Brooks novel as just the first chapter of a film trilogy. And initially, Paramount did intend to move forward with a sequel.

“When you’re dead, you can’t do much,” Mel Brooks says in his first overt political statement without a punchline. It is a big turnaround from the position he took while making the 1995 vampire comedy, Dracula: Dead and Loving It. But Brooks has enough limits in his life right now. He can only see his son and grandson through protective glass. His closest friend, the late and wonderful Carl Reiner, no longer picks up morning coffee. Brooks is endorsing former Vice President Joe Biden for president because President Trump is “not doing a damn thing” about the coronavirus pandemic.
“My father, @MelBrooks, is 94. He has never made a political video. Until now,” Brooks’s son, author Max Brooks, tweeted along with a video of Mel addressing the camera while his son and grandson stand forlornly behind a glass window.

Mel Brooks made a rare political statement to endorse Joe Biden in a video the legendary comedy director’s son Max shared on social media.

In the minute-long clip, Brooks is shown quarantining in his home while his son and grandson stand behind glass doors. “They can’t be with me. Why? Because of this coronavirus,” Brooks said.

Mel Brooks is the latest in a growing number of Hollywood figures endorsing former vice president Joe Biden for the 2020 election. On Wednesday morning, the Egot’s son Max Brooks shared a video of the comedy extraordinaire explaining his decision to vote for Biden.
“Hi folks, I’m Mel Brooks and behind me you see my son and my grandson. They can’t be with me. Why? Because of this coronavirus and Donald Trump’s not doing a damn thing about it,” he says indoors as Max and Brooks’ grandson wave from outside. “So many people have died, and when you’re dead you cant do much. So I’m voting for Joe Biden.”
In his first political video ever, according to his son, the Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein writer-actor says that he likes Biden since the former Delaware Senator “likes fact” and “likes science.”
“Joe will keep us going.

In a world where ruthless governments and lawless political parties weaponize deadly viruses to take out their enemies, the graphic novel "Germ Warfare: A Very Graphic History", written by Max Brooks, author of "World War Z" and illustrated by J. Nino Galenzoga, covers the evil history of biological warfare:
"...the earliest known instances of germ warfare include 'Scythian' archers dipping their arrows into animal dung and 'Mongolians' catapulting dead bodies over city walls.
"More sophisticated germ warfare programs were developed during the First and Second World Wars, with fascist governments continuing to manufacture viruses in biochemical weapons labs today..."
"Preventing the next plague begins with education, and as taxpayers and voters we need to understand what we're up against," said Brooks at the time of the book's publishing in 2019, before anyone ever heard of the 'Wuhan Virus'.
"The experts can't help us if we don't help ourselves..."

The last time Max Brooks’ “grounded” and hard-nosed fiction about a fantastic idea was turned into a movie, we got Brad Pitt versus a swarm of millions of CGI zombies in World War Z. One can only imagine what bringing Brooks’ next book, Devolution, to the big screen will mean. But Legendary Pictures is ready to find out.
The news, which was announced via The Hollywood Reporter, revealed that despite being on bookshelves (or at least Amazon) for less than 24 hours, Devolution: A Firsthand Account of the Rainer Sasquatch Massacre has already inked a deal to get the big screen treatment with the production company that helped give us Kong: Skull Island and Godzilla: King of the Monsters. However, this is not necessarily a shock since Devolution began as a movie pitch for Brooks.

The book is Brooks' take on the Bigfoot folktale — the complete title of the tome is Devolution: A Firsthand Account of the Rainier Sasquatch Massacre — and is told both as a journal and scientific investigation.
Interestingly, this is not the first time Legendary has worked with Brooks on Devolution. In 2012, Brooks, Lost TV director Jack Bender and David Leslie Johnson set up and were to develop the concept for Legendary. But the project fell into an inactive state as Brooks reined it in, switching ...
