The planned series based on Anne Rice’s “The Vampire Chronicles” is no longer in the works at Hulu, Variety has confirmed. According to sources, Rice and her team are once again shopping her intellectual property — but this time as a much larger TV package, and as a complete buyout of the TV/film rights.
According to one insider, the new package being shopped includes both “The Vampire Chronicles” and also Rice’s “Mayfair Witches,” which is currently set up at Warner Bros. The asking price is said to be around $30 to $40 million, in addition to a $2.5 million buyout of Warner Bros.’ rights. In exchange for the huge upfront fee however, the new owner will hold the rights in perpetuity, and not just as an option.

National Geographic returns to Mars with a new angle for season two.
When Stephen Petranek was writing his book How We’ll Live On Mars, the then Administrator of Nasa and former astronaut Charles Bolden pulled Petranek aside to show him something on Nasa’s website. “It says right here on the website, in big bold letters, Nasa has no plans to send humans to Mars,” Bolden told Petranek, who’s had a long journalistic career covering emerging science and technology. Within the next year, Nasa named a director for a manned mission to Mars. We’ll stop short of giving Petranek too much credit, but it’s clear that in the years since he started writing the book, there’s been a palpable sense of excitement for pushing space exploration further than it’s ever gone before.

National Geographic has released the trailer for Season 2 of the event series “Mars,” executive produced by Brian Grazer and Ron Howard. The new episodes take place on a newly colonized planet, and frankly, the technologically impressive settings and state of adventure look ideal compared to the political mess of paranoia here on Earth.
Season 2 picks up several years into the future after the Daedalus crew, a group of carefully selected astronauts, finished building the ultimate colony on Mars called Olympus Town. The new episodes, set to premiere in Spring 2018, examines the impact that humans would have on the Red Planet.
Produced by Imagine Entertainment and RadicalMedia, “Mars” also examines the potential consequences that the planet would have on humans, such as the scientific and personal detriments. Through scripted drama, special effects, and documentary sequences, National Geographic continues to transport audiences to a different world with scientifically literate programming.

National Geographic is going back to Mars this November.
National Geographic’s Mars, the network’s first foray into the (quasi) scripted television world, was a successful mission. Continuing a trend we’ve seen with “event series” that exceed expectations, National Geographic's Mars season 2, from executive producers Ron Howard and Brian Grazer, returns on November 12th.
Mars will have a new showrunner for its second season. Dee Johnson, who was mostly recently an executive producer on Nashville for four seasons, will board the experimental docu-drama format series.
Season one is set in 2033 and follows a fictional narrative of the first human mission to the red planet, with the documentary portion exploring what it would actually take for human to get to Mars. Season two will focus on the colonization of Mars and private sector space exploration.
“Our next season is going to be more about actual colonization,...

We do not mean to harsh your buzz, Nashville Fanatics.
But...
While Cmt has, indeed, picked up Nashville Season 5, having saved the series from ABC's cancelation a couple weeks ago, sources now confirm to TV Line that two series regulars will not be making the move from one network to another.
Both Will Chase and Audrey Peebles are out.
The news should not come as a huge surprise to followers of the musical drama.
Following the dissolution of his engagement to Rayna on Season 3, Chase's Will had very little to do.
A bulk of his Nashville Season 4 storyline centered on him sticking up for Wheelin’ Dealin’ Records artist Will Lexington after he was attacked by a homophobic talk-show host.
Peeples, meanwhile, portrayed Layla, a character who hoped to avenge Jeff Fordham’s death by ruining Juliette’s romance with Avery.

Nashville fans, this news will be music to your years. A fifth season renewal for ABC's Nashville TV series is looking a bit more likely. TV Line reports Marshall Herskovitz and Ed Zwick have signed on as Nashville's new showrunners, "...in the very likely event ABC renews the bubble drama for Season 5." Herskovitz and Zwick's last TV series was the web/network hybrid quarterlife TV show, which was cancelled by NBC after just one episode aired.
According Michael Ausiello, the My So-Called Life creators are set to replace Nashville showrunner Dee Johnson, who is reportedly planning to leave the Country-Western music drama series after season four. The Nashville cast includes: Connie Britton, Clare Bowen, Hayden Panettiere, Charles Esten, Jonathan Jackson, Sam Palladio, Lennon Stella, Maisy Stella, and Chris Carmack. Last night, an odd bit of TV news popped up: according to TVLine, thirtysomething creators Marshall Herskovitz and Ed Zwick have been hired to run the fifth season of Nashville. Now, first Nashville has to be officially renewed for a fifth season, which may be harder than it seems now that the show's biggest fan, Paul Lee, is no longer running ABC. But assuming it comes back with HerskoZwick at the helm, it'd be among the weirder showrunner transitions in TV history. Now, series change showrunners all the time. Dee Johnson, whom the thirtysomething guys would be succeeding, was already a replacement for Jim Parriott, who was himself brought in because Nashville creator Callie Khouri hadn't run her own show before. Sometimes, new showrunners come from within, like The Walking Dead's transition from Frank Darabont to Glen Mazzara to Scott Gimple, or L.A. Law staff writer David E. Kelley...

Nashville is bringing back Chaley Rose‘s Zoe in Season 4. Dare we hope for a Zag Band reunion?!
Probably not, given that EW.com reports that Scarlett’s bestie — and Gunnar’s ex — will be back in town because of a “tragedy.”
Rose is slated for at least one episode in the upcoming season, showrunner Dee Johnson tells the site, though perhaps an interaction with Gunnar will cause her to extend her stay in Music City?

If you’re a Nashville fan who was gunning for Rayna and Deacon to get hitched in the Season 3 finale, you should know that showrunner Dee Johnson was ready to throw some rice right alongside you.
Johnson tells TVLine that the show’s writers “completely, totally entertained that idea,” which would have seen the terminally ill Deacon and his redheaded love officially (and legally) tie the knot just before he was wheeled into liver-transplant surgery. Instead, the couple exchanged informal, heartfelt vows, West Side Story-style.
Why didn’t Rayna and Deke make it official? Can Juliette undo the damage...

The following contains spoilers from Nashville‘s Season 3 finale. (Because it would be a terrible recap if it didn’t.)
Nashville‘s fourth season needs to get here, Stat.
While I do not actually believe that a series built on the promise of Rayna Jaymes reuniting with soulmate Deacon Claybourne would eliminate one half of that equation at this point, I’d feel a lot better knowing for certain that the Ekg flatline we see at the end of the Season 3 finale isn’t hooked up to his strapping, just-the-right-amount-of-furred chest.
And if it’s Beverly who doesn’t survive...
