Willem Dafoe has joined the cast of Paul Schrader's gritty crime-thriller adaptation of Eddie Bunker's novel "Dog Eat Dog" at Arclight Films and Pure Dopamine. Filming has just begun.

Given her recent past playing a selfish author, an evil queen and a cold executive, it’s been a while since we’ve seen the softer side of Charlize Theron. Universal is looking to bring her back to the side of the angels, however, nabbing a pitch based on Ellen Sherman’s novel Everything Nice as a potential Theron starring role.Of course the story, which Karen Croner will initially adapt for the screen, may not quite be as fluffy as it first appears. Everything Nice tells the story of Michaela, an advertising executive who is fired from her top-notch job at a big-name firm. The only gig she can find is one teaching life skills to teenage girls at a public school, a task for which she is ill suited, since she barely possesses basic social skills herself. Somehow, however, we have a feeling she’ll find a creative...

If the Internet can’t convince Eon Productions to cast Idris Elba as James Bond, perhaps his new role can land him a villain gig in Bond 24. Elba is set to voice Shere Khan in Disney and Jon Favreau's take on “The Jungle Book.” Favreau will use live-action and VFX to bring the story to the screen. Expect to see this sooner than later as Disney is neck and neck with Warner Bros. with their own version of Rudyard Kipling’s classic. [Deadline] Warren Beatty’s old friend Martin Sheen just joined the cast of his secretive Howard Hughes movie. Beatty is set to play Hughes, with the picture led by Alden Ehrenreich and Lily Collins, with Annette Bening and Matthew Broderick already signed up in supporting roles. The latest film from director Paul Weitz sits comfortably alongside his earlier comic and ultimately melodramatic explorations of 30-something adult anxieties about parenthood, mid-career crises, and personal growth. As he himself grows older, though, Weitz's indulgence in soapy sentimentality is increasing. Weitz does not receive credit for the screenplay -- that goes entirely to Karen Croner, based on a 2009 novel by Jean Hanff Korelitz -- but it's easy to imagine why the material appealed to him. Portia Nathan (Tina Fey), like the central characters in About a Boy (2002) and In Good Company (2004), is settled into a comfortable routine that is about to be shaken to its core. In her professional life, Portia has risen to a high position within the admissions office...

I love, love, love Lily Tomlin! The iconic actress is so down-to-earth and witty! And she's fantastic in the new movie .Admission. from director Paul Weitz based on the novel by Jean Hanff Korelitz and adapted by Karen Croner. Tomlin stars as Susannah, the mother of Tina Fey's character. She's a staunch feminist who may have misguided her daughter early on in life. Paul Rudd also stars in .Admission. . a sweet, smart, heartfelt film about letting someone in in your life. In this interview, we talked about:
*** Her attraction to the film
*** Her well-drawn character and her tattoo in the movie in homage to Bella Abzug, one of the leaders of the women's movement
*** The movie's crux is passion . what drives Miss Lily Tomlin?
*** Her love for Palm Springs . I invited her and partner Jane Wagner to live with me
And then...she kissed me...awwwwww. I wished that...

Although such noted scribbling types as Bret Easton Ellis and this bloke chucked their hats into the ring to write the film adaptation of 50 Shades Of Grey, producers Michael De Luca, Dana Brunetti and author E.L. James have picked Kelly Marcel to crank out the script. Marcel is a veteran of Terra Nova – though we wouldn’t expect to see any dinosaurs roaring through the new movie, even if it might add something to the plot – and has written the script for Saving Mr. Banks, which has been filming with Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson. She beat out a short list that included the likes of Dan Fogelman, Veena Sud and Karen Croner.“Kelly’s work demonstrates her flawless structural technique and passionate commitment to emotion, humour and depth of character, which is particularly visible in the celebrated screenplay for the upcoming Saving Mr. Banks,” De Luca said in a...

Studio planning adaptation of El James's erotic bestseller omits cult novelist from shortlist of four screenwriters
Universal, the studio planning a big screen adaptation of knee-trembling phenomenon Fifty Shades of Grey, is considering four writers, according to the Hollywood Reporter. They include a tried and tested screenwriter for Disney, a graduate of successful Us crime series The Killing and a writer on the cancelled sci fi show Terra Nova. Disappointingly for fans of cult novelist Bret Easton Ellis, who has been furiously touting himself for the job via Twitter, executives at Universal appear to have ignored his charms.
The four writers on the shortlist for Fifty Shades of Grey, based on El James' bestselling "spankbuster", are Dan Fogelman, Veena Sud, Karen Croner and Kelly Marcel. Before Universal and Focus anoint an actress to slip into the role of Anastasia Steele in Fifty Shades of Grey, the studio will tap a writer for Hollywood’s most coveted adaptation in years. Universal and producers Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti are now a step closer to filling that assignment after meeting to explore a quartet of writers: Karen Croner, Dan Fogelman, Veena Sud and Kelly Marcel. Although Fogelman is the most seasoned of the group, with such credits as Bolt and Cars 2, he frequently works in the family-friendly arena -- a far cry from the S&M themes depicted in E.L. James’

We reported back in late October that Girl with the Dragon Tattoo star Noomi Rapace would be acting in a boxing biopic, which is set to star her ex-husband, Ola Rapace. Now, THR says that Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke is taking the reigns of the movie, and shooting will begin in Sweden this autumn. The film tells the story of Bo “Bosse” Hogberg and his wife, the cabaret singer Anita Lindblom. The movie currently doesn’t have a title, but we know that it will follow his time as a boxer in the 60s and 70s, and the relationship that the two had as a couple.
Hardwicke directing is something that we didn’t expect, as she’s been handling American studio fare as of late. The film sounds like it’s a little more daring than her last two efforts, Twilight and Little Red Riding Hood, if only because...

Adapted from the Jean Hanff Korelitz novel of the same name, the film is set to be directed by Paul Weitz. The story revolves around a Princeton admissions officer who gets involved in a relationship with a prospective student who may not have the credentials to get a place at the Ivy League school.
The novel was adapted for screen by Karen Croner, and Weitz is also set to produce through his company, Depth of Field. The film is still in the early stages of production. Tina Fey looks to be set to star her next live-action comedy since Date Night. She is currently in negotiations to star in Admission for Universal Pictures.
Paul Weitz is directing the film based on a script to be written by Karen Croner that focuses on a Princeton admissions officer and her relationship with a potential student who may not live up to the University's standards. Weitz and Kerry Kohansky Roberts will also be producing the film under the Depth of Field Productions banner.
Fey was last seen on the big screen in Megamind for DreamWorks Aninmation and can be seen on the small screen in 30 Rock. This sounds like it could be a funny film and one that is perfect for Fey's comedic sensibilities.
I live only 30 minutes from the Princeton campus so it would be cool to see the film in production. Do you prefer Tina Fey in live-action or animated films?...

Hot off the $125 million (and counting) success of Little Fockers, director Paul Weitz has chosen his next project and is just about ready to lock up his leading lady. Emmy and Golden Globe winning actress Tina Fey is in final talks to star in Admission, based on a novel by Jean Hanff Korelitz. The film, which is being put together by Universal from a script by Karen Croner, centers on an admissions officer at Princeton who develops a relationship with a student who is not quite Princeton material. In addition, John Michael Higgins, the hilarious character actor best known for his roles in the Christopher Guest movies, has joined the already stellar cast for Cameron Crowe's We Bought a Zoo and Ron Livingston (Office Space, Swingers) has signed on to join Jennifer Garner and Joel Edgerton in Disney's The Odd Life of Timothy Green, about a couple who wishes for a child.

While most of her time is taken up co-writing, overseeing and starring in 30 Rock, comedy goddess Tina Fey does manage to find some time each year to cram a film role or two into her hectic schedule. And now she has her eye on the lead in Admission, which Paul Weitz is getting set to direct.Adapted from Jean Haniff Korelitz’s novel, the film will focus on two very different characters: Portia Nathan, the driven, dedicated but secretly troubled admissions officer at Princeton who acts as the gatekeeper to maintain the college’s Ivy League standards, and Jeremiah Balakian, a seemingly talented 17-year-old who might have the right stuff to gain access to the college, but whose rough edges mean he’s not exactly a prime candidate. The strange relationship that develops between the pair comes to change them both, and the promise of the book’s plot has...
