The Star Wars movies have earned a dedicated legion of superfans, including some willing to shell out millions for a piece of the film. A prop used by Harrison Ford’s Han Solo recently broke a Guinness World Record for the most expensive sold at auction. Here are the details of how this Star Wars collectible was taken apart and put back together again for a hefty price.

What do you get for the father who has everything? He already has every power tool on the market, season tickets to see his favorite teams, and enough cool techy toys to last him a lifetime. Although he might not fancy himself a big reader, there’s nothing more thoughtful, or personal, than a book picked just for him.

The idea of the hardcore Star Wars fan who hoards a massive collection of merchandise and refuses to let anyone touch or look at it is a well-worn stereotype at this point, but Steve Sansweet—the owner of the largest privately-owned Star Wars collection in the world—has just learned a valuable lesson in what happens when you let people get too close to your Star Wars stuff. As reported by io9, Sansweet has revealed that over 100 items have been stolen from his Rancho Obi-Wan collection in Northern California (a non-profit organization that gives the proceeds from tours to various charities), but this wasn’t some kind of nerdy smash-and-grab. It turns out that the alleged culprit was a close friend of Sansweet’s named Carl Edward Cunningham, and he had been quietly stealing items from Sansweet’s collection over the last few months and then reselling them.

The world’s largest collection of Star Wars memorabilia is officially one for the record books, and it belongs to a former journalist who once worked for Lucasfilm. For the first time in its 58-year history, Guinness World Records has included the category in its latest book, which was released Thursday. The collection consists of roughly 300,000 toys, pinball machines, action figures and other Star Wars-related stuff, though only about a third of the collection has been audited. Nonetheless, it was enough, by far, to call the collection, owned by Steve Sansweet, the biggest in the world. Story:

This past weekend, Disney chairman Alan Horn was audibly booed by fans at Disney’s D23 expo for saying nothing about “Star Wars: Episode VII" other than that he has nothing to say about "Star Wars: Episode VII." Now, most "Star Wars" fans know that it’s pretty early in the game to expect any real details, but, for those in attendance, something, anything would have been nice. (Maybe Nien Nunb could have said “hi.”) It appears, however, that what most fans wanted was to learn the title of the movie.
We are a little under two years away from the release of “Star Wars Episode VII” (assuming that “Episode VII” keeps its summer 2015 release date) and we still don’t know the official title of the movie. Is this normal for a "Star Wars" movie? Combing through the last 36 years, let’s take a look at how each of...

When he wasn't acting as the director of content management and head of Fan Relations at Lucasfilm, Steve Sansweet remained busy amassing the world's largest collection of Star Wars memorabilia and housing it all in a nonprofit museum located in Northern California that was once a chicken ranch, but is now known as Rancho Obi-Wan. Inside this ranch are over 300,000 Star Wars collectibles, and in the video below you can watch Sansweet give the folks from Tested a tour of the museum, including lots of nerdy Star Wars stories (like the one about that banner pictured above). Recently Sansweet stepped down from his post at Lucasfilm, noting, "Nearly 15 years ago I left my post as Los Angeles bureau chief of the Wall Street Journal to follow my bliss and take a...

I used to be a huge Star Wars collector. There was a time where I would sit outside of stores like Target and Toys R Us the days they got new shipments in to make sure I could get the action figures I was looking to add to my collection. Yes, I'm a geek. I don't do much of that these days because the economy sucks and money is tight.

Following in the footsteps of his longtime friend and collaborator George Lucas, it looks like Star Wars producer Rick McCallum is quietly retiring from Lucasfilm as well. In fact, that should actually be said in the past tense as LucasFilm team member Steve Sansweet announced on ForceCast (via The Playlist) that McCallum has actually already retired from LucasFilm. That tidbit went unnoticed in the frenzy of excitement the day after Disney announced their purchase of Lucasfilm and announced Star Wars: Episode VII for release in 2015. Looks like we're entering a whole new era for Lucasfilm and Star Wars. With Lucas and McCallum no longer steering the ship, this means that Kathleen Kennedy is probably inheriting all their Star Wars duties. This includes everything from the anticipated new trilogy of films to the "Clone Wars" TV series (expected to move from Cartoon Network to a Disney channel after this fifth season...

Chances are if the recent shifts in Lucasfilm's administration prove a final blow to George Lucas' overall involvement, it is producer Rick McCallum that has primed that impression for years now. Since the “Star Wars” Special Editions onward, McCallum has slowly grown into the company's most vocal member -- appearing at conventions and answering press to drum up interest -- but now in the midst of Disney's $4 billion deal, it appears the central force in Lucas' camp has filed his most crucial decision. Just one day after the groundbreaking Disney agreement, it was Lucasfilm's director of content management and fan relations, Steve Sansweet, who announced (via East Valley Tribune) on the official ForceCast podcast that McCallum is now “retired from LucasFilm,” another surprising move in a series of many. The reasons for his departure were not confirmed, but given that in May of this year, McCallum was still highly involved in.

Sorry, but this is not the news you’re looking for. Note: I wrote this blog several months ago, when Lucasfilm's Steve Sansweet first revealed plans were in place to finally bring the "Star Wars" series to high definition Blu-ray. At the time I ran through a range of deleted scenes that we might expect/hope to see on the eventual release. Since there's an official release timeframe now, I thought it would be useful to re-post this blog for your reading enjoyment.
If you read this blog with any regularity, then you know that one thing I absolutely cannot pass on is an opportunity to talk about "Star Wars." The news today is a doozy too. At long last, Lucasfilm has confirmed that the series -- both the more recent prequels and the classic original trilogy -- will get a high definition Blu-ray release.
About. Damn. Time.
Lucasfilm's Steven Sansweet confirmed the upcoming release over the weekend at C2E2 in Chicago.

Artist Ralph McQuarrie played a huge role in helping George Lucas bring the Star Wars universe to life through his concept art. Without this artists contribution to Star Wars, we would have seen a much different film. We've seen a lot of Star Wars concept art throughout the years, and it looks like there are still a few pieces out there that we haven't seen yet.
We thought that we had seen all of Ralph's Star Wars work here at Lucasfilm—literally hundreds of production paintings, matte paintings and sketches, all carefully photographed, inventoried and preserved," said Steve Sansweet, the Lucasfilm director of content management and head of fan relations. "But because his home furnace needed to be repaired a few years ago, and a forgotten bookshelf unit had to be moved to let the repairman get at it, Ralph discovered an old box on a shelf that was filled with the treasures.

It was inevitable that sometime Lucasfilm would get around to confirming that a Blu-ray special edition of all six Star Wars movies is being worked on. That confirmation finally arrived this past weekend at the Chicago Comics and Entertainment Expo (C2E2) from Steve Sansweet, the company's director of publicity.
Speaking to the audience at a Star Wars panel, Sansweet said (courtesy of IGN), "We have been at work for a couple of years working on—I won't call it the Ultimate Set because we keep finding stuff—but, a very full set of all six movies on Blu-ray with lots of extra material. We're finding all kinds of scenes from dailies that have never been seen before. Beyond all of those things that you know about… there are some real treasures." No Eta was given for when we would have to open up our wallets.

Are you ready for a sequel to The Return Of The Jedi?
At the Anaheim Comic-Con this past weekend, Steve Sansweet, the Official Spokesperson for LucasFilm, announced that there is a forthcoming sequel to Rotj coming in animated form.
The exact quote, in response to a fan asking for new adventures with favorite characters from the original trilogy was: "And you will, in the new animation."
Some of you might be puzzling, as there was news a few weeks back that LucasFilm had commissioned a new comedy series from the guys behind Robot Chicken, set in the Star Wars universe. At the moment, no one is quite sure if Sansweets' comment refers to the comedy series or a completely new animated dramatic series that will carry on the adventures.
I'm not really in favor of either one.
Hey, I'm no purist. I love the Star Wars send-ups that Family Guy and Robot Chicken have done.

You didn't have to be some intergalactic genius to predict that the Star Wars films would eventually hit Blu-ray. George Lucas and Co. usually figure out a way to incorporate new technology into their existing Star Wars franchise – and though rumors of Lucas converting the original Star Wars films to 3D are still in the whispered-about stage, it looks like we'll at least be getting all six films on Blu-ray at some point in the near future (word has it the set may drop in October 2011). Speaking at the C2E2 Convention, Lucasfilm's Steve Sansweet said this about the upcoming set: "We have been at work for a couple of years working on—I won't call it the Ultimate Set because we keep finding stuff—but, a very full set of all six movies on Blu-ray with lots of extra...

My dear wife, forever may she reign, has never seen “Star Wars” or “The Empire Strikes Back” or any of the other Wookie loving, fun filled, Lucas spawned films of mixed quality. I’ve been kind of saving the first trilogy for her for the day she could view it on the big screen TV in all it’s potential 1080P glory. It seems like the boys over at the Ranch are assembling the bits and pieces for a nearly Ultimate Star Wars Blu edition. They say nearly Ultimate because of course what can possibly come after Ultimate that would require your hard earned dollar? Steve Sansweet, Lucasfilm Director of Fan Relations spoke recently at the Chicago Comics and Entertainment Expo and was overheard saying, “We have been at work for a couple of years working on – I won’t call it the Ultimate Set because we keep finding stuff – but,...

Over the weekend at Chicago's comic book convention C2E2, Lucasfilm's Director of Fan Relations Steve Sansweet revealed that a "very full set of all six movies on Blu-ray with lots of extra material" is in the works.
Although Sansweet didn't divulge any other details, looking at past Star Wars releases, here's what we'd expect:
-- Both versions of the original films. George Lucas angered fans by only releasing "special edition" versions of the films where he added new scenes and special effects. Fans would only get the original theatrical release on DVD years later. Let's hope he doesn't make us wait again.
-- New Commentary. We'd hope for new comments from George Lucas and co. It'd be nice to get Mark Hammill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford to comment on the original three films.
-- New deleted scenes, animatics and production stills/images. There never seems to be...

So that new Star Wars animated series that LucasFilm is putting together might have shades of a Return of the Jedi sequel. We already knew it was going to be a comedy; that's why they went out and got the Robot Chicken guys. But this is something else entirely.
The news came from IGN at Chicago's C2E2 convention, where LucasFilm's Steve Sansweet answered a question about the original characters. "I would really love to see new adventures after Jedi with our favorite characters Luke, Han and Leia," the attendee suggested.
"And you will," Sansweet replied, "in the new animation."...

At C2E2 in Chicago, an announcement was made from Lucasfilm’s Director of Fan Relations, Steve Sansweet that is bound to excite every “Star Wars” fan. As SciFi Mafia reported to you earlier this month, an animated “Star Wars” television comedy series is being developed with the “Robot Chicken” creative team. Who will this new TV series follow? Sansweet drops this bomb: You will be seeing Luke, Han, and Leia in this new animated series!
Sansweet indicated that the new animated series will follow the original cast of “Star Wars” post “Return of the Jedi”.
Lucasfilms is working with Seth Green and Matthew Senreich of “Robot Chicken” along with producer and daytime Emmy and Gemini Award winner Jennifer Hill (“The Backyardians”), director Todd Grimes (“Back at the Barnyard”), and writer Brendan Hay (“The Daily Show”).
Sansweet did mention an interesting twist about the future of the “Star Wars” universe...

Following Fox's decision to release the Alien saga in a new Blu-ray edition this fall, it's been confirmed that the Star Wars saga is coming to Blu-ray in 2011. IGN's interview with Lucasfilm's fan-relations manager Steve Sansweet unearthed this long-awaited news. Until now the only versions of the 1977-2005 movies have been illegally re-distributed versions from high-definition TV broadcasts.
Sansweet says: "We have been at work for a couple of years working on—I won’t call it the Ultimate Set because we keep finding stuff—but, a very full set of all six movies on Blu-ray with lots of extra material. We’re finding all kinds of scenes from dailies that have never been seen before. Beyond all of those things that you know about… there are some real treasures."

We don't usually cover home video releases here at Script-to-Screen, but we feel like we have to make an exception for "Star Wars." At the Chicago Comics and Entertainment Expo over the weekend, Lucasfilm Director of Fan Relations, Steve Sansweet, offered up some information about the "Star Wars" films coming to Blu-ray.
He tells IGN:

After comments made by Lucasfilm this past weekend, it certainly seems that Luke, Leia, and Han will be featured in the new "Star Wars" show. Just how prominently remains to be seen. From IGN: Not many details have surfaced about the new Seth Green Star Wars comedy series that was recently announced. However, in the IGN Theater at Chicago's C2E2 convention, Lucasfilm Director of Fan Relations Steve Sansweet gave fans a nugget of information about what characters might be involved in the show. During the Q&A section of the panel, a fan said, "I would really love to see new adventures after Jedi with our favorite characters Luke, Han and Leia," to which Sansweet replied, "And you will, in the new animation." This should stoke the fires of fan speculation. Although the Seth Green/Matthew Seinrich (Robot Chicken) series is decidedly a comedic take on the Star Wars Universe,...

Alright, nerds, listen up! George Lucas is about to give you something else to complain about. Lucasfilm's PR rep Steve Sansweet revealed on the weekend that a Blu-ray boxset of the six "Star Wars" movies is currently being worked on and the release "won’t be in the too distant future" he tells IGN.
Sansweet claims work on the set has been underway for several years and will be filled with lots of extra material including "all kinds of scenes from dailies that have never been seen before."
Sansweet refused to mention a release date, but The Digital Bits claims a rough target of October 2011 is on the cards.
Meanwhile Best of Luck has hinted that the upcoming CG animated sitcom set in the 'Wars' universe that Seth Green and Matthew Seinreich are developing will be set in a post-"Return of the Jedi" time period.

Oh, to be a fan of the Star Wars franchise this week, especially if you are lucky enough to a resident of Los Angeles. Not only has it been announced the Arclight in Hollywood will be hosting a special screening of Empire Strikes Back on May 19th complete with Harrison Ford Q&A, but word on the Star Wars series on Blu-Ray is beginning to rear its glorious head, as well. IGN is reporting Steve Sansweet, Director of Fan Relations for Lucasfilm, was on hand at the Chicago Comics and Entertainment Expo (C2E2). He had this to say about Star Wars in hi-def:

Lucasfilm Director of Fan Relations Steve Sansweet made a couple of big Star Wars-related revelations this weekend at Chicago's C2E2 convention. The first of which is kind of expected: A Blu-Ray release of the six Star Wars live-action feature films is being worked on, and while no official date was announced, Sansweet says "it won't be in the too distant future." IGN Blu-Ray quotes Sansweet as touting the set as being "a very full set ... with lots of extra material" including "real treasures" like "all kinds of scenes from dailies that have never been seen before." Sounds like this will be the Ultimate Set until more extras are uncovered for the super duper ultimate release, whenever the next collector's set or format change comes along. The second bit of news is a bit more unexpected: After a fan commented that he "would really love to see new adventures...

The Star Wars movies are definitely on the way to Blu-ray, but don’t expect them just yet, says LucasFilm…
It's hardly a breathtaking revelation that George Lucas is working away on high definition releases of his six Star Wars feature films, and it had been known for a while that Blu-rays of the movies would be coming at some point.
Over at IGN, however, the site caught up with Director of Fan Relations at LucasFilm, a man by the name of Steve Sansweet, who was attending the Chicago Comics & Entertainment Expo.
Sansweet didn't give too much away about the Star Wars Blu-rays, but he did say that "We have been at work for a couple of years working on-i won't call it the Ultimate Set because we keep finding stuff-but, a very full set of all six movies on Blu-ray with lots of extra material. Earlier this month Lucasfilm announced an untitled, animated Star Wars series intended to be a comedic take on the science fiction universe. Producers Seth Green and Matthew Senreich described it as a sitcom that will “pull back the curtain on the behind-the-scenes shenanigans.”
No details have emerged since the initial announcement, but a recent event may have shed some light on where its headed. At Chicago’s C2E2 convention, Lucasfilm Director of Fan Relations Steve Sansweet spoke on a panel and fielded questions during a Q&A session. If ever there were a series of films that ought to be on Blu-ray, the 'Star Wars' films are the ones. And while folks have been clamoring for this since the medium arrived, prior to this past weekend it had been nothing more than wishful thinking (though most believed it was inevitable eventually).
