In 2004, Degrassi: The Next Generation aired what would become their most controversial episode with “Accidents Will Happen,” which premiered in Canada in two parts on January 26 and February 9, 2004. However, the episode would not see the light of day on Degrassi’s U.S. network, The N, for another two years. This sparked outrage among Degrassi fans and confusion among the show’s stars, who couldn’t understand why, out of every sensitive topic Degrassi had touched upon, the storyline in “Accidents Will Happen” was too much for America to handle.

Nearly six years after Degrassi: The Next Generation wrapped in 2015, co-creator Linda Schuyler and stars Stefan Brogren, Aislinn Paul, Shane Kippel, Luke Bilyk, Munro Chambers, Lauren Collins and more reunited to celebrate the series’ lasting impact.
The Degrassi: The Next Generation reunion kicked off this year’s Atx Television Festival on Friday. For many of the cast members, reuniting with their on-screen classmates was just like meeting with longtime school buddies as they reminisced on favorite moments from the teen drama.
“What a joy it is to be reminded of those scenes we’ve done together over the years,” Schuyler told her team.
From scenes about sexuality and abortion to mental health issues, Schuyler and the Degrassi cast reflected on how the series unapologetically tackled controversial topics, which often caused more of a stir in the United States than in Canada when they first aired. Today’s shows like Euphoria,...

Drake’s former castmates from “Degrassi: The Next Generation” had a blast reuniting for his latest video, “I’m Upset,” shot this past weekend in downtown Toronto from the Air Canada Centre, where the rap star’s beloved Raptors play basketball, in addition to the Degrassi set in north Toronto, where the long-running teen drama still films.
He released the video Wednesday night and it already has more than 2.5 million views on YouTube.
From 2001 to 2009, Drake, then known by his birth name Aubrey Graham, played Jimmy Brooks in the series, a rich kid who ends up in a wheelchair after getting shot.
He appeared in over 100 episodes, and again in “Degrassi: Minis” (2005-2007). He also released his first mixtape, “Room For Improvement,” in 2007.

Degrassi is known for tackling the complex issues that high school students face. Subjects such as teen pregnancy, drugs, school shooting and rape are all showcased, although usually handled in a conservative way. The creatives of the show, Linda Schuyler (Creator & Ep), Stephen Stohn (Ep), Stefan Brogren (Director & Cast) and Sarah Glinski (Writer & Ep) were on hand at today’s TCA to speak about tackling those issues on Netflix’s less restrictive platform. “We've…...

The Degrassi franchise has built a reputation for longevity over the course of its run, as the series focusing on the trials and tribulations of students and teachers at the fictional Degrassi school first began in 1979 with The Kids of Degrassi Street. The latest incarnation of the series, titled Degrassi: The Next Generation, has been running since 2001, and has been the starting and breakout show for numerous current stars, including rapper Drake, The Vampire Diaries star Nina Dobrev, and former 90210 star Shenae Grimes.
TeenNick, however, the show’s Us broadcaster, recently announced the cancellation of the series, bringing it to a close after 14 seasons, and signalling the apparent end of the Degrassi franchise once again. All good things must come to an end, and sadly for "Degrassi" fans, that means that the long-running teen soap is leaving the air.
"Degrassi: The Next Generation" is set to air its final episode this summer, following 14 seasons on TeenNick. The Canadian series, which started in 2001, spurred the careers of numerous stars, including rapper Drake, "The Vampire Diaries" star Nina Dobrev, and "90210" star Shenae Grimes.
According to Variety, the series will bow with a two-week finale event, beginning with an hour-long special on July 20, "It Goes There: Degrassi's Most Talked About Moments," that features interviews with cast members, creators, and fans. The special will be followed by new episodes every night of the week leading up the July 31 series finale.

Good morning!
The Arrested Development documentary makers are seeking some finishing funds. I'm sure this will happen in no time.
Annie Clark, Cristine Prosperi and Degrassi producers Linda Schuyler and Stephen Stohn talked with EW and there are a lot of great tidbits about how Fiona wasn't intended to be a lesbian character but evolved into one, and the future of her relationship with Imogen. It's a must-read for Fimogen fans!
Jane Lynch went on Gwissues this week to talk about some upcoming roles. There's never enough of the Lynch.
Author Willa Cather's personal letters are about to be published and it sounds like lesbian rumors might be true. It also appears she was born on the same day as me, so clearly she must be gay. That's how it works.
Out comic artist Nicole Georges wrote about her teenage obsession with Kurt Cobain for NPR.

Fresh off yesterday’s disappointing news that saw Bell Media confirm that they will not be moving forward with a much-deserved third season of The L.A. Complex, theTVaddict.com thought now might be as good a time as any to offer up five reasons why Netflix Canada should consider saving this national treasure.
The L.A. Complex is a good show, a really good show.
Since ratings would indicate that most of you reading this didn’t exactly take the time to check out The L.A. Complex, allow us to fill you in on a little secret: Thanks in no small part to creator Martin Gero and his writing staff’s ability to take traditional TV tropes and turn them on their head coupled with a fearless cast’s penchant for leaving it all out on the screen, The L.A. Complex was far and away the summer’s best show you weren’t watching.

Hot on the heels of today’s disappointing news that Canadian broadcaster Bell Media has opted to not move forward with a very much-anticipated third season of The L.A. Complex, theTVaddict.com reached out to Epitome Pictures Executive Producer Stephen Stohn for his reaction. See for yourself, after the jump.
“The L.A. Complex drew some of the best critical reviews of any series in Canadian television history, and enjoys support from broadcasters in 170 territories outside Canada–including most notably a valuable partnership with The CW in the United States. As well, the online engagement was tremendous. So it is especially unfortunate that the television ratings within Canada itself were too low to justify an order by Bell Media for a third season.” Stephen Stohn, Executive Producer, Epitome Pictures Inc.
Tune in tomorrow for much more on this very disappointing development…...

True Blood (Monday) | Suits (Tuesday) | Futurama (Wednesday)
Awkward. (Thursday) | Degrassi (Friday)
It's curious whether anything will—if anything can—stop TeenNick's hit series Degrassi, the landmark Canadian import that doubles as an American phenomenon where painfully earnest, coyly attractive high schoolers grippingly tackle sexuality, friendships, love, other drugs, and the growing pains that greet the tragic loss of innocence in youth. Despite an uncanny knack for launching bonafide stars (Nina Dobrev, Shenae Grimes, Drake) there's just no way that a show thrives for twelve seasons without constantly reinventing itself, determinedly keeping pace with the pulse of teenagerdom, consistently asserting its own stance within the ginormous...

When Degrassi: Showdown premieres July 16, there will be more than enough drama to go around, but we’ve got quite a few questions rolling around after checking out the first episodic trailer of the new season. Before we give you an exclusive look at the new season in next week’s Summer TV Preview Week, we’ve got 7 burning concerns with the latest promo. Watch and discuss below:
1) Why is Katie surprised that she and Drew had sex?
I mean, haven’t they been dating for foreverdom? Isn’t it about time for this sort of thing? Wait a minute, if Katie can’t remember banging Drew, this means that Katie must still be on drugs, right? Bad Katie!
2) What is with Drew’s response?
“Yeah, so, sorry that we had sex, but we need to split now so I can go back to Bianca.” Does that mean the sex wasn’t good or something?...

Fans of "The L.A. Complex" have reason to celebrate. The MuchMusic (and now The CW) show has been ordered to shoot 13 more episodes, expanding its first season from six episodes to an impressive 19.
The series, which follows a group of aspiring Hollywood hopefuls all crammed in an L.A. apartment, is produced by Degrassi's Linda Schuyler and Stephen Stohn, who know a thing or two about turning a groundbreaking series into a phenomenon.
"Bell Media [the entity that owns MuchMusic] believed in this project from the very beginning and always knew what broadcasters around the world are now getting excited about, that an authentic series about young adults struggling to follow their dreams can resonate with audiences and critics alike," said executive producer Stohn in a release. "We can't wait to create more episodes."
Co-executive producer Martin Gero added: "The team here is very excited about jumping back into this lush and provocative world to...

Canadian actor Stefan Brogren has paid tribute to his Degrassi: The Next Generation co-star Neil Hope after news of his 2007 death broke on Thursday.
Hope, who played Wheels in the Canadian teen TV franchise, was 35 when he passed away in 2007 from natural causes, but his relatives chose not to report his death at the time.
They have since confirmed the tragedy and his former fiancee, Christina Boulard, has released a statement explaining, "The family regrets to announce that Neil passed away in Hamilton, Ontario on November 25, 2007 of natural causes.
"There was some confusion regarding his passing that they do not wish to go public with, which is why they are only announcing his death now to the public and the media."
Brogren has taken to his Twitter.com page to acknowledge the reports, writing, "Sad day for Degrassi. Rip Neil."
Meanwhile, Stephen Stohn, an executive producer on the show, also tweeted, "We have respected the privacy of the family by not saying anything until now, but our entire team is very emotional about his passing."
Hope shot to fame in the 1980s on Degrassi Junior High and reprised his role with appearances on Degrassi High, Degrassi: The Next Generation, and Degrassi Talks. A memorial is being planned for May.

Heads up Degrassi fans! The adventures of Manny Santos aren't quite over yet. Cassie Steele will be reprising her Degrassi role in the new series from Epitome Pictures, "Highland Gardens."
The series will revolve around a group of Canadians looking to make it big in Los Angeles living together at the Highland Gardens Motel which was the subject of the 2004 documentary, "Camp Hollywood."
CTV picked up the show back in December, but at that point it was unclear whether or not it would be a spin off. "It might or might not be a 'Degrassi' spin-off," producer Stephen Stohn tells The Star Scoop, "we're still deciding."
It looks like the decision has been made. Currently IMDb lists Steele as the only cast member and confirms she will be playing the ever sassy Manny Santos once again.
No word on whether or not TeenNick has picked it up to air in the Us,...
