Dank Farrik! The previous episode rather sucked, and we were hoping for some upward movement in The Mandalorian Season 2 Episode 3: "The Heiress." Well, we got it.
Plenty of action abounds. But more importantly -- and more interestingly (as far as this critic is concerned) -- we have plot progression; this is the way!
But the episode's meat surprisingly does not follow any obstacle-ridden aspects of the Frog Lady egg journey from The Mandalorian Season 2 Episode 2: "The Passenger."
In fact, the continuing plot from that episode ends rather suddenly within the first couple minutes.
Of course, the larger arc involves Din seeking others of his kind along with any of the Jedi to whom he might return The Child.
But at least we not only get to see a little more of our new favorite Frog Lady, but we are introduced to Froggy Husband Guy.

These legs were made for walkin’ in Bombshell, Jay Roach’s drama about the women who took down Fox News CEO Roger Ailes.

“I hate being the story,” Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly (Charlize Theron) grouses early on in Bombshell, long before Jay Roach’s biopic has even delved into the nitty-gritty of the sexual harassment allegations against Fox News CEO Roger Ailes. For the moment, Kelly is the subject of a Twitter attack by President Trump that puts her, instead of her work, in the national crosshairs. Despite her unease with being reported on instead of reporting, this bizarre incident indirectly influences what would become an unprecedented chain reaction within the conservative news network—a historical moment that would push women who stridently describe themselves as not feminists to take care of their own and utilize a whisper network in order to oust a sexual predator.

The working title for “Bombshell” was “Fair and Balanced,” and it still feels as though that would be the better option. Jay Roach’s compelling but uneven takedown of former Fox News and Fox Television Stations czar Roger Ailes is less a fiery expression of political outrage than a work of entertainment aiming to be all things to all people.
The movie is introduced as “a dramatization inspired by actual events,” a blend of freely imagined fiction and carefully recreated reality.
The first hint that there will be liberties comes when erstwhile Fox News host Megyn Kelly opens the film as our fourth-wall-breaking tour guide. Strutting through Fox headquarters in a patriotic stretch dress, she shows us the offices where the Murdoch family holds court. We visit cramped cubicles in which Sean Hannity (Spencer Garrett), Geraldo Rivera (Tony Plana) and Greta Van Susteren (Anne Ramsay) denounce “fake news.” And we glimpse the feared second floor,...

Count Seth Meyers among those lamenting the demise of “Detroiters.”
In an op-ed for Vulture on Friday, the “Late Night” host professed his love for the sitcom, which was canceled earlier this week by Comedy Central after two seasons. “I am sad that, for now, ‘Detroiters’ will not have a third season,” he wrote. “I am hopeful that a network looking for a new jewel to fill its schedule will rescue it.”
Meyers specifically called out the episode “Hark Motors,” as something that should’ve been lauded by critics the same way that the “Teddy Perkins” episode of FX’s “Atlanta” was.

Chicago – When comedian/writer/director Mike Birbiglia is in his element, as during the interviews he conducted at The iO Theater in Chicago, he is relaxed and ardently philosophical. He has written and directed a new film, “Don’t Think Twice,” which is about a improvisation comedy troupe, but it’s also about life.
“Don’t Think Twice” – besides being a clever play on the famous Bob Dylan song title – is essentially about the stages of life, and how we react to our own ambitions. The members of the comedy troupe – portrayed by (clockwise in the picture below, starting top left) Mike Birbiglia, Kate Miccuci, Chris Gethard, Gillian Jacobs, Keegan-Michael Key and Tami Sagner – are at a crossroads in their professional and personal lives, and have to deal with the sudden uptick of fame to one of their members. As Birbiglia did with his first feature, ‘Sleepwalk with Me,’ he...

Somehow, in a TV landscape where every cable channel, streaming service, gaming platform, and smart watch has to develop at least one grim and gritty drama series, the darkest show on television isn't "The Leftovers" or even "The Walking Dead," but a silly, if stunningly committed, Comedy Central half-hour called "Review." The show, which just wrapped up its amazing second season, follows beige and bespectacled "reviewer of life" Forrest MacNeil (Andy Daly, who also executive produces the show, which is adapted from an Australian comedy) as he is assigned experiences by his viewers — What's it like to join the Mile High Club? What's it like to catfish someone? — that he must then do and rate on a five-star scale. Over the course of the first season, we saw the show tear Forrest's life apart, as he had to divorce his wife, inadvertently got his ex-father-in-law killed, and was committed to...

Chicago – iO Chicago continues the Grand Opening at its new venue with one of its most famous alumni – the illustrious Joel Murray. Besides opening the seventh season of “Mad Men” with a brilliant monologue as Freddy Rumsen, Murray brings his “Joel Murray & Friends” show to the new iO Chicago on August 30th.
Murray is the youngest of the famous “Murrays of Wilmette, Illinois,” which includes brothers Brian-Doyle, Bill and John, plus sister Nancy. He is also one of the earliest members of the former Improv Olympics – now called iO – which grew from its modest beginnings in Chicago with founders Del Close and Charna Halpern to their latest multi-theater venue on Kingsbury Street. Joel Murray comes back to his roots with “Joel Murray & Friends” in The Mission Theater at the venue, which will feature some other famous iO alumni including Jack McBrayer (“30 Rock”), Mitch Rouse (“According to Jim”), Kevin Dorff (“Conan...

Chicago – A round-up of comic stars at the TBS “Just for Laughs Chicago” this year included three notable alumni from The Second City stage. Tim Meadows (“Saturday Night Live”), Scott Adsit (“30 Rock”) and Kevin Dorff (writer/performer for “Late Night with Conan O’Brien”) all were on The Second City main stage on Wells Street in Chicago during the beginning of their careers.
HollywoodChicago.com got the opportunity to sit down for interviews with all three of these Chicago comedy alumni, and they offered not only some memories, but perspectives on their journey beyond that stage.
Tim Meadows
Tim Meadows will always be associated with his long run on “Saturday Night Live” – the longest in the show’s history until Darrell Hammond broke his record in 2005 – but he also is a seasoned improvisation veteran from The Second City (he shared a stage with Chris Farley in the early 1990s) and has starred in television,...

On Sunday, August 14, during the Del Close Marathon in New York City, an audience member, identified as Eric Angell, told an anecdote during the show Asssscat 3000 that many have perceived as a public admission of sexual assault.
After a lengthy description of the performance was provided by blogger Poupak Sepehri, a firestorm of controversy has erupted, from rape accusations to condemnation of the performers for not outright denouncing the monologist's actions.
At the August 14 show, an audience member volunteered to share an anecdote, traditionally expected to be humorous. According to Sepehri's account, Angell, a cook and host at Second City in Chicago, described an encounter he had with a female customer who expressed interest in one of the waiters at the theater. The waiter was uninterested, but passed along the woman's number to Angell, who traveled to the customer's hotel. Upon his arrival, the customer asked him to leave, but Angell insisted on remaining,...

As hard as it may be to believe sometimes, someone (or someones) actually sits down and writes a movie or TV show before you end up seeing it at your local multiplex or on your favorite TV network. The people who do the sitting and the writing are, surprisingly, called writers and, like the Directors, the Golden Globes and the Oscars, they have their own awards show.
This week, the Writers Guild of America, which is the trade group and advocate for writers, announced its nominations for outstanding achievement in feature film and television, radio, news, promotional writing, and graphic animation during the 2009 season to be honored at the upcoming 2010 Writers Guild Awards on February 20, 2010, in Los Angeles and New York.
We realize that these nominations may not be as glamorous as the Golden Globes or the Oscars, but we kinda like writers around here and think they do a pretty important job.

Awards heavyweights "Mad Men," "30 Rock" and "The Office" and buzzed-about newcomer "Modern Family" led the TV field for the 2010 Writers Guild Awards with three nominations each.
AMC's "Mad Men" and NBC's "30 Rock" and "The Office" are in the running for best drama/comedy series, and each received two nominations for episodic writing. "Family" made the cut for best comedy series, best new series and best episodic writing for a comedy series.
ABC's "Family" was one of two new shows to break into the best series categories along with Fox's quirky high-school dramedy "Glee," which faces "Family" in the best comedy series and best new series fields.
While the WGA Awards are still in its nomination phase, Fox's "The Simpsons" can already uncork the champagne. The veteran series is assured to win the animation category after landing all five nomination slots.

So another year has passed and its time for another round of awards for the people who make the television shows we like to watch.
Television is interesting these days. Never before have we seen such great, creative output. Never before have we been subjected to such drivel. It all gets paraded before us tonight, as we watch the 61st Primetime Emmy Awards (handed out, it should be noted, by the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences) on CBS, CTV in Canada.
8:00
Interesting that the Emmys chose to introduce the 2009 edition of the Primetime awards by harkening back to the early days of television. Especially as the business of television has never been closer to a complete collapse. Oh, announcer who is trying so hard to sound like a TV host from the '50s. You don't sound at all like you're a three pack-a-day smoker.
