Dinner Party — the jazz/hip-hop supergroup composed of Robert Glasper, Terrace Martin, Kamasi Washington, and 9th Wonder — brought the whole family to Jimmy Kimmel Live! for a performance of their single “Insane” with guest vocalist Ant Clemons.
Following an introduction by the host that misidentified the track as coming from their “self-titled EP” rather than their new sophomore LP, Enigmatic Society, the scene opened to the quartet and Clemons huddled on couches for a casual, impromptu hangout that was immediately inviting and effortlessly cool. The laidback and intimate setting perfectly fit the song’s vibey tone and lovelorn lyrics, while the band’s close proximity only added to the intense and intricate interplay between Glasper’s keys, Martin’s synth and vocoder acrobatics, Clemons’ vocals, and Washington’s saxophone flourishes. Watch the replay below.

Dinner Party — the jazz/hip-hop supergroup comprised of Terrace Martin, Robert Glasper, Kamasi Washington, and 9th Wonder — have shared “Insane,” a new song recorded with Ant Clemons. Listen to the single below.
“Insane” boosts a sampled drum loop from Mtume’s “Juicy Fruit” with fuzzed out bass, layering Glasper’s famous piano and Clemons’ vocals on top of the 1983 track’s syncopated rhythms. The result is what Dinner Party does best, blending the soul of R&b with hip-hop production.
Dinner Party formed back in 2020, when the group released a self-titled album that they quickly refreshed with Dessert, a new version of the LP that featured Snoop Dogg, Herbie Hancock, Alex Isley, and more. One such song, “Freeze Tag,” was one of the best releases of the year.

Melanie C danced to a Spice Girls track on the “Dancing with the Stars” Season 30 premiere and now Jimmie Allen is like, “Hold my beer.” The country star is set to hit the parquet to one of his songs on Week 2.
Allen and Emma Slater will perform the rumba to the former’s “Billboard” Country Airplay topper “Make Me Want To” on Monday. The duo scored a 22 for their first dance, the tango, which was the third lowest score of the night, but the rumba could be a hit or a miss for any couple because of the hip action that may be too early in the game for some to nail. The rumba is one of six dances this week, the others being Viennese waltz, foxtrot, samba, tango and cha-cha. Speaking of hip action, Matt James and Lindsay Arnold are the only ones doing samba.

“Good evening America, proud to be here in cold Washington DC,” said Bruce Springsteen on Wednesday night, kicking off the Celebrating America apogee of today’s unprecedented inauguration of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.
If you had any questions about the tone the concert special was going to aim for, the Boss’ choice of an acoustic rendition of his hymn-themed “Land of Hope and Dreams” should have provided the answer. The Ricky Kirshner- and Glenn Weiss-produced event was more a steady commemoration than a celebration for a wounded nation and body politic.
You can put all the Black Puma, Tim McGraw and Tyler Hubbard, DJ Cassidy, Ozuna and Luis Fonsi, Katy Perry, Foo Fighters, prerecorded Justin Timberlake, Ant Clemons and Demi Lovato you like on-screen, and please do. However, the core of tonight was always to be found in Springsteen’s lyric of “faith will be rewarded.”

Lady Gaga delivered a rendition of the national anthem at Joe Biden’s inauguration that was both respectful, and very Lady Gaga.
Dressed in a tight black long-sleeved shirt embellished a golden dove brooch, and a billowing, bright red dress, Gaga sang into a golden microphone. She drew out the song’s notes, singing with proper, Streisand-esque pronunciation that nonetheless featured many flourishes.
She raised her left fist on the word “proudly,” and gestured with her right hand throughout the song. She brought flourishes on “home of the brave,” and drew out “banner yet wave.” And, as she often does after performances, she was crying gently after she finished.

Last week, Colbert went live “unexpectedly” following the chaos in the Capitol when a mob attacked the seat of power, saying that January 6 was a “horrifying” day that would go down in U.S. history.

The R&b field at the Grammys is often one of the most competitive. This year we have everything from surprise newcomers to established veterans all in the running for gold. So let’s dive in to figure out who will win and who could potentially upset.
SEELuke James on his Grammy nomination for ‘To Feel Love/d’ and why this album felt like his ’emancipation’ [Exclusive Video Interview]
Best R&b Performance
This is probably an easy win for Beyoncé with “Black Parade.” The song is nominated for three other awards, including Record and Song of the Year, and it’s the only nominee in this category to get into Best R&b Song. However, watch out for an upset, since past artists like Rihanna and H.E.R. have lost here despite nominations in the general field.

Last Christmas, Kanye West gifted fans with the gospel-inspired Jesus Is Born, his ninth album and first with the Sunday Service Choir. On Friday evening, the rapper-producer turned the holiday into a new tradition, releasing a five-song EP titled Emmanuel “inspired by ancient and Latin music.”
Billed in a statement accompanying the surprise release as a “celebration of the miracle of the birth of Jesus Christ,” the 12-minute EP, executive produced and composed by West, include the Christian prayer “Requiem Aeternam” (“Eternal Rest”) and the choral work “O Magnum Mysterium.

Ant Clemons and Justin Timberlake have released their new song “Better Days.” The single was accompanied by a debut performance video for Rock the Runoff, a virtual concert fundraiser put on by Stacey Abrams and Fair Fight on December 3rd.
“We started this record after a conversation about the state of the world after our first Zoom call,” Clemons says. “I started on this idea, sent it over to Justin and we collaborated over the next few months, and piece by piece, we constructed this small offering to the world.

It's 2020, so it seems appropriate that when the Grammy nominations for 2021 were announced on Nov. 24, they were a hot mess. Some of the nominees were well-deserved, like Chika and Megan Thee Stallion's nods for best new artist and BTS making history with their nomination for best pop duo/group performance for "Dynamite," but the snubs were glaringly obvious.
I may have been distracted by the crumbling of our democracy for a bit, but I know for damn sure that men weren't the only artists coming out with R&b albums in the last year. So, why are they the only ones nominated for the category? While the nominees for best R&b performance, traditional performance, song, and progressive album have both men and women, the best R&b album category is solely made up of men. No disrespect to Ant Clemons, Giveon, Luke James,...

North Carolina rapper Rapsody has shared a scathing new song, “12 Problems,” which will appear on the upcoming Roc Nation social justice charity compilation, Reprise, out October 9th.
“12 Problems” boasts production from Don Cannon and Cubeatz, who pair concrete drums and rumbling bass with a loop of disconcertingly heavenly choral vocals. On the track, Rapsody spits a pair of visceral verses that tackle police brutality, the prison industrial complex, the War on Drugs and more, pulling it all together with a chorus that puts a new spin on a classic Jay-Z...

The Late Late Show have taken “Carpool Karaoke” to new heights in their latest segment with Kanye West. In the clip, the rapper joins host James Corden on an actual airplane to discuss his new album Jesus Is King and perform several of songs.
In the segment, dubbed “Airpool Karaoke,” Corden’s flight home to La (Flight #808) is canceled, so he calls up West and joins him onboard a plane. It turns out not to be a private jet, but actually a regular airline where West is sitting in coach.

The artists, who appear on the album version of the song, took the stage with West and his massive choir, with Kenny G opening the performance. Both members of Clipse joined West for a fast-talking verse mid-song.
