Remember how Liam Neeson, at one point in his career, decided he would play only action heroes and how most of his recent characters were basically Bryan Mills from Taken in a different context? Well, it seems that another acting legend has chosen the same path, as Oscar-winner Russell Crowe is once again going to play an exorcist in the upcoming movie The Exorcism, which is set to be released on June 7, 2024. Now, the first official trailer for the movie has been released and we are going to show it to you below.
Now, our introduction was – in case you do not know – like this because Russel Crowe starred as an exorcist in the 2023 movie The Pope’s Exorcist, which – believe it or not – has absolutely no connection to The Exorcism. It seems that Crowe liked the previous role so he decided to reprise it but in a completely unrelated movie.

It may not have been his plan, but Russell Crowe is capitalizing on the return of the iconic “The Exorcist” franchise with separate standalone religious horror films “The Exorcism,” out June 7, and 2023’s “The Pope’s Exorcist.”
Crowe leads Joshua John Miller’s “The Exorcism” as an actor facing demons — maybe literal ones. Consider it a meta twist: The film centers on Anthony Miller (Crowe), a troubled actor who begins to unravel while shooting a supernatural horror film. His estranged daughter, Lee (Ryan Simpkins), wonders if he’s slipping back into his past addictions or if there’s something more sinister at play.
The buzzy cast includes Sam Worthington, Chloe Bailey, Adam Goldberg, David Hyde Pierce, Josh Warren, Adrian Pasdar, and Tracey Bonner.
Director Miller co-wrote the script with M.A. Fortin. “The Exorcism” marks Miller and Fortin’s second feature, after the 2015 horror comedy “The Final Girls.” They also co-created the...

The show was also previously known to premiere sometime next month, but we now have a release date as Netflix announced the premiere will be on March 7.

Jon Glickman is in talks to become the next CEO of Miramax Films. a post that has been vacant since Bill Block exited last fall.
Glickman left MGM and formed Panoramic, a monied venture that would be acquired as part of the deal if it makes, our sister publication THR reported and Deadline confirmed. We’ve heard there has been at least one more candidate, so it is not clear at this moment if the deal will close.
A well liked seasoned production executive, Glickman ran Spyglass for a decade before his run at MGM. He was very involved in the Daniel Craig James Bond films, and the Creed films.
Block’s contract was not renewed by Miramax, which is 51% owned by beIN and 49% by Paramount Global. While the company’s profits grew and films like the Halloween relaunch, The Gentlemen, The Beekeeper, and the Best Picture nominated Alexander Payne-directed The Holdovers,...

Miramax may have found its new leader. Jonathan Glickman, the former MGM executive, is in talks to join Miramax as its CEO, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.
He would step in for former CEO Bill Block, who departed last year after a six-year run.
Glickman served as motion group president at MGM for nine years, where under his tenure, James Bond became a billion-dollar franchise. He also shepherded the rejuvenation of the Rocky franchise, relaunching it as the Creed movie series starring Michael B. Jordan. He departed the studio at the top of 2020 for a first-look producing deal with MGM, and two years later launched Panoramic Media.
As part of his deal to become CEO, Miramax would acquire Panoramic, which has its hand in several noteworthy properties, including the Addams Family animated movies and the Netflix Addams-centric series Wednesday, which helped propel star Jenna Ortega to the A-list.

After working together on the surprisingly good old school action movie The Beekeeper, director David Ayer and actor Jason Statham are set to reteam on another action project, Levon’s Trade. And this time they’ll be working from a screenplay that was written by Sylvester Stallone! (With some revisions by Ayer.) Levon’s Trade was announced a few months ago, and Deadline reports that it has just secured distribution through Amazon MGM. Amazon MGM will be giving the film a wide theatrical release in the U.S., while Prime Video takes streaming rights in a slew of major international territories. “Outside of the Prime Video international territories (where the film may go online only), producers Black Bear have sold the film independently to theatrical distributors in multiple overseas markets.”

Exclusive: In a lucrative pact, Amazon MGM Studios has landed U.S. theatrical rights to Levon’s Trade, with Prime Video taking streaming rights in a slew of major international territories, we can reveal.
As we told you last year, the film helmed by David Ayer (Suicide Squad) will star Jason Statham (Fast & Furious franchise) and hail from producers Black Bear and BlockFilm. The screenplay was adapted by Sylvester Stallone (Creed), with revisions by Ayer, and is based on prolific comic author Chuck Dixon’s first novel in the “Levon” series.

While there are plenty of movies to catch up with during the holiday break, I recommend you make time for The Holdovers. The Alexander Payne-directed comedic drama stars Paul Giamatti in one of his most outstanding roles, with Da’Vine Joy Randolph and Dominic Sessa in his feature film debut. The Holdovers is already available on PVOD, but it’s coming to Peacock on December 29.
Some people enjoy spending holidays alone, but for others, it’s a painful reminder of having no one else to share the merriment and make new memories. In Alexander Payne’s The Holdovers, Paul Giamatti’s Paul Hunham learns the value of opening his heart to a troubled student during a lonely Christmas break. The feature marks a welcomed return for Payne, whose previous directorial effort was for the social satire Downsizing, starring Matt Damon, Christoph Waltz, and Hong Chau.

Alexander Payne’s bittersweet Christmas dramedy “The Holdovers” is hitting Peacock on Dec. 29.
The movie, from Focus Features, follows three lonely people stuck at a snowy boarding school over the holidays. It debuted in theaters in October and earned rave reviews, including from Variety‘s own chief film critic Peter Debruge, who wrote that Payne’s “portrait of a prickly history teacher is the rare exception to the complaint that ‘they don’t make ’em like they used to.'”
Set in 1970, “The Holdovers” stars Paul Giamatti as Paul Hunham, a hard-ass, curmudgeonly history teacher at an elite boarding school who is tasked with looking after the teens who can’t come home for the holidays. When all of the other students are thrown a life raft, Angus Tully (Dominic Sessa) is left shipwrecked with just his teacher and the kitchen manager Mary (Da’Vine Joy Randolph), who is grieving the loss of her son.

Actor Idris Elba and media mogul Tyler Perry once collaborated for the feature Daddy’s Little Girls. But Elba’s time on set didn’t seem to change the actor’s mind on some of Perry’s work.

Elba was already very familiar with Perry’s work. In 2007, he co-starred alongside Gabrielle Union in the Perry picture Daddy’s Little Girls. It was a bumpy start to the AFM’s tenure at new home Le Méridien Delfina. Most industry we spoke to were unhappy about something venue-related whether it be the noisy strikes that took place all week, cost, size of rooms, “maze-like” structure, slow lifts (the fire department was reportedly called Friday to help guests stuck in one of the two lifts serving the hotel’s lobby), parking issues, location or general aesthetic. Talk of alternatives continues to bubble. Miami and Las Vegas were mooted destinations among disgruntled industry. But a reimagined fall market has been a long-running point of discussion and many still think Los Angeles offers more than most cities. AFM organizers IFTA told us they have a multi-year deal with the Méridien so it may be a case of listening, learning and improving where possible.

Jason Statham must have enjoyed working with David Ayer on “The Beekeeper.” He’s re-upping to headline Ayer’s next action film, “Levon’s Trade.”
Based on the novel by famed comics author (and the creator of Batman arch-foe Bane) Chuck Dixon, Sylvester Stallone will adapt the crime thriller. This marks a rare occasion whereby Stallone writes a film in which he doesn’t star. The 2013 Statham action drama “Homefront” remains an underrated gem of a genre flick.

Exclusive: Black Bear and BlockFilm — the new production label of former Miramax boss Bill Block — are set to heat up the AFM market some more today with action movie Levon’s Trade, which will star Jason Statham (Fast & Furious franchise) and be directed by David Ayer (Suicide Squad) from a screenplay adapted by Sylvester Stallone (Creed).
The project marks Stallone’s first screenplay since Rambo: Last Blood in 2019 and Creed II in 2018. The screen icon, who was famously Oscar-nominated for his Rocky screenplay in 1977, has adapted Levon’s Trade from the novel of the same name by comic author Chuck Dixon. The book is the first of eleven in the popular Levon Cade thriller series. Stallone’s Balboa Productions had previously developed the project as a TV series.
The movie will chart how Levon Cade (Statham) left his “profession” behind him to go ‘straight’ and work in construction. He...

Miramax has prevailed in the bidding war for television rights to the “Halloween” horror franchise, meaning Michael Myers could soon be slicing and dicing his way across the small screen or assorted streaming platforms. The indie studio beat out other contenders, including A24, which was also in the mix for the rights, according to an insider with knowledge.
The auction was held by Malek Akkad’s Trancas International Films, which controls the franchise’s TV rights. It makes sense that Miramax would move aggressively to nab the option to make a television off-shoot, as the company shares ownership of the film rights with Trancas. Plus, the horror franchise has been very lucrative for Miramax, which also co-produces the “Scream” movies.
The deal comes a week after Miramax CEO Bill Block was canned from the company’s top post after overseeing a lackluster run of films such as “Confess, Fletch” and “He’s All That.

“The Home” has found a home at Lionsgate, TheWrap has learned. The Santa Monica-based studio snapped up domestic distribution rights to the Miramax horror thriller. Pete Davidson headlines while James DeMonaco helmed the feature. The picture is about a former foster child who begins working in a retirement home. Spoiler: The elderly residents and their caretakers have some very diabolical secrets.
The former “Saturday Night Live” castmember previously co-starred in the A24 horror comedy “Bodies Bodies Bodies.” However, this will presumably be a more straightforward (or straight-faced) shocker. DeMonaco previously wrote and directed the first three “The Purge” films and has remained relatively hands-on with the franchise.
“We went into ‘The Home’ not knowing what to expect and James and Pete delivered an exhilarating ride of a movie that is pure suspense-filled fun and just plain bonkers,” stated Charlotte Koh. Lionsgate’s EVP of acquisitions and co-productions boasted that “Audiences...

There’s a new horror film called The Home coming our way from The Purge franchise creator James DeMonaco – and Deadline reports that Lionsgate has picked up the U.S. distribution rights to the film with the plan to give it a theatrical release sometime in early 2024.
Scripted by DeMonaco and Adam Canto, The Home sees Pete Davidson (Saturday Night Live) taking on the role of Max, a troubled man who starts working at a retirement home and realizes its residents and caretakers harbor sinister secrets. As he investigates the building and its forbidden fourth floor, he starts to uncover connections to his own past and upbringing as a foster child.
Marilee Talkington (See), Matthew Miniero (Boarding School), David Moreland (Donnie Darko), Jimmy Gary Jr. (Orange Is the New Black), Daphne Rey (Abbott Elementary), and Jagger Nelson (The Last Nazi) are also in the cast.

Exclusive: Lionsgate has closed a U.S. deal for The Home, the James DeMonaco-directed thriller that stars Pete Davidson. The film was made be Miramax, and it screened for buyers outside competition at the 2023 Toronto Film Festival in the Industry Selects category that the festival started to highlight commercial films.
If you’ve been scoring from home, this goes down as another deal from TIFF 2023. After a slow start, the festival has led to a wellspring of film deals, one of the fest’s strongest showings in years.
The deal closed after the exit last week of Miramax CEO Bill Block, who made the film and placed it at TIFF. On the Lionsgate side was Charlotte Koh, EVP Acquisitions and Co-Productions, along with the film’s producers, Block and Sebastian K. Lemercier. Look for this one to get a theatrical release in the early part of 2024.

“With the new world order you are going to see much lower budgets,” Miramax TV boss Marc Helwig has predicted, as he forecast the market for first-look deals will “further contract.”
A recent Miramax show for Netflix UK cost somewhere between £5M ($6.1M) and £7M ($8 .6M), a far cry from the blank cheque days of past years, Helwig revealed.
“We see opportunity internationally at significantly lower budgets and in the U.S. I think we will see budgets contracting in the way that the landscape is contracting,” he told a Mia Market panel titled The Producer’s Role. “With the new world order you are going to see lower license fees and much lower budgets.”
Helwig was speaking in Rome, Italy at the film and TV industry event Mia.
