Now that Jonathan Majors appears in two Netflix movies, Da 5 Bloods and , which performance do you prefer? Let’s unpack how these two roles compare and contrast.
Majors plays David, the loyal and compassionate son of former Vietnam soldier Paul (Delroy Lindo), in Spike Lee’s Da 5 Bloods and a bitter, wronged son in The Harder They Fall. Up front, we should say that the two movies have one amazing connection: Majors co-stars with Lindo in both, and the two actors give great performances in both.
However, as Lindo’s son in Bloods, Majors plays a young man with a much milder temper. As a college professor sporting retro T-shirts and caps worn backward, he is at first fully uninterested in his father’s trip back to Vietnam to try to right a wrong and find a hidden fortune. Yet Majors follows him there, trying to reason with...

Earlier this year, it was revealed that frequent collaborators Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan – who have worked on Fruitvale Station, Creed, Black Panther, and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever together as director and cast member, and have other collaborations that Coogler didn’t direct – have been developing a new project in secret. Coogler has written the script for this project, which is being described as both a genre picture and a period piece that Coogler will be directing and Jordan is attached to star in. The project is set up at Warner Bros., is expected to have a budget of around $90 million, and is scheduled for a theatrical release on March 7, 2025. Last week, we heard that Jack O’Connell (Unbroken) and Delroy Lindo (Get Shorty) were in talks to join Jordan in the cast. Now The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed the deals with O’Connell and Lindo have closed and they’re...

About two and a half years have gone by since it was announced that Delroy Lindo – whose credits include Get Shorty, Da 5 Bloods, The Core, Malcolm X, and The Harder They Fall (plus more than 65 others) – had signed on to join Mahershala Ali in the cast of the Marvel Cinematic Universe reboot of Blade. While we wait to see if that Lindo will still be in that vampire hunter movie when it finally goes into production, The Hollywood Reporter has broken the news that Lindo has been cast in the mysterious genre project that’s coming our way from frequent collaborators Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan – who have worked on Fruitvale Station, Creed, Black Panther, and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever together as director and cast member, and have other collaborations that Coogler didn’t direct. This project is shrouded in secrecy, but is rumored to be a vampire story.

Klaudia Reynicke’s compact feature Reinas deals in intimate moments with an understated charm.
The film, which premiered in the World Cinema Dramatic competition at Sundance, takes place in Lima during a tumultuous summer in 1992 and chronicles an unsteady reunion between a father and his two daughters. It’s a quiet study of paternal redemption, much like In the Summers, another one of this year’s festival offerings. Here, as in Alessandra Lacorazza’s debut, the complexities of a seemingly simple relationship reveal themselves over the course of slow summer days. Reynicke (Love Me Tender, Il Nido) shapes a moving character study of a family trying to ground itself against the backdrop of a shaky political landscape.

But there's one large blot on Tasha's marital landscape: her husband's (Mison) ex-wife (Montgomery) won't leave them alone and seems intent on staying in the picture.

“The story itself is just so compelling… it’s all about healing,” shares Caroline B. Marx about what drew her to the new Hulu series “UnPrisoned,” which centers on a daughter attempting to reconcile with her father after his 17-year prison sentence. The costume designer appreciated that the show is “based on reality” — it draws inspiration from the life of creator Tracy McMillan — and that it is “socially relevant.” Watch our exclusive video interview above.

‘UnPrisoned’ Creator Tracy McMillan Breaks Down Series Finale, Shares Storyline Ideas for a Season 2
“UnPrisoned” creator and executive producer Tracy McMillan says she’s happy with the outcome of her dramedy, and tells TheWrap that she already has storyline ideas for a second season.
“I’m really pleased with where we ended up and where we took these characters,” McMillan said. “I’m excited to see where we go next. I feel like we really told a story about a family trying to put itself back together again and we told it with a lot of heart and a lot of humor.”
The Onyx Collective-Hulu original series dropped all its eight episodes on Hulu on March 10, and it is now Onyx’s most-watched Hulu premiere to date, as well as the most-watched Hulu Original scripted series thus far this year, as far as hours watched, according to Onyx.

Delroy Lindo isn’t the type to map out a five or 10-year plan for his life. “Apparently I’m not built like that,” the veteran actor says. But when it comes to his career, the idea, as he explains it, was to always “quote-unquote continue working as best as I could.”
At 70, Lindo is currently the lead in Hulu’s half-hour comedy UnPrisoned alongside Kerry Washington. He stars as Edwin, a formerly incarcerated father striving to repair his relationship with his daughter Paige, played by Washington. Hulu's "UnPrisoned" is the unconventional father-daughter story we've yet to see on television, but it's a necessary watch that speaks to a lot of real-world topics. Daniela Fejerman and Elvira Lindo’s “Someone Who Takes Care of Me,” a celebration of actors, their passion, craft and historical legacy, opened this year’s Malaga Film Festival in a fitting tribute to the Spanish entertainment industry.
The film, which screened out of competition, centers on three women whose careers have spanned stage, film and television, actresses of different generations whose fortunes in life have greatly differed and who struggle with untold secrets and unresolved conflicts.
Aura Garrido stars as Nora, a young, award-winning actress with a promising future who carefully balances between the two main pillars in her life, her grandmother Lilith (Magüi Mira), who reigned for decades as a renowned theater star, and her mother Cecilia (Emma Suárez), whose career has languished after having achieved some glory in the 1980s, a decade of excess in which she heavily partook.

The Oscars telecast is our top pick among TV awards contenders to watch this weekend, both because it’s necessary viewing if you care about awards, and because it’s an awards contender in its own right. Every year, the show picks up some Emmy nominations in variety special categories. Our other picks are streaming series that have come out in the past week or are coming out this weekend that could pick up some nominations this spring.
The contender to watch this weekend: The 95th Academy Awards
The Oscars! You love them, even when they drive you crazy. This year’s ceremony is once again hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, who will try to return the show to some sense of normalcy after the poorly received experimentation of 2021 and the chaos of 2022. “Everything Everywhere All at Once” is projected to dominate. If the multiverse dramedy doesn’t win Best Picture,...

Tracy McMillan, the creator and executive producer of Onyx Collective/Hulu’s newest dramedy “UnPrisoned,” says she didn’t create the series as a “favor” for the audience, but rather as an outlet to work through her own trauma.
She’s an author, realtionship expert, TV writer and now the creator of “UnPrisoned,” a half-hour dramedy based on McMillan’s life adjusting to her now-late father re-entering her life after being freed from prison. The series stars Kerry Washington, who plays Paige, the “UnPrisoned” version of McMillan. While Paige’s father’s (Delroy Lindo) transition out of incarceration establishes the show, viewers eventually peel back even more layers of her life, which involves traumatic memories from prison visits and living in foster homes.
The storyline mirrors McMillan’s real life growing up with a criminal for a father and going in and out of foster homes. And while it’s...

As a performer, Kerry Washington is particularly adept at conveying uptightness — her crispness of bearing and her rat-a-tat delivery suggest a certain passion for organization, for rigor. This was the ingredient that helped elevate “Scandal,” and the emotionally chaotic but professionally fastidious character of Olivia Pope. Now, on the Hulu sitcom “UnPrisoned,” Washington’s back to the angle that suits her best — and at the heart of a sweetly intended show of disarming quality.
Here, Washington plays Paige, a relationship therapist whom viewers may not be shocked to learn hasn’t quite got herself figured out. Her tendency to dispense advice about fixing romantic partnerships rubs up against the fact that she makes poor choices. We learn, gradually, about the role model she’s emulating in her own way: Her father, Edwin, newly released from prison, is at once astoundingly charismatic and someone with an entangled personal life. He moves...

Get ready to feel some feelings over in Hulu as the streamer launches UnPrisoned (a new series from the platform’s Onyx Collection), a new half-hour comedy featuring Scandal‘s Kerry Washington and Da 5 Bloods‘ Delroy Lindo as an entertaining father-daughter duo. Inspired by the life of creator and executive producer Tracy McMillan, Washington portrays Paige, a perfectionist relationship therapist, and single mom to son Finn (Faly Rakotohavana). The story kicks off with the day she’s meant to pick up her father Edwin (Lindo) from prison where he’s been confined for nearly two decades. Eager to turn a new leaf upon his release, Edwin must do what he can to convince Paige that he’s changed, but not all habits can be dropped so easily. Initially reluctant to take Edwin into her home and introduce him to her son, Paige begins to realize it’s the only option...

Like any good shrink, Hulu’s UnPrisoned begins by meeting its characters where they are, and where they are at first seems to be an odd-couple comedy. Paige (Kerry Washington) is a therapist whose Instagram-friendly polish masks a messy personal life; her father, Edwin (Delroy Lindo), is a natural charmer fresh off a 17-year prison sentence. It doesn’t take a relationship expert to foresee the battles to come over old grudges, new boundaries or Paige’s teenage son Finn (Faly Rakotohavana) — and indeed, most of them come to pass over the season’s eight episodes.
But also like a good shrink, UnPrisoned has no interest in sticking to the surface. It wants to dig and dig and dig, all the way down to the kinds of formative childhood traumas that take a lifetime to unpack. The journey isn’t always a pleasant one; the contrast between the series’ bubbly...

“I’ve got one daughter, and you’ve got one daddy,” Edwin (Delroy Lindo) reminds his daughter Paige (Kerry Washington) in the trailer for the new Hulu series “UnPrisoned.” Their relationship is at the heart of the comedy, in which they reunite after Edwin spent 17 years in prison on drug charges. Based on writer and executive producer Tracy McMillan’s own life, the show will chronicle how that reunion unfolds and the impact Edwin has on Paige and her son, Finn (Faly Rakotohavana), when he moves in with them. All ten episodes premiere on Friday, March 10. Watch the full trailer above.
The trailer also offers glimpses at the adventures that await the family: Paige pursues a dream of owning a home — and gets a cathartic moment when she takes a sledgehammer to the dated wood paneling in the living room; Edwin teaches Finn how to drive and how to deal...

The cast of Hulu’s latest dramedy “Unprisoned” kept the family spirit alive at the show’s premiere at the Hollywood Legion Theater on Thursday night.
The show’s cast and crew — including Kerry Washington, Delroy Lindo, Faly Rakotohavana, Marque Richardson, Jee Young Han, Jordyn McIntosh, showrunner Yvette Lee Bowser and creator Tracy McMillan — examined what it means to be a “traditional” family on the red carpet before a screening of the first two episodes.
The series follows relationship therapist and single mom Paige (Washington), “whose life is turned right-side-up when her dad (Lindo) gets out of prison and moves to her house to live with her and her teenage son,” according to the show’s official synopsis.
“I wanted to show a family that every person in America would identify with, even though they’re facing very specific circumstances,” McMillan told Variety. “This is at its heart, a father-daughter story.

“UnPrisoned” actor Delroy Lindo and showrunner Yvette Lee Bowser have found that opportunities for Black creatives have increased since their early years in the television and film business, saying that their new Hulu series serves as a “present-day corrective” in tackling systemic issues.

Will “The Fabelmans” pull a “Power of the Dog”? Is Danielle Deadwyler the Delroy Lindo of the year? Gold Derby editors and Experts Christopher Rosen and Joyce Eng are here to answer your burning questions in a mailbag episode.
Last season, Best Picture frontrunner “The Power of the Dog” earned 12 Oscar nominations but wound up winning just one, Best Director for Jane Campion. Will that same fate meet Steven Spielberg? “The Fabelmans” has lost some steam in recent weeks, including the No. 1 ranking in the Best Picture odds to “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” but Spielberg remains on top in Best Director. That category certainly feels like the best and most obvious place to award the film as other categories feel more out of its reach, but there are some key differences between last year’s race and this year’s.

“The Voice” Season 22’s premiere week continued on September 20 with Camila Cabello, John Legend, Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani all continuing to build their teams during the blind auditions. Since only Camila used her block during Monday’s episode, that meant everyone else had the power in their pocket to block a rival coach from acquiring an artist for their teams. That may come in most handy for Blake. The eight-time winner’s resume certainly hasn’t helped him so far this season. In the two-hour season premiere Blake failed to secure a single artist on his team. Will his luck change tonight?

“Hypochondriac” informs viewers right away that it is “based on a real breakdown,” which certainly provides a new wrinkle on the now-wildly-overused “true story” proviso. Nonetheless, clarity of hindsight is not a major virtue in this adventurous first feature by writer-director Addison Heimann.
The offbeat indie drama features Zach Villa as a Los Angelean whose troubled past threatens to unravel his domestic partnership and his very sanity. The combination of gay protagonists, mental illness exploration, horror tropes, and surreal elements that gesture toward “Donnie Darko” make for an ambitious mix that holds attention, even if the uneven, somewhat muddled results are ultimately more effortful than insightful.
Following a festival tour that includes a midnight berth at SXSW and fitting slot in genre-focused Fantasia, XYZ Films will open the film in limited release on July 29, with digital and VOD release following Aug. 4.
