Reba McEntire jumped to good friend Dolly Parton’s defense after The View co-host Joy Behar insulted the country music icon. Why would the journalist have anything negative to say about the “9 to 5” singer? Keep reading for all the details on the feud.
The View Co-Host Shades Dolly Parton
Pop singer Beyoncé released her first country album last month to mixed reviews. One of the tracks on the Cowboy Carter is a cover of Dolly Parton’s major hit “Jolene.” Beyoncé didn’t stay with the original lyrics, however. Dolly’s version begs Jolene not to take her man. Beyoncé’s version takes a more aggressive approach, practically daring Jolene to even try.
Beyoncé’s version opens with the verse, “Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene/I’m warning you, don’t come for my man.”
Some diehard Dolly Parton fans were offended that the R&b singer changed the lyrics. However,...

The ritual surrounding the annual State of the Union is never complete until the president’s opposition has presented its rebuttal — occasionally in an embarrassing manner.
Katie Britt, the junior Republican senator from Alabama, delivered the GOP’s rebuttal to President Joe Biden’s address on Thursday. Her impassioned, breathless speech — delivered at times in an Asmr-esque whisper from what appeared to be her kitchen — ended up feeling more like a rejected audition tape for a supporting role on “Grey’s Anatomy” than the hard-hitting political sparring favored by Biden’s Republican critics.

Tracy Chapman celebrated the recent revival of her 1988 hit “Fast Car” by performing it alongside Luke Combs at the 2024 Grammys.
The performance marked a rare public appearance from Chapman, who has only performed on camera three times since 2009. Watch a clip of the performance below.
Luke Combs’ 2023 cover of “Fast Car” skyrocketed to No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, surpassing the original’s peak position at No. 6 in 1988. The song’s success on the country music charts made Tracy Chapman the first Black woman to have the sole songwriting credit on a No.1 country hit. Combs, who changed nearly nothing about Chapman’s original composition, received a 2024 Grammy nomination for Best Solo Country Performance, and also won the Single of the Year award at the 2023 CMAs.

Updated, with White House comment: TikTok announced today that it was removing videos that have popped up on the platform in which users of various ages and ethnicities promote Osama bin Laden’s “Letter to America,” which he had written to justify the attacks on 9/11.
“Content promoting this letter clearly violates our rules on supporting any form of terrorism,” TikTok said in a message posted on X/Twitter. “We are proactively and aggressively removing this content and investigating how it got onto our platform.”
The platform, however, disputed the extent to which the videos went viral, calling reports of them trending as “inaccurate.”
“This is not unique to TikTok and has appeared across multiple platforms and the media,” the company said.
TikTok referred to a post from journalist Yashar Ali, who on Wednesday alerted the presence of the videos on the platform.

Sharon Stone says she was sexually harassed by a former head of Sony Pictures, who allegedly aggressively propositioned her during an office meeting in the late 1980s, before the “Casino” star became a household name.
Stone remembered several specific details of the incident during a longform interview on the SiriusXM show “Let’s Talk Off Camera” with Kelly Ripa, but did not name her alleged abuser. It’s the first time Stone has expressed a specific #MeToo-type incident, though has hinted in previous interviews that she had experienced sexual harassment during her Hollywood ascent.
Sony, which was constituted in late 1987 with co-chairs Peter Guber and Jon Peters, did not immediately return a request for comment. Guber has never been publicly accused of sexual impropriety; Peters was ordered by a jury to pay $3.3 million in 2011 to a former assistant who accused him of sexual harassment and a hostile work environment.

Finding themselves in hot water in the aftermath of Danny Masterson’s sentencing on charges of rape, his “That ’70s Show” costars and real-life couple Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis have apologized for writing letters supporting Masterson’s character and requesting leniency from the judge.
In a video posted to Instagram on Saturday, Kutcher explained that the “character letters,” as he called them, were written at Masterson’s family’s request.
Kunis said, “The letters were not written to question the legitimacy of the judicial system or the validity of the jury’s ruling.”
“We support victims,” she added.
Danny Masterson was sentenced Thursday to the maximum 30-years-to-life in prison for raping two women in 2001 and 2003.

Piers Morgan’s Twitter account was hacked overnight and spewed a series of crass and racist comments for nearly an hour before it was shut down and wiped clean.
The feed for British TV commentator’s program on Sky, “Piers Morgan Uncensored,” posted a screenshot of his now-blank profile, stating, “In case you were wondering, @piersmorgan has been hacked.”
In addition to removing the F-word and N-word strewn comments, Twitter wiped clean all other posts Morgan has shared with his 8.3 million followers since he joined the platform in November 2010.
“Any chance of getting him back, @elonmusk?” the “Piers Morgan Uncensored” post asked Twitter’s owner.

Emancipation producer Joey McFarland has been condemned by critics for bringing “slave memorabilia” to the film’s premiere.
During the movie’s recent red carpet on Wednesday (30 November), McFarland carried with him the “original photograph from 1863” of former slave Peter, on which director Antoine Fuqua’s newest Will Smith-led thriller is based.
Taking the plastic-encased image, titled “Whipped Peter”, from his pocket, he told Variety: “I wanted a piece of Peter to be here tonight.
“It’s [sad] to say so many artefacts and photographs have not been preserved or curated or respected. And I took it upon myself to curate and build a collection for future generations,” McFarland explained, before noting that his collection will be donated for “educational purposes” when he dies.

As the world mourns the death of Queen Elizabeth II, Sunny Hostin shared a very different take than the numerous tributes celebrating the life of Britain’s longest-reigning monarch.

“Because if you really think about what the monarchy was built on, it was built on the backs of Black and brown people,” she continued.
Hostin pointed to the Queen’s iconic jewel-encrusted crown as an example of the brutality that characterized British colonialism.
“[The Queen] wore a crown with pillaged stones from India and Africa,” Hostin explained. “And now what you’re seeing, at least in the Black communities that I’m a part of, they want reparations.”

Hostin’s assertion came in response to a story from Joy Behar about her time doing standup in the U.K., where she said jokes about the Queen did not go over well.
Hostin said that, having lived in the U.K., she herself got caught up in the “pomp and circumstances” surrounding the monarchy.
She offered a more critical take today.

Bizarrely, the quote Malik used wasn’t even a real thing Hitler said
Bollywood actress Veena Malik deleted a tweet posted May 11 that was a fake quote from Adolf Hitler supporting the Holocaust.
The tweet was emphatically anti-Semitic in referencing the Holocaust and for a time visible to Malik’s roughly 1.2 million followers on Twitter.
Journalist Yair Rosenberg, who works for Jewish online publication Tablet Magazine, pointed out that the quote wasn’t even something Hitler actually said.
“This Hitler quote is, naturally, a fake Hitler quote,” Rosenberg tweeted Tuesday. “One of the weirder forms of anti-Semitism out there is the need to attribute additional anti-Semitic quotes to Hitler. Like, you couldn’t find a good one from him so you had to make one up?”
Writer Yashar Ali also noticed that the tweet was up for quite some time, despite its contents definitely violating Twitter’s terms of service.

Following the news that the Arclight Cinemas theater chain will be closed for good as a consequence of the Covid-19 pandemic, plenty of LA residents in and out of entertainment gnashed their teeth in dismay. But that dismay soon turned into calls from within Hollywood for someone, anyone, to step in and save it.
Who? That’s a question for another time since, as we write this, no one has actually stepped up and no one has seriously proposed any kind of direct action that might encourage a person or organization with deep pockets to do so. But given the theater’s significance, we suspect that will change. For now, the main takeaway is that a whole lot of Angelenos, (at least one of whom is writing this post), many of them famous, would be very happy indeed if one of LA’s most treasured movie landmarks was rescued from oblivion.

Sharon Osbourne may be done talking in the world of daytime TV, at least on CBS, but we still might get to hear her side of the story.
According to Page Six, Osbourne got a payday of as much as eight figures when she left The Talk.
“Sharon is walking away with a $5 to $10 million minimum payout and was able to spin that it was her decision [to leave the show],” a source told the outlet.
What's more, there is no clause in her agreement to depart that prevents her from speaking out about what went down.

“She still wants to give her side of the story. She has been on that show for 11 years and knows all the secrets.”
Sharon's future on the show was thrown into question following a heated on-air debate with Sheryl Underwood about her support for Piers Morgan.

It's official.
Sharon Osbourne will not be returning to The Talk.
CBS released a statement announcing the news while also revealing that star is leaving of her own accord.
"The events of the March 10 broadcast were upsetting to everyone involved, including the audience watching at home," reads a statement from CBS, according to Deadline.
"As part of our review, we concluded that Sharon’s behavior toward her co-hosts during the March 10 episode did not align with our values for a respectful workplace," it continues.
"We also did not find any evidence that CBS executives orchestrated the discussion or blindsided any of the hosts."
"At the same time, we acknowledge the Network and Studio teams, as well as the showrunners, are accountable for what happened during that broadcast as it was clear the co-hosts were not properly prepared by the staff for a complex and sensitive discussion involving race," the statement adds.

Sharon Osbourne has exited “The Talk” after an internal review over on-air comments about racism and allegations of racially insensitive behavior behind-the-scenes.
“The events of the March 10 broadcast were upsetting to everyone involved, including the audience watching at home,” CBS said Friday in a statement. “As part of our review, we concluded that Sharon’s behavior toward her co-hosts during the March 10 episode did not align with our values for a respectful workplace. We also did not find any evidence that CBS executives orchestrated the discussion or blindsided any of the hosts.”
“At the same time, we acknowledge the Network and Studio teams, as well as the showrunners, are accountable for what happened during that broadcast as it was clear the co-hosts were not properly prepared by the staff for a complex and sensitive discussion involving race,” the statement continued.

Dr. Oz started his “Jeopardy!” guest hosting run this week, much to the outrage of fans and over 500 former contestants of the prolific trivia game show. Toward the end of February when it was announced that Dr. Oz, Aaron Rodgers, Katie Couric, Dr. Sanjay Gupta, and more would take over “Jeopardy!” hosting duties following Alex Trebek’s passing, hundreds of former “Jeopardy!” contestants published an open letter on Medium (via New York Post) condemning the decision to bring Dr. Oz on board.
“When we heard that Dr. Mehmet Oz was slated to be a guest host, agreement came quickly — we were opposed,” the contestants wrote in their letter. “Dr. Oz stands in opposition to everything that Jeopardy! stands for.”
“Throughout his nearly two decades on television he has used his authority as a doctor to push harmful ideas onto the American public, in stark contrast with his oath to first do no harm,...

The ladies of The Talk will not be assembling any time soon.
The rapidly expanding hiatus was supposed to end on Tuesday, March 23, but it has now been extended for a third time, until at least Monday, March 29.
The news comes just days after journalist Yashar Ali published a substack in which he detailed alleged racist and homophobic remarks Osbourne is said to have made against her co-workers on the series.
Leah Remini, a former star of the series, was cited in the report.
Howard Bragman, Osbourne's publicist, subsequently issued a statement in which he called the allegations "lies."
His statement read, "The only thing worse than a disgruntled former employee is a disgruntled former talk show host."
"For 11 years Sharon has been kind, collegial and friendly with her hosts as evidenced by throwing them parties, inviting them to her home in the UK and other gestures of kindness too many to name.

“The Talk” will be off the air for a bit longer than expected, as CBS has extended the show’s ongoing hiatus through at least next week while it continues to investigate accusations of racism and inappropriate comments by co-host Sharon Osbourne, an individual with knowledge of the matter told Thewrap. No return date has been set.
“The Talk” canceled upcoming live shows on March 14, amid CBS’s internal review, launched late last week, of comments made by co-host Sharon Osbourne that led to an on-air heated debate about racism. The hiatus was originally planned to last just for this week.
The review started after Osbourne defended her longtime friend Piers Morgan’s comments about Meghan Markle. Osbourne’s defense led to an emotional on-air conversation with co-host Sheryl Underwood, who called Morgan’s comments racist and sexist. Osbourne, in turn, expressed concern that she was being labeled a racist for defending Morgan.

Sharon Osbourne is opening up about what went down on The Talk just over a week ago.
As you are well aware by now, Osbourne got into a heated debate with Sheryl Underwood on the series last Wednesday.
The topic of the conversation was Sharon's defense of Piers Morgan following his controversial comments on Meghan Markle.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Osbourne said that the whole scenario was "the biggest setup ever."
In fact, Osbourne alleges that CBS executives had her co-hosts blindside her with the questions about Piers Morgan.
The host said that she arrived late to the studio of the series last week, and the showrunner asked her the following:
"Hey, do you want to clear up the Piers thing again?."
Osbourne said she replied, "If you want me to, I will."

There will be no fresh chatter on CBS' The Talk this week.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, the daytime talk show's hiatus has been extended by another week.
The series was plunged into chaos following a heated debate between Sharon Osbourne and Sheryl Underwood following Osbourne's defense of Piers Morgan.
An internal investigation was launched when CBS announced the series would not be airing on Monday or Tuesday, but it appears the investigation is still very much underway,
“CBS is committed to a diverse, inclusive and respectful workplace across all of our productions. We’re also very mindful of the important concerns expressed and discussions taking place regarding events on The Talk," reads a statement obtained by THR.
"This includes a process where all voices are heard, claims are investigated and appropriate action is taken where necessary. The show will extend its production hiatus until next Tuesday as we continue to review these issues.

Though it was scheduled to return this Wednesday, The Talk now won’t resume until Tuesday, March 23, a CBS spokesperson tells TVLine.
The daytime chatfest took an unplanned break earlier this week, following a controversial interaction among the co-hosts during a conversation in the March 10 broadcast. While the hosting panel talked about British TV personality Piers Morgan’s comments about Meghan Markle, Sharon Osbourne defended Morgan and then worried aloud that she would be branded a racist for doing so. She grew louder — and frequently spoke over Sheryl Underwood, who is Black — as the segment went on. Later, social media users criticized Osbourne’s behavior.

Sharon Osbourne repeatedly used racist and homophobic slurs in reference to her former “The Talk” co-hosts Julie Chen and Sara Gilbert, according to Leah Remini, another former co-host.
During their time on the CBS daytime talk show, Osbourne would refer to Chen, who is Chinese-American, as “wonton” and “slanty eyes” and Gilbert, who is a lesbian, as “pussy licker” and “fish eater,” Remini and other unnamed sources said in a report from journalist Yashar Ali on Tuesday.
The allegations come amid an ongoing CBS internal review into other racially insensitive behavior by Osbourne. “The Talk” is currently on a temporary hiatus stemming from Osbourne’s on-air meltdown about racism last week, which has now been extended for another week.
A representative for Osbourne denied the new allegations from Remini and others in a statement, saying the host is “unfazed and hardly surprised by the lies.”

Justin Timberlake, who famously dated Britney Spears, responded to the backlash he’s received following the Framing Britney Spears documentary from the New York Times that debuted on FX and Hulu last week. It also comes in the context of an ongoing legal case between Spears and her father, in which the singer seeks to regain control of her finances.
Spears and Timberlake met when they were cast on The New Mickey Mouse Club in 1992. They dated from 1999-2002. After the spit, Timberlake’s “Cry Me a River” seemed to blame Spears for their breakup. The music video featured an actress who looked a lot like Spears.
In an Instagram post Friday morning, Timberlake wrote in part, “I am deeply sorry for the times in my life where my actions contributed to the problem, where I spoke out of turn, or did not speak up for what was right.”

It’s just about impossible to replace the man who hosted “Jeopardy” for nearly four decades and more than 8,000 episodes, but somebody will have to take over Alex Trebek’s legacy sooner or later. Whoever they pick among the guests hosts Sony is trying out won’t satisfy everyone, but there’s one person slated for one of those guests slots who a whole lot of fans — and even some past contestants! — are already rejecting: Mehmet Oz, aka Dr. Oz, whose guest spot was revealed Tuesday evening.
There’s going to be some level of negative response to every one of the guest hosts — how could there not be, since none of them are Trebek? Plus, you know, there’s no option that everyone likes. So some amount of grumbling from “Jeopardy” fans is to be expected.
But the backlash to Dr. Oz on social media is a bit more acute than just some grumbling.

ABC News President James Goldston announced that he would step down from his post on March 31.
“It’s a really tough decision. CNN’s Don Lemon went off Monday night after finding out that a spokesperson for outgoing president Donald Trump had claimed he was the most “masculine” president.
Lemon felt a better descriptor for Trump was “the biggest snowflake.”
“‘He’s the most masculine,'” scoffed Lemon, imitating campaign spokesperson Hogan Gidley, who made the claim earlier in the day on Fox News. “Come on, man. Shut up. Shut up! He is the biggest snowflake of them all, the biggest one.”

Melissa Francis, a longtime business-news reporter who has been with Fox News Media since 2012, has been off the air since early October after approaching the company earlier this year with claims of pay disparity based on gender discrimination, according to reports in The Los Angeles Times and from social-media journalist Yashar Ali.
Francis, who co-anchored the mid-day Fox News Channel show “Outnumbered” and the Fox Business Network show “After The Bell,” has not been seen on air since appearing on the former program October 7. Fox News declined to comment on whether the company and the anchor were in the midst of any kind of arbitration. “Fox News Media regularly considers programming changes, including to its daytime lineup, and will launch new formats as appropriate after the election,” the company said in a statement. “These changes are being made independent of any other ongoing matter.”
Francis did not respond immediately to a query via social media.

Black reporters at ABC News whose names were attached to a 2016 “manifesto” to top management are now “uncomfortable” around their colleagues — because the letter was never approved by all the names attached or sent, TheWrap has learned. The letter, which is dated Aug. 17, 2016, was published on June 13 as part of an investigative piece by Yashar Ali on HuffPost about conduct by now-suspended ABC News talent executive Barbara Fedida that was deemed racist and insensitive. The letter lists the names of 12 reporters, correspondents and anchors at the bottom, including “Good Morning America” co-anchor Robin Roberts, “The View” co-host Sunny Hostin, senior justice correspondent Pierre Thomas, and then-abc News correspondent Kendis Gibson, among others, and was addressed to then-Disney/ABC Television Group president Ben Sherwood, ABC News president James Goldston and ABC News management. Update, video added Sunny Hostin, co-host of The View, addressed a report that a top ABC News executive used derogatory and racist comments about her and other on-air figures.
Hoston said on today’s episode that the report – published in HuffPost on Saturday – “tells me that systemic racism touches everything and everyone in our society. Regardless of social stature, no one is immune. It is the type of racism that black people deal with every single day, and it has to stop.”
ABC News put Barbara Fedida, senior vice president of talent, editorial strategy and business affairs for the network, on administrative leave as an investigation is conducted. ABC News president James Goldston told staffers on Monday that an outside law firm is being retained to conduct the probe.
On Saturday, HuffPost published Yashar Ali’s report that detailed allegations, including one instance in which Fedida referred to Hostin as “low rent.

“The View” co-host Sunny Hostin on Monday spoke out about “systemic racism” at ABC News days after network executive Barbara Fedida was placed on leave following a report of insensitive, racist and abusive language used about staffers including Hostin herself.
“It was a tough weekend for me and I was really disappointed and saddened and hurt when I learned about the racist comments that were made, allegedly, about me, my colleagues and my dear friends,” Hostin said at the top of the daytime show, which airs on ABC.
Hostin then addressed many of the inflammatory comments Fedida detailed in Yashar Ali’s Huffington Post report on Saturday. “Because if true, to reference Robin Roberts — who is one of the most respected and beloved journalists in our country — as ‘picking cotton'; to reference me — someone who’s been very open about having grown up in publicly housing — as being ‘low rent'...
