Title: The Anonymous People Director: Greg Williams A well-meaning documentary that advocates for a broader societal acceptance of addiction as a chronic disease of the brain, “The Anonymous People” leads with its considerable heart, but can’t summon the sort of order and focus necessary to convert generalized sympathy into stronger lasting memory and impulse for action. Flitting to and fro, and alighting on a wide range of related but not always smoothly integrated topics – from the founding of Alcoholics Anonymous and biased drug infraction prison sentencing to a series of testimonials from public figures and arguments for greater health care control subsidies for addicts — the movie carries an important message, but [ Read More ]

With his new thriller "Locke" set to hit theaters April 25th, Tom Hardy fronts the May 2014 issue of Esquire magazine.
While going shirtless for the Greg Williams-shot front page, the "Dark Knight Rises" star opened up about everything from his public image to his struggles with substance abuse.
Highlights from Mr. Hardy's interview are as follows. For more, be sure to visit Esquire!
On his "macho man" persona:
"I have always been frightened with men. To the point where I couldn't go into a gym because of the testosterone and I felt weak. I don't feel very manly. I don't feel rugged and strong and capable in real life, not how i imagine a man ought to be. So I seek it, to mimic it and maybe understand it, or maybe to draw it into my own reality. People who are scary, they terrify me, but I can imitate them.

If Microsoft has it their way, Xbox One may be their ticket out of the graphics race. A recent statement by a developer indicated that the Xbox One would not be released with the intention of competing with other consoles’ graphics.
Greg Williams, Gm of silicon development, went on record with the following statement:
“We purposefully did not target the highest-end graphics. We targeted more as a broad entertainment play and did it in an intelligent way. The people who are here have clearly done them before and we’ve done them within Microsoft before. But this is one of the more strategic plays and in terms of the overall product, that is a clear differentiator, and the [hardware IP] that we’ve developed here is truly unique.”
Williams’ statement seems to contradict the known specifications for Xbox One, which most notably include a custom Microsoft eight-core Cpu. This suggests that either...

In the process of opting out, he finds he might not only have to kill his fellow contestants but also the guys pulling the strings. Lawless and Dark Knight Rises star Tom Hardy is set to star in a war drama called Samarkand. In it he'll play a special forces soldier who returns from the Middle East with post-traumatic stress disorder.
THR describes the character as "a soldier struggling to re-integrate into society after his tour of duty with the British regiment the Sas."
it sounds like it will be an intense film and a good role for Hardy to flex those acting muscles. The script was written by Greg and Olly Williams, and they're developing the movie with Hardy over at Solar Pictures. Greg Williams will direct the movie, and it will be a first for him.

The Hollywood Reporter has the scoop that Tom Hardy is working with Solar Pictures on a new indie film Samarkand, about a British soldier returning home from duty in the Middle East with post-traumatic stress disorder (Ptsd).
It might be difficult for Bane fans to look at Hardy in a different role for awhile but I’m confident Hardy will put on a great performance. I can’t think of a recent British film that has dealt with a character returning from the Middle East and suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. American films like Jarhead, The Hurt Locker and Home of the Brave a couple of American non-documentary films that have dealt with the subject.
This will be the Greg and Olly Williams’ debut film after Greg Williams’ short film: Sergeant Slaughter, My Big Brother which won best director at several American short film festivals. Watch the trailer for Sergeant Slaughter,...

• Johnny Depp fans, get excited. The actor has committed to his next two projects: Wally Pfister’s sci-fi thriller Transcendence, and Barry Levinson’s Whitey Bulger biopic Black Mass, both of which he’d been circling for a while. Transcendence will be the directorial debut for Pfister, an Oscar-winning cinematographer (for Inception in 2011), who has been Christopher Nolan’s go-to since Memento. The details of the project remain sparse, but the logline teases that the film is about a scientist who has his brain uploaded into a computer. Depp will go straight from Transcendence to Black Mass, based on the...

What is Casting Couch? It’s feeling a little left out this week since casting agents seem to be focused on getting their clients pilots for the next TV season, but it’s got a couple pieces of big movie casting news anyway. Chances are, as much as Tom Hardy’s face shows up in these casting updates, you assumed that he already had enough jobs to last him for the next decade or so. Turns out this isn’t the case. Whether or not Hardy actually gets around to starring in all of the projects he has in development will remain to be seen, but for now he has another gig to add to the pile. Deadline is reporting that he’s developing a new film with first time feature director Greg Williams called Samarkand. Between when Tom Hardy won the world's attention as the scene-stealing Eames of Inception and his string of captivating performances in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Warrior, Lawless and The Dark Knight Rises, the charismatic and deeply captivating actor took the time to star in a short film called Sergeant Slaughter, My Big Brother. The celebrated short directed by emerging filmmaker Greg Williams focused on two brothers and how their lives change when the older one (Hardy) joins up for the French Foreign Legion. Soon Williams and Hardy will reunite on a feature that will star the latter as a suffering soldier. Deadline reports Hardy will front Samarkand, a drama that will explore the tricky issue of post traumatic stress disorder, a severe anxiety disorder that has afflicted many men and women in the armed forces. There’s just no stopping Tom Hardy, is there? After breaking out with Inception, the man has been on an absolute roll. In recent months, we’ve seen him attach himself to a real-time thriller called Locke, the upcoming Splinter Cell adaptation, Daniel Espinosa’s Child 44, the gangster flick Cicero, a Mount Everest drama and a passion project of his titled Animal Rescue. Now it’s time to add one more to that list as the actor has signed on to star in Greg Williams’ Samarkand.
The film will have Hardy playing a “Special Air Service soldier who comes back from serving in the Middle East and has a hard time adjusting back to normal life as he suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder. ” Seems a bit generic but if Hardy is attaching himself to it, than the material must be good. If there's any doubt, Tom Hardy is ready to break out in a big way. While he's not quite a household name (seriously, just go ask your Mom if she knows who Tom Hardy is), his moment of omnipresence is fast arriving. Of course, "Inception" and "The Dark Knight Rises" certainly boosted his profile in a major way, but "Warrior" proved his name was not yet a ticket buying incentive for many. But that's likely to soon change -- "Mad Max: Fury Road" is in the can and awaiting a release date, and in the first half of 2013 he's embarking on two movies with Noomi Rapace, "Animal Rescue" (which recently also added Matthias Schoenaerts) and "Child 44" and starts shooting the real time thriller "Locke" next month. Now, another movie has been added to his roster. Hardy is reteaming with director Greg Williams for "Samarkand," for a role that will...

Greg Williams has covered the last four Bond films, beginning with Die Another Day, and his work here on the set of Skyfall is jaw-dropping. He has an instinct to find the most compelling take on each of the scenes and he captures the candid moments between takes uncovering a light-hearted element in what is a very serious, and often very dark, Bond film. Roger Deakins’ work on the film has been rightly praised and the Blade Runner neon dazzle of the Shanghai sniper sequence is caught perfectly here.
Williams takes us through the production chronologically, albeit with a Pre-Production album at the end of the book, and the books kicks off with perhaps my favourite image – that of Daniel Craig filming the iconic gun barrel sequence, something which, ironically, appears at the end of the film. Red is back with the Epic. Due to the ambitious nature of the camera, compounded by the Japanese tsunami, delays were had, but that’s only added to the anticipation. Daniel Graetz gives the Epic a 360 degree analysis.
Back in late 2009, the Red Digital Cinema Company unveiled plans for Epic, the successor to its revolutionary Red One Digital Cinema Camera. In the last few months a small number of handmade Epic bodies have been released to early adopters as well as feature film productions such as Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit, and a rumoured 50+ units to James Cameron for a possible Avatar follow-up.
We were fortunate enough to receive one of the first units in Queensland and I can honestly say the wait has been more than worth it. Red has managed to reduce the camera size by more than 50 per cent, while delivering increased resolution and higher frame rates.

Innovation in Hollywood isn't for the faint of heart. Meet Rich Ross, the outsider (from television, no less!) tugging Disney's movie studio into the 21st century. [Update: Now there's even more tugging, following halted production on one of the first big franchises in his stable, "The Lone Ranger."]

nm2646465 autoRich Ross[/link]'s second summer as Disney's studio chief was starting to look like a dud. He had been in the top job for 19 months, and movies that he'd green-lighted, rather than inherited, were beginning to hit theaters. The first one, a teen dramedy called Prom, had fallen flat a few weeks back, but now it was prime time, the main event, the first punch of a one-two summer combo--Pirates of the Caribbean 4: On Stranger Tides and then Cars 2--that would shape the studio's financial fate for the year. The Pirates 4 indicators were particularly discouraging.

The Bionic Short Film has premiered. Greg Williams‘ Bionic (2011) stars Zahia Dehar. Bionic‘s plot synopsis: “Bionic is a futuristic short film where a sex doll (Zahia Dehar) exercises her own free will”. The best part of this short film, besides the obvious, are the under-sexed, pervert scientists in the lab, leering, sneaking peeks at the sex doll and the action in its finale. The sex doll in Bionic could easily be an early version of the Fem-bots from the Austin Powers films.
For those that are wondering, this short film was shot with Red Mysterium-x camera. Nathaniel Rogers over at The Film Experience asked the hilarious question: “Is it wrong to interpret her [the sex doll] vacant eroticism as satirical commentary on Britney Spears’s airheaded marionette carnality?” Great observation on the duality between a synthetic sexual construct and a PR, manufactured one.
The entire storyline for Bionic (contains spoilers):

This brand new short film, from photographer/filmmaker Greg Williams (who won prizes a year ago for that Sergeant Slaughter short with Tom Hardy just discussed), gives newish meaning to the term Bionic Woman. The header says that a sex doll (played by French celebrity Zahia) exercizes her own free will... but it looks just like malfunctioning to me.
Bionic from Greg Williams on Vimeo.
That shot of her with the banana is just painful (but funny), you know? Is it wrong to interpret her vacant eroticism as satirical commentary on Britney Spears's airheaded marionette carnality?
Android lovers are such a mainstay of science fiction, aren't they? Our two favorites have always been Blade Runner's Pris and A.I.'s Gigolo Joe. But maybe that's because they're two of the only ones in sci-fi movies. (Are they ever going to make a movie of Saturn's Children ... we're guessing no.

When we spoke to "Real Steel" director Shawn Levy back in April, he made it very clear that he wanted curious onlookers to see the upcoming flick as more than just "the robot movie." While giant fighting robots are indeed part of the story, he said that there's much more to it as well.
Levy spoke in broad terms in that interview, describing the movie as a "poignant relationship drama," a "sports movie" and even a "father-child road movie" with themes of redemption. Now we have a more concrete description, in the form of an official synopsis, and a pair of images to go along with it. Check it all out after the jump.

Named Esquire magazine's Sexiest Woman Alive for this year, Kate Beckinsale is honored with a cover shot for the print media's November issue, which sees her striking raunchy pose for the lens. Greater than that, she also strips down to her underwear for photo spread featured inside the publication.
An exclusive more than two-minute video capturing the movie beauty and mother of one doing the photo shoot for the spread has been unleashed. It sees her having numerous underwear changes in what looks like an empty house. The footage is directed by Greg Williams and features music "Hollywood" by Jet.
Speaking of her new predicate, Kate tells Tom Chiarella who interviews her for Esquire, "This whole notion of being named Sexiest Woman Alive is going to earn me quite a beating. You can't have that title with four brothers. I'll get wedgies. Headlocks. Noogies." She then adds, "I'm feeling that...

There are plenty of high-laaarious tweeters out there (my faves: Fireland and My Dad Says), but Twipcomics makes it even more fun: Cartoonist and illustrator Greg Williams draws adorable comics to match the witticisms. Synergy, you guys. I like this trailmix recipe, this one about basically being a Nick Hornby character, and this one about sleazy talking cucumbers. Wolverine and James Bond will soon be squaring off eight times a week. And here's the first publicity photo of Hugh Jackman and Daniel Craig in the Broadway play A Steady Rain, in which they play Chicago cops with enough troubles to fill Soldier Field. Jackman, who won a Tony in 2004 for hoofing it as 1970s singer-songwriter Peter Allen in The Boy From Oz, plays Denny, a patrolman with a racist streak and violent temper. And Craig, a London stage veteran making his Broadway debut, plays Joey, a recovering alcoholic and gentler soul who may not be as docile as he first seems. In A Steady Rain, which just began rehearsals, the two buddies in blue recount a few harrowing days on the job and their very different accounts of a police call that quickly went south. Performances of American playwright Keith Huff's two-man play begin Sept. 10 with an official opening set for Sept.

In our current issue there's a piece on still cameras used to make movies, and now we've got motion picture cameras used to shoot stills. Of course, motion picture cameras have been able to shoot stills for a while, but you wouldn't expect to see one on a magazine cover. This month, photographer Greg Williams has photographed Megan Fox for the cover of Esquire using the Red One camera. From the site: For the first time in Esquire's history (and, we imagine, magazine history in general), a cover image was shot as a video. Using the RedONE, a video camera that captures images at four times the resolution of high-definition, photographer-director Greg Williams (see below) recorded ten minutes of loosely scripted footage with Fox —...
