Alt-rock band Vampire Weekend has turned in iconic albums: their self-titled release, “Contra,” “Modern Vampires of the City” and “Father of the Bride.” The last two of these were especially important for the band, bringing them Grammys for Best Alternative Music Album in 2014 and 2020, respectively. On top of that, “Father of the Bride” earned the band their first nominations outside of the alternative category: Best Rock Song (“This Life”) and, most importantly, Album of the Year. Now the band is back with their fifth studio album, “Only God Was Above Us,” and with this new release, there’s potential for another big Grammy night for the band.
This new album comes four years after the success of “Father of the Bride,” which topped the Billboard 200 and was eventually certified gold in the US. While it managed an Album of the Year nomination, however, it wasn’t necessarily the band’s most beloved collection,...

A new crowd pleaser has made it to the Paramore set list. The band live debuted their single “Thick Skull” at the Spark Arena in Auckland, New Zealand, on Sunday night. The audience waved their hands in the air as frontwoman Hayley Williams prompted, “Come on out with your hands up.”
The song is the emotional closer of their latest LP, This Is Why. Paramore performed the song halfway through their Nov. 19 set.
This Is Why is Paramore’s sixth studio album, and their first since 2017’s transformative After Laughter.

The time has come again for Barack Obama to share his summer playlist; as usual, it’s a mix of classics and modern hits. Catch the former president with headphones on, and you may hear him listening to modern cool kids like boygenius or Ice Spice and Nicki Minaj, or revered legends like Leonard Cohen. You may also hear him listening to “Walk Like an Egyptian.”
You could clown on Obama for including the latter track, but you can’t say The Bangles don’t deliver some summery fun! Those good vibes continue with cuts like 2Pac’s “California Love” and Otis Redding’s “(Sittin’ On) The Dock of the Bay.” Elsewhere, the 2023 playlist slows down for Pearl Jam’s “Just Breathe” and Luke Combs’ take on “Fast Car,” Tracy Chapman’s 1988 song that recently charted even higher than before thanks to the unlikely country cover.

Harry Styles has shared the official music video for his song “Daylight,” off his 2022 album Harry’s House. Watch the video below.
Styles made no official announcement about the video leading up to its premiere, but fans who found the preview page before it went live were greeted with a message saying, “It’s just a video, just for you.” In the credits for the video, it’s explained that it was “made with love by a creative team from Ukraine.”
Last year, Styles shared an unofficial music video for “Daylight” that was made with James Corden for the latter’s show. The two hit the streets of Brooklyn and managed to complete the shoot in under three hours for less than $300. The official version, of course, seems to have taken a bit more time, with a bit larger of a budget, but now fans can step into the world...

Doug Richards, a former member of Wet Leg and ex-boyfriend of the band’s current vocalist Rhian Teasdale, has accused the indie rock breakout stars of not crediting him for songs he said he co-wrote.
In a new interview with The Times UK, Richards explained that he formed Wet Leg with Teasdale and Hester Chambers in 2019, but was kicked out of the group once his seven-year, on-and-off relationship with Teasdale came to an end for good.
Richards’ first gripe with his former bandmates is the name they continue to use. Teasdale and Chambers have shared a couple origin stories of “Wet Leg” — one being a game of combining two random emojis together, another referencing hometown slang — but Richards apparently remembers it differently.
“For years me and a couple of friends had lists of stupid band names,” he said. “Anytime you’d think of a funny combination of words you’d just write it down.

Foo Fighters have followed up their surprise performance at Glastonbury by announcing a new UK stadium tour in 2024. And based on the itinerary, it looks as if Dave Grohl and co. could be making a return trip to Worthy Farm next year.
The “Everything or Not At All UK Tour” takes place in June 2024, with stadium shows in Manchester, Glasgow, London, Cardiff, and Birmingham. Wet Leg and Courtney Barnett will trade off as the main support for these dates.
Notably, Foo Fighters have nothing scheduled beyond their June 27th show in Birmingham. Glastonbury happens to take place that weekend, suggesting the band could be one of the festival’s 2024 headliners. Grohl insinuated as much during last weekend’s surprise appearance by telling the crowd: “I figure that if you guys come back we’ll come back soon.”
Tickets to Foo Fighters’ UK tour go on sale Friday, June 30th via Ticketmaster.

Liam Gallagher has addressed ongoing speculation surrounding a potential Oasis reunion.
For years, fans have hoped that brothers and former bandmates Liam and Noel might be able to reconcile, after Oasis split in 2009.
Liam has typically been the one calling to make the reunion happen, while Noel has previously shut down claims that Oasis were set to get back together.
However, in a recent interview with a French radio station, Noel said in response to a reunion question: "[Liam’s] got my number. He’s got my manager’s number. Call us."
“He should get his people to call my people to call my people. They know who they are. They know where we are,”he told France Inter.
"Stop talking on the f***ing internet and let’s see what you’ve got to say,” he continued.

The Brits 2023 are officially over for another year, and it was Harry Styles's night. As predicted, the "As It Was" singer took home artist of the year, song of the year, best pop / r&b, and album of the year - marking the start of a very good 2023 for the former One Direction member, having won the best album award at the Grammys just a week earlier. Wet Leg and Beyoncé both won two Brits, while The 1975, Aitch, and Becky Hill also scooped the top prizes.
Styles sweeping the board even saw him enter an exclusive club, unofficially named the "4 Brits Club." Awards ceremonies like the Brits can always do better, but by now they’re just an excuse for a party
There was a five-headed elephant in the room at what was otherwise a strangely flat affair at the Brit Awards. As is tradition with music ceremonies, a row flared up over representation after the nominations were announced. The gender-neutral Artist of the Year category was entirely made up of male artists: Central Cee, Fred Again, George Ezra, Harry Styles and Stormzy.
The switch from gendered categories was implemented in 2021 after Sam Smith – who came out as non-binary two years earlier – urged awards shows to be “reflective of the society we live in”. At the first non-gendered awards show in 2022, Adele walked away with the Artist of the Year prize, for which Little Simz, Sam Fender, Dave and Ed Sheeran had also been nominated.
Women fared well across the board, with Olivia Rodrigo winning Best International Song, Wolf Alice taking home the British Group prize, Becky Hill for British Dance Act,...

Nine years ago, Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner waxed poetic about rock ‘n’ roll in one of the more memorable awards show speeches in recent memory. Upon winning Album of the Year at the 2014 Brit Awards, Turner remarked, “That rock and roll, eh? That rock and roll, it just won’t go away. It might hibernate from time to time, sink back into the swap.”
“I think the cyclical nature of the universe in which it exists demands that acquiesce to some of its rules. But it’s always waiting there, just around the corner, ready to make its way back through the sludge and smash through the glass ceiling, looking better than ever,” Turner continued. “Yeah, that rock and roll, it seems like it’s faded away sometimes, but it will never die. And there’s nothing you can do about it…”

The 2023 Brit awards have come to a conclusion – albeit a slightly uneventful one.
Britain’s biggest night in music saw a number of repeat winners, with Isle of Wight duo Wet Leg and Harry Styles taking home multiple awards.
The awards ceremony was held on Saturday 11 February.
The event kicked off at London’s O2 arena with a star-studded red carpet. Celebrities including Styles, Sam Smith, Salma Hayek, Lewis Capaldi, and Ellie Goulding struck a pose.
Smith, in particular, turned heads in their shiny black inflatable latex jumpsuit. You can see the boldest looks from the Brits here.
Comedian Mo Gilligan returned to host for a second time. The Masked Singer judge and Netflix star took over hosting duties from long-time presenter Jack Whitehall in 2022.

Harry Styles thanks One Direction bandmates in Brits awards speech: ‘I wouldn’t be here without you’
Harry Styles has thanked his One Direction bandmates in his acceptance speech at the Brits.

Accepting the award for Artist of the Year – his second award of the night – Styles thanked his family, singling out his mum for entering him to compete on The X Factor without telling him.
The “As It Was” singer, 29, went on to also thank his former One Direction bandmates by name: Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson, and Zayn Malik.
“Because I wouldn’t be here without you either,” said Styles. “Thank you so much.”
Elsewhere in his speech, Styles said he is “very aware of my privilege”.
The Artist of the Year category was not without controversy this year. Many...

The 2023 Brit Awards are taking place this Saturday 11 February at the O2 Arena in London.
The full list of nominations were announced in January, and revealed one of the most eclectic lists of nominees in recent memory.
Recent Grammy winners Wet Leg emerged as one of the most-nominated acts with four nods, alongside regular Brits attendee and Grammy Album of the Year winner, Harry Styles.
Other acts up for some of the night’s top prizes include rapper Stormzy, rock band Arctic Monkeys, and The 1975.
In the international categories, Irish rock group Fontaines DC can be found muscling up against K-pop stars Blackpink and hip-hop artists Drake and 21 Savage.
The Artist of the Year category faced widespread criticism after being entirely dominated by male acts, just one year after the Brits scrapped gendered categories.

As much fun as it was to see music's biggest names get honored at the 2023 Grammy Awards on Feb. 5, it was also a highlight to cheer for all the artists who picked up their very first wins this year.
The 2023 freshman class was packed with rising talent who are just getting started on their music careers, but they're not all lesser-known names. One of the biggest Grammys categories is, of course, best new artist, where the Recording Academy recognizes the brightest up-and-coming stars. This year, Anitta, Omar Apollo, Domi & Jd Beck, Samara Joy, Latto, Maneskin, Muni Long, Tobe Nwigwe, Molly Tuttle, and Wet Leg were all nominated, but Joy took home the award (and delivered a gracious acceptance speech for the honor).
Other Grammy categories had a high number of first-timers, too. The best rock album category, for instance, featured the first career Grammy nominations for Machine Gun Kelly (who...

The 65th annual Grammy Awards are this Sunday, and one nominee learned his craft thanks to YouTube.
Twenty-five-year-old Omar Apollo, who just released his debut album Ivory in April 2022, is one of 10 acts nominated for best new artist at the 2023 Grammys.
Apollo told NPR he didn’t start making music until he was 17–and when he did get started, he had no idea what genre he wanted to get into, let alone what basic instrumental and vocal skills he needed to acquire.
“I always knew I wanted to sing, I just wasn’t good yet,” he said. He told the outlet he solved that problem by surfing YouTube for videos of singers who had natural vibrato and studying those singers until he could mimic the effect with his own voice.
He did the same sort of mimicking to learn guitar: He’d find videos of skilled guitar players and study their finger placements and movements.

Måneskin have many credits to their name. After winning the Eurovision Song Contest in 2021, four years after they conquered The X Factor in Italy, the group went on to become the first Italian band to crack the UK Singles Chart. Their pop-rock cover of the Four Seasons oldie “Beggin” has reached more than 1.2 billion streams on Spotify, while “I Wanna Be Your Slave” tops half a billion. Last November, the foursome nabbed their first Grammy nod. But perhaps most impressive in Måneskin’s list of accomplishments is the fact they’re teaching millions how to pronounce the Scandinavian letter, å.
Across one EP, two albums and a string of riotously fun performances – replete in latex, black glitter nail polish and assless chaps – Måneskin have helped restore glam rock to its former glory. Lead singer Damiano David, bassist Victoria De Angelis, guitarist Thomas Raggi and drummer Ethan Torchio take their cues,...

It’s the day before New Year’s Eve in Nashville, and Molly Tuttle is in a dressing room at the Ryman Auditorium, getting ready to open Old Crow Medicine Show’s annual year-end concerts later that night. Tuttle has played the Ryman stage in the past, but this time she does so with a prominent asterisk next to her name: The bluegrass guitarist is a Best New Artist Grammy nominee.
Tuttle’s about to turn 30 in January (the 14th, to be exact) and she’s reflecting on the last decade,...

The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon audience is more than happy to allow Dry Cleaning frontwoman Florence Shaw to call them her disco pickle. The U.K. band stopped by the late-night show on Monday for a slick performance of “Hot Penny Day,” the stoner-rock cut from their sophomore studio album Stumpwork, released last October.
Shaw led the band through the set with a serenity to her spoken word delivery that remained undisturbed by the raging instrumentalists sharing the stage with her, including bassist Lewis Maynard, guitarist Tom Dowse, and drummer Nick Buxton.

The 2023 Grammy race for Best New Artist looks nothing like last year’s race. In 2022 Olivia Rodrigo had the category on lock; she had made such a big splash in the industry that nobody was prying that award away from her. But there is no easy, undeniable choice this year. On such a level playing field, just about anyone can win. Click through our gallery above for the latest odds.
Going into the Grammy nominations we were predicting that rapper Latto would prevail following the breakthrough success of her single “Big Energy” and its parent album “777.” She indeed made the list of 10 nominees, but suddenly the momentum swing towards Anitta, who is now the overall favorite with 11/1 odds. She has had unprecedented success for a Brazilian artist and recorded her latest album, “Versions of Me,” in multiple languages. Her 2021 single “Envolver” became her highest charting on the Billboard Hot 100. Throw...

One of the most innovative and exciting fields at the Grammys every year is the alternative field. It’s not rare to see new artists and critically beloved records in the field instead of the name checks that happen elsewhere (although one or two may slip in). This year the Grammys recognized the genre’s growing base in popular culture and within the academy by adding a new category for alternative music songs, which used to be relegated to either pop or rock. With all that in mind, let’s see who might win big in the alternative field this year.
SEEBeyonce has the most Record of the Year Grammy nominations in history … but she hasn’t won it yet Best Alternative Music Performance
The front-runner here is likely Wet Leg for their hit “Chaise Longue.” The song has the second most streams out of the nominees, racking up almost...

This year’s Grammy nominations for Best New Artist were … unexpected, to say the least. If you look back at the odds for the Grammy nominations on Gold Derby, only five of the expected 10 contenders actually made it in, those being Latto, Muni Long, Anitta, Wet Leg, and Omar Apollo. There were definitely a lot of surprises when it came to more niche genre-specific artists, and perhaps two of the biggest surprises were jazz artists Samara Joy and Domi and Jd Beck. But don’t count out the jazzists for the win here.
Samara Joy and Domi and Jd Beck represent different branches of jazz. Joy is more of a traditional jazz vocalist. Her sophomore record, “Linger Awhile,” which is nominated for Best Jazz Vocal Album, features a collection of timeless standards sung by Joy with her phenomenal voice. Joy is perhaps most similar to previous Best New Artist winner Esperanza Spalding,...
