With Wrestlemania growing ever closer it means one other thing – this year’s WWE Hall of Fame ceremony is also upon us and despite the calibre of this year’s entrants many of the inductors have not yet been made public knowledge.
Over the years we’ve seen some great pairings. Stone Cold Steve Austin and Bret Hart, Hulk Hogan and Sly Stallone and Pat Patterson and Mae Young. There’s been some hideous choices too like inducting Pete Rose and Drew Carey but we’re unlikely to ever get away from Vince’s obsession with integrating wrestling with the mainstream.
It’s probably already a given backstage who has been announced and who will be making an appearance but with the odd exception nothing has been confirmed. With that in mind What Culture looks t each inductee and suggests who would be the best choice to induct each member...

Donald Trump will be wrestling with more than just a muddled political philosophy soon. The real-estate mogul/"Apprentice" host will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame during the wrestling organization's April 6 induction ceremony, joining such celebrity inductees as Drew Carey, Pete Rose, Mike Tyson and William "Refrigerator" Perry. Trump, whose mixture of combativeness and showmanship makes him a natural fit with the WWE, has a long relationship with the wrestling-entertainment giant. He hosted WrestleMania two years running in 1988 and 1989, and participated in a WWE storyline in which he...

Baseball card collectors and fans of the game are left scratching their heads after Topps made the decision to scrub mentions of Pete Rose and his Major League Baseball records from their products.
It seems Topps quietly made the move sometime in the past few years, but the pot was stirred when sports blogger Rob Harris reported the 2013 card packs happily mentioned Barry Bonds' records while leaving Rose to stand as an anonymous record holder.
You see, on the back of each player's card are "Career Chase" stats that indicate who holds the Mlb record for each stat that player is chasing. Chicagoside explains it this way:
"For Paul Konerko, the Career Chase line indicates that his 422 career home runs are 340 shy of Barry Bonds' career record of 762. Konerko -- who is knocking on the door of 37 years of age -- has an outside chance at 500 career home runs,...

If rumours are to be believed ‘The Kliq’ are to join the already announced Mick Foley, and Bob Backlund as inductees in the 2013 WWE Hall of Fame. The group, who actually never wrestled together and are more accurately a backstage group, were comprised of Shawn Michaels, Triple H, Kevin Nash, Scott Hall and Sean Waltman.
The Klique lists some of the most well known and successful names from wrestling history. Surely their inclusion in the Hof is a no brainer?
The group began life as a close knit group of superstars who looked out for each other behind the scenes and used their influence to engineer contracts and storylines in their favour. In most other professions this may be called a union, but a union is something that has never been able to be formed in the pro wrestling industry. As such they were seen as a clique (as they...

Disgraced baseball legend Pete Rose is appearing in a new reality series on TLC. Rose said he wanted to do "Pete Rose: Hits and Mrs." to show America what he's really like. Many critics, though, seem to think it's a blatant appeal to have the lifetime ban lifted so he can get into the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown.
There was certainly plenty of talk about past regrets Rose has regarding the betting he did that led to his ban. "I wish I could wake up tomorrow and the gambling deal never happened," he said. He spoke of wishing that he could get a second chance.
The San Francisco Chronicles called the show "a full-on appeal … to lift the suspension and make Rose eligible for Cooperstown." Newsday seemed to take it that way as well, writing, "There may be worse ways to seek reversal of a lifetime ban (and...

Despite being baseball's all-time hits leader, Pete Rose knows what it's like to be shut out of the sport's Hall of Fame - and the icon says a few of this year's snubbed players should have been let into the sacred institution.
On Friday morning, Rose visited Access Hollywood Live to promote his new TLC reality series "Pete Rose: Hits & Mrs.," and he weighed in on this week's decision to keep modern day superstars like Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens out of the Hall of Fame over allegations of using performance enhancing drugs during their playing days.

A lot of people view Pete Rose these days with a mixture of anger and pity. Anger that his long-ago sin of betting on baseball games still keeps the sport’s all-time hit king out of the Hall of Fame, and pity at the sad caricature they think he’s become. Maybe they saw that melancholy documentary that shows Rose making his living sitting at Caesars Palace hawking autographs and telling stories of his glory days. They see him trotted out occasionally at WWE events and wonder how he could have fallen so far. And now, perhaps the ultimate indignity, he’s starring in [...]...

At some point in his lifetime, Pete Rose decided he wanted to do a classy reality show, and then for some reason TLC gave him exactly that. I do not recall anyone ever saying they wanted to know what goes on in the life of Major League Baseball’s all-time hit leader, but someone must have thought this would be a grand idea and greenlit the show for production. I’ve got to say I’m stumped. I have nothing against Rose – I could really careless about whatever gambling he did while managing the Cincinnati Reds that got him banned from baseball –but do we really need another reality show following the life of a rich man and his family?

According to EW, Rose and his fiancée are currently filming a series about their relationship (he's 71; she's 31), their families (he has four grown children; she has two young children), and their lives (he lives in Vegas; she lives in L.A). “It’s not going to be classless," Rose vows, which is just about the best possible thing Pete Rose could say, and yes, the series will include a family trip to the Baseball Hall of Fame. The working title for the show is Pete Rose and Kiana Kim Family Project, but if this is called anything other than Pete Rose: Safe at Home, something has gone seriously wrong.

I can see it now: at the end of a 23-year, hall of fame career in which Bryce Harper breaks Pete Rose's record for career hits, we'll still look back and say that the biggest thing Harper ever contributed to American society came last week, when he uttered the words "That's a clown question, bro" to an over-eager radio jockey.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid officially became the first politician to use the now famous comeback meme, when asked today if he thought his Republican counterpart Mitch McConnell was waiting to comment on Barack Obama's executive order on immigration until after Mitt Romney went on record about it. "I don't want to answer that question," Reid says after a long pause. "That's a clown question, bro."

With Wes Anderson and Noam Baumbach producing, and a top drawer cast coming together including names like Owen Wilson, Olivia Wilde, Brie Larson and Jason Schwartzmann, Peter Bogdanovich is set for a nice comeback with the upcoming screwball comedy "Squirrel To The Nuts." While that's cooking, though, the writer-director evidently has another project in the works that's a little more serious and will reunite him with a former collaborator.
Bogdanovich's absence from the silver screen since 2001's "The Cat's Meow" saw him tackle a few projects on television which included the Pete Rose telepic "Hustle" starring Tom Sizemore and, despite critical indifference to that feature, the actor evidently impressed Bogdanovich enough to earn a re-teaming on upcoming addiction drama, "John Ledger."

At SportsOlogy, we write about the Washington Nationals' Bryce Harper quite a bit. We even have an entire section of our site devoted to the astonishing talent and brashness that is Bryce Harper. And why wouldn't we?
But on the other coast, the La Angels' Mike Trout has been equally impressive, even if he's gone about his business far quieter than Harper.
The 19-year-old Harper and the 20-year-old Trout are the two best and most exciting rookie tandem to enter Major League Baseball together since two young shortstops -- a 22-year-old Derek Jeter and a 20-year-old Alex Rodriguez -- played their first full seasons for the Yankees and Mariners in 1996.
Mike Trout
The beginning of the big league careers of Mike Trout and Bryce Harper have been remarkably similar to one another.
Trout has played in 40 games for the Angels, seeing time at all three outfield positions, and he's affected games in almost every possible.

Whether you're a sports nut or not, some of the finest documentaries of the past few years have been found on Espn's "30 For 30" series. Kicking off in October 2009 and ending in December 2010 (which about a dozen more films added in 2011), the endeavor gave feature filmmakers creative control to helm docs about any sports subject that they were interested in, and the tactic resulted in some very strong work. Some of the highlights that premiered on the channel included "The Two Escobars" by Jeff and Michael Zimbalist; "Catching Hell" by Alex Gibney; "Winning Time: Reggie Miller vs. The New York Knicks" by Dan Klores and much more. In short, the series has spawned some utterly fascinating stories, and the good news is, there's more on the way.
The network has announced a new batch of docs are on the way, and they will start airing this fall. The directors involved are yet to be announced,...

At the end of the sketch, you might have noticed a slew of ridiculous corrections fly across the screen at an illegible speed. Naturally, the "SNL" backstage blog took it upon themselves to transcribe the corrections and share them with the Internet.
While the sketch itself was a testament to how close "Fox & Friends" is to parody, these corrections are funny no matter what your opinion of the show. The legendary Pete Rose has come out of tax lien retirement -- but this time he's on the hook for considerably less than he was before. As TMZ first reported, Rose paid off his debt to Uncle Sam last April by writing a check for $973,693.28 ... to settle up for a lien that only covered the years 1997-2002. Now it seems Pete has regained his form -- according to documents filed in Los Angeles County Recorder's Office,...

WWE Hall of Famer Jerry “The King” Lawler has told the Miami Herald that he has pushed for the late Andy Kaufman to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame’s Celebrity Wing. Lawler said;
“I’ve pushed for him to be there… The match I had with him, and that whole scenario I think opened the door and changed the face of wrestling to what it is today. There was the Hollywood involvement, the showbiz aspect, but especially the Hollywood involvement. When Andy came along and he and I had those matches, all of a sudden we were on national television on David Letterman, Saturday Night Live and these sorts of things. Our industry got the big Hollywood rub from Andy Kaufman.“Then Mr. McMahon just took that ball and ran with it. Next thing you know you have Cyndi Lauper out there, Mr. T, Hulk Hogan in the Rocky movie.

Psych made its best pitch this week. It swung for the fences. It threw a few curveballs at the audience. Point being: the episode was centered on baseball and featured a trip of fun guest stars.
Below, staff writer Chandel Charles has gathered a new quartet of fans - Kathy, William, Sarah Ann and Jamie - for another Round Table discussion, as they break down the latest antics from Shawn, Gus and company...

What was your favorite moment/quote from the episode and why?
Chandel: Shawn and Henry arguing over his call at the game. It's been a while since we've these two engage in an all-out shouting match, but what made it even funnier was that Gus and Juliet were watching and providing commentary. It was a pretty entertaining way to begin an episode.

In order to be entered into our contest last week for a trio of copies of Espn Films' "30 For 30" Volume 2 DVD box set, entrants were required to submit their answer to the following question:
"If Espn made another batch of 30 documentaries, what subject from the last 30 years of sports would you want to see a film about and who should direct it?"
The Espn programming executives better watch their backs because the answers we got from readers were uniformly outstanding. As promised, here are a few of the best. I picked five favorites and provided my own additional thoughts for each, and then at the bottom I threw in five more honorable mentions. And by the by, I've emailed the three random winners of the contest, so if you didn't get an email yet from ifcfeed@gmail.com, I'm afraid you weren't picked. But thank you for entering! And now without further ado.

Is there a more literary game than baseball? Novelist Joseph Finder hails an entertaining new companion to America's favorite pastime.
The writer George Plimpton once proposed what he called the Small Ball Theory of sports writing: the smaller the ball, the better the literature. Football and soccer and basketball have yielded a few decent books, he pointed out, whereas baseball has inspired fine literary work by such authors as Philip Roth, John Updike, Bernard Malamud, David Halberstam, Ring Lardner, Walt Whitman . . .
Related story on The Daily Beast: The Beginning of History
Until the great ping-pong bildungsroman comes along, I'm dubious about Plimpton's theory. Yet there's no doubt that baseball has spawned a greater quantity of books, fiction and nonfiction, than any other sport. The latest of these is The Cambridge Companion to Baseball edited by Leonard Cassuto and Stephen Partridge-which, if you buy only one book for the baseball fan in your life,...

If you didn't know what a juiced baseball was before picking up The Baseball: Stunts, Scandals, and Secrets Beneath the Stitches by Zack Hample, you sure will by the time you finish it. Famous ballhawk, Zack Hample, recounts loads of fun facts and figures about the baseball. The actual ball, not just the sport, in case you were confused about the title. Hample may go on a bit too long about the ins and outs of the history of the manufacture of the balls, down to weight in fractional ounces. But there are so many fun stories interspersed throughout that you can excuse his obsessive need to share the almost moment-by-moment evolution of the major league baseball.
I found quite interesting that the baseball, taken for granted by most fans, except in their desire for a souvenir, has been a constant source of controversy in relation to how games are scored and players are performing.

I think bringing that underage sex incident up with Rob Lowe is like Jim Gray asking Pete Rose about gambling during the All Star game many years back. It's bad form. Sorry, sorry. I misread the room. I totally forgot. We Love Rob Lowe now. He totally redeemed himself on "West Wing," when he killed it on that show before, well, he thought he deserved to be paid more than the rest of the cast and he bailed when NBC balked. Oh, oh, oh. We're not talking about that anymore, either. Sorry. He's done so much since even then to redeem himself. I mean, he starred in "Brothers and Sisters." Oh, but what about that time that he dumped Melissa Gilbert after she told him she was pregnant? Sorry, sorry. Ancient history.
We're past it all. We're past it because Rob Lowe is now starring in "Parks and Recreation," and we love "Parks and Recreation,...

Good news: Ugly Betty’s Becki Newton has given birth to a healthy baby boy with her hunky husband Chris Diamantopoulos. Bad news: Her new sitcom Love Bites still doesn’t have a time slot and just had the episode order cut from 13 to 9.
We all know that the Spurf™ is launching his own TV site come January, and he’s finally revealed the name: TVLine.com. Doesn’t really roll off the tongue, does it? But best of luck to Michael, he’s really good at what he does.
Out Olympic skater Blake Skjellerup is competing in China right now, and taking the time to shop for knockoff Gucci for everyone on his Christmas list. But he does wonder if China can really become a superpower while remaining Communist.
I admit that I’m fairly neutral on the music of Nelly Furtado, but I’m loving this quote.

Ranking the ten best television episodes from October 16th to October 23rd.
10. Community: I have to agree with a lot of the sentiment about this week's episode: It wasn't one of the best. Still, a weak episode of "Community" is better than a great episode of the other 97 percent of network offerings.
9. The C Word: I have to confess, I don't really like this show very much. I liked the pilot, but since the opening episode, it's been kind of aimless and weirdly smug. I love Laura Linney, but her character -- no matter how many times she lives for the day -- continues to be selfish and stuck up (and the son on this show is intolerable). However, I love Oliver Platt in this (and recent episodes have picked up with Idris Elba), and this week, Platt finally showed some spine and, in doing so, took away Linney's temporary get-out-of-jail free card.

These days, Pete Rose looks like a Reno televangelist. Decked out in a striped dress shirt with "Hit King" embroidered on the collar (a design which he owns in several different color variations), unnaturally darkened hair, spangled boots, and a flashy gold watch, Rose and that famous gap-toothed grin weeps at adulation and preaches the gospel of baseball with fiery bluntness. He is not here to preach a loving and embracing sport but that of damnation and hellfire. Like a scarred and weathered Fred Flinstone, Rose is doing everything he can in his waning days, beseeching all who will listen to accept him into the hallowed gates of the Baseball Hall of Fame.

This summer has seen a lot of great films celebrate big anniversaries. Jaws is 35, Psycho is 50, The Blues Brothers is 30 ... the list just keeps going. Another classic film is celebrating its third decade in existence today, Airplane -- one of the best zany comedy spoof films of all time. Hard to believe it's been three decades since Leslie Nielsen first uttered the line "I am serious -- and don't call me Shirley." The film has aged well in the intervening years and the producers of modern day films like Epic Movie would be advised to spend time with this Zucker-Abrams-Zucker flick to see how it should be done.
In celebration of the film's birthday, website Mental Floss has come up with an Airplane quiz -- 11 questions guaranteed to test your knowledge about one of the funniest movies in history. And since every good quiz deserves an epic cram session beforehand,...

Milwaukee - Henry Winkler is not the Fonz.
He played the coolest guy on Happy Days for eleven seasons. But he doesn’t wear a leather jacket, ride a motorcycle or fix things by bumping them with his elbow. He’s not even Italian. He’s got a life that has gone beyond the Fonz. There’s probably a generation that knows him better for Adam Sandler movies and Arrested Development. On a May evening at the Quail Ridge bookstore in Raleigh, there is a group of kids under 12 years old that know him as the author of the Hank Zipzer books (along with co-writer Lin Oliver).
Many stars of the ’70s sell their tawdry memoirs of behind the scenes perversions. Winkler created a young adult book series that taps into grade school life instead of the action in Arnold’s bathroom. We’ll have to wait for lurid tales of the Hooper triplets.

Rob: I'm just telling you watch your back. Russell: Same thing for you man, watch your back. Russell: Boston Rob says it's better to play with me than against me. Oh, really? I believe I'm gonna get him to eat those words. And last night, I think Rob was served an appetizer. More on that later. Immunity Challenge Physically, Boston Rob continues to dominate this game.

To promote their new series "Fly Girls," the CW flew the press to Las Vegas for a screening and launch party. Not as glam as it sounds.
Jetting from Lax to Las Vegas on a chartered Virgin America flight featuring service by the five "Fly Girls" followed by a party at the Stadium at the Palazzo in Las Vegas sounds like a great Friday night, right?
In reality, it was just another night at the -- remote -- office. Sure, there was a fabulous drink list at the launch party; things like a Veeva La Fly Girls and a Palazzopolitan. The Mile High Mojito was delicious. But with a mile-long red carpet to attend to, it was hardly the whirlwind night of fun we were expecting.
