On Tuesday, October 31, 2023, at 8:00 Pm on MTV, “Catfish: The TV Show” presents its viewers with Season 8, Episode 87, featuring Matt and Elise. The episode’s description highlights the storyline’s central elements.
In this episode, the audience is introduced to Matt, who appears to be quite taken with Elise, a TikTok personality. However, as is often the case in the world of “Catfish,” potential red flags begin to surface. Nev Schulman and guest host Devyn Simone, who have made it their mission to uncover online deceptions, start noticing warning signs that might indicate a deeper layer to Elise’s online persona.
The plot thickens as Matt and Elise contemplate the possibility of meeting in person. Interestingly, Elise expresses concern about upsetting Nev, raising questions about what might be happening beneath the surface.
As “Catfish: The TV Show” has consistently demonstrated, online relationships can be far more complex than they initially appear.

It’s getting harder to make a real romantic connection these days, and no one understands that more than Nev Schulman. Back in 2010, the native New Yorker became the subject of a successful documentary directed by his brother Ariel and Henry Joost. Nev had forged a sweet, romantic relationship with a beautiful woman on Facebook – or at least he thought he had. As the documentary crew dug deeper into the woman’s life, they discovered that much of what she had told Nev was a lie, and the term “catfish” was coined.
Over a decade later, Catfish and its meaning are part of the cultural lexicon, and Schulman is still heavily involved in the investigative concept of the original movie, producing and co-hosting a hugely popular MTV docuseries exposing the online truths, lies, and scams encountered by a seemingly endless stream of lonely and lovelorn people over hundreds of episodes.

Catfish: The TV Show stars Nev Schulman and Kamie Crawford shared that the new MTV season will be the darkest they’ve filmed to date, which includes quite a few shocking money scams.
“We have some uplifting, happy-ending episodes, but yeah, I think people are going harder. They’re giving more money. They’re making bigger sort of irreversible decisions,” Schulman told Showbiz Cheat Sheet. “I don’t know if it’s desperation that people feel in terms of trying to find someone or force themselves into these relationships, despite the many roadblocks and red flags. But yeah, things get a little kind of dark.”
“This season is the most money we’ve seen someone spend on Catfish before … ever,” Crawford added. “I mean, collectively, this whole entire rest of the season is going to be a lot of money spent. Get your calculators out. Add it up. I think...

After a bevy of years filming MTV‘s hit Catfish: The TV Show, stars Nev Schulman and Kamie Crawford have become packing aficionados. The team travels almost nonstop when filming the show and gave Showbiz Cheat Sheet some insight into what they pack – and what they cannot leave home without.
Schulman, who launched the 2010 Catfish documentary has essentially been on the road chasing leads for 13 years. While he has packing down to a science he admitted that the one thing he can’t leave home without takes up half of his carry-on bag.

“I’ve got this down, it’s tight,” Schulman said. “I have an overhead carry-on. Half of which is completely occupied by the pillow that I bring with me that I love. You know, with all the hotels I’m sleeping in, at least I have to have a pillow that I like.

Over the years, MTV’s Catfish aired some truly insane stories of people being fooled online into believing the person they were talking to was someone else. Sure, it makes for entertaining television, but these behind-the-scenes stories may make you think twice about emailing Nev and Max.
Nev Schulman | Michael Loccisano/Getty Images Filming is long and ‘bizarre’
One participant who claimed to have appeared on Catfish: Untold Stories accused the show of piecing clips of their story together to make it seem more interesting. After four hours of filming, the alleged participant barely got their 15 minutes of fame.
“I was on an ‘Untold Stories’ episode of Catfish Season 6, and it was all-around bizarre,” the alleged participant posted to Buzzfeed. “My 20-minute segment on the show took four hours to film, so you can imagine how condensed it is. They got the gist of my story correctly, but for the most part,...

After more than a decade of following catfish stories, Catfish: The TV Show host Nev Schulman admits he continues to be shocked – and the latest season on MTV is a whopper.
Schulman brought catfishing to the mainstream via his 2010 documentary when he was catfished by a woman in Michigan. Realizing this phenomenon wasn’t unique to his situation, Schulman launched his series to help others who suspect they’ve been deceived.
Schulman said since he was catfished, the Internet has grown and provided a vast breeding ground for endless deception. “With the Internet now serving as this incredible multiplier of human interaction by pairing people with each other whom never, ever should or would have met otherwise,” Schulman told Showbiz Cheat Sheet. “You get an infinite number of interactions which many, lead to better or worse catfish situations.”

It’s a well known secret that reality shows are often scripted, with producers orchestrating the drama behind the scenes. However, one Catfish insider recently revealed that the MTV reality show is all too real.
‘Catfish’ was based on a documentary about a fake online relationship (L-r) ‘Catfish’ Executive Producer and host Nev Schulman and host Max Joseph | Jason Kempin/Getty Images for MTV
Catfish: The TV Show is based on a 2010 movie of the same name. Both the movie and the show center on the world of online dating. The documentary follows Nev Schulman as he discovers that he has been the victim of a catfish — a.k.a. someone pretending to be someone else online.
The reality show, much like the documentary, follows real people as they work to figure out if the person they’ve been talking to online is fact or fiction. Schulman serves as the host alongside Max Joseph.

Kamie Crawford Dishes ‘Ex on the Beach: Couples’ Is ‘as Messy as You Could Possibly Get’ [Exclusive]
MTV‘s Ex on the Beach: Couples host Kamie Crawford has serious respect for the couples and their exes who have the guts to appear on the series.
The original series concept went a step further by hosting six couples who put their relationship to the ultimate test when their exes arrive to help them decide to take their love to the next step – or walk away forever.
“It was as messy as you could possibly get, especially down to the sleeping arrangements,” Crawford told Showbiz Cheat Sheet about the series. “The fact that the exes are sleeping above their current partners is insane and it’s only going to get even more traumatic and crazy from here on out.”

As the finale for season 31 of “Dancing with the Stars” approaches this Monday night on Disney+, the last four celebrities in the competition who are gunning for the coveted Mirror Ball trophy are Wayne Brady, Charli D’Amelio, Shangela, and Gabby Windey. Each of them have proven to be a force to be reckoned with in the ballroom throughout these past nine weeks. There’s a case to be made for any one of them to come out on top. However, the one who I think we should really keep an eye out for is Windey.
Throughout the show’s long history, four “Bachelorette” stars have competed for the Mirror Ball trophy. So far two of them have won. In 2019 Hannah Brown managed to prevail in a finale that also included Lauren Alaina (fourth place), Ally Brooke (third place), and Kel Mitchell (runner-up). Catfish has taught us to be skeptical about everything—but this news has us cautiously optimistic. Max Joseph, who co-hosted the first seven seasons of the MTV documentary series with Nev Schulman from 2012 to 2018, is hinting that a return to the show is on the table. When he made the decision to leave, Max was replaced by Kamie Crawford. "I think they're holding it down pretty great just the two of them, but it would be nice and I hope to potentially do a trio at some point," Max told Page Six. "But I can't really speak to it [now]…It probably would be fun if it did happen." Since leaving the show, Max teamed up with Monica Lewinsky to executive...

“Dancing with the Stars” has been on somewhat uncertain ground since ABC dropped it from the spring schedule and limited it to fall seasons a couple of years ago. But the network announced on March 30 that the show will be back for its landmark 30th season this fall.
SEEHey ‘Dancing with the Stars,’ let Gleb Savchenko dance with a man, you cowards!
Season 29 was itself a pretty uncertain competition because it took place during the Covid-19 pandemic, which forced the show to shoot without a live studio audience, without judge Len Goodman (who was unable to travel to the US from the UK), and without backup dancers for most of the routines. Six-time Mirror Ball champion Derek Hough sat in for Goodman.
There were other, controversial changes as well. Emmy winner Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews were fired as hosts of the show even though Bergeron had been with the show from the very beginning.

“It really should not have been that surprising in hindsight because Kaitlyn had the fan base,” says Gold Derby contributor Jeffrey Kare about Kaitlyn Bristowe‘s upset victory at the end of “Dancing with the Stars” season 29. The users who had placed their bets in our predictions center thought Nev Schulman and Justina Machado had better chances, but we should’ve known that the built-in fan base Bristowe had as an alumna of “Bachelor Nation” would be enough to push her over the top. I debated the finale with Kare and Cordell Martin after the finale. Watch our video slugfest above.
“Going in I thought maybe she would place no higher than third just because I thought, okay, there’s no way they’re gonna give the Mirror Ball Trophy to another ‘Bachelorette’ contestant,” Martin explains about his initial skepticism. Would the viewing audience really be that eager to crown...

Kaitlyn Bristowe has a whole new reason to feel rosy—she just won Dancing With the Stars! The Bachelorette alum and her dancing partner Artem Chigvintsev were awarded the mirrorball trophy during the season 29 finale on Monday, Nov. 23. Of course, nobody was more thrilled for the 35-year-old reality star than her boyfriend, Jason Tartick. The 32-year-old posted a video of himself celebrating Kaitlyn's victory on Instagram. The clip showed Jason and stylist Lo VonRumpf waiting for the final results to be revealed. At this point, it was down to Kaitlyn and Artem and Nev Schulman and Jenna Johnson Chmerkovskiy. "Say it!" We have a winner!
Monday's season finale of Dancing With the Stars awarded one of the four finalists the coveted Mirrorball Trophy.
Kaitlyn Bristowe, Nelly, Justina Machado, and Nev Schulman remained in the running to win the whole season.
Each couple had two routines on the milestone episode, one involving a repeat of one of their favorite performances, and the other, a fan-favorite freestyle.
Bristowe and Artem Chigvintsev opened the episode with an Argentine tango to "Toxic" by Britney Spears.
Yep, they garnered another perfect score.
Their final performance on the series was "Sparkling Diamonds" from Moulin Rouge, which gave them another perfect score.
Nelly and Daniella Karagach went with a samba to "Rhythm of the Night," by DeBarge.
The performance netted them a 27/30.
For their freestyle, they danced to "Savage" by Megan Thee Stallion and "Hypnotize" by The Notorious B.I.G.
They nabbed a perfect score of 30/30.
Not bad!

Kaitlyn Bristowe won “Dancing with the Stars” season 29 in an upset victory over “Catfish” star Nev Schulman and “One Day at a Time” actress Justina Machado, who had been the top two in our predictions going into finale night. That makes this the second season in a row with a “Bachelorette” star claiming the Mirror Ball Trophy following Hannah Brown‘s triumph in season 28. But not all reality stars are created equal. We asked our readers who is the better dancer, and their answer was pretty decisive. Scroll down to see our complete poll results.
Even before the finale aired, Bristowe was ahead of Brown by one important metric: the judges’ scores. Though Bristowe couldn’t catch a break with Carrie Ann Inaba for a while there, she ultimately had a higher average: 26.4 out of 30 per dance over Brown’s 25.6. But the numbers weren’t nearly that close when fans had their say.

The freestyle routines are always the most anticipated on “Dancing with the Stars” because they take the best dancers of every season and let them run wild with performances where there are no rules. No need to stay in a particular hold or refrain from lifts — skill and entertainment value are all that matter. That’s one reason why they’re often so decisive: the viewing audience never has a better chance to get to know the celebs on the dance floor. Watch Nelly, Kaitlyn Bristowe, Nev Schulman and Justina Machado‘s final routines below.

This post contains spoilers for the latest episode of Dancing With the Stars Season 29.
Dancing With The Stars has named its newest Mirror Ball champion on Monday night. Winning the latest season of ABC’s hit celebrity dance competition was Bachelorette star Kaitlyn Bristowe and Artem Chigvintsev.
The final episode of the season, which started with 15 pop culture figures, saw Bristowe best fellow competitors Catfish‘s Nev Schulman, musician Nelly and One Day At A Time lead Justina Machado.
Schulman landed in second place, with Nelly and Machado in third and fourth, respectively.
Bristowe and Chigvintsev outdanced the fellow competitors with a Moulin Rouge-inspired swing duet. While it may be the first time Chigvintsev’s winning the series in his nine years involved, Bristowe isn’t the first Bachelorette to have taken home the trophy.
In 2019, former Bachelorette star Hanna Brown won the popular dancing show with partner Alan Bernsten.

It’s not a “Dancing with the Stars” finale without the season’s eliminated celebrities returning, but it won’t be a full house this time. All but one star will be in attendance for Monday’s show: Carole Baskin.
It’s nothing scandalous: The “Tiger King” star returned to Florida after her Week 2 elimination and can’t travel to L.A. because of Covid-19 restrictions, according to “Entertainment Tonight.”
All of the other 10 axed stars will be back in the ballroom, including Jeannie Mai, who withdrew from the show on Nov. 2 after undergoing emergency surgery for epiglottitis, a potentially life-threatening condition in which the cartilage over the windpipe becomes inflamed. The other nine are Charles Oakley, Anne Heche, Jesse Metcalfe, Vernon Davis, Monica Aldama, Chrishell Stause, Aj McLean, Johnny Weir and Skai Jackson.

The season began back in September with a high-profile celebrity cast that included “Tiger King” star Carole Baskin, “Selling Sunset’s” Chrishell Stause, “Cheer” coach Monica Aldama, Kaitlyn Bristowe of the “Bachelor” franchise, Backstreet Boys singer Aj McLean, former NBA player Charles Oakley and former Olympic figure skater Johnny Weir, among others.

Dancing With the Stars Season 29 is almost over.
The highly anticipated season finale airs Monday at 8/7.
The finale consists of former The Bachelorette, Kaitlyn Bristowe, Catfish host Nev Schulman, One Day at a Time star Justina Machado, as well as rapper, Nelly.
Dancing With the Stars has become something of a popularity contest in recent years, with popular stars securing the win over the more talented dancers.
Will this year be any different, or will this season wrap with another big upset?
The good news is that all four finalists are actually good dancers, but it seems it the conclusion will actually be a tossup between two of the four.
Bristowe has been a popular option since she was announced as the first cast member months before the season even debuted.
Paired with Artem Chigvintsev, they have emerged as fan-favorites, with fast-paced dance routines showing them to be solid performers.

“I think it’ll probably come down to Nev or I wouldn’t be surprised about Nelly. After Bobby Bones, anything is possible,” said Gold Derby contributor Cordell Martin, anticipating tonight’s “Dancing with the Stars” finale in which Nev Schulman and Nelly go up against Justina Machado and Kaitlyn Bristowe for the Mirror Ball Trophy. Watch my entire discussion with Martin and Jeffrey Kare above.

“I’m currently predicting [Schulman] to win right now,” said Kare. And I think he’s the favorite too since he has the highest cumulative judges’ scores of the season and seems to have a strong fan base as evidenced by the fact that he never landed in the bottom two all season when viewer votes have been added in. He would undoubtedly be a worthy Mirror Ball champion, but...
