There will be no fifth season for The Last O.G. The Season 4 finale, which aired on December 21, 2021, will now serve as the series finale for the comedy series starring Tracy Morgan, Deadline has confirmed.
According to sources, the decision was made months ago, following the series’ Season 4 run. It is not connected to the current pullout from original scripted programming on TNT and TBS following the WarnerMedia-Discovery merger, which resulted in the decision yesterday not to proceed with production on new TBS series Kill the Orange-Faced Bear starring Damon Wayans Jr. in a cost-cutting move.
Co-created and executive-produced by Oscar-winner Jordan Peele, The Last O.G. followed Tray (Morgan), an ex-con who was shocked to see just how much the world had changed when he was released from a 15-year prison stint. After finding a place to live and new forms of income, Tray continued to meet challenges as...

The Last O.G. has aired its last episode as the TBS original starring Tracy Morgan won’t return for a fifth and final season. According to TV Line, which broke the news, TBS informed the team behind the comedy starring Morgan and co-created by Jordan Peele, that they would not be renewed a few months ago, long before it was announced earlier this week that TBS and TNT wouldn’t be developing any new scripted content moving forward. (Credit: Bennett Raglin /TBS) Originally debuting in 2018, the half-hour series centered around Morgan’s character Tray Barker, an ex-con who is adjusting to the much-changed world he’s returning to after 15 years behind bars. Returning to a gentrified Brooklyn, Tray discovers that his former girlfriend Shay (Tiffany Haddish) has married a white man (Ryan Gaul) who is helping raise their twins, which Tray never knew existed. In an effort to connect with his kids,...

With the news that TBS is ceasing development of scripted series, it was only a matter of time before we got word on the future of the cabler's current crop of series.
TV Line is reporting that the Tracy Morgan-led comedy The Last O.G. has been canceled after four seasons.
The outlet states that those associated with the series were told of the decision earlier this year.
The series was renewed for the fourth -- and final -- season back in October 2020, with the cabler saying the following:
"The Last O.G. has become more powerfully poignant with each season while always remaining incredibly funny."
"Tracy Morgan embraces the world with his humor while Owen Smith tackles real-life conversations head-on through hilarity. We can’t wait to see where they take us in season four."

“The Last O.G.” isn’t done yet.
TBS has renewed the Tracy Morgan comedy for a fourth season, however, it will be moving forward without star Tiffany Haddish who is exiting the series, according to sources. News of the renewal comes around five months after season 3 aired the last of its 10 episodes.
Of note is that the show is changing showrunner for the fourth time in four seasons. Owen Smith, whose previous credits include “Black-ish” and “Survivor’s Remorse,” is taking over from Keenen Ivory Wayans for the forthcoming season. Wayans took over last year from season 2 showrunner Saladin K. Patterson, who himself assumed showrunning duties from season 1 showrunner and series co-creator John Carcieri.

Scott Aukerman spent the better part of the last 24 months making a movie. For a significant chunk of that time, he couldn’t really tell that many people what it was.
“We had two different code words for the movie,” Aukerman told IndieWire in a recent interview. “Our producer Corinne Eckhart came up with one of them, which was ‘Pineapple Harvest.’ Anytime we would be in an elevator talking about the movie and there were other people, we would have to use that and say, ‘What are you doing tomorrow?’ ‘Ah, I have to go write ‘Pineapple Harvest.’ Another one I think was ‘Child Ninja,’ what all the signs would say that would lead you to the set. It was definitely a little more high stakes and we had to keep everyone who was going to be in the movie a secret.”

Zach Galifianakis knows audiences love his “Between Two Ferns” interviews just as much as he knows they’ve reached their limit. Three years ago, in an interview with the Los Angeles Times, he matter-of-factly described the hit Funny or Die web series as “one note,” admitted he didn’t know what else to do with it, and, after interviewing everyone from Brad Pitt to Barack Obama, said the show had “kind of run it’s course.” He later resurrected the bit to support Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign — much like he interviewed Obama to help Healthcare.org — but the latest incarnation of “Between Two Ferns” isn’t so philanthropic.
“Between Two Ferns: The Movie” knows it shouldn’t exist. Given Netflix money to become more celebrity-decorated Netflix content, writer, and director Scott Aukerman’s 82-minute feature is styled as a mockumentary, using a purposefully flimsy plot to stitch together a...

“I’ve got three kids and a wife. What have you got besides two ferns?”
Over the years, Zach Galifianakis' wonderfully hilarious Between Two Ferns web series has increased its scope in terms of the profile of its guests, grabbing the likes of Jerry Seinfeld and Barack Obama. Now the series increases its goals in terms of turning a five-minute talk show web series into a feature length narrative film. Adding a plot or backstory to Between Two Fernsmay seem incredibly unnecessary or a reason for concern, but rest assured, adding a real sense of story, expanding the sandbox of this universe, and the pathos of Zach’s character is maybe the best thing the property has ever done.

"Here's to the crazy ones! The misfits... And ding dongs..." Netflix has launched the trailer for Between Two Ferns: The Movie, a feature film based on the cult classic comedy series called "Between Two Ferns" that originated on Funny or Die. The goofy interview series takes things on the road for this film. Zach and his oddball crew take a road trip to complete a series of high-profile celebrity interviews. It's described as "a laugh-out-loud comedy that gives new insight into the curmudgeonly, beloved outsider Zach Galifianakis has created over the years." Debuting on Netflix later this month. Starring Zach Galifianakis, Lauren Lapkus, Ryan Gaul, and Jiavani Linayo. With cameo appearances by: Matthew McConaughey, Benedict Cumberbatch, Peter Dinklage, David Letterman, Tiffany Haddish, John Legend, Adam Scott, Brie Larson, Jon Hamm, Awkwafina, and other "celebrities". Yeah, this looks exactly as wacky and weird as it should be. Here's the official trailer...

One may wonder just how the Zach Galifianakis web series Between Two Ferns could be expanded into a feature film, but in the hands of director and co-writer Scott Aukerman, our fears are kept at bay. Ahead of a release later this month, the first trailer has now arrived.
“We shot it like an actual documentary, where we built a public-access station and we shot at it. And if something came up where one of the actors would improvise something, we would then get with our production designers and production team and go shoot that scene that just came up in the improvising. So it was really a fun, cool way to do a movie,” Aukerman recently told Vulture.

Timed to its participation in the WarnerMedia upfront festivities, TBS has ordered two new shows to series and announced the renewal of two comedies.
Take a look at what shows will be joining and returning to the network’s 2019-2020 schedule.
Series Orders
TBS has decided to give “Full Frontal” correspondant Amy Hoggart her own show.
The untitled project will be a half-hour, non-political series which will explore everyday problems through Hoggart’s unique humor, blending scripted and unscripted segments.
Hoggart will pen the series, while continuing her correspondent duties on Samantha Bee’s show.
“I’m so relieved to be finally getting my money’s worth after an expensive and so far useless psychology course,” said Hoggart. “I’ll be exploring the topics we all have a hard time coping with, learn why we do the insane things we do, and unnecessarily demean myself for laughs. I’m beyond...

She was ready with that Tracy Morgan impression: Tiffany Haddish showed off some comedic range Tuesday on “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” doing a pretty spot-on impersonation of her “The Last O.G.” co-star.
“Is Tracy the richest person you know?” Jimmy Kimmel asked his Brooklyn guest.
“I’ve done a lot of Bar Mitzvahs,” Haddish replied. “I’m gonna say, no.”

“I think he’s one of the richest people I know,” she said, using the generous setup to launch into her impression.
For the impersonation, Haddish goofed on Morgan’s odd octopus collection. The line, “You know my fish tank is crazy,” just feels ripe for Morgan-voice.

Tiffany Haddish and Tracy Morgan made for one of the more enjoyable TV pairings of last year. Playing a pair of ex-partners adjusting to life after Tray (Morgan) is released from prison, the two form the narrative and comedic backbone of the TBS series “The Last O.G.”
When the show premiered last spring, IndieWire’s Ben Travers said of Haddish (and the show’s first season overall), “She’s a force as much as she constitutes the show’s limitations overall: Very good yet not yet great, the rest of the series gets a lot right early on without making a move to the top tier of television. That may nag at some who come in with ultra-high expectations, but Haddish and Morgan are marvelous, and ‘The Last O.G.’ could easily coast for six seasons on their charm alone.”

"Can't be unseen." Stx has dropped another wild & crazy red band trailer for The Happytime Murders, an R-rated puppet murder mystery neo-noir movie. The first red band trailer was totally insane and filled with lewd and demented footage, this one doesn't have as much footage but still packs a punch (to the gut). The full cast mixing live-action actors with puppets includes Melissa McCarthy, Maya Rudolph, Joel McHale, Jimmy O. Yang, Leslie David Baker, Ryan Gaul, and Elizabeth Banks. I actually really like that they're embracing the absurdity of this whole wacky concept by including all the tweets in this trailer, even if it does look totally Wtf insane. TBS has renewed “The Last O.G.” for a sophomore season, the network said Monday. “Search Party” has also been renewed.
“We couldn’t be prouder of these two comedies and that they’ve been recognized by critics and audiences alike for their uniquely hilarious points of view in a very crowded field,” said Brett Weitz, executive vice president of programming for TBS.
“We truly believe ‘The Last O.G.’ and ‘Search Party’ are two of the best shows on television,” he added.

“The Last O.G.” is getting a second season and stars Tracy Morgan as former felon Tray Barker, who returns to his Brooklynn neighborhood after 15 years to find it gentrified. Tiffany Haddish also stars with Allen Maldonado, Ryan Gaul, and Cedric the Entertainer. Morgan executive produces with Jordan Peele for Monkeypaw Productions, Eric and Kim Tannenbaum, Saladin Patterson and Joel Zadak of Principato Young.
“I would like to thank God, my family, the fans and TBS and everyone that has been given a second chance. We love you!!!” Morgan said.
“Search Party” is renewed for its third season, and stars Alia Shawkat, John Reynolds, John Early and Meredith Hagner. The four millennials make up a group who, in Seasons 1 and 2, covered up a murder and have slowly unraveled since. Michael Showalter executive produces with co-creators Sarah-Violet Bliss and Charles Rogers, and Lilly Burns and Tony Hernandez. It’s produced by Turner’s Studio T in association with Jax Media.

“Making Search Party has been a very dreamy experience because of the support and enthusiasm of the entire TBS team, so we of course jumped at the chance to make more things with them,” said Bliss and Rogers in a joint statement. “Our plan is to pitch them one hundred shows a day, amounting to 36,500 pitches. It’s never been done before and that’s why it has to happen.”

Tracy Morgan believes in second chances. “For me, I got a second chance at life, I got a second chance at love, I got a second chance at show business and a career,” Morgan told IndieWire. The comedian returns to series TV on Tuesday night with TBS’ “The Last O.G.,” his first major role since recovering from a horrific automobile accident in 2014.

An even bigger shocker: Shay is raising two teens — who turn out to be Tray’s kids, whom he didn’t know even existed. Cedric the Entertainer also stars,...
