“The Jennifer Hudson Show” will return for its sophomore season Monday after delaying its premiere due to the WGA strike, which officially came to an end earlier this week.
The host will welcome guests including Gwen Stefani, Niall Horan, Taye Diggs and Cedric the Entertainer, among others, for the daytime talk show’s first week back on air.
After delaying its initial premiere scheduled for Monday, Sept. 18, the talker joins a slew of other daytime talk shows that are resuming production following the resolution of the writers’ strike, including “The Drew Barrymore Show,” which is expected to return in October. Before delaying its start date, “The Jennifer Hudson Show” faced criticism from striking writers who found the decision to return without its WGA staffers harmful to the strike.

Jennifer Hudson is staying put.
Warner Bros. Discovery announced Wednesday that its freshman entry, The Jennifer Hudson Show, would be back on Fox TV Stations for a season two next fall. Hearst Television, along with other station partners, also renewed the Telepictures-produced series. With the freshly-minted Egot as host, the syndicated show is said to be reaching, on average, 5.2 million weekly viewers — hardly Oprah ratings, but “absolutely deserving,” as Fox TV Stations exec Frank Cicha noted, of a second year.

Warner Bros. Discovery’s “The Jennifer Hudson Show” will return for a second season on Fox television stations this fall, Mike Darnell, President of Warner Bros. Unscripted Television, announced on Wednesday.
“Jennifer is an incredible talent and can literally accomplish anything she sets her sights on. This show is second to none because of her and all of the talented producers and crew who work daily to make every single episode special. A Season 2 pick-up this early on proves that this show is here to stay,” said Darnell in a statement.
While he was effusive in his praise for the Egot winner, no one was more emotional than Hudson herself. In a video clip from Wednesday’s show, Hudson teared up as she told her studio audience, “Today is a major day of celebration.” She briefly burst into song, “We made it,” before announcing, “Y’all, we just got renewed...

Roku is getting into the daytime talk show space — sort of. Starting December 1, the Roku Channel will stream full episodes of “The Jennifer Hudson Show,” a Warner Bros. and Telepictures syndicated series, the day after they air on linear television. The deal makes Roku the exclusive streaming home to the Egot winner’s new talk series; all previously aired episodes of the show are now available to stream for free on The Roku Channel.
Hudson’s talk show, a mix of celebrity interviews, topical stories, community heroes, viral sensations, and yes, music, has been a pretty strong freshman performer. Among the six new syndicated strips in their first run, “The Jennifer Hudson Show” is a close second to “Sherri,” averaging a 0.6 household rating versus Sherri Shepherd’s 0.7, according to Nielsen data. Shepherd, an alum of “The View,” basically took over for Wendy Williams last season and launched her own new show this fall.

The Roku Channel has now become the exclusive AVOD streaming home for The Jennifer Hudson Show.
All previously aired episodes are available beginning Thursday, and new episodes will hit the platform the day after they air.
“The authentic spirit that Jennifer Hudson brings to each episode of the series has already won over the hearts of audiences across the country, and we look forward to extending its viewership potential further to the millions of streamers reached by The Roku Channel,” said Rob Holmes, VP, Programming, Roku.
Finding additional avenues on other platforms has become crucial for high-end syndicated talk shows to survive in the current economic environment, which has been increasingly challanging for first-run fare.
Warner Bros.’ freshman The Jennifer Hudson Show got to a respectable start this fall and is currently looking good to be renewed for Season 2 by its core station group, the Fox Stations.

On the first episode of Jennifer Hudson’s new talk show, guest Simon Cowell was very gently criticizing the series “American Idol,” on which he had been a judge and Hudson had been a contestant. Remarking how he found the producers’ assignment for her to sing a Barry Manilow song (which she did the week she was sent home) to be unfair to her and outdated, Cowell generated the first semblance of real heat on the episode. Here was something, perhaps, with the frisson and excitement of real conversation. Hudson let it sit there, allowing a couple moments of silence before remarking “Simon being Simon,” then trailing off.
This first episode began with a run-through of Hudson’s career achievements: From the sorrow of her “Idol” elimination during Barry Manilow Week to her casting in “Dreamgirls,” for which she would win an acting Oscar, to her successful recording career. Hudson...

Oscar, Emmy, Tony and Grammy winner Jennifer Hudson heads to daytime television on Monday, with the launch of “The Jennifer Hudson” show. And according to Andy Lassner, one of the show’s executive producers, what the “American Idol” alum brings to her take on talk TV is a universal relatability.
“I think what’s important with her is that she appeals to everybody, because she has a story of perseverance,” Lassner, who spoke to TheWrap on behalf of the EP team that also includes Mary Connelly and Corey Palent for our Fall TV Preview, said. “There’s something about her that no matter how you know her, you root for her. … Jennifer Hudson is someone that the public roots for. As if Jennifer Hudson’s week can’t get any better, the newly-minted Egot is about to add another title to her resumé: talk show host.
Hudson’s upcoming show, titled “The Jennifer Hudson Show,” has been cleared in more than 95 of the country, now officially heading into national syndication this fall. The series will debut on Sept. 12 on the Fox TV stations as its core station group.
Hudson’s show hails from Warner Bros., the same studio that was behind “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” which just closed its curtain after 19 years on the air. After visiting with guests Jennifer Aniston, Billie Eilish and Pink, DeGeneres wrapped the final episode of her eponymous talk show, which taped in late April ahead of airing Thursday, with a heartfelt plea. “If someone is brave enough to tell you who they are, be brave enough to support them even if you don’t understand,” she said, choking up. “They are showing you who they are and that’s the biggest gift anybody can ever give you. Jennifer Hudson is setting out to become the next Ellen DeGeneres. The Jennifer Hudson Show will debut on Fox TV stations in Fall 2022, Warner Bros. Unscripted Television and Fox Television Stations announced March 2. The one-hour daytime talk show is being made by Telepictures, which produces The Ellen DeGeneres Show, as well as Warner Bros. While the singer’s show is not intended to be the official Ellen replacement, Warner Bros. and Fox Television Stations have chosen Hudson to be their new flagship daytime talk show host after Ellen concludes later this year. Hudson’s fellow American Idol alum and The Voice judge Kelly Clarkson already has her own daytime hit. NBC intends for The Kelly Clarkson Show to take Ellen‘s time slot in Fall 2022 after DeGeneres airs her last episode. Whether Hudson will sing on the show like Clarkson is unknown. Jennifer Hudson is coming to daytime this fall with the launch of “The Jennifer Hudson Show” on Fox Television Stations.
While the new one-hour talker is not technically Warner Bros. TV’s replacement for “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” which is coming to an end this year, Hudson’s show is positioned to be the studio’s new flagship daytime talk show once DeGeneres has said her final goodbye after a 19-season run.
As Variety first reported in November, “The Jennifer Hudson Show” also comes from “Ellen” production company Telepictures. “Ellen” executive producers Andy Lassner and Mary Connelly served as showrunners on Hudson’s test show, which was shot last fall on DeGeneres’ stage. The show has been shopped around to station groups since, with Fox TV Stations emerging as the winner.

Amidst an investigation into several accusations of workplace and sexual misconduct, “Ellen DeGeneres Show” has removed three of its top producers: Ed Glavin, Kevin Leman and Jonathan Norman.
A spokesperson for Warner Bros. confirmed the departures to TheWrap.
The decision comes a little more than two weeks after the trio was accused of misconduct by former employees in a story published by BuzzFeed News in July. In the article, multiple individuals who previously worked on Ellen DeGeneres’ daytime talk show — who asked to remain anonymous for fear of retribution — detailed incidents of harassment and sexual misconduct they say they experienced with head writer and executive producer Kevin Leman, executive producer Ed Glavin, and co-executive producer Jonathan Norman.

“The Ellen DeGeneres Show” has overhauled its senior production team in the wake of accusations of racial insensitivity, sexual misconduct and other problems in the work environment at the long-running daytime talk show.
Three senior producers — executive producers Ed Glavin and Kevin Leman, and co-executive producer Jonathan Norman — have been ousted from the Warner Bros.-distributed syndicated strip following damning allegations raised in recent reports by Buzzfeed and Variety. “Ellen” veterans Mary Connelly, Andy Lassner and Derek Westervelt will remain at the show as executive producers alongside host DeGeneres. Connelly, Lassner and Westervelt have been with the show since its inception in 2003.
A Warner Bros. spokeswoman confirmed that Glavin, Leman and Norman have “parted ways” with the show.
The news was delivered to “Ellen” staffers Monday afternoon during a staff meeting in which DeGeneres spoke via a videoconference call. DeGeneres was emotional to the point of tears, and apologetic as she addressed more than 200 staffers.

Ellen Degeneres has been on TV screens for decades, but it looks like viewers are about to see a lot less of the embattled star.
Daily Mail is reporting that the Ellen host is thinking of bringing the show to a close following a recent wave of misconduct allegations that have triggered an investigation by WarnerMedia, the company that owns the show.
"She feels she can't go on and the only way to recover her personal brand from this is to shut down the show," a source explained to Daily Mail.
"The truth is she knew what was going on—it's her show. The buck stops with her. She can blame every executive under the sun, but Ellen is ultimately the one to blame."
DeGeneres sent a memo to her staff on Thursday, in which she addressed the allegations plaguing the series.

The Ellen DeGeneres Show‘s host, Ellen DeGeneres, and studio, Warner Bros., have spoken out about the recent complaints against the workplace environment on the popular daytime syndicated talk show.
In a statement on behalf of WB and DeGeneres, the studio confirmed that it has conducted an internal inquiry, interviewing current and former Ellen employees about their experience following a recent BuzzFeed report alleging a toxic work culture on the show.
“Though not all of the allegations were corroborated, we are disappointed that the primary findings of the investigation indicated some deficiencies related to the show’s day-to-day management,” the statement said. “We have identified several staffing changes, along with appropriate measures to address the issues that have been raised, and are taking the first steps to implement them. Warner Bros. and Ellen DeGeneres are all committed to ensuring a workplace based on respect and inclusion. We are confident this...

Update: Dozens of former employees from “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” have spoken out about several alleged incidents of sexual misconduct and harassment by top executives on the show, according to a Buzzfeed News report on Thursday night. Several ex-staffers, all speaking anonymously, accused executive producer Kevin Leman behaving inappropriately at a company party in 2013 and in May 2017. Almost a dozen former workers said Leman would make sexually explicit comments in the office regularly, frequently toward lower-level and younger employees.
Following the launch of an investigation into the workplace culture at her daytime talk show, Ellen DeGeneres has personally addressed her staff and apologized for numerous, unspecified transgressions on set.
DeGeneres acknowledged a culture that did not reflect the values with which she started the 17-year-old franchise, and pledged to do better. In addition, insiders familiar with the series said executive producer Ed Glavin is set to exit his role imminently.

Ellen Degeneres has been in the media for all the wrong reasons recently.
Following a slew of reports that both DeGeneres and the producers behind her highly-rated talk show have not treated people working on the show in the best of ways, comes a stunning new allegation.
Neil Breen, a radio host, has opened up about his experience with the show and its host.
“When Ellen DeGeneres came to Australia to do her show in 2013, I was the executive producer of the Today show, so we partnered with them,” Breen said on his radio show, 4Bc Breakfast With Neil Breen, earlier this week.
“Originally she was going to cohost the Today show, then she was going to do this, then she was going to do that," he continued.
"The whole thing got watered down to Ellen DeGeneres would do a sit-down interview.”
