Haliey “Hawk Tuah Girl” Welch joined the storied ranks of Yo La Tengo, Japanese Breakfast, 50 Cent, and Grimace by throwing out the ceremonial first pitch at a New York Mets game.
Welch took the mound Thursday as the Mets faced off against the Oakland Athletics, and her throw was solid. Welch knew her game, didn’t try to hurl 60 feet to home plate, tossed a strike to her friend instead, and then shared a celebratory chest bump.

The reactions to news that No. 1 WNBA draft choice and NCAA all-time scoring leader Caitlin Clark is likely not on Team USA’s squad for the Paris Olympics is mostly drawing outrage from fans and pundits.
The popular Indiana Fever rookie is apparently not going to be on the team, according to several reports. She has an outside shot if someone gets hurt between now and the start of the games.
A few lone contrarians pointed out by the time of the games, Clark will have played back to back college and pro seasons, and could stand a rest. But most lamented that the WNBA’s star attraction won’t be must-see TV at the games.
Some of the reactions:
Yet Caitlin Clark is not selected to the Team USA Women’s Basketball team heading to Paris for the Olympics?!?! All she does is grow the game, pack arenas, and set rookie records.

Turning Point USA — the far-right, Christian nationalist group run by Charlie Kirk — is kicking off its annual AmericaFest in Phoenix on Saturday. Tpusa bills AmericaFest as a bash for “like-minded” conservatives to celebrate “the greatest country in the world, America.”
But in addition to patriotism, many of the gala’s headliners appear to be of like mind about something much darker: a distrust, distaste, or outright hatred of Jewish people. The celebration comes on the heels of Kirk himself having been called out by prominent conservatives for creating “an anti-Semite problem” for the right.

After Megyn Kelly watched Kim Kardashian’s unique strategy to get the right photo at a Dmv, the journalist said her disgust for Kardashian was rooted in her belief that the reality star is an attention-seeking unintellectual who is only concerned with how she looks.
“It’s not personal. I don’t think she’s evil. I just hate what she represents,” Kelly explained in the Tuesday episode of her SiriusXM podcast series “The Megyn Kelly Show,” video of which you can watch above. “I can’t stand her, for all sorts of reasons.”
The reality star became a topic of conversation for Kelly, and her guest Jason Whitlock — host of Blaze TV’s “Fearless with Jason Whitlock” — as the two were discussing a scene from the Kardashian-Jenners’ Hulu series “The Kardashians.”
In the clip, which Kelly played for viewers, Kardashian was seen preparing to take photos for her driver’s license at a Dmv.

Frequent Tucker Carlson guest Jason Whitlock used his Wednesday night appearance on Fox to call for the breakup of the country. Responding to Tuesday’s arraignment of former President Donald Trump, Whitlock said that his interpretation of the Bible has led him to believe that it’s time for conservatives to secede from the Union.

To Fox News host and G.O.P. kingmaker Tucker Carlson, former President Trump’s indictment by a Manhattan grand jury on Thursday isn’t just an attack on the politician he once called “demonic.” Carlson told his viewers that the charges against Trump were not just directed at one man, but are a targeted “political purge” against Republicans as a whole.
“The rule of law appears to be suspended tonight, not just for Trump but for anyone who would consider voting for him,” Carlson said. “This is what it seems to be.

Conservatives are defending rapper Kanye West in the wake of the artist posting multiple antisemitic statement over the weekend — including that he was going to go “death con 3” on “Jewish People” — resulting in a restriction of his Instagram and Twitter accounts.

Despite leading the Los Angeles Lakers to the brink of the team’s 17th championship, LeBron James is catching fire from all sides for his political activism.
Following a severe takedown by Outkick the Coverage columnist Jason Whitlock on Friday in which he called James a “Black Donald Trump,” and claimed he “is every bit as crude, undignified and inarticulate as our sitting president,” the actual President Trump weighed in Friday with equally damning remarks.

ESPN may be synonymous with sports, but plenty of stars have bailed for Fox Sports lately. Have a look at some the big names.
Chris Broussard
The longtime NBA analyst – who’s gotten some criticism for remarks considered homophobic – joined Fox Sports in 2016, where he’s a regular panelist on “Skip and Shannon: Undisputed” and co-hosts “The Odd Couple” with Rob Parker for Fox Sports radio.
Cris Carter
Carter first joined Fox Sports in 2016 and had hosted “First Things First,” alongside Nick Wright since 2017, but it was a short tenure. He left Fox Sports in late 2019, reportedly after he had an outburst with higher-ups over not being part of the network’s “Thursday Night Football” coverage.
Skip Bayless
The outspoken sports columnist and “First Take” analyst still ranks as ESPN’s highest-profile defection when he bailed in 2016. He co-hosts “Skip and Shannon” with Shannon Sharpe on Fox Sports 1.

Updated with further staff departures: Deadspin, the formerly Gawker-owned sports-website that has become a case study in the management of digital news assets, saw its news flow go dry for nearly 24 hours as writer Drew Magary joined a mass editorial exodus on Thursday.
By Friday morning, the entire staff was gone, and noted contributors like Dave McKenna had also cut ties with the site. Megan Greenwell, the former editor of Deadspin who left last summer after clashes with its owners, tweeted Friday morning: “And with that, it’s over. Wednesday night’s World Series victory by the Washington Nationals, typically the kind of sports event that automatically gets the Deadspin treatment via multiple posts, drew no coverage until about 1Pm Et on Thursday.

Some 250 guests were seen wearing #Maga hats to event, according to the Post, showing the same enthusiasm given to President Trump during his White House remarks last week to the Young Black Leadership attendees in which he suggested Abraham Lincoln was a Republican.

Fox Sports’ Jason Whitlock was not among those impressed by Kobe Bryant’s Hollywood ending, when the Los Angeles Lakers legend dropped 60 points in his final NBA game. “His narcissism and selfishness destroyed a franchise,” Whitlock said a day later. “The Lakers are a laughing stock, and just had the most embarrassing season we’ve pretty much ever seen an NBA team have.” Then he accused Bryant of really only doing a pretty good Michael Jordan impersonation, one that apparently spanned his entire 20-year career: “The most fraudulent superstar celebrity athlete we have ever seen,” was how Whitlock summed the future Hall-of-Famer up.

Shaun King and Fox Sports personality Jason Whitlock are in the midst of an epic Twitter beef. King, a civil rights activist and a New York Daily News reporter, had his race questioned last year at the height of his involvement in Black Lives Matter. Whitlock took to his J. School blog to and referred to “advocacy writers masquerading as journalists.” This was apparently a dig at King’s recent Daily News story in which King claimed Peyton Manning’s “squeaky-clean image was built on lies.” Also Read: Maria Bartiromo's Business Advice For Kanye West: 'That's Not the...

With the hiring of Washington Post editor Kevin Merida to lead The Undefeated, its long-delayed site that will focus on the intersection of sports and race, Espn has quieted some uncertainty (for now) about its strategy of building digital verticals around stars and subjects. The company's newest planned vertical was thrown into turmoil last June when founding editor Jason Whitlock was removed after alienating some staffers. (Whitlock is now back at Fox Sports, where

Jason Whitlock, the former editor-in-chief of The Undefeated, has left Espn to return to Fox Sports. After being replaced as the head of Espn’s website that focuses on the intersection of race and sports in June, Whitlock will rejoin Fox Sports as a columnist and on-air personality effective immediately, the network said in a statement to TheWrap Wednesday. Whitlock, who was with Fox from 2007 to 2013, made the announcement Tuesday night in a column titled “The Explanation 2.0: Still Undefeated” on his new Fox Sports Digital blog, J.school. To share the news, Whitlock joined another recently departed Espn personality,...

Jason Whitlock’s role as the head of Espn’s The Undefeated has ended before it even really began. The journalist has exited as editor-in-chief of the website that focuses on the intersection of race and sports, Espn announced in a statement on Friday. Whitlock will be replaced on an interim basis by Leon Carter, formerly of the New York Daily News and ESPNNewYork.com, who will assume all day-to-day management of the site’s editorial processes and personnel. Built largely around Whitlock and his brand, The Undefeated was first announced in Aug. 2013 and is currently “coming summer 2015,” according to its landing page.

He began his new show with a little Jack Paar reference and finished with his Edward R. Murrow sign off, but in between, it was — for better and for worse — the old Keith Olbermann. (And most likely, the Keith Olbermann Espn intended to hire.) Olbermann wrapped himself in the banner of the Worldwide Leader, reminiscing through archived video clips of his younger days and poking fun of his first go-around at ESPN2 by donning the same infamous jacket he wore back in 1993 and updating his nose-cutting “welcome to the end of my career” remark for embattled Jets coach Rex Ryan.

Last month, Keith Olbermann‘s bosses at Espn and Disney said they were “blessed” to have him back — after very public stints at and exits from MSNBC and Current TV. Not to mention his nasty retreat from Espn in 1997. (The network expunged any trace of Olbermann from its 25th anniversary SportsCenter “Reunion Week.”) So there was plenty of anticipation about how his new weeknightly ESPN2 show Olbermann would play. As it turned out, there was snark but no fury. The issues he touched on mostly were East Coast-specific and not really controversial. He didn’t get into any of the recent headline-making stories involving his new network (the NFL concussions documentary, a new rival in Fox Sports 1, Nate Silver’s hiring). There was a bare-bones set and no splashy graphics, hinting that the Worldwide Leader is content to put the focus solely on Olbermann. The results were, of all things,...

Keith Olbermann returned to Espn for his new show, "Olbermann," the first show the pundit has done for the sports TV networks since 1997, when he wrapped up co-hosting "Sports Center" for the previous five years.

Bill O'Reilly opened his show tonight by attacking liberal hate speech on the divisive issues of race and gay marriage. O'Reilly, in particular, highlighted rhetoric used by sports writer Jason Whitlock, whose words on gun control following the murder-suicide committed by NFL linebacker Jovan Belcher were now-famously quoted last Sunday by Bob Costas. O'Reilly described his language as "pure racism" and responded to personal attacks leveled at him by Whitlock.

Bob Costas is unconcerned about the sniping over his comments advocating gun control during halftime of Sunday night's Eagles-Cowboys game. The NBC host, spurred by the murder-suicide of Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher and his girlfriend Kasandra Perkins, quoted a column by sportswriter Jason Whitlock that decried the current "gun culture" in America. Critics were quick to call Costas' comments uninformed and inappropriate, and as the debate raged Monday, Costas defended his words in an interview with The New York Times. The NBC sportscaster came under fire after using his halftime segment during Sunday Night Football on Dec. 2 to promote gun control following the tragic Jovan Belcher shooting. Do You think he should have given the speech? NBC sports broadcaster Bob Costas changed gears from sports reporting to politics when he used his halftime segment during Sunday Night Football to advocate for gun control. The controversial speech was in response to Kansas City Chief's linebacker Jovan Belcher's tragic murder-suicide on Dec. 1. Bob quoted an article by Fox Sports columnist Jason Whitlock, who used to work for the Kansas City Star, which pointed out the problem of gun control, and how tougher regulations could have prevented his and girlfriend Kassandra Perkins' death. "In the coming days, Jovan Belcher's actions and their possible connection to football will be analyzed. Who knows? But here, wrote Jason Whitlock, is what I believe," said, and then quoted the article,...

One day after NFL player Jovan Belcher murdered the mother of his 3-month-old daughter and took his own life in the parking lot of the team’s practice facility, his Kansas City Chiefs took the field to play the Carolina Panthers, winning 27-21. Clearly, though, the mourning team’s victory was not the main story, as teammates, fans, and the media tried to make sense of the tragedy.
It was so awful that Bob Costas used his powerful perch during halftime of NBC’s primetime broadcast last night to bring attention to a gun-culture that he says makes such tragedies all too common.

NBC Sports' Bob Costas took an unusual political stand during "Sunday Night Football" a day after Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher killed his girlfriend and himself. Belcher, 25, shot and killed the 22-year-old Perkins Saturday before driving to a stadium parking lot, where he shot himself in front of two coaches and the team's general manager. "Sunday Night Football" is usually a politics-free zone, but Costas read from a column by Kansas City-based FoxSports.com columnist Jason Whitlock, who said the availability of handguns amplifies small conflicts into deadly ones. Veteran broadcaster Bob Costas became the subject of pro-gun ire Sunday night when he offered up his thoughts on the tragic murder/suicide committed by Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher Saturday morning. Belcher shot and killed Kasandra Perkins, his girlfriend and the mother of his child, then drove to the Chiefs' practice facility and committed suicide in front of his coach and general manager. At the end of the Sunday Night Football halftime show, Costas weighed in on the tragedy by quoting, and endorsing, a column by Kansas City sportswriter Jason Whitlock that decried "our gun culture," and denounced handguns.

Steven Tyler has defended his performance of the Us National Anthem at a recent NFL game. The American Idol judge sang the patriotic song prior to the January 22 Afc Championship Game between the Baltimore Ravens and the New England Patriots. His version of the National Anthem drew a significant amount of a criticism online, including a tweet from Fox Sports writer Jason Whitlock which read: "Steven Tyler far more obscene than Janet Jackson's t*tty." The Aerosmith frontman discussed the performance in an interview with The AP, where he admitted to being confused as to why his performance was at all controversial. "I don't know [why people complained]. As I said before, I put emphasis on, 'In the land of the free' and I went up. Oddly enough I hit the note so I (more)...
