United Talent Agency is making changes to the leadership of its news and broadcasting department, the unit that negotiates on behalf of journalists and news personalities.
According to a memo sent to staff Tuesday by UTA vice-chairman Jay Sures and COO and co-head of UTA Sports Andrew Thau, the agency is elevating Ryan Hayden and Marc Paskin to be co-heads of its news and broadcasting department.
Peter Goldberg, who had led the department since 2017, will stay with the company as a partner and senior agent. Goldberg joined UTA in its acquisition of N.S. Bienstock, the agency that helped create the market for news and journalism talent under the leadership of the late Richard Leibner.
Paskin and Hayden will report to Sures in their new roles, with Hayden also continuing to oversee UTA Sports alongside Jerry Silbowitz, reporting in to Thau.

There was nothing inherently funny about the late O.J. Simpson‘s nearly yearlong trial on two murder charges. His ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend Ron Goldman had been brutally stabbed to death, and the prosecution was arguing that Simpson’s history of domestic abuse in his marriage had culminated in this act of deadly violence.
But Simpson’s celebrity as a football and movie star, his high-powered “Dream Team” of lawyers, the bizarre Ford Bronco chase before his arrest, and the sense that Los Angeles could once more...

It’s the NASCAR season and the world of sports is gearing up to witness some of the most amazing sports events in the world. Drawing thousands of viewers each time, the Daytona 500 is the iconic opening event of the NASCAR Cup Series, held annually at the Daytona International Speedway in Dayton Beach, Florida. And like every other year with a famous celeb serving as the Grand Marshall, it was Dwayne the Rock Johnson who held the title this time.
Dwayne Johnson (via Jimmy Kimmel)
Yet Johnson is not the only celebrity fond of high-speed racing and the thrill attached to it. NASCAR has witnessed more dignitaries and celebrities than events like the Oscars, for apparently driving around in circles is as hypnotizing and intriguing as it can get, literally.

The legal drama “Suits” may have been the show of the summer, but another beloved USA property is on top now.
Tony Shalhoub reprises his Emmy-winning role of Adrian Monk in “Mr. Monk’s Last Case: A Monk Movie,” a Peacock original that sees the ol’ detective with obsessive compulsive disorder return for one last case (or is it?) in the age of Covid. In the 90-minute film, which is now streaming, Monk is preparing for his stepdaughter Molly’s (Caitlin McGee) upcoming nuptials when he finds himself pulled into an investigation involving a charismatic billionaire with his eyes set on space (James Purefoy).
During its original run from 2002 to 2009, “Monk” was a critically acclaimed comedy and an Emmy mainstay, taking home eight awards in all. The 1997 race for the Heisman Trophy will be explored in an installment of the 14th season of ESPN’s “30 for 30” series.
Titled “The Great Heisman Race of 1997,” the ESPN Films docu will debut on Dec. 9 on ESPN immediately following the broadcast of the Heisman Trophy Ceremony, which will air on the network.
The doc will focus on the race between Peyton Manning and Charles Woodson. Manning stunned the sports world in 1997 by deciding to return for his senior season at the University of Tennessee and spurning the NFL, making him the Heisman front-runner as he set his sights on an SEC Championship. But while Manning was the preseason favorite, other candidates arrived during the season including Washington State quarterback Ryan Leaf, Marshall University’s wide receiver Randy Moss and Woodson (University of Michigan). The docu, directed by Gentry Kirby, will use archival footage to examine and unpack the race for the hallowed honor.

Friday, February 11, Netflix
Scammer season continues! This week’s biggest show is “Inventing Anna,” based on the real-life story of Anna Delvey nee Sorokin (played in the film by a comfortably over-the-top Julia Garner), a New York socialite who claimed to be a German heiress but was, in actuality, a Russian-born nobody. Watch as she cons her way into glittery parties, sweet-talks some of the most powerful financiers in the city into investing in her cockamamie schemes and burns every bridge she walks across (in her designer heels). Exclusive: Emmy-award winning director Steve Trout of NFL Films was sitting in a nondescript hotel conference room in Dallas, the clock ticking towards the biggest shoot of a documentary to be called The Perfect 10.
“Yesterday, we pre-lit everything,” Trout told Deadline. “Today was a full day of rehearsal.” If he was feeling pressure, he wasn’t letting on.
In the morning it would be game on: filming a group of football legends as they assembled for the first time—the only men to win a Heisman Trophy and be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Marcus Allen, Tim Brown, Earl Campbell, Tony Dorsett, Barry Sanders, Roger Staubach, and Charles Woodson, sitting down for a once-in-a-lifetime conversation as multiple cameras rolled.
“If you go by hardware, it really is the greatest collection of football talent at one place in one time,” Trout said. “It’s the coolest clubhouse in football history.

While hosting the 1998 ESPYs, the late, great Norm Macdonald told what this writer considers the greatest joke of all-time. It’s also the one that likely sealed Macdonald’s termination from “SNL.”
“And there’s Charles Woodson! How about that? What a season he had. He became the first defensive player to win the Heisman Trophy. Congratulations, Charles, that is something that no one can ever take away from you,” MacDonald said at the end of his monologue. “Unless you kill your wife and a waiter, in which case, all bets are off.”
Watch the video above.
Though we dislike explaining jokes even more than transcribing them, this one might require some context for the youngest adults. In 1994, O.J. Simpson was arrested and charged with the murders of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman.
The evidence seemed to overwhelmingly point to O.J. Simpson’s guilt,...

Coming off the back of another year of historic wide receiver play, New Orleans Saints star Michael Thomas has signed with UTA for off-the-field representation.
The talent agency will work with Thomas to pursue opportunities across film, TV, licensing and endorsements, as well as speaking, digital media and publishing, among other areas. Thomas joins UTA’s growing roster of athletic talent which also includes fellow NFL greats Von Miller, Rob Gronkowski and Charles Woodson.
The 26-year-old receiver, who hails from Los Angeles, holds the NFL record for the most receptions by a player in their first four seasons, as well as the record for most receptions by a player in a single season in NFL History. While this season ended in more disappointment for the New Orleans Saints after a Wild Card home playoff defeat to the Minnesota Vikings, Thomas still led the league by some distance in terms of receiving yards and total receptions.

It’s a ESPN promo called “New Mascot” and it shows Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock walk into a room for of innocent sports geeks, including former quarterback Charles Woodson and wide receiver Randy Moss, talking about sports mascots. For reason they think that Venom is the best choice. They bring him in the rom and he ends up trapping everyone, scaring the living shit out of them, and then proceeds to eat them. I don’t get it! I guess it’s supposed to be funny? Maybe people who watch ESPN will get it. It’s certainly the strangest add I’ve seen for the movie so far. The second promo spot features more footage of the villainous symbiote character, Riot.

Maybe you recognized Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele from their Mad TV days, or knew the latter from his Children's Hospital appearances; maybe you simply thought, it's a new Comedy Central series, let's check it out. But by the time the show concluded its five-season run of ridiculous college-football player names, Presidential anger-translations, weepy gangsters,...

New York — NBC will hold a benefit concert Friday for victims of Hurricane Sandy featuring some artists native to the areas hardest hit.
Bruce Springsteen and Jon Bon Jovi, both famously from New Jersey, and Billy Joel, whose own Long Island was hard hit, are scheduled to appear at the concert, hosted by "Today" show co-host Matt Lauer.
Others taking part include Christina Aguilera, Sting, Jimmy Fallon, Jon Stewart, Kevin Bacon, Mary J. Blige, Tina Fey, James Gandolfini and Al Roker.
Bon Jovi was in London when the storm hit. He canceled his plans to be with his family and was returning to New Jersey on Thursday, according to his representative. In a statement, he urged people to donate to the victims of the storm and asked those affected to have hope, comparing the weather disaster to 9/11.

Michigan football has a long history of taking recruits out of the state of Ohio. Michigan's last Heisman Trophy winner Charles Woodson was from Columbus, and of the 21 players commmitted to Michigan's class of 2013, eight are from Ohio.
But the inverse has never been true for Ohio State football recruiting. None of players in Urban Meyer's 2012 class were from Michigan. The Buckeyes get maybe one or two players a year from the Great Lakes State, the most significant in recent years probably being quarterback Craig Krenzel - who was no prize.

Meyer says that is going to change, however.
Meyer was in Southfield, Mich. today, attending high school football camp event also attended by Michigan coach Brady Hoke and Eastern Michigan's Ron English. He was asked about his ability to land recruits from Michigan.

Ari Emanuel and Charlize Theron will be among the Hollywood A-listers joining Barack Obama and the political elite at this year’s White House Correspondent’s dinner Saturday night. Politico announced today that the Wme CEO and Oscar-winning actress are coming to the Whca as their guests. Also invited are Desperate Housewives’ Eva Longoria, a longtime Obama supporter; Hollywood stylist and Bravo star Rachel Zoe; Apprentice judge Ivanka Trump; and MPAA chairman Chris Dodd. Former Michigan governor and Current TV host Jennifer Granholm and FCC chairman Julius Genachowski also are invited. Of course, they all might be overshadowed by Lindsay Lohan, who is expected to be a guest of Fox News’ Greta Van Susteran. ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel is headlining the dinner this year. The late-night host will take the podium after President Obama makes his own undoubtedly partisan jokes and cracks. Past headliners include Saturday Night Live’s Seth Meyers last year,...

Randy calls an audible and goes for a little Burt Reynolds.
It’s not too hard to connect the dots between professional football and prison, or between football and fine wine. It’s quite a bit harder to make a play for all three.
There is no shortage of star football players who have done a little time – or more – in the pokey. Conversely, some football folks have ventured into the field of wine. I’ll take football over prison and wine over either of those choices.
The Longest Yard has Burt Reynolds – himself a former college football player – as a prisoner who heads up the inmate football team in a contest against the guards, a game which is more than just a game to those on the field. It’s fantasy football with real consequences. These football heroes have numbers a lot longer than one or two digits; their football cards are mugshots.

Chances are you'll be watching the Super Bowl on Sunday (Feb. 6), what with all the ads people will be talking about and the Black Eyed Peas performing at halftime and a special, six-minutes-longer "Glee" airing afterward.
And, oh yeah, there's a football game going on as well. We know that the Super Bowl has become about much more than large men throwing an oblong ball around, but the spectacle wouldn't exist without the game. And the game, between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Green Bay Packers, has the potential to be very entertaining in its own right.
If you're not a regular football watcher -- and since the audience for Super Bowl Xlv will be in the 100 million-viewer range, that's got to be more than a few of you -- here are a few things that might help you enjoy the stuff between the commercials.

Touchdown at the White House: The First Family is getting into the spirit of Super Bowl Sunday by inviting some special guests, including Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony, over to watch the Big Game. In all, the Obamas are welcoming 100 people - relatives, friends, White House staff and Congress members. "I can't believe it!" the America Idol judge (and, with Anthony, a part-owner of the Miami Dolphins) told Extra, quickly adding in her excitement: "No, we're not crashing." Though President Obama had promised to catch the game live in Arlington, Texas, if his beloved Chicago Bears were in the game,...

Milwaukee — The guest list for President Barack Obama's White House Super Bowl party includes entertainers Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony as well as elected leaders from Wisconsin and Pennsylvania.
Obama said he'd go to the Super Bowl in Arlington, Texas, if the Bears won the Nfc title against the Green Bay Packers. But his team lost and the Packers are taking on the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday.
A White House spokesman said Thursday that about 100 people have been invited, including White House staff, family and friends and other members of Congress.
Among those expected to attend are Attorney General Eric Holder, Transportation Secretary Ray Lahood, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and Sens. Pat Toomey and Robert Casey Jr. of Pennsylvania and congressman Reid Ribble of Wisconsin.
Former Wisconsin Gov. Jim Doyle, Madison Mayor Dave Cieslewicz and Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett were also expected. In a news release, Barrett said he and his 18-year-old son,...

This is a list of 10 Real But Ridiculous 2011 Super Bowl Prop Bets — all of which have nothing to do with the actual game itself — along with their odds (explained here) and my supremely expert betting advice that is absolutely Guaranteed to win you CA$$$$$H!!! (Not really). Enough brief explaining, let’s get to the bet$: 10. How long will Christina Aguilera hold the note “Brave” at the end of the National Anthem? (Time starts from when she starts saying “Brave” until her the note ends. If she says the full word twice wagers will be No Action.) Over 6 seconds: -140 Under 6 seconds: Even Bet: Under. This is a classic prop bet where the odds are clearly titled towards the more fun/ridiculous option to bet; it’s amusing to bet money that Christina Aguilera will hold a note for a stupidly long amount of time, but is anyone actually...

Kind-hearted Oprah Winfrey tops the list of the most charitable celebrities. The media mogul is estimated to have donated more than $41 million through her initiative, Oprah Winfrey Foundation, which helps those in need for education access and programs for women and children.
This is not the first time Oprah leads the most generous celebrities list compiled by The Giving Back Fund. In fact, it's her third on the top spot. "There are many generous celebrities, but when you can top a list of celebrity philanthropists three out of four years, as Oprah has, that is saying something," Marc Pollick, president of The Giving Back Fund, said.
Coming at the second place is novelist Nora Roberts. She gave away around $4.45 million to her organization supporting literacy, children's programs and other humanitarian efforts. Meryl Streep and her hubby Donald J. Gummer follow at the third with a total of $4 million in donation...
