Lydia Deetz, her stepmother Delia and her daughter Astrid stand over a casket, the burial services in progress. We can barely make out who the funeral is for but there he is on the headstone: Charles Deetz. While Charles was once part of the Beetlejuice sequel when the ghost with the most was to “go Hawaiian”, he was written entirely out of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice…for reasons that will soon be obvious.
Despite the original’s and sequel’s dalliances with the afterlife, Jeffrey Jones will not be in Beetlejuice – or pretty much any other legitimate movie – following his disgraceful tumble from his small but reliable spotlight. Perfectly fitting into prestigious period pieces and goofball funny flicks. Jones is a Golden Globe nominee with consistent work – a mix of villain, comedic and at times patriarchal roles, Jeffrey Jones went from Ferris Bueller baddie to Who’s Your Caddy?

Sex and the City stars Sarah Jessica Parker and Kristin Davis have grown close over the years thanks to the show. So when Davis had to work with Parker’s husband Matthew Broderick in a movie, things became uncomfortable when the two had to get too close.
Kristin Davis once looked back at her awkward bed scene with Matthew Broderick Sarah Jessica Parker, Matthew Broderick, Kristin Davis | Jeffrey Mayer/WireImage
Broderick and Davis had already known each other for years behind the scenes. But they collaborated for the first time in the 2006 Christmas film Deck the Halls. The feature was a comedy about two neighbors fighting over Holiday decorations, with Davis playing Broderick’s wife.
Working with Davis wasn’t a big deal for the Ferris Bueller star, especially since the movie wasn’t heavy in romance. Parker also helped put in a good word for her Sex and the City co-star.

Cancel culture has existed since the end of the olde worlde and the beginning of the new. Persecution and witch hunts have evolved into a more technologically savvy practice of removing whatever subverts the mob mentality. Now, it seems like The Office has become the latest victim to fall into the clutches of cancel culture.
The Office [Courtesy: BBC]Ricky Gervais’ show was always a series packed with risks, the bold statement of work existing even to this day speaks to its nature. However, the threat of criticism always looms and it’s only a matter of time until the sentiment of the masses gets strong enough to justify its cancelation and remove it completely from pop culture.
Ricky Gervais Sets the Record Straight for The Office
The notorious David Brent, who is known for his crass sexist and racist jabs, has mostly targeted his well-meaning, generously of sound mind, and moderately educated employees.

The Story: A goofball gym teacher (Mark Harmon) is forced to teach a remedial English class over the summer.
The Players: Starring: Mark Harmon, Kirstie Alley, Dean Cameron, Courtney Thorne-Smith & Shawnee Smith. Music by Danny Elfman. Directed by Carl Reiner.
The History: Hollywood spent a couple of years trying to make Mark Harmon happen as a movie star. Fresh off an arc on “St. Elsewhere” which infamously had his character contract AIDS from a one-night stand, his career was red hot. For a while, he was seriously considered to replace Don Johnson on “Miami Vice” after contract negotiations fell through, and in 1987-88, we got a bunch of starring vehicles that would try him out in a variety of genres to see if one would stick. He did action in The Presidio (even doing his own stunts – although the film was stolen by co-star Sean Connery), drama in Stealing Home,...

The Office is undoubtedly one of the best sitcom series ever to be made. Adapted from the British television series of the same name, both series have received critical acclaim and are hailed among some of the best TV shows to have been created. Despite being an adaptation of its British counterpart, the American Office has received vast fame and popularity and has become a staple of popular culture.

Director Wade Allain-Marcus reflected on his experience directing his new film, Don’t Tell Mom The Babysitter’s Dead, in his new uInterview.
Inspired by the 1991 film of the same name, the movie follows a teenager whose summer plans are canceled when his and his siblings’ babysitter unexpectedly dies.
Allain-Marcus thought back on the process of remaking a film, “For me when I read the script, being aware of the original but not necessarily holding it precious, was just sort of like, ‘Oh this could be a really interesting remix of the original by using some of the tent-poles from the first one and then being able to kind of take off from there.'”
When asked about the experience on set, Allain-Marcus revealed, “We shot this film in 22 days, in the midst of the writer’s strike, so a lot of that, emotionally and physically, was quite challenging. A lot of...

In previous articles, we have taken a look at stars of the past we would like to see make a comeback – and there are a lot of them! It was too hard to narrow it down to just a few, so now we’ve put together another list of 80s stars we want back, including a couple of Freddy victims, some 1980s beauties we miss, and a lady we’ve only seen twice on our screens.

Combining different iconic pop culture elements with almost nothing in common can be really difficult. But when it came to Deadpool, Wade Wilson said ‘hold my post-credit scenes’. Well, according to Marvel’s 2016 Ryan Reynolds installment, the movie featured an iconic scene by re-enacting a particular sequence from The Office, and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.

This article contains spoilers for Curb Your Enthusiasm season 12 episode 4 “Disgruntled.”
In its 12th and final season, Curb Your Enthusiasm has finally revealed its true colors. In addition to being a highly-choreographed comedic machine with improvised dialogue, the Larry David series is also something far more recognizable: a high school comedy.
Much like Saved by the Bell, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, or even Animal House, Curb Your Enthusiasm features a regressive institution and a hero who battles against it to establish their individuality. It’s just that, on Curb Your Enthusiasm, the regressive institution isn’t a high school or college but the Ocean View Country Club and that hero isn’t a high school senior but a senior citizen.

Alan Ruck has been playing the role of Connor Roy in HBO’s “Succession” and getting his due credit. However, it all began for him with 1986’s all-time classic “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”. He played the nervous, fast-talking Cameron Frye in John Hughes’ classic. He reluctantly got dragged along on Ferris’ epic adventure, stealing his dad’s Ferrari and causing delightful mayhem throughout Chicago.

Ronald Washington, one of the two defendants standing trial for allegedly killing Jam Master Jay, chuckled in court on Wednesday when his attorney, Susan Kellman, invoked Harry Potter in her closing arguments.
The moment came as she discussed the prosecution’s theory that Washington and the other defendant, Karl Jordan Jr., were waiting on a fire escape to enter the recording studio where the DJ, whose real name was Jason Mizell, was killed. She said it was impossible, since the two men would have been seen on surveillance video. Then she paused dramatically.

Who’s ready for a joyride? The long-rumored Ferris Bueller’s Day Off spin-off, Sam and Victor’s Day Off, is ready to twist and shout with David Katzenberg at the helm. According to industry insider Jeff Sneider, Katzenberg is buckling up for a film featuring the two mischievous valets who borrowed Cameron’s father’s Ferrari to rip through the streets of Chicago joyously! In his newsletter, Sneider says the duo’s adventure takes place on a single day, with Sam and Victor grabbing life by the short and curlies for a fast-paced tear through city streets.
Sam and Victor’s Day Off will be Katzenberg’s feature directorial debut after helming numerous television episodes for various shows. Famously known in the industry for directing 41 episodes of The Goldbergs, Katzenberg’s director credits extend to Young Rock, 9-1-1: Lone Star, The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers, Schooled, Riverdale, and more.

John Hughes’ 1986 classic Ferris Bueller’s Day Off holds a revered place in cinematic history, cherished for its timeless charm and witty humor despite originating from the sitcom genre. However, the prospect of a spin-off film, tentatively titled Sam and Victor’s Day Off, has thrust the beloved original into the spotlight once more.
With Paramount Pictures at the helm, David Katzenberg is set to direct the anticipated follow-up.
Ferris Bueler’s Day Off
Yet, the reaction from die-hard fans of the original has been less than enthusiastic, casting doubt on the spin-off’s potential success. Critics argue that the decision to create a spinoff movie is motivated purely by financial gain rather than artistic integrity.
The sentiment among fans underscores apprehension that the spin-off could veer into the realm of disappointment, failing to capture the essence that made the original a cult classic.

This post contains spoilers for Madame Web.
There are exactly two good things in Madame Web. No, it’s not the meme-worthy line about moms and Amazons, which doesn’t even appear in the movie. Neither is it all of the winks toward Peter Parker nor the young female Spider-heroes who (spoiler) have only two brief scenes in costume.
No, one good thing in Madame Web is the old-school Marvel logo that opens the film. The simple flipping of comics pages that dissolves into the big red block with the word “Marvel” in white font, before MCU movies replaced it with their busy fanfare.
The other good thing happens at the end of the movie. Or rather, it doesn’t happen. Because after Madame Web‘s closing scene, a very stupid looking close-up on Cass Web’s blank face, played by the ever-wooden Dakota Johnson, credits roll and that’s it.

Presented by Lisa Frankenstein, 1989 Week is dialing the clock back to the crossroads year for the genre with a full week of features that dig six feet under into the year. Today, it all comes to an end as Rachel Reeves searches for scares in the suburbs.
In the back half of the 1980s, the American suburbs experienced a resurgence in popularity. As global instabilities stabilized and economies began to boom, moving to the suburbs became a sign of financial and professional success. Primarily populated by young families, the suburbs also became associated with traditional family values, safety, and community. However, as any true crime enthusiast knows, some things (and some people) are not always as innocent as they appear.

In January of 1999, two teen movies opened back to back and kicked off what would be one of the most extraordinary years for youth-oriented movies in the history of Hollywood. Both were No. 1 at the box office their first weekend. Both boasted remarkable casts of rising stars — they even shared a star in Paul Walker. And both whipped ancient genre conventions into new combinations that made them fresh and new. Yet for all their similarities, “Varsity Blues” and “She’s All That” couldn’t have been more different: one an R-rated sports drama that tempered its inspirational coming-of-age drama with surprisingly harsh depictions of misogyny and physical and mental abuse, the other a sweet, good-natured romantic comedy nearly as innocent as a Mickey Rooney-Judy Garland vehicle from the 1940s. In their similarities and differences lies the key to why 1999 was such a great year for movies of their type — the 1939 of teen movies.

Kevin Spacey, the two-time Oscar winner who has largely avoided the public eye since his career imploded in the early days of the #MeToo era, is making moves to venture back into the public space.
The actor has booked his first comic book convention appearance, set for Feb. 16-18 at Mad Monster, the con held in Concord, North Carolina. Organizers announced Wednesday that he will be among the guests signing autographs and posing for photos. He is also in business with the company Everest Autographs, which is arranging for autograph purchases for those not attending the event in person.
Spacey won Oscars for The Usual Suspects (1995), the cult crime drama that resonates with corners of the comic con crowd, and for American Beauty (1999). The "Back to the Future" films are incredibly beloved, with a unique impact on pop culture that's almost hard to quantify. Robert Zemeckis' 1985 film "Back to the Future" spawned two sequels, a video game, and even a musical, as well as providing the genesis for the adult cartoon "Rick and Morty." The first movie is a zany tale of down-on-his-luck teenager Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) who ends up traveling through time in a DeLorean with the help of mad scientist Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd), wreaking havoc on the timeline and engaging in all kinds of silly time travel tropes along the way. The second film is a direct continuation of the first, with time travel to 1955 and 2015 to try and create the best future for Marty and his family. It's not as beloved as the first movie, but folks are still pretty fond of it. Then there's the "Back to the Future Part III,...

Jodie Foster in ‘True Detective: Night Country episode 1 (Photograph by Michele K. Short/HBO)
Two-time Oscar winner Jodie Foster takes on her first starring role in a television series in 50 years with HBO’s True Detective: Night Country. The fourth season of the award-winning anthology series marks the first season without creator Nic Pizzolatto guiding the action. Instead, Night Country has Issa López at the helm as writer, director, and showrunner of what is easily the best season since the series’ first, proving a fresh set of eyes was exactly what was needed in this case.
Season one starred Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, and season two focused on characters played by Colin Farrell, Taylor Kitsch, and Rachel McAdams. Season three, which debuted in January 2019, starred Mahershala Ali, Carmen Ejogo, and Stephen Dorff. Looking back, 2014 was truly a different time: Obama was in office, skinny jeans still reigned supreme and “True Detective” established itself with an unabashed emphasis on masculinity. Three years earlier, Ryan Murphy had revived the anthology series with “American Horror Story,” but it took the imprimatur of HBO, massive movie stars and a “serious” genre like crime to give the format real prestige. In pairing Matthew McConaughey with Woody Harrelson on a journey through the bayou, creator Nic Pizzolatto elevated some of that genre’s clichés and left others intact — including a marginal presence for women, crowded into bit roles as wives and villains to make room for portentous monologues and four-minute tracking shots.
The fourth season of “True Detective,” subtitled “Night Country,” is both a sharp break from the show’s past and an implicit response to its shortcomings. After a disastrous Season 2 and an improved, if understated, Season...

Back in 1996, the Twister cast, outside of Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton was largely unknown. At the time, not too many of them were famous. However, in the years since the film, much of that has changed and much of the Twister cast has gone on to fame both in front and behind the camera.
Helen Hunt was arguably the film’s biggest star in the cast back in ’96, but she wasn’t the first choice for the movie. Before the role of Dr. Jo Harding went to her, Jurassic Park standout Laura Dern, Bridget Fonda, and Kate Mulgrew almost wore the good doctor’s white tank top and reinforced mud-stompers. Initially, Tom Hanks eyed the role of Bill Harding but ultimately felt Twister wasn’t the right fit for his brand of character creation. You know what they say about Old Man Marley, the South Bend Shovel Slayer? Back in ’58, he murdered his whole family and half the people on a suburban Chicago block with a snow shovel. He’s been hiding out there ever since, disguising the remains of his misdeeds by turning victims to mummies, and using the dust off their bones to salt our streets.
That’s what the kids in the McCallister house tell each other every cold December night when the lonely stranger played by Roberts Blossom appears outside their window. It’s of course a lie, but the truth was originally a lot more enigmatic in the early drafts of the Home Alone screenplay penned by John Hughes, who was a maestro of family and youth entertainment during the 1980s and early ‘90s.
At its inception, Home Alone was both a departure and a return to the well for Hughes.

Alan Ruck is stepping out for the first since his headline-making crash.
The 67-year-old Succession and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off actor stepped out to run a few errands on Thursday afternoon (November 2) in Los Angeles.
Alan was seen wearing a gray zip-up hoodie, a black hoodie, and a knee support brace as he hopped into the driver’s seat of a navy SUV and driving off after a quick stop to a convenient store.
Earlier in the week, it was reported that Alan drove his Rivian truck into the side of Raffallo’s Pizza at the intersection of La Brea Avenue and Hollywood Boulevard at around 9pm on Tuesday night.
TMZ reports that “surveillance appears to show Alan‘s truck collide with another vehicle from behind, pushing it into the intersection as Alan‘s truck smashes into the building.”
Alan has not yet publicly addressed the crash.

While it’s hard not to pick favorites, there’s no such thing as a definitive version of a story. Sure, some retellings are bound to be more popular than others, but there’s nothing necessarily wrong with updating a compelling idea for a new audience. That being said, it’s quite rare for a new version of an established intellectual property to stand on its own merits, with most remakes and adaptations being content with simply rehashing the things that made their predecessors successful instead of finding a new angle from which to tell an original story.
In television, this means that we’ve seen plenty of forgettable shows based on existing franchises, with everything from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off to Clueless spawning soulless spin-offs meant to capitalize on brand awareness. And when it comes to horror, the situation was even more dire before the genre renaissance of the mid 2010s,...

Note: This story contains spoilers for “Only Murders in the Building” Season 3, Episode 7.
“Only Murders in the Building” has banked on impressive celebrity cameos in the past, and Tuesday’s latest episode kept that going with comedy powerhouses visiting the Arconia. After Charles (Steve Martin) quits Oliver’s (Martin Short) new musical, the latter decides to bring in Matthew Broderick as his prospective replacement.
“I’ve known Matthew for many years and obviously he’s a natural fit for this show. It’s just a pure comedy slayer coming in this way that only he can do,” showrunner John Hoffman told TheWrap in an interview facilitated through his publicist and in accordance to WGA guidance. “I have to say the writers writing these wicked Ferris Bueller jokes and him rolling with that, it’s sweet to see them all jump up and step up and play along.”

“Ferris Bueller may take a day off, but Matthew Broderick does not,” the two-time Tony winner vows upon his arrival in Tuesday’s Only Murders in the Building.
The stage veteran makes a meal out of his brief stint at the Arconia, playing a heightened (read: extremely pompous) version of himself in Episode 7. “I had worked with Matthew years ago [on the 2003 movie Good Boy], and he was a natural fit for this show,” series co-creator John Hoffman tells TVLine. Plus, Broderick’s Producers pal was already a member of the Only Murders comedy troupe.

Bueller? Bueller? To many, Matthew Broderick will always be Ferris Bueller, the king of skipping school, dodging pesky principals and parade serenades. Broderick is well aware of this, fessing up that character will be his legacy.
Speaking with The Guardian, Matthew Broderick admitted he will forever be tied to Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, saying, “What’s my legacy? Well, I’m Ferris Bueller, I suppose. I have to accept it. And I like it. I’ve made my peace with it.” Broderick almost seems a bit reluctant to latch onto the reputation of Ferris Bueller, although that might be because the movie is almost 40 years old and was part of the early stage of his career, adding, “I’m not ready for people to start discussing my legacy…And I have this Pollyanna streak that keeps me going. I always like to think there’s something coming that’s better.

Matthew Broderick has enjoyed a career lasting 40 years on stage, screen and now TV, but he accepts the headline of his legacy will always be Ferris Bueller.
The star of new Netflix drama Painkiller, a fictionalized retelling of the origins and aftermath of the opioid epidemic in which he plays former president of Purdue Pharma Richard Sackler, told the UK’s Guardian newspaper: “What’s my legacy? Well, I’m Ferris Bueller, I suppose. I have to accept it. And I like it. I’ve made my peace with it.”
Of his evolving career since the hit 1986 film written and directed by John Hughes about a teenage schoolboy playing truant in Chicago, he said: “People associated me with younger roles, but I wanted them to come with me and get used to the fact that I’m wrinkly. And it was hard. The 90s were hard. Lots of ups and downs.

Heavy spoilers for "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem" to follow.
"Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" was a miracle of filmmaking, a movie that shouldn't work -- it has too many characters, drastically different visual styles throughout, and a story that is simultaneously too kid-friendly for adults yet too adult for the demographic normally associated with American animation. Yet not only did work, but the film became a smash hit (joining our list of the best movies of all time). More importantly, it proved that animated movies could look like stylized concept art and still find an audience, a big one at that. Since then, we've seen many other movies experiment with their own unique visual styles and with stories that are bolder and more mature than, say, "Minions" or "The Boss Baby."

It’s hard to believe today, after Speed and four Matrix movies, and four John Wick movies, but there
was a time when Keanu Reeves was not considered viable as an action star, especially after his portrayal
of lovable time-traveling doofus Ted Theodore Logan in Bill & Ted’S Excellent Adventure.
But that perception radically changed in 1991 with the adrenaline extravaganza Point Break, which
featured Reeves as an FBI agent hot on the trail of some bank-robbing surfers led by Patrick Swayze. But how exactly did this preposterous combination ever reach the beach? Grab your board and catch a wave as we find out Wtf Happened to this movie!
The idea for Point Break first surfaced in the mind of filmmaker Rick King [The Killing Time] after he
saw a newspaper article declaring Los Angeles as the bank-robbing capital of America thanks to the
getaway convenience provided by the city’s numerous freeways.

It may not have had the star power fans or the studio hoped for, but Paramount’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem kicked off the movie panels at San Diego Comic-Con in fine style.
Due to the writers and actors strikes, the studio didn’t have Seth Rogen, who is both one of the movie’s producers and actors, nor any other voice stars. But it did bring out director Jeff Rowe and plenty of footage from the movie.
Twenty minutes of footage, to be precise. Rowe showed off a chunk from the beginning of the movie and, judging by the reaction, it went over gangbusters. The hall, while not packed in the usual way, still had thousands in their seats, and the audience was howling for the film, which opens Aug. 2 in theaters.

Life’s moved pretty fast since Ferris Bueller’s Day Off premiered, so it’s finally getting the 4K Ultra HD treatment: Paramount Home Entertainment is releasing a remastered version of John Hughes’ 1986 classic on August 1st.
The 4K Bueller keeps the spirit of the Reagan-era teen comedy alive with all the contemporary bells and whistles. In addition to the remaster with Dolby Vision, Hdr-10, and Dolby Atmos sound, the re-release includes a bunch of exclusive bonus content, including the late Hughes’ original director’s commentary, which has not been available on disc since Bueller’s first DVD release in 1999. You’ll also have access to plenty of behind-the-scenes footage and “lost tapes.”

Succession star Alan Ruck reveals in an exclusive with uInterview his thoughts on the show’s finale.
While he did enjoy acting on the show he noted that, “[creator] Jesse [Armstrong]’s right to end it now. I think we’ll go out on a real high. I think it’s the best season we’ve done, really, and then we’ve done some pretty good stuff, you know. But I think it’s our best season. I think he’s smart to end it now, we’ll go out on a high note. Ruck has played Connor Roy since the show started in 2018. His character is the eldest son of Logan Roy and Logan’s first wife, whom he divorced. Throughout the show, he and his siblings, Roman, Kendall and Shiv, fight for control of their father’s company, Waystar Royco.

“Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it,” like Matthew Broderick almost missed the opportunity to star in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off because of complications with the film’s director, John Hughes. During an appearance on The Hollywood Reporter’s “It Happened in Hollywood” podcast, Broderick said he and Hughes butted heads in the lead-up to filming the beloved comedy.
“He was nervous [the film] wouldn’t come out right,” Broderick said about Hughes’s apprehension toward his performance. According to Broderick, Hughes’s apprehension stemmed from early costume test footage featuring him and co-stars Mia Sara, Alan Ruck, and Jennifer Grey walking around Chicago streets. Broderick says Hughes thought the trio lacked chemistry and were boring to watch.

In a new interview, Matthew Broderick says he would occasionally “butt heads” with John Hughes during the making of the 1986 comedy classic Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.
“He was not easygoing in some ways,” Broderick, 61, says of the late writer-director legend on The Hollywood Reporter’s It Happened in Hollywood podcast. “He was nervous it wouldn’t come out right.”
Broderick fondly recalls spending hours in Hughes’ swimming pool in Brentwood around the time of the filming, “smoking cigarettes and eating potato chips” as they discussed the role that would eventually shoot the actor, then 23, to superstardom.
But things got off to a bumpy start when filming began on location in Chicago in September 1985.
“I remember we did a costume test early on,” Broderick recalls. “We walked around the streets of Chicago in our costumes and they filmed us — me, Alan [Ruck], Jennifer Grey and Mia [Sara].
“That was a big drama.

My name is Paul Young, and I own a management company called Make Good Content. I am writing to you because our entertainment community needs a leader. We need someone in power to take responsibility for making such a mess of things. We need a CEO who will seek to understand the writers’ concerns, not refuse to acknowledge their proposals, and then do something about what he’s learned. Quite simply, we need a rich guy to do the right thing. Even when it costs money.
