It's fair to say that Lee Chang-dong is one of the leading lights in South Korean cinema, if not cinema in general, though his relatively sparse output over the last decade leaves us yearning for more. His debut made a quarter of a century ago, while not as accomplished as his subsequent five films, features many of the themes that would appear throughout his oeuvre, and serves as a strong foundation for the rest of his work to build on.
Film Movement Presents The Films Of Lee Chang-dong, A Retrospective Showcase Including The US Theatrical Premieres Of New 4K Restorations Of Green Fish, Peppermint Candy, Oasis & Poetry In Seleected Cinemas In Canada And The US
Makdong (Han Suk-kyu) is fresh out of his army service and is returning home on the train. It is here he meets the mysterious Mi-ae (Shim Hye-jin), trying – and failing – to come to her rescue from a group of thugs.

It isn’t every day you encounter a pop-disco musical about a buoyant aspiring circus performer and a brooding aspiring rock singer with competing Mommy issues falling in love in Mexico City against the electricized rearrangements of the Indigo Girls. And that’s not exactly lamentable, because I wouldn’t categorize English-language Glitter & Doom as necessarily essential cinema … though I also couldn’t accuse it of being anything other than original either. (Well, except for the foundational premise of opposites attracting and then ultimately clashing over dueling artistic ambitions.) Director Tom Gustafson (Were the World Mine) has crafted a sweet if plodding love story but it’s hard to truly hate on this whirling candy-colored poetic fairytale — it’s just too sincere, much like the musical source material.
It is perhaps somewhat unexpected that the oeuvre of a folk duo led by two down-to-earth platonic queer women (considered to...

Spoiler Alert: This article contains spoilers for “Backstab and Betrayal,” the sixth episode of “The Traitors” Season 2, now streaming on Peacock.
Not once in his two-season run on CBS’ “Big Brother” did legendary player Dan Gheesling see his name written down for eviction. More than a decade later, it is still an impressive feat in the annals of reality competition history.
But Gheesling’s clean record came to an end on Thursday when he watched all but one of his 12 costars on “The Traitors” scribble his name on their chalkboard and banish him from the Scottish castle for correctly deducing that he, in fact, was a Traitor. But Gheesling’s exit from the game wasn’t exactly a shock after last week’s episode, when he made what would become the fatal mistake of trying to murder Carsten “Bergie” Bergersen based on false intel planted by Peter Weber, who suspected Gheesling of being a Traitor.

“Good Omens” Renewed for Third and Final Season
Some good comes with some bad. Prime Video has announced a Season 3 renewal for its fan-favorite series “Good Omens,” starring David Tennant and Michael Sheen. However, the third season will be its last.
While the British comedy series was initially launched as a limited series, its popularity led to it being renewed for a second season, which premiered this past July. The story follows fussy angel and rare book dealer Aziraphale (Sheen) and fast-living demon Crowley (Tennant), who team up to form an unlikely alliance in an attempt to stop the approaching Armageddon.
Watch the trailer for “Good Omens” Season 2 below:
According to book and series creator Neil Gaiman, the forthcoming season will bring to life a conversation he and his co-writer, the late Sir Terry Pratchett, had nearly 35 years ago where they mapped out what happens next for their characters.

Woo! Kinnaman! Christmas! Lock ' load. Lionsgate has launched the first official trailer for Silent Night, a surprise John Woo action movie dropping in theaters this year. The legendary Chinese action filmmaker is back after his 2017 movie Manhunt with something fresh and fun. With virtually no dialogue throughout the entire film (hence the film's title), Silent Night is, in a sense, a modern day silent film – mixing elements of A Quiet Place meets Peppermint meets Drive - into one insanely unexpected, immersive experience. Bring on the mayhem. A grieving father enacts his long-awaited revenge against a ruthless gang on Christmas Eve. Joel Kinnaman stars, joined by Catalina Sandino Moreno, Scott Mescudi, Harold Torres, Yoko Hamamura, and Vinny O'Brien. Woo, one of the "masters of action", showcases Kinnaman's intensely emotional acting chops and deftly balances a gripping core family story, before diving into a whirlwind of guns-a-blazing fight scenes and Fast & Furious-style car chases.

Each week on “The Pit Stop,” Bianca Del Rio recaps the latest episode of “RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars” season 8 alongside a guest host. Following Friday’s seventh episode, season 14 alum Deja Skye makes her “Pit Stop” debut to chat about “Forensic Queens.” Watch the full episode above via the official RuPaul’s Drag Race channel on YouTube.
In their recap of the episode, Deja tells Bianca that she thinks Kahanna Montrese has been “killing it” on the runway and that Jessica Wild is the one keeping her entertained. Still, Bianca found time to point out how big of a fan Deja is of Bianca and then continued to make Deja fall out of her chair laughing throughout the episode. In their calmer moments, Deja was able to explain to Bianca that like Peppermint last week, the game should not be based on track record and each queen should play for themselves.

Each week on “The Pit Stop,” Bianca Del Rio recaps the latest episode of “RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars” season 8 alongside a guest host. Following Friday’s sixth episode, Bianca’s fellow New York City legend and friend of nearly 20 years Peppermint shares her thoughts about “Joan: The Unauthorized Rusical.” Watch the full episode above via the official RuPaul’s Drag Race channel on YouTube.
In their recap of the episode, Peppermint said that she actually likes when alliances form in all star seasons, but Bianca took issue with Kandy Muse changing up the rules of going by track record when she made her elimination decision this week. They also discussed that Jimbo is the clear front runner after getting her third challenge win and that Kahanna Montrese is on thin ice based on track record alone. Peppermint thinks that at the start of the competition the queens should go by...

There are many challenges that without a doubt occur at some point in any season of Drag Race. Whether that be a songwriting challenge, the snatch game or (most importantly for the most recent episode) a design challenge where the queens have to create unique outfits in the werk-room. One of the biggest storylines going into this season was that infamous bag dress created by Lala Ri in her original season and how she would cope with a design challenge when she was invited back for All-Stars eight. She showcased incredible growth with her handmade outfit this time but the best dresses award was reserved for Jessica Wilde who also won the preceding lip-sync to gain a $30,000 cash tip in the process! My favourite outfit from this episode would have to be Jessica’s diary queen outfit which was a gorgeous white gown with cascading fruit loops scattered around the dress!

Peppermint wants back on “RuPaul’s Drag Race.” She famously was runner-up in Season 9 when Sasha Velour took the crown after her iconic rose petal-filled finale lip sync.
“I would love to go on ‘All Stars,’” Peppermint tells me on this week’s episode of the “Just for Variety” podcast. She was asked to compete in 2018 but was already booked for the Go-Go’s Broadway musical, “Head Over Heels.” “I will happily go onto the show if they invite me,” Peppermint says. “It is quite expensive and quite an investment, but I do think it could be worth it.”
Peppermint will next be seen in “A Transparent Musical,” opening May 23 at the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles. She plays Davina, a role originated on the “Transparent” television series by Alexandra Billings. Peppermint recalls having “two-person watch parties” with her music producer when the series first premiered on Amazon in 2014.
