The episode of "The Twilight Zone" called "Once Upon a Time" is one of the show's attempts at comedy and, by most viewers' gauges, didn't really work. "Once Upon a Time" starred the silent film superstar and immortal filmmaker Buster Keaton as a sad sack janitor named Woodrow Mulligan living in a small middle-American town called Harmony in 1890. Mulligan hates the fancy-pants modern inventions like bicycles and resents that livestock roam the street. The 1890 sequences were filmed in the style of a silent movie with no dialogue, plinking piano music, and intertitles. Mulligan works for a mad scientist who has invented a time-travel helmet that can bring its wearer into the year 1961, but only for 30 minutes. Mulligan, desperate to see his hometown grown up, gives it a shot.
In the year 1961, now filmed with sound, Mulligan meets Rollo (Stanley Adams) a scientist who feels nostalgia for a simpler time, a...

Some films begin with a grander idea than one they can actually execute. For a film, it’s good to have a grand concept, no doubt, but it’s better when the film knows that it doesn’t and begins from an honest space. Fast Charlie, the 2023 Pierce Brosnan film, never tries to become ‘bigger,’ a ‘spectacle,’ and therein lies its strength. With some clever writing from Richard Wenk and Victor Gischler, Fast Charlie benefits from Brosnan’s on-screen persona and Morena Baccarin’s turn as a high-iq taxidermist who just knows how to calmly deal with the criminal world if ever it comes too close to destroying her own. There is James ‘Jimmy’ Caan in a short but emotionally powerful role as well, and he plays his bit well in the penultimate film of his career. Through some engaging twists and turns, the film becomes a refreshing action thriller...

And just like that, the future of the United States of America is secure, thanks in large part to none other than Jamie Fraser.
Would we have expected any less from our hero?
Outlander Season 7 Episode 8 wound down the first half of the season on that significant front, and it cued up expectations for the second half of the season.
We've come to an awkward part of Outlander where history and our story intersect to the point there isn't much room for concern, even when characters' lives are hanging in the balance.
That doesn't even take into consideration that the material is relatively set in stone thanks to the incredible universe Diana Gabaldon created through her novels.
Sitting back and allowing the story to wash over you is wise in cases like these. But at the same time, episodes and seasons are crafted as if they want you on the edge of your seat,...

Starz’s Outlander season seven episode five splits time between Brianna starting work in her new job as Plant Inspector and Jamie, Claire, and Ian’s experiences in Fort Ticonderoga.
The episode begins with Brianna (Sophie Skelton) finding Jemmy and Mandy in the old family graveyard and reminding them it’s not a playground. Jem admits that Mandy wanted to speak to granddad, although no one knows if that’s where he’s buried. Bree agrees it’s possible, and Jem confesses that he built a cairn for Jamie.
It’s too difficult for Bree even to enter the graveyard, so she remains at the gate. She’s not ready to take that step yet.

Both Florence + the Machine and Muse are set to perform at upcoming award shows this February. Hitfix has a quick look at Florence + The Machine who are set to perform with A.R. Rahman in singing If I Rise from 127 Hours at the Academy Awards on the 27th. Then Gibson is letting us know that Muse are set to perform at The Grammy Awards on the 13th. Read more below:
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the performers of the best original song Oscar nominees this year and, happily, most of the original artists will appear live at the Kodak Theater. The only surprise is the inclusion of hipster favorite Florence Welch of Florence + the Machine.
The British songstress will join previous Academy Award winner A.R. Rahaman in performing “If I Rise” from “127 Hours.” Dido sings on the original movie recording and is also a nominee along with her brother Rollo Armstrong for the song’s lyrics.

Muse have been confirmed as one of the many acts that will perform at the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards. The British rockers will join previously announced performers Arcade Fire, Cee Lo Green, Eminem, Katy Perry and Lady Gaga.
Matt Bellamy and company are nominated for three awards this year, including Best Rock Album (The Resistance), Best Rock Song (“Resistance”) and Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group (“Resistance”).
The Grammy telecast begins at 8 p.m. Sunday, February 13 on CBS. The awards ceremony will be broadcast live from The Staples Center in Los Angeles.
Read more at Gibson here.
There’s even a rumor that Muse will be performing something with Lady Gaga….
I know I wouldn’t miss Muse’s performance for anything. I look forward to whatever or whoever they sing with. Remember The Twilight Saga: Eclipse Soundtrack is nominated for a Grammy Award as well!

It's been almost 12 years since Gwyneth Paltrow took to the stage of the Academy Awards as the Best Actress winner for her work in "Shakespeare in Love." Now, Paltrow will return to the Oscar stage once again, only this time, not as a nominee or presenter, rather, as something she's been a lot more of these days — a performer.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Paltrow will perform the Best Original Song nominee "Coming Home" (with music and lyrics by nominees Tom Douglas, Troy Verges and Hillary Lindsey) from her movie "Country Strong" during the 83rd Annual Academy Awards on Sunday, February 27.

The Oscar nominations have been announced and it’s great to see Inception, Toy Story 3, Alice in Wonderland, Harry Potter, How to Train Your Dragon, Iron Man 2, Tangled, Tron, and Wolfman being honored this year. This year’s nominations hit the familiar marks that the sci-fi genre is most associated with in the categories of special effects, art direction, animation, costuming, and make-up.
Inception is the most visibly well-rounded in achievements in film-making and leads the sci-fi/fantasy pack with eight nominations, though director Christopher Nolan was snubbed in the Best Director nominations. Toy Story 3 follows with an impressive five nominations, and both films garnered nominations in the Best Picture category.

Like we promised yesterday, the 83rd annual Academy Award nominations have been announced this morning -- following yesterdays Razzie nominees funnily enough! Announced at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Los Angeles, California by President Tom Sherak and last year's Best Supporting Actress winner Mo'Nique. So this means that the winners of these categories, will go on to be announced at the event itself - hosted by 2011 nominees Anne Hathaway, and James Franco (unfortunately Rickey Gervais was busy) - which is held February 27th.
Looking at the nominations for 2011, it looks like The King's Speech and The Fighter are looking at some good wins, with 12-13 nods each -- along with, of course The Social Network. But whats got me, is the lack of nominations for Nolan's Inception -- which was bloody fantastic, and my second favorite of the year.
It just seems that they are over shadowing it with dramas,...

Tom Hooper’s The King’s Speech lead the Oscar nominations this morning with twelve mentions, making the regal drama the film to beat at the 83rd Annual Academy Awards on February 27.
The Coen brothers’ True Grit followed closely with ten nominations and early frontrunner The Social Network finished with eight. “Ten seems like an awful lot,” the Coen brothers said in a joint statement Tuesday. ”We don’t want to take anyone else’s.”
All three were included in the “Best Picture” category, as expected, along with several other awards shoo-ins like The Kids Are All Right and Toy Story 3 (only the third animated film ever in the category). Winter’s Bone was the only surprise in the field of ten, possibly edging out Ben Affleck’s critically-acclaimed The Town or Mark Romanek’s Never Let Me Go, which were both snubbed from the ceremony entirely.

Okay. For most, this is not really that important. For us (for some unknown reason) the Academy Awards, and yes, even the nomination announcements, are marked days in our calendar. Since we gained the capacity to retain memories we’ve watched the Oscars and rooted for our favourite flicks… and by rooted we mean bet on the winners in hopes of walking away both Oscar prediction champion and with a few extra bucks in our pocket. This year the road starts here with the full list of nominees for the 83rd Academy Awards.
Before we get to the list we obviously have to add our two cents… The King’s Speech reigns supreme with the most noms (12 in total) and deservedly so But we think it will have a hard time winning anything except Best Actor for Colin Firth. Some surprises you may notice are no Christopher Nolan/Inception for Best Director,...

The nominations are in. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the nominees for this year's 83rd Academy Awards, (a.k.a. the Oscars), and as usual, the list contains some surprises. As Academy president Tom Sherak and Oscar winning actress Mo'Nique read the names of the nominees in each category from L.A. this morning, a few names were noticeably absent. Director Christopher Nolan was once again overlooked by the Academy, this time for his direction of the film Inception (2010). He did garner a nod for writing and producing the film, but the Best Director nomination continues to elude him. Also absent from the list - Mark Wahlberg for his performance in The Fighter (2010), even though fellow cast mates Christian Bale, Amy Adams and Melissa Leo each received acting props. Wahlberg is a producer on the film, which received a nom in the Best Motion Picture category.

Your full list of 2011 Oscar nominees, complete with my rambly, obvious predictions. Feel free to leave your own reactions / predictions in the comments: Best Picture Black Swan The Fighter Inception The Kids Are Alright The King’s Speech 127 Hours The Social Network Toy Story 3 True Grit Winter’s Bone - Has to be Social Network unless the Academy goes out of its way to push against the Globes, in which case Black Swan has an outside shot. The King’s Speech is too relatively obscure to win the year after Hurt Locker – they’ll probably tend towards a more generally well-known film, plus Social Network double-rewards David Fincher and Aaron Sorkin. Two birds with one awkward stone that we had no idea would be such a juggernaut when we first heard about the idea of the movie and chuckled. Actor in a Leading Role Javier Bardem in “Biutiful” Jeff Bridges...

The nominations are in for this year’s Academy Awards and some of them are surprising. First off there was a lot of expected love for The King’s Speech, The Social Network, and many others that lit up the Golden Globes. I was really surprised with the love the Academy gave to The Coen Brothers this year; I mean True Grit is a good movie, not great and certainly not as good as many of them movies we saw this year. I was really happy to see Michelle Williams get the nod for her performance in Blue Valentine as well as young, Jennifer Lawrence for her performance in Winter’s Bone. I am still amazed how Chris Nolan gets snubbed every year for Best Director, I mean it is almost a crime against humanity that happens with so many great movies he has done. The issue I have is...

In what has to be a shocking development, Christopher Nolan was snubbed in the Best Director category for his brilliant work on Inception. This is the second time that Christopher Nolan has gotten snubbed. I wonder what he has to do to get nominated. Inception still made it into the ten along with 127 Hours, Black Swan, The Fighter, True Grit, Winter’s Bone, Toy Story 3, The King’s Speech, The Kids Are All Right, and True Grit. The highlight for me was seeing the great John Hawkes picking up a nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his brilliant performance in Winter’s Bone. Here is the list of nominations with my analysis coming later on today. The King’s Speech led the way with 12 nominations while True Grit finished in second with 10 nominations.

After seeing so few surprises at the Golden Globes this year, I wasn't expecting to see anything particularly different with this year's Oscar nominees. However, now that the full list of nominations has been announced, there are some pretty cool picks in among the more predictable choices. Some of my favourites include Jesse Eisenberg getting a nod for Best Actor in The Social Network, Hailee Steinfeld for Best Supporting Actress in True Grit, and John Hawkes for Best Supporting Actor for Winter's Bone. Even Exit through the Gift Shop and Gas Land managed to get nominated for Best Documentary. Overall, I'm not seeing many snubs or oversights except for maybe Christopher Nolan for Best Director, Inception for Best Editing, and Ryan Gosling for Best Actor (for Blue Valentine). The King's Speech is out in front with 12 nominations, followed by True Grit with 10. Are you satisfied with this year's Oscar nominees?...

Here they are gang! The nominations for the 83rd Annual Academy Awards! It's pretty much exactly what I expected the nominations to be. The only thing missing from the list that I noticed was that Christopher Nolan didn't get a best director nomination for Inception, even though the movie was nominated for Best Picture. I think he should have replaced David O' Russell's spot for The Fighter. Other than that everything is else was predictable.
