Well that was fast, even for the dizzying world of politics. Hours after it was announced that Barron Trump would serve as one of Florida’s at-large delegates for the Republican National Convention, his mom Melania nixed that plan.
Barron turned 18 this year but it appears that his mom still holds a lot of power in his life. ABC news reported that Barron, Melania and Donald Trump’s only child, was on the list of influential delegates. Until he wasn’t.
According to Forbes, Melania swiftly announced that Barron will not be on the VIP list that includes Pam Bondi, Sergio Gor, Steve Witkoff, and Ike Perlmutter. Here’s what to know about this sudden turnabout.

Barron Trump, 18, the youngest child of former President Donald Trump, has been selected by the Florida Republican Party as an at-large delegate for the state at the Republican National Convention.
According to Florida GOP chair Evan Power, Barron will join three of his other siblings, Donald Trump Jr., Eric Trump and Tiffany Trump, among the 41 at-large delegates from Florida who have been selected.
Steve Witkoff, a luxury real estate developer and a longtime friend of the former president, was also selected as a delegate.
The other delegates include Kimberly Guilfoyle, Trump Jr.’s fiancée; Michael Boulos, Tiffany’s husband; former state Attorney General Pam Bondi, who ran pro-Trump super PACs; and many state-level Republican politicians who took the risk of endorsing Trump over Ron DeSantis.
Barron has mostly stayed out of politics and is graduating from high school next week.

In his year and a half in exile, former President Donald Trump has been sketching out his possible return to power, filling his time with authoritarian revenge fantasies and several ideas for government personnel that sound like they sprang directly from a Fox News control room.

Donald Trump tried to inject a bit of televised, reality TV moments into the second night of the Republican National Convention — but he did so by shattering political norms. A presidential pardon. A naturalization ceremony. A Secretary of State speaking from Israel. Even the spectacle of holding so many convention events from the White House, capped by a Rose Garden speech from First Lady Melania Trump, is something that no other president has done. In many ways, the night was less like The Apprentice and more like MTV’s Cribs, with the White House serving as a taxpayer provided backdrop. It’s likely to trigger a string of ethics complaints and watchdog lawsuits, but did it make for good television? For curiosity’s sake, maybe. Jon Ponder, pardoned by Trump, certainly had a compelling story. But less effective was an East Room naturalization ceremony that went on way too long,...

All eyes will be on First Lady Melania Trump as she headlines Night 2 of the 2020 Republican National Convention.

First Lady Melania Trump will speak to the Republican National Convention on Tuesday from a location perhaps unlike any other previous party gathering: the White House Rose Garden.
It’s anticipated that her speech will tie in with her “Be Best” initiative, but networks likely will compare her remarks to those she delivered in 2016. Back then, her speech triggered a bit of a convention sideshow when it was revealed that portions of the speech were taken from Michelle Obama’s 2008 convention address.
The first lady’s spokeswoman, Stephanie Grisham, told MSNBC on Tuesday that every word of the first lady’s speech on Tuesday night will be from her, and that it will be uplifting and positive.
The speech also will be an unveiling of the newly renovated Rose Garden, and as things tend to go these days, that, too, has been the subject of some controversy. Critics decried the removal of 10 crabapple trees,...

Update, 3:50 Pm Pt: By the second hour in the Senate chamber on Monday, some members started slumping down in their chairs for the long day ahead, as President Donald Trump’s legal team presented their side of the impeachment case. Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-la) stood up and stretched his legs, scribbling notes as he did so, while Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-vt) sat with his hands in an A-frame in front of him.
Then, there was a break around 3 p.m. Et — not just for the Senate, but for some of the broadcast networks. In Washington, D.C., the ABC station went to Hot Bench; the CBS station had on Inside Edition, turning away from the proceedings earlier than they did most of last week. It’s a quiet weekend at the White House. No golf, no public activities, no imminent crisis demanding immediate attention. So that leaves plenty of time to catch up on the Sunday political shows and tweeting for President Donald Trump
Today’s early messaging focused on the fake news and the fake impeachment inquiry, to borrow from the Commander-in-Tweet’s descriptions. It also praised Rep. Elise Stefanik’s canny questioning during the inquiry, Florida attorney general Pam Bondi, and Fox News host Maria Bartiromo. President Trump also generously acknowledged that former VP Joe Biden is not a “rabid dog. He is actually somewhat better than that.”
We’ll update the communications as more roll in. The tweetstorm so far:

Republicans & others must remember, the Ukrainian President and Foreign Minister both said that there was no pressure placed on them whatsoever.

Early on election night 2016, I swiped a hot pink “Women for Trump” poster from the Midtown hotel where the reality TV star was scheduled to accept a magnificent, national-stage humbling. Almost everyone agreed a trouncing was coming, including, reportedly, Kellyanne Conway. The first woman to lead a major-party campaign, Conway reportedly spent Election Day planning for Trump’s inevitable loss, and her own equally inevitable pivot to cable-news punditry.

Former Florida Attorney General (and occasional Fox News guest host) Pam Bondi offered a solution to the epidemic of gun violence in schools — arming teachers.
During an appearance with Fox News host Laura Ingraham on Thursday evening, Bondi advocated for the idea and suggested that educators could function much like air marshals.
“I’ve always supported this since Parkland,” Bondi said, referring to the February 2018 shooting at Stoneman Douglas High School that left 17 dead. “Florida is such a huge state, Laura, and we have so many rural counties and police can’t get there right away. They can’t in so many of our counties,” she told the host.
“I think [teachers] should be treated like air marshals,” she added. “You don’t know who they are, the staff will know who they are and they’re there if they’re needed.”

PBS’s Paula Kerger Celebrates Fred Rogers, Explains Perry Simon Pick As Next Programming Chief – TCA
PBS chief Paula Kerger devoted much of her 25th consecutive TCA at-bat celebrating the renaissance of Fred Rogers calling him a “singular individual” whose “civility and graciousness” which she said “are especially resonant today” without elaborating, because it was not necessary.
She reminded TV critics Morgan Neville’s Won’t You Be My Neighbor? – a box-office barn burner – will air on Independent Lens early next year.
The documentary was in the news last month when Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi attended a screening in Tampa and called police to escort her out because of people shouting “What would Mister Rogers think about your legacy in Florida taking away health insurance from people with existing conditions?” owing to her decision to join in a lawsuit against the Affordable Care Act, and “Shame On You!” over her stance on immigration.

For all the…questionable behavior from One Direction that’s come to pass this week, I find myself cheering for Liam Payne, who took to Twitter to slam Daily Mail columnist Jan Moir for bashing the band.
