This summer’s Television Critics Association Press Tour, which was set to kick off on July 28, will not happen if the WGA strike extends into July, said officials from the organization Tuesday.
“Now that the WGA has gone on strike, there are obvious questions about summer press tour, and we wanted to share everything we know right now. Our position is that if the studios and the guilds do not reach an agreement in a timely manner, the summer tour cannot take place,” TCA’s statement read in part.
TCA president Melanie McFarland, VP Jacqueline Cutler, secretary Andy Dehnart and hotel coordinator Eric Kohanik met with staff at the Langham Huntington hotel in Pasadena and will present more information by the end of the week.

Not everyone was laughing as Jimmy Kimmel stayed committed to his 2022 Emmys bit during Quinta Brunson’s acceptance speech.
As presenters of best writing in a comedy series, Will Arnett dragged a seemingly passed-out Kimmel onto the stage, with Arnett quipping to the crowd that this is the “13th time in a row that he’s lost and he just got into the skinny margaritas back there.” When Brunson took the stage to accept the prize for her ABC series Abbott Elementary, which was her first-ever Emmy, Kimmel remained onstage.
Arnett tried to push Kimmel out of the way to make room for the winner, with Brunson telling him, “Jimmy, wake up. I won.” Kimmel gave her a thumbs-up but continued to lie down on the stage throughout the speech, and it wasn’t until after Brunson was done that Arnett dragged him back off.

With the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks approaching next month, many networks will be airing what will hopefully be respectful and poignant specials of one America’s darkest days. We doubt anyone would consider the one TLC has announced among those.
The Discovery-owned cable network has set a 9/11 special starring “Long Island Medium” Theresa Caputo, in which she will meet with victims’ families “to deliver messages of healing and heroism from the spirits of their loved ones.”
The special, “Long Island Medium: In Memory of 9/11,” will air on Sept. 9 at 10 p.m. and be available on Discovery+ thereafter.
Some of the people for whom Theresa will give readings to include:
The daughter of a flight attendant who let the world know there were terrorists aboard her flightThe sister of the captain of NYC’s Ladder 3, who also lost a second brother to 9/11-related illness years laterThe daughter...

A&e has decided not to run new episodes of “Live Pd” this Friday and Saturday, while Paramount Network has delayed the Season 33 launch of “Cops,” the long-running reality series that was scheduled to return on Monday.
The decision to hold “Live Pd” and “Cops” comes as protests over police brutality continue across the nation following the killing of George Floyd by Minnesota police officers, shining a spotlight on the widespread abuse by law enforcement against African Americans. This weekend A&e will air episodes of “Live Rescue” in its place.
“Out of respect for the families of George Floyd and others who have lost their lives, in consultation with the departments we follow, and in consideration for the safety of all involved, we have made the decision not to broadcast ‘Live Pd’ this weekend,” A&e said in a statement.

Controversy around CBS's new reality series "The Briefcase" has been brewing for awhile (see Andy Dehnart's take here), but now a petition is circulating that charges the show with catering in "altruism porn." The premise? Financially struggling American families are presented with a briefcase containing $101,000 before being given the choice: keep it all for themselves or share the wealth with another family in similarly dire circumstances. How does this strike you? "This show is cruel and exploits the suffering of real families," reads the petition posted to Care2 and authored by a user named Ashley Neumeister. "Consider that CBS' CEO [Les Moonves] makes $54 million a year. If CBS really wants to spotlight the hardships of America's poor, it should donate outright, not exploit their suffering." As of this writing, the petition has garnered 14,199 signatures toward a goal of 15,000 and has been shared 231 times on Facebook. The term "altruism porn," in case you were wondering,...

Rather than selecting returning players unilaterally and listening to fans complain about the latest return for Rupert or a confusing return for a castaway even superfans don't remember, "Survivor" has left the decision somewhat up to America to determine the 20 castaways for Season 31. On Wednesday (May 6) at the end of the latest episode of the less-than-lackluster "Survivor: Worlds Apart," CBS formally announced what had long been rumored across the Interwebs. There are 32 candidates up for the "Second Chance" season. As the word "second" implies, this season will only be open to one-time former players who didn't win, so all of your Hantzes and Ruperts are out. Thank God. Instead, this group of 32 includes contestants going back to original "Survivor: Borneo" runner-up Kelly Wigglesworth. And then there are five candidates from the current season, including two who haven't been eliminated yet, which is either an annoying spoiler or not, but I'm...

"The Amazing Race" giveth and "The Amazing Race" taketh away. Following a season that saw ratings drop on Fridays, "The Amazing Race" got a special Wednesday showcase after the "Survivor: Worlds Apart" premiere and with both long-running favorites instituting format twists this season, CBS was able to spare 90 minutes apiece for the two launches. Longtime readers know that I'm pretty insistent that you need to have at least a 90-minute premiere for "The Amazing Race," because the effort to establish 11 teams of 22 players while also giving the necessary exposure to navigating around international locations and for various challenges is almost impossible in only 60 minutes. I don't think "The Amazing Race" has ever had an entirely satisfying hour-long premiere. And the 90 minutes given to Wednesday's (February 25) "Amazing Race" premiere were enough to help me see some of the merit to the Blind Dating twist that gave us six teams of established couples,...

Reality Blurred's Andy Dehnart looks at changes in MTV's Real World over its 30 seasons, discovering that the twists, gimmicks, and changes started early in the show's life, leading up to season 30's The Real World Skeletons. Monday, MTV announced that it will mark the milestone 30th season of the first modern reality show by calling it "The Real World Skeletons." While those of us who grew up with "The Real World" are ancient compared to MTV's 12- to 24-year-old viewers, that is not a reference to its former fans. Instead, the subtitle refers to the cast members' pasts, which will literally haunt them by moving into the house. With "skeletons" involving bullying, pregnancy, and cast member being surprised by a dad he's never met, it seems like an insane, desperate, and ethically dubious twist. But as crazy as "The Real World: Skeletons" is, it's just another twist in a long...

Today we complete the semifinals of Vulture’s ultimate Reality Rumble, a bracket to determine the greatest season of the greatest reality-tv shows, from The Real World on. Each day, a different writer will be charged with determining the winner of a round of the bracket, until Vulture's Margaret Lyons judges the finals tomorrow: Project Runway vs. the victor of today's battle between the first season of Survivor and the second season of America's Next Top Model, Yoanna edition. Judging this penultimate round: Reality Blurred blogger Andy Dehnart. Looked at in stark terms, Survivor vs. America’s Next Top Model seems like an unfair fight. Survivor debuted on the Tiffany network, sparked the blossoming of the entire reality genre by delivering holy shit moment after holy shit moment in the players' quest for an outsize million-dollar prize, and the novel concept was shot in exotic lands with plenty of eye-popping nature photography.

A German librarian has written a book on how The Simpsons has changed the way gay people are perceived. I’m always mixed about The Simpsons and its heavy usage of stereotypes, but it hasn’t shied away from repeatedly showing gay people as just part of Springfield’s landscape.
A steel mill has to have the most uncomfortably warm dance floor.
On the other hand, GLAAD is angry with Showtime’s Ray Donovan for its pilot where the Hollywood fixer worked for a star spotted picking up a transgender woman. Despite doing great work with gay, lesbian and bisexual characters, Donovan is part of what GLAAD identifies as part of a bad trend of depicting transgender people as subjects of mockery and disgust. I’m surprised to see House of Lies in the condemnations, my initial impression was that it had a potentially strong transgender storyline with the son.

Apparently the Hgtv reality show House Hunters has been outed as a fake, but so what? Haven’t we known all along that reality TV is nothing but a put-on? Andy Dehnart at The Daily Beast thinks it matters: Labeling a television show as “reality TV” represents a contract with the audience that the program has consequence to its real-life cast members. A network is saying to its potential viewers: This show will affect real people, whether they are people who are just like you or are fun for you to mock. Whether cast members are competing for $1 million or just being filmed in their daily lives, their experience in front of cameras has an actual impact on them. ... The bottom line is simple: The people on our screens can be affected, and we can be affected by them. That contract, that promise of consequence and authenticity, is what causes people to tune in,...

How did SallyAnn Salsano create MTV's biggest success ever and a cultural phenomenon? From her own life. "It doesn't get more guido than in my house," she tells Andy Dehnart.

The A-List: New York's Reichen Lehmkuhl

To Full Frontal Or To Not Full Frontal
When I saw the first headline trumpeting news about Justin Long's inadvertent full frontal nude scene in his upcoming movie Going the Distance, I knew how the story would end before I even started it: namely, that particular scene would not end up in the movie. Americans as a whole are still supposedly way too squeamish to actually be confronted with a guy's junk onscreen, especially in a romantic comedy like Going the Distance.
Justin Long
Which doesn't make sense given that Nanette Burstein, Gtd's director, was supposedly so taken with Christina Applegate's shocked reaction to Justin's junk that she filmed the scene that way ten more times before eventually deciding not to use it. Or someone decided she shouldn't use it. Btw, imagine if this were a gay director who did that. Tongues would be wagging even though...

Hey,At Least It Beats The Snowpocalypse!
Hello, all! I'm here in Southern California where it's beautiful and sunny outside! (Hi, Dennis, Ed and Snicks! How goes the Snowpocalypse?) At least I hear it's beautiful outside. I don't know for sure as I'm actually stuck inside the hotel scuttling from ballroom to ballroom like Gollum (and looking about as pasty). But instead of my "precious" being a golden ring, I'm after news about any gay/bi characters and other tidbits you might be interested in.
For instance, can you believe ****** was seen at a party **** with ***** ***** and ***** and they were all ******. I know! Shocking!
Show me the gay character! I want my gay character!
I've been here a week so far and have five more days to serve on my sentence before I'm released back into Brent's protective custody. So what are my thoughts this far? Funny you should ask!
I know! Shocking!
