Among the announcements presented at today’s Star Wars Celebration 2023 is the return of the acclaimed series that follows Rogue One character Cassian Andor. Andor season 2 was being written during the first season’s production and had been shooting since last November. The teaser for the next season of the Disney+ Star Wars series was debuted at the celebration after the announcement by the show’s creator, Tony Gilroy, that the new season is due to hit home screens sometime in August 2024.
Deadline reports that Gilroy has stated, “We started shooting in November. We’re halfway. We will finish shooting in August, a year on post, and we’ll come out in the following August.” Gilroy also talked about how the writers planned the show’s ending with this coming season. Apple TV+ has canceled “The Mosquito Coast” after two seasons, according to media reports.
The decision arrives fresh on the heels of the end of Season 2, the finale of which dropped two weeks ago.
Loosely based on Paul Theroux’s bestselling 1981 novel, “The Mosquito Coast” stars Justin Theroux, Melissa George, Logan Polish and Gabriel Bateman. The story follows Allie Fox (Theroux), an idealist inventor who puts his family in jeopardy in order to escape the U.S. government, cartels and bounty hunters.
A previous movie adaptation of the book starred Harrison Ford, Helen Mirren and River Phoenix. The first two seasons served as prequel material to the Peter Weir-directed film, which came out in 1986.

Apple TV+ has canceled “The Mosquito Coast” after two seasons.
Based on Paul Theroux’s best-selling novel, “The Mosquito Coast” follows the dangerous journey of Allie Fox, a brilliant inventor and stubborn idealist, who uproots his family on a dangerous quest to find refuge from the U.S. government, cartels, and hitmen.
In the latest chapter, viewers found the Fox family barely escaping Mexico with their lives, venturing deep into the Guatemalan jungle to meet up with an old friend and her community of refugees. This new refuge creates trouble for the Foxes though when they become entangled in a conflict between a local drug lord and his family. At odds about whether to settle down or keep moving, Allie and Margot pursue different paths to secure their family’s future. The outcome of which will either unite the family or tear it apart forever. The Season 2 finale aired earlier this month.

The series is loosely based on Paul Theroux’s bestselling 1981 novel, but fans won’t get to see it move into more famous territory from the book and its movie adaptation starring Harrison Ford, Helen Mirren and River Phoenix.

It’s that time of year again. While some directors annually share their favorite films of the year, Steven Soderbergh lists everything he consumed, media-wise. For 2022––another year in which he not only released a new film, but shot another––he still got plenty of watching in.
Along with catching up on 2022’s new releases, he took in plenty of classics, including Sorcerer, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, The Battle of Algiers, All That Jazz, and All About Eve. Quite intriguingly, he also watched cuts of David Fincher’s forthcoming The Killer four times over a week-long span in August. Ahead of a February release, he’s also watched cuts of his forthcoming Magic Mike’s Last Dance five times, the first time being only two months after shooting began.
See the list below via his official site.

This Star Wars: Andor contains spoilers.
Andor is racing toward its big season one finale. With only three episodes to go, Star Wars fans have been hard at work speculating how Cassian will finally escape the labor camp on Narkina 5, and how this experience will lead him to Mon Mothma and the Rebellion. These are questions that still need answering, but we already know a few things about Andor season 2 that points to Cassian joining the Rebellion sooner rather than later.
When we meet Cassian in Rogue One, he’s already a die-hard believer in the Rebel Alliance, willing to do what’s necessary to defeat the Empire, even if it means killing informants to preserve his cover or sacrifice his own life to steal the Death Star plans. But Andor establishes that Cassian wasn’t always Mon Mothma’s number one secret agent. He started out in a very different place.

If you have been enjoying "Andor" like we have, you'll be thrilled to know it won't be long before the production gets up and running again in a galaxy far, far away. Showrunner Tony Gilroy revealed in an interview with Collider that filming will start in only a couple of weeks. He told the website that the cameras will roll on "the Monday before Thanksgiving," and if you've got your calendar nearby, that means production will begin on November 21. Yeah, we weren't kidding with that headline.
While their full interview has not been published as of this writing, Collider gave some insight into what Gilroy will be doing when the season begins filming. The "Andor" creator will oversee the first shot of season 2 in London before leaving and returning to the United States for the Thanksgiving holiday. Even though he won't be sticking around for long, he'll have the likes of Ariel Kleiman,...

Allie Fox (Justin Theroux) and his family seek temporary refuge from their enemies deep in the Guatemalan jungle in the trailer for Season 2 of “The Mosquito Coast,” out Nov. 4.
The Apple TV+ drama picks up after the Foxes – consisting of genius inventor Allie, his wife Margot (Melissa George) and their two children (Logan Polish and Gabriel Bateman) – narrowly escape from Mexico. Their next stop is a community of refugees led by one of Allie’s old friends. Though it seems like a solution, things quickly move into dangerous territory again when they get caught up in a conflict between a local drug lord and his family.
The trailer opens with Allie ensuring his family, “We’ve made it; everything’s gonna be different from now on.” Despite the idyllic scenery and newfound community, Margot isn’t convinced that they’re safe: “You want to make us a home,” she tells her husband.

“The Mosquito Coast” is based on the best-selling 1981 novel by author Paul Theroux, uncle of the show’s star Justin Theroux (“The Leftovers”), who plays Allie Fox, an anti-establishment idealist who uproots his family on a dangerous quest through Mexico to flee the U.S. government. You could be forgiven for thinking that there was some kind of insider trading going on when Justin Theroux was announced to play the lead in The Mosquito Coast, a seven-part Apple TV+ series based on a book written by his uncle: it’s a project, literally, with his name written all over it. But the 49-year-old actor, who has a few years on Harrison Ford from when he starred in Peter Weir’s 1986 adaptation of Paul Theroux’s novel, insists that it came to him just like any other opportunity. “It was really just the normal channels,” he shrugs.
Today, Theroux seems especially nonchalant, taking a Zoom call in his New York kitchen and looking disconcertingly like Super Mario with his black woolly hat and furry Magnum ’stache. “I heard about it, I tracked it, and I asked to read it,” he remembers. “I liked the script a lot,...

Apple TV+’s “Mosquito Coast” series is an adaptation of the acclaimed 1981 novel by star Justin Theroux’s uncle, but Melissa George didn’t read the book to prepare for her part on the show, nor did she watch the film adaptation starring Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren. She did “a weird thing” instead.

George’s character is Margot Fox, the wife of Theroux’s character who, along with their two children, travels with him to Latin America as they flee the U.S. government. Polish plays her daughter, Dina.

“I’ll bet you I can rob a casino,” Allie Fox tells his wife Margot midway through the first season of the Apple TV+ drama The Mosquito Coast. This is a mark both of how desperate their circumstances are and how highly Allie regards his ability to accomplish what others call the impossible. Margot, meanwhile, doesn’t so much as indulge him with an eye-roll, instead moving on to more practical solutions for their latest debacle.

Following his first Emmy win, Justin Theroux is returning to serialized television. Never mind that he won the long overdue trophy as an executive producer on “Live in Front of a Studio Audience: Norman Lear’s ‘All in the Family’ and ‘The Jeffersons'” — the Emmy-winning star of “The Leftovers” (doesn’t that just sound right?) has committed to his next TV series: “Mosquito Coast.”

USA has ordered a pilot for the story of Doom which may become the first entry in a video game anthology series.
Masters of Doom, the book that details the development of one of the most revolutionary PC games ever made, is being turned into a TV pilot with help from executive producers James and Dave Franco.
This story comes from Variety who reports that USA Network has ordered a pilot based on the 2004 novel Masters of Doom: How Two Guys Created an Empire and Transformed Pop Culture. At the moment, it seems that this is a true pilot order, which means it has to pass network approval before it is turned into a full series. The Franco brothers are apparently not involved as writers or directors, but there's no word on whether either of them would appear in the series in some capacity.

It doesn’t get much more meta than a movie adaptation of a memoir about the making of a movie. And not just any movie, but supposedly the Worst Movie Ever Made. In The Room, Tommy Wiseau’s 2003 opus, every line of dialogue is a clunker; every character relationship is nonsensical; every plot point is ridiculous; every sex scene is laughable; and every actor is useless – not least its star and auteur, Wiseau himself.
The Disaster Artist was a 2013 memoir written by Greg Sestero and Tom Bissell, and this adaptation focuses on Greg and his strange friendship with Tommy. Wiseau is played with skill and sensitivity by James Franco (who also directs), while brother Dave plays the shyly ambitious Greg. It’s casting which reaps benefits, providing a...

Ryan Moody, who wrote an early draft of what became “The Disaster Artist,” has filed a lawsuit alleging that he was tricked into selling his script for a mere $5,000. A former student of James Franco’s at UCLA, Moody says he was hired to adapt Greg Sestero and Tom Bissell’s book about the making of “The Room” in 2013 and continued working on the project until March 2014, when Franco told him he wanted to replace him with more established scribes.
“Hey,” Franco wrote in an email dated April 2, 2014 and obtained by Variety. “Seth and evan [Goldberg] and [James] weaver want you on as an assoc producer and to give notes on every draft. Cool? Get going on ‘on the bus,’ that’s yours.”
“On the Bus” was Moody’s passion project, and he claims he was told its production budget would be in the same range as that of “The Disaster Artist.

Over the weekend, a pair of screenplay precursors were announced, bringing us very close to the end of the season. On Saturday night, the USC Scripter awards were handed out, while last night saw the Writers Guild of America hold their ceremony. With only BAFTA still to chime in, among the truly influential precursors, the race is still in flux overall, though with more and more categories starting to come into focus. Post BAFTA, that’ll be the time to really analyze where we are, but for now, WGA and the USC Scripter at least wrapped up Best Adapted Screenplay at the Academy Awards. The Writers Guild opted to continue the steady stream of wins for James Ivory and Call Me By Your Name. The USC Scripter prize went to Ivory as well, so he seems set for Oscar. In the WGA Original category, we saw Jordan Peele take it for Get Out,...
