The Senate has voted to dismiss the primary articles of impeachment leveled against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
Senators voted to dismiss the charges against Mayorkas after just a few hours of contentious procedural discussion on the Senate floor, rebuking GOP efforts to make an immigration scapegoat of the secretary despite their own repeated obstruction of legislation aimed at quelling undocumented immigration at the southern border.
In a historic vote, the Senate voted 51-49 to dismiss the first article against Mayrokas, accusing him of “willful and systemic refusal to comply with the law.

Republicans know their draconic stance on abortion rights is a losing issue with voters, so much so that it looks like they’re exploring a full PR rebrand of their anti-abortion vocabulary. According to a report from NBC News, GOP strategists and lawmakers have found that the term “pro-life” is generally associated with the hard-line restrictions on abortion access they’ve pushed for decades. So they’re brainstorming new terms to help soften the public’s perception of their efforts to criminalize reproductive freedom.
So what new term will Republicans...

The chief of Capitol Police blasted Tucker Carlson’s characterization of the January 6th attack on the Capitol, calling the Fox News host’s conclusions “offensive and misleading.”
In an internal memo, chief Thomas Manger wrote, “The program conveniently cherry-picked from the calmer moments of our 41,000 hours of video. The commentary fails to provide context about the chaos and violence that happened before or during these less tense moments.”
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy provided Carlson and his staff with access to more than 40,000 hours of surveillance footage from January 6. That drew an outcry from Democrats, who claimed that it would jeopardize Capitol security and that Carlson would use it to try to present a revisionist history of what happened that day.
On his show, Carlson used footage of protesters wandering through the halls of the Capitol to try to downplay the attack.

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy last month gave Tucker Carlson exclusive access to tens of thousands of hours of surveillance footage from the Jan. 6 Capitol attack. The Fox News host cherry-picked clips as part of an effort to cast the rioters as “orderly and meek” sightseers, as he put it Monday night. McCarthy and Carlson’s shameless campaign to rewrite history has since been criticized throughout Congress, including by several prominent Republicans.

Sean Penn and Ben Stiller are among 25 Americans permanently banned from entering Russia.
On Monday (5 September), Russia’s Foreign Ministry imposed personal sanctions on a group of Americans in response to US sanctions against Russians stemming from the conflict in Ukraine.
Penn and Stiller have been outspoken critics of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The Milk star is an activist involved in relief work, among other causes. In February, he fled Ukraine while filming a Vice documentary about Russia’s invasion of the country.
After which, Penn revealed that he had considered joining Ukrainian forces to fight against Russia.
Meanwhile, Stiller – who’s a goodwill ambassador for the Un High Commissioner for Refugees – praised Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky, calling him “my hero”, following a visit to the country on World Refugee Day.
US Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo was also on the new sanctions list, as were several American senators:...

When I set out to collect the week’s best in paranormal pop culture news, I knew ahead of time I wanted to give a shout to Netflix’s Dead End: Paranormal Park. I have been waiting to check it out for some time, and it delivered as an emotionally intelligent, fun show for all ages. And I figured there would be other movie and TV news within the realm of the weird. What I did not expect was the real deal stuff that dropped this week. Not only did China release a report about alien civilizations but the whole dang city of Amarillo, Texas went on record with a video still of… something caught on camera.

Lin Qi, founder of the Chinese video game publisher Yoozoo and a producer on Netflix’s upcoming adaptation of “The Three-Body Problem,” has been hospitalized after what Shanghai police characterized as an attempted murder plot by a colleague.
Lin was hospitalized last week with “acute symptoms of illness” believed to have stemmed from an attempted poisoning, according to the South China Morning Post. Shanghai police released a statement on Wednesday saying a 39-year-old man with the surname Xu had been identified as a suspect in a “major crime,” which local reports linked to Lin and Yoozoo.
Multiple Chinese publications identified the suspect as Xu Yao, head of the Yoozoo subsidiary The Three-Body Universe, which holds the rights to the novels being adapted by Netflix. Lin is said to be in stable condition.

It’s been a busy week for President Trump, much of it filled with massive Make America Great Again rallies.
Tonight, he heads out once again, this time back to Nevada in support of Republican Sen. Dean Heller, who is in a pitched battle against Democrat Jacky Rosen, or “Wacky Jacky,” as she’s nicknamed by the president.
The rally is set for Elko, Nevada, and marks the second Nevada rally in two months for Trump, who appeared in Las Vegas in September. The Commander-in-Tweets is clearly in campaign mode, as earlier today he gave shout-outs to a handful of favorite candidates.

Sen. Heidi Heitkamp (D-nd) is currently battling to retain her Senate seat, but it’s not looking good. She’s long trailed her Republican challenger Rep. Kevin Cramer (R-nd) in the polls, and last week, she voted against Brett Kavanaugh knowing full well it could hurt her chances to win in November. On Tuesday, the Supreme Court made it even more difficult for Heitkamp to carry her state next month, which Trump won in 2016 by over 35 percentage points. Though Kavanaugh did not participate in the vote, the nation’s highest...
