The CW Seed has been the ancillary stomping grounds for animated versions of DC Comics’ Arrowverse characters, a chance to extend the brand with lesser-known heroes. For their third outing (after Vixen and Constantine), they smartly offered up Freedom Fighters: The Ray for two six-episode seasons, which have been edited together into a feature, on disc today from Warner Home Entertainment.
Although the two seasons arrived in December and July, they act as a prequel story to last fall’s “Crisis on Earth-x” crossover extravaganza. Here, we have the birth of the Freedom Fighters with appearances by not only the Ray but also Black Condor (Jason Mitchell), Phantom Lady (Dilshad Vadsaria), Dollman (Matthew Mercer) and Red Tornado (Iddo Goldberg). According to some behind the scenes shenanigans, the animated story was written first and when the four-parter was written for live-action, things weren’t lining up right, so the keen viewer...

Probably the most criticized chef in the competition, Jenna, was sent packing Wednesday night on Around the World in 80 Plates after serving a stellar dish. Why? Well, as we all learned, this show is about winning and eliminating your biggest competition. So when it came down to a tie, cutie John voted her out.
We caught up with Jenna to get her take on the elimination and find out if she's still upset with Mr. Manpris.
Ology: So you had the best dish. Why did you go home? Why do you think John voted you out?
Jenna: I think John ended up voting for me because he wanted to win. Ultimately, at the end of the day it’s a competition, and I think everyone was strategizing to vote the best people off, and it really became clear when my time was up that I’m a stronger chef than Liz is,...

Shaw Media is trying to get back in the game after its so-so year, and with several new buzzworthy dramas debuting on Global TV this fall, the network has announced loudly that it is ready to play. Hard.
Global is hoping "Last Resort," the latest offering from executive producer Shawn Ryan ("The Shield"), will perform better than "The Chicago Code" did -- and hopefully Canadian Scott Speedman ("Felicity") will help. But considering how awesome "Tcc" was, yet it was still cancelled, I'm a little worried for the fate of "Last Resort."
Speaking of awesome and "The Shield," Michael Chiklis, along with Dennis Quaid, headline "Vegas," which takes place in the 1960s. The other must-see is "Elementary," a modern take on the adventures of Sherlock Holmes and Watson -- this time played by Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu, respectively -- as they try and solve the NYPD's toughest cases.

Is it too early to campaign for a full-time role for Kevin’s daughter, Catherine? The young girl — who was essentially a young Liz Lemon — might just be my new favorite character. And Lemon could totally use another mentor. I’m pretty confident Cat (Bebe Wood) would teach her a lot. Jack set Lemon up with “Sent from one of my four iPads” Kevin. Jack wanted to give her one final chance to see what she might be missing out on by staying with Criss. But that Jack, he’s always got something up his sleeve. The date was actually...

We’ve got questions, and you’ve (maybe) got answers! With another week of TV gone by, here are some queries we’re going to lob at you, from shows including Nikita, Mad Men, The Good Wife, Once Upon a Time and Cougar Town!
1 | The best part of last week’s Supernatural: The fantastic Castiel flashback montage or Sam in a white shirt for an entire hour?
2 | What did everyone think of the way Nikita (finally!) solved the Cassandra “problem”? Did she get off way too easy? And will anyone (besides Michael) actually miss little Max?
3 | Could it really be...

And they are off! The 19th season of The Amazing Race sent eleven teams of two out on a racearoundtheworld for One! Million! Dollars! I had my vodka chilled and ready to go for my own personal Tar Drinking Game. You do a shot every time someone calls their teammate “babe,” you do a shot every time someone says they can't do a task, and every time someone says they're quitting the Race you do a double shot. When Brent and Caite were Racing a few seasons back I almost died of alcohol poisoning.
Each of the teams has a pre-existing relationship, and the teams this season are:
Ernie & Cindy, engaged
Jeremy & Sandy, dating
Justin & Jennifer, siblings
Ethan & Jenna, dating couple and this season's stunt casting, as both are winners of Survivor
Amani & Marcus, married

The Amazing Race kicked off its brand new season tonight with another 11 teams gathering at the pitstart in Southern California in the hopes of making it through 12 gruelling legs and claiming the $$1 million prize. This season's racers are: former Olympic snowboarders Andy and Tommy, former Survivor winners Ethan and Jenna (who want to keep their winning past a secret but are rumbled by some of the other teams), newly-engaged Ernie and Cindy, father-and-son adventurers Lawrence and Zack, siblings Jennifer and Justin, married grandparents Bill and Cathi, twin sisters Liz and Marie, domestic partners Bill and Ron, dating couple Jeremy and Sandy, married couple Amani and Marcus, and former Showgirls Kahlani and Lisa. The first challenge in question is a word puzzle which involves piecing together six letters displayed on a board with three letters found on one of the (more)...

Last season on The Amazing Race, the wheels started to come off the bus more noticeably. Although the show won its 8th Emmy earlier this month, the Unfinished Business season as a whole was pretty underwhelming, with relatively easy challenges, alliance domination like no other season, and a winner that never rose above the pack during any particular part of the show, minus the finale.
Which is why I'm so disappointed in "Kindness of Stranger", the show's 19th season premiere. It seems that instead of tightening up the proceedings, casting strong, capable teams, and getting back to what made the show so great in the first place, the powers that be decided to go in the opposite direction and made the show that much more maddening.
The challenges during the premiere were a little silly and seemed too easy to be getting the response they got from the teams. I...

"The Amazing Race" premieres, kicking off in Los Angeles with their 11 teams of two. Are you excited for the 19th season?
Thoughts during intros:
It's great to see Ethan Zohn of "Survivor" looking so great after his battle with cancer. Love that there is a pair from Stone Mountain, Ga. Isn't that where Kenneth the Page is from on "30 Rock"?The twins need to dial down on the use of "literally." I'm a big Colts fan, so it's great to see Marcus Pollard on the show.
The First Challenge
The winners of the first leg once again win the Express Pass, which they can use up to the end of the eighth leg to skip any challenge. The first challenge is a tricky word puzzle that will reveal their first location (Taipei, Taiwan). The team that's last receives a Hazard penalty, which they have to complete sometime during the first leg.

The contestants have to find an umbrella with the right letters that spell out their first destination: Taipei, Taiwan. The Olympic snowboarders, Andy and Tommy, solve the clue first. The former NFL player and his wife,...

The Emmy Award-winning race is starting again! This time on The Amazing Race, Olympic snowboarders (Andy and Tommy), Survivor winners (Ethan and Jenna), and sailing record setters (Laurence and Zac) are competing! There's also engaged couple Ernie and Cindy, brother and sister Justin and Jennifer, married grandparents Bill and Cathi, who farm, and Twins (remember that beer commercial?). The twins are named Liz and Marie. The classically good looking dating couple, Jeremy and Sandy, are in the race, along with domestic partners Tom and Bill (go gay couple!), NFL husband and wife Amani and Marcus, and showgirls Kaylani and Lisa filling the token hot team slot.

Last season may have featured familiar faces on The Amazing Race but season 19's contestants bring something else to the competition. But even if these seasoned players are used to competition, they've never had to face the challenges of a race around the world. Last season on The Amazing Race, we watched 11 teams that had previously competed on the show come back for another chance to see the world and win a million dollars in the process. This upcoming season, on the other hand? We won't know every team going in, but it looks like we'll be familiar with more people than one might think, especially following an all-star season.
Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Survivor winners Ethan Zohn (Survivor: Africa) and Jenna Morasca (Survivor: The Amazon) will be one of the 11 teams competing on the 19th season of the Emmy winning reality series. The two, who are currently dating, wouldn't be the first CBS Reality Royal Couple to make the trek around the world, as Boston Rob and Amber competed on seasons 7 and 11 and Big Brother's Jeff and Jordan appeared on season 16.

NBC has become the second broadcast network to announce their plans for the summer of 2011. On the Peacock's agenda are new seasons of America's Got Talent and The Marriage Ref, as well as new reality shows The Voice, It's Worth That? (think The Price is Right meets Pawn Stars), Still Standing (a trivia show), and Love in the Wild (basically The Bachelor meets Survivor). Additionally, NBC will continue to air new episodes of newly revamped Law & Order: La, along with the final seasons of Friday Night Lights and Law & Order: Criminal Intent.
There's no mention of Love Bites, Friends with Benefits, or The Paul Reiser Show, so we can safely say that none of the three will be seeing the light of day anytime soon. You can check the press release below for dates and times of the shows that NBC will be airing this summer.

Yes, it was the year of talkative gay teens and the cat-fighting stars of The A-List: New York. It might not seem like it, but 2010 was the year gay TV grew up. Well, at least part way.
Last year, AfterElton.com asked whether gay TV had matured, and this year that question seems to have been answered. More gay characters than ever graced our screens, and with the rising number of networks making reality shows, sitcoms, and dramas, there was something for everybody from daytime to primetime. In fact, it was so good that the gayest shows on broadcast dominated ratings, and cable series upped their game.
Sure, too many of the new shows with gay characters didn’t survive very long – Mercy, Trauma, and The Whole Truth. But most new shows don’t make it, and at least these characters were something different.

Did you miss these Good Guys? I certainly did, and they’re back to finish out their first season, starting with perhaps their biggest blunder (and our biggest enjoyment) yet. Any show that starts off with The Who’s “Baba O’Riley” is going to be awesome.
Dan is chasing a purse-snatcher through a shopping district when he gets maced by the guy, who then makes off on a scooter. Dan’s brilliant idea is to commandeer the car that nearly hits him. The resulting pursuit sees him mow over an entire block of parking meters before he hits an ice cream truck and totals the car. Jack catches the perp, but the damage is thousands of dollars, and Lieutenant Ruiz suspends both of them for a week. “You had an opportunity to strangle him before he got in the car,” she tells Jack. Dan’s response? Walk into her office door.

To Full Frontal Or To Not Full Frontal
When I saw the first headline trumpeting news about Justin Long's inadvertent full frontal nude scene in his upcoming movie Going the Distance, I knew how the story would end before I even started it: namely, that particular scene would not end up in the movie. Americans as a whole are still supposedly way too squeamish to actually be confronted with a guy's junk onscreen, especially in a romantic comedy like Going the Distance.
Justin Long
Which doesn't make sense given that Nanette Burstein, Gtd's director, was supposedly so taken with Christina Applegate's shocked reaction to Justin's junk that she filmed the scene that way ten more times before eventually deciding not to use it. Or someone decided she shouldn't use it. Btw, imagine if this were a gay director who did that. Tongues would be wagging even though...

For what was the penultimate Thursday of the television season (I think), last night's television highlights were fairly unspectacular. This does not bode well for sending us off into the summer television doldrums.
Community
It wasn't that last night's episode of "Community" was bad (unpossible!), it was just something of a letdown after last week's brilliant, best sitcom episode of the season. But, with the season ending, they had to wind down the school year, which meant fewer movie references and more storyline development. It was bizarre, too, that no mention was made of Jeff and Brita's hook-up. The episode, instead, focused on the Spanish final. Turns out, Señor Chang -- like Jeff -- is also a fraud; he had no teaching degree, and everything he learned about Spanish came from phrases he picked up on Sesame Street ("Word of advice: If an Asian man says he's a Spanish teacher,...

Jesus Christ. Jesus! Christ! Last night's post-apocalyptic paint war game for priority registration episode of "Community" was so fucking bad-ass it's ridiculous. "Psych" has dared pay homage to a lot of genres during its run, but only Dan Harmon would dare to pay homage to last-man standing flicks. It brought in every cliche and trope imaginable, referencing -- among others -- The Book of Eli, Scarface, Boondock Saints, Rambo, The Matrix, "Friends," "Cheers," "Lost," and even "Glee", ending in a beautiful paint-ball Mexican stand-off and monster green-paint explosion. There were more movies and television shows referenced in 22 minutes than all of the Movie Movies. It was brilliantly inspired. Comedy-boner inducing. Nothing on any sitcom in 2010, 2011, or 2012 will top last night's episode of "Community," except maybe next week's episode of "Community." Warranted hyperbole, hyperbole, hyperbole.
Bask in its glory, y'all.
Oh yeah: Jeff and Britta totally boned, too. Repercussions to come.

Survivor: The "Heroes vs. Villains" has been one of the best cycles of "Survivor" in its decade-long history, but it's also been one of the most frustrating. It's clear at this point that, whether we want to or not, we have to acknowledge Russell's superiority over the game. I don't get it. I don't understand why people continue to trust him. I understand that none of this season's players were actually able to see last season (where Russell dominated the game), but you'd think that, by now, a few more alarm bells would go off. And yet, that little rat bastard has been able to manipulate the game to suit his strategy from the beginning (save for Parvati's ownership last week).
It's frustrating because Russell has managed, in his alliance with Parvati, to eliminate some of the best -- and most popular -- players in the game's history,...

Welcome to another week of TV or Not TV and this week I’m all about the Bubble.
I don’t know if you have come across this term yet in the real world but there are such things in network television that have been termed “Bubble” shows. A Bubble show is a show that has ratings that aren’t stellar but don’t flat out justify cancellation. Until we finally learn what the networks ultimately decide on the fate of the show it is on the surface of the Bubble waiting to see if it continues to float safely or see if the Bubble bursts and it’s all over.
I have to admit that before the advent of the Internet I was always just resigned to the fate of a show since there was little I could do about it (Ok, there was one campaign outside of NBC...

Some early favorites are sent packing during the first group round.

As usual, chaos, quarreling and drama ruled on group night on "American Idol." Wednesday's show found the 95 remaining singers shoehorning themselves into unnatural combinations that mostly upped the already tension-filled pressure-cooker atmosphere as battle lines were drawn over choreography, harmony, personality and anything else worth arguing about.
Tears were shed, fingers were pointed, and lyrics were blown time and again, as the groups spent the traditional sleepless night working on their steps and trying to find their groove. Meanwhile, viewers' heartstrings were pulled by big Michael Lynche monitoring his wife's labor on his cell phone and listening as his daughter was born across the continent in New York.
First up was the group named Faith, singing Beyoncé's "Irreplaceable" in near enough harmony to allow Charity Vance, Ashley Rodriguez and Michelle Delamor to advance,...

When Survivor: Samoa began, like many other fans, I had an idea of who'll make an impact and who will be eliminated early on. For some of you who saw my power rankings over the past few weeks, you would've noticed that I always put Natalie on the bottom ranks. Admittedly, I never really held her in high regard.
Come to think of it. At the very beginning she was one of Russell's "dumb blondes", the people who he struck alliances with early on, only to eliminate when the deed is done, like Marisa. When she got eliminated, it felt Russell would kick her out soon, especially after having found more reliable allies in Mick and Jaison. The gender lines being drawn then on Foa Foa wasn't helping, either. Liz was the most vocal of the females, and Natalie was just hanging on to her (or to Russell, although...

Pre-credit sequence. Like so many episodes before it, Thursday's (Nov. 5) "Survivor: Samoa" begins with Foa Foa returning to camp after losing another castaway. It was Liz they got rid of, right? Who can keep track anymore? The only thing they have to stay upbeat about is the possibility that a merge may be coming. There are only four of them, but they're convinced they have unity, while the Galuvians are segregated. Russell is particularly confident, as Russell tends to be. "I'm too good for this game. I'm too sly," Russell says, vowing to continue to plant his seed. 9021-Oh-Not-Again....

With the Foa Foa tribe getting their collective heiny kicked each and every week, the producers of Survivor: Samoa tonight decide to finally stop the bleeding and merge the tribes early (a traditional merge happens with 10 contestants left, as opposed to the 12 that are remaining now). Whether this is a case of producers pressing the panic button or simply shaking things up to keep contestants on their toes is up for debate, but either way, it seems like the right call. Hey, no one loves watching a complete tribal decimation more than I do, but we've read this script before back in Palau,...

Ivy League-schooled lawyer Elizabeth Kim, 33, was the latest female undermined by evil Russell on Survivor: Samoa. Now a New York City urban planner, Liz discussed her downfall, the Foa Foa curse and flip-flopping with People. --Carrie Bell Jeff labeled your exit "another blindside. " Was it? It was a little surprising but it wasn’t entirely a blindside. I remember trying to talk to Mick before tribal and he couldn’t even look me in the eyes. That’s when I knew my number was up. With Jaison performing poorly, I had a little hope of staying, but look at the numbers. We’d already eliminated the most corrosive, annoying and weakest elements in the tribe. Mick and Jaison were a unit. Russell had the idol and had Natalie wrapped around his pinky finger. Odd man out was me. It sucked because I felt like I was powerless to change it.

Two shows were out of the mix again last week, Fringe and Dollhouse, both of which will be absent this coming week as well.
Meanwhile, for the shows that did air first-run episodes this past week, the spotlight was on Thursday, which was a bit disappointing for ratings. Fox's airing of the World Series between the New York Yankees and the Philadelphia Phillies dominated the airwaves, garnering a 10.6/17 share, according to Fast National ratings from The Nielsen Co. By comparison, even the reality juggernaut Survivor couldn't compete with America's favorite pastime, returning a 7.1/11 for its Survivor: Samoa iteration.
Both, however, finished well ahead of FlashForward, which is settling back down a bit. The ABC skein earned a 5.7 rating/9 share, matching the all time low it had back on Oct. 15. That's an eight percent drop from the previous week, and nine-and-a-half percent below its season average so far.

We've seen Survivor: Samoa's Russell Hantz demean and degrade every single woman on his tribe. His latest victim, Liz Kim, thinks she knows why: He's a "male chauvinist pig!" Those are just a few of the strong words the latest Survivor loser uses to describe her former tribemate as she joins Josh Wolk and me on the latest edition of Survivor Talk. How does Liz feel about being called so dumb that she was lucky to be able to walk? Why did she help vote out all the other women, leaving her such an easy target to be eliminated?...

On Survivor Samoa, Foa Foa lost. Again. The preview showing Russell talking with Laura was a fake out: He didn't go to her tribe, she came to his when Galu won reward and Foa Foa lost again. And then again, sending Liz home, finally. Over on Galu, Shambo was elected leader, although she has no idea that she's the men's pawn, which is simultaneously depressing and fantastic (gotta love Erik's line about her being so...

Fair Warning: I haven't been feeling too well for the past few days, so tonight as I sat down to write this I took a Zyrtec. It certainly cleared up my sinus issue but in doing so has made me really drowsy. Major drowsy. So this is my first blog written under the influence of an “over the counter, readily available at any pharmacy” drug. Here goes… Foa Foa Here’s my take on Foa Foa. If they lose again, I believe they will vote out Jaison due to his attitude and lack of motivation, and the three remaining tribe members (Mick,...

“The one who is skillful at keeping the enemy on the move maintains deceitful appearances, according to which the enemy will act…. By holding out baits, he keeps him on the march.” --Sun Tzu, The Art of War The sun’s out in Samoa, and so is the strategy. After six days of going stir-crazy in the rain, the Survivors meet the clear skies with big moves: building alliances, electing chiefs, and settling scores. But ultimately it was the puppet master who made the move of the episode. When Russell decides to boot Liz, he keeps her in the dark by engaging her in a fake plot to vote out Jaison. For keeping Liz distracted while he engineers her demise, Russell wins his fourth Fishy. Lying on Survivor is harder than you’d think. Sure, it’s just a game, and watching at home you can’t believe how attached people get.

Shame on me for not following this season of CBS' popular reality series "Survivor". Fortunately, Re's Chad has been keeping tabs and has informed me which contestant bit the dust on tonight's episode. Turns out, Elizabeth Kim was voted off the island. Russell, possibly the most ruthless villain in the show's history, was hoping to keep her in a couple more weeks and then get rid of her. Looks like things didn't go according to planned. For a guy who claims to be pulling all the strings this season, nothing ever seems to go the way he plans. Yet none of the contestants have managed to see the evil that lurks behind his seemingly angelic face. He's been stirring up trouble since the season's premiere and those who have got on to his diabolical schemes have been voted out. Maybe this guy is running things after all?

Elizabeth Kim gets voted off "Survivor:Samoa" 19 in episode 7. The show started off by showing commentary from the Galu tribe, talking about Russell Swan's abrupt, unfortunate departure from the show, and how it effected them as a team. The guys said they wanted to keep Shannon on their side, and not lose her to the women of the tribe. Next, they showed Foa,Foa commentary . Russell said it's a good thing Elizabeth is still in the game right now. He wants to win a couple more weeks and then get rid of her. Meanwhile, the Galu guys want to make Shannon the new leader so they can keep her on their side. They ended up voting Shannon the new leader. Monica seemed confused after the voting ,and was not sure why Shannon got elected leader.

“Just as water retains no constant shape, so in warfare there are no constant conditions.” --Sun Tzu, The Art of War Survivor sucks in the rain. You’re miserable and cold. Your clothes are drenched. Your wood is too wet to start a fire. And you have no idea when it’ll stop. But bad weather doesn’t just cause discomfort -- it also stops time on strategy. It’s suspicious to take a stroll in a tsunami, and you’re too miserable to move anyway. So in a strategy-lite episode with no big moves, the elements played the deciding factor in Ashley going home. This week’s Fishy goes to the rain. While the weather stopped any smart strategy, it couldn't stop stupidity. This week, I want to talk about the biggest strategic blunder: the way Galu is isolating Shambo. Every season, there are people who nobody likes and nobody talks to.

I adore Ashley. Over the 19 seasons I have been watching Survivor I'm not sure if I have ever seen anyone so excited to compete in the gross food challenge. When Mick read the tree mail Russell Hantz - the big man who bullies other people around - looked very intimidated. Liz was whining. Natalie was making monkey faces. But Ashley's eyes got as wide as saucers and she started jabbering excitedly. To hear her talk you would have thought this was the peanut butter and chocolate eating reward challenge. Despite apparently being a coconutatarian, Ashley made sure to brag that she'll eat anything.

Man oh man. If you have any kind of a heart, you have to be feeling for Foa Foa. It's been a long time since a tribe has performed this poorly. You'd have to go all the way back to Survivor: Palau when Stephanie's tribe was decimated week by week until she was the only person left in her tribe. I have to stand up for all of the Survivors from this season. It was a very difficult shoot. The rain was constant and it took a real toll on everybody, crew included. It's so easy to sit at home...

Is 36-year-old oilman Russell Hantz the best or worst thing about Survivor: Samoa? Depends on whom you ask. He has taken a beating from many fans for being, well, a jerk. That might be due to the fact that he secretly emptied his tribemates' canteens and burned their socks. Or it could be due to the fact that he lied about being a Hurricane Katrina survivor to garner some extra sympathy from his tribe. And then there's his attitude towards women: We've heard lots about his "dumb-ass girl alliance," and seen him intimidate any female that stands in his way.

Betsy Bolan, who struggled with substance abuse before becoming a police officer at the age of 47, was a very relatable contestant. Though she never seemed to find her strategic footing, she brought a nurturing spirit and a well earned wisdom to the show that added warmth to an otherwise gritty cast. But last night Ben accused Betsy of being a bad cop and blew her away with an imaginary pistol. The others joined him in voting her off as a liability even though she never appeared to struggle in the challenges.
When I talked with Betsy earlier today she told me whether her wild youth impacted her decision to become a police officer, whether she was especially disappointed in the women for siding with Ben, how successful Mick and Liz were in hiding their professional success and how hard she found it to keep her frustrating island experience from her family.

For someone who I completely forgot about, was recruited, and hasn't seen the show since Survivor Australia in 2001, Elizabeth Kim really seems to understand Survivor.
