John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein have been to the SXSW Film Festival twice before — for 2013’s “The Incredible Burt Wonderstone,” which they wrote, and 2019’s “Stuber,” which they produced. But when the pair debut the action-comedy “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves” as the opening film of the annual Austin event this Friday, it will be the first time they’ve done so as directors. They couldn’t be more excited.
“It’s the perfect setting for this movie,” Goldstein says, sitting in the Paramount lot office he shares with Daley, for an interview with Variety about the release of their latest movie.
“It feels like the quintessential South By film,” Daley adds. “It’s big and all-encompassing but there’s also something a little bit subversive about it.”
If it wasn’t for a Chicago Cubs game and a lightning-fast superhero, however, it may have never happened.

Michael Shannon is set to reprise his “Man of Steel” role as the villainous General Zod in “The Flash.” But as Shannon tells it, the film’s producers had to explain “the whole multiverse phenomenon, which I was a little behind the times on that.”
In an interview with Looper, Shannon was surprised to receive a phone call from director Andy Muschietti asking him to reprise Zod in “The Flash.”
“I was a little confused.” Shannon said, “As memory serves me, I think I died in ‘Man of Steel.’ Are they sure they got the right guy? The Flash Season 9 Episode 4
The Flash continues to raise the stakes in its final season, revealing the true identity of the villainous Red Death, putting both Barry and Iris in mortal danger, and unleashing a deranged Ryan Wilder from another timeline on Central City after Team Flash thwarts her efforts to build a cosmic treadmill to send herself home.
Played by Batwoman’s Javicia Leslie, who gets to be both cunning and crazy by turns this week as a Batwoman who was raised by the Waynes and developed a dangerous obsession with her enemies’ technology and a bone-deep hatred of her world’s Flash, Red Death may be a speedster, but she’s certainly not like any villain Team Flash has seen before.

February 16 marked the fifth anniversary of Ryan Coogler and Joe Robert Cole’s “Black Panther.” Marvel Studios’ first Black-led superhero flick, starring the late Chadwick Boseman as the king of Wakanda, was seen as a watershed moment for Hollywood representation. With all the chatter about Marvel and DC films prioritizing diversity and inclusivity as a step forward for the caped sub-genre, the success of “Black Panther” was less a step forward and more a return to what was once the status quo generations prior.
Comic book and/or superhero movies fronted by Black actors, like the “Blade” trilogy and “Men in Black” series, once kept comic book features alive, only for Hollywood to declare them essentially whites-only as “Spider-Man” turned the genre into A-level tentpole IP.

DC's onscreen universe is in a strange place. The DC Extended Universe is officially over, soon to be replaced by James Gunn and Peter Safran's DC Universe, which will commence with the arrival of Gunn's "Superman: Legacy" movie in 2025. But before any of that can happen, Warner Bros. has to churn through the last vestiges of the Dceu and Snyderverse, with four movies set to be released in 2023. The biggest of those is arguably "The Flash," which will debut on June 16 and supposedly reset everything with its multiversal adventure (à la The New 52 DC comics relaunch of 2011).
But Ezra Miller's Barry Allen is going to have to wait until after Zachary Levi has had a go at convincing everyone it's worth watching a Dceu relic. "Shazam! Fury Of The Gods" will release on March 17, with Levin once again starring as the leader of the "Shazamily" — that is,...

Don’t know if you’ve heard, but Batman is in The Flash movie. Although the film stars Ezra Miller as the Barry Allen of two worlds, the movie also features not only Ben Affleck’s Batman of the Snyderverse but the return of Michael Keaton as the Dark Knight.
With his appearance in the canceled Batgirl movie all but buried, The Flash will mark the first time Keaton has donned the cape and cowl since 1992’s Batman Returns. But a Batcave shot included in a recent TV spot for the film hints at a longer legacy for Keaton’s Batman, one that we unfortunately didn’t get to see back in the heyday of the Burtonverse.

The man who can run faster than the speed of light sure took his sweet time getting here. The first official trailer for the long-awaited The Flash movie arrived earlier this week, and the wait may have been worth it. The movie in DC’s schedule that has faced the hardest obstacles to overcome in the process of its release delivered a 3-minute insight into what fans can expect to experience this summer. While some audience members might still be on the fence about the film and how it will transition the current DC Elseworlds movies into James Gunn’s master plan for the Dcu, most would agree that the trailer helped alleviate some of those worries to bed.
So, with so much to unravel from the first official footage fans got to see this past Sunday, let’s look at everything we learned (and confirmed) in the trailer.

Michael Keaton is back as Batman! "The Flash" had its big trailer unveiling during the Super Bowl and officially revealed Keaton's Batman, who walks confidently toward the camera before delivering his immortal line: "I'm Batman." The man hasn't suited up since 1992's "Batman Returns" and in the interim, multiple generations of kids have grown up with different actors playing the Dark Knight. Some have never even known the thrill of seeing Keaton's caped crusader emerge from Anton Furst's grimy production design to mete out justice with what Jack Nicholson's Joker called his "wonderful toys." Now, the original blockbuster Batman will descend upon the 21st century when "The Flash" debuts on June 16, 2023. And fans of the Og Dark Knight, myself included, couldn't be more excited.
When Keaton's Batman appears in the "Flash" trailer, he's accompanied by a tasteful interpolation of Danny Elfman's original theme for 1989's "Batman." Once...

Turns out, the fastest man alive does not get the fastest movie. We are finally about to get the first live-action Flash movie, almost a literal decade after it was originally announced. There were countless changes in directors and screenwriters, with everyone from Phil Lord and Chris Miller, to John Francis Daley, Jonathan Goldstein, and Rick Famuyiwa all set to direct before Andy Muschietti finally landed the gig. All that before you even get to the allegations and arrests of Ezra Miller. Really, not even Barry Allen has as many problems as this movie has had.
In the time since "The Flash" was announced, we have seen two different Batman actors, and three different heads of DC, yet the first footage of the movie is finally here to prove that not only is this movie real; it's finally coming out ... unless we get another "Batgirl".
Even more surprising is that...

Los Angeles, Feb 13 (Ians) Warner Bros. has released another look at ‘The Flash’, dropping new footage of the DC Comics film, ahead of the Super Bowl, which concluded on Sunday evening, reports ‘Variety’.

The Flash movie…ah, what else is there to say after all this time? First announced before Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was even released, a movie that became a hot potato of scripts and directors even before Ezra Miller became a media sensation for all the wrong reasons. A flick that boasts the impressive Andy Muschietti in the director’s chair with a script by Christina Hodson. A film that just released its first trailer mere weeks after Warner Bros. announced the new Dcu plan from DC Studios, a plan which was studiously and diplomatically ambiguous about the status of Miller’s version of Barry Allen after this movie drops in June.
All we know is that at the press event where DC Studio heads James Gunn and Peter Safran announced that Dcu slate, they said that The Flash “resets everything.” Gunn also praised this film as “one...

The Flash might be the fastest man alive, but it feels like his movie has been traveling in slow motion ever since it was first announced back in ... October 2014?!
Yes, Barry Allen's first solo adventure has taken almost a decade to make his way to theaters -- even longer, if you count previous attempts to make a movie about the Flash. Turbulent times in the DC Extended Universe and a global pandemic kept "The Flash" locked away in development hell for years, and when star Ezra Miller began making headlines for all the wrong reasons, many wondered if the movie would be released at all.
Now, we're just a few months away from "The Flash" landing in theaters, about five years after it was originally slated for release. That's kind of fitting, since there was a running gag in the comics about how Barry Allen was chronically late to everything.

Check out the stellar new trailer for The Flash.
Directed by Andy Muschietti, Ezra Miller reprises their role as Barry Allen in the DC Super Hero’s first-ever standalone feature film.
Worlds collide in “The Flash” when Barry uses his superpowers to travel back in time in order to change the events of the past. But when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, Barry becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod has returned, threatening annihilation, and there are no Super Heroes to turn to. That is, unless Barry can coax a very different Batman out of retirement and rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian… albeit not the one he’s looking for. Ultimately, to save the world that he is in and return to the future that he knows, Barry’s only hope is to race for his life. But will making the ultimate sacrifice be enough to reset the universe?...

If a superhero is lucky, they'll get one definitive theme song. For Superman, it's John Williams' theme from the 1978 movie. For Spider-Man, it's the catchy theme song from the 1967 cartoon, composed by Paul Francis Webster and Bob Harris.
With Batman, though, the question is more difficult. The Dark Knight has an abundance of amazing themes, all of which fit different aspects of his character. The 1966 "Batman" theme is perfect for the bright, mile-a-minute mood of Adam West's Caped Crusader. Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard's theme for the "Dark Knight" Trilogy, "Molossus," is operatic, fitting for the seriousness of those films. Michael Giacchino's theme from "The Batman" is slow and foreboding, perfect for a Batman who's a creature of the night hunting criminals.
Despite the strong competition, the winner has to be Danny Elfman's theme from Tim Burton's 1989 "Batman." The composition opens with horns that...

The new trailer, which you can watch above, puts the spotlight on the High Evolutionary (Chukwudi Iwuji), the unethical scientist responsible for turning an innocent raccoon into the gun-wielding Rocket through painful surgery and genetic manipulation. We even see Rocket get marked with the experiment tag “89P13.”
“He didn’t want to make things perfect,” bemoans Rocket. “He just hated things the way they are.”
Writer-director James Gunn, who is bringing his time with Marvel to an end as he prepares to launch a rebooted DC Universe, has said that “Vol. 3” will mark the end of the Guardians of the Galaxy in its current iteration. Dave Bautista has also said that this will be his last film as Drax the Destroyer.

In the new trailer for The Flash, Ezra Miler’s titular character attempts to travel back in time to prevent his mother’s murder. Instead, he ends up wreaking havoc on the timeline — reintroducing Michael Keaton’s version of Batman in the process.
The “Flashpoint” storyline adaptation sees Miller’s Barry Allen use his powers to save Nora Allen (played by Maribel Verdú), leading to a ripple effect across the timeline. In an attempt to set things right, he’s forced to recruit superheroes from disparate realities. There’s an alternate version of Flash (played by Miller themself), the aforementioned return of Keaton as the ’90s version of Batman, and the debut of Sasha Calle as Batgirl.
Together with Ben Affleck’s Batman, they must face Michael Shannon’s General Zod, who returns from 2013’s Man of Steel.
The Flash is directed by Andy Muschietti from a screenplay penned by Christina Hodson.

The Flash trailer arrived during the Super Bowl, marking the launch of Warner Bros.’ campaign for the the superhero movie starring controversial actor Ezra Miller.
Miller stars as Barry Allen/The Flash in the film, which has been testing well with audiences and which DC Studios co-chair has called “probably one of the greatest superhero movies ever made.” But the project has lived under the shadow of Miller, who has generated a string of headlines surrounding various arrests and controversies. Miller apologized Aug. 15, 2022 and in a statement said they were seeking help for mental health issues. Later that month, he met with new Warner Bros. film bosses Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy to discuss charting a path forward for the project, which had already completed filming. In January, DC Studios co-chair Peter Safran told reporters of the possibility of the actor reprising the role in the future: “Ezra is completely committed to their recovery.

Nine years. Four sets of directors. Four scripts. Several shifting release dates. This has been the journey of "The Flash," the first silver-screen solo outing for the iconic DC superhero. While a "Flash" movie of some kind was talked about as early as 2004, it will be Andy Muschietti's attempt that's slated to mark the end of the DC Extended Universe, having been in some state of development since 2014. Even if the "It" director only signed on in 2019, this one particular DC project has gone through many phases and setbacks. That's why it feels like a miracle that we saw its first real look in a trailer released during Super Bowl Lvii.
The new "Flash" trailer gives us a more in-depth look at the plot established in its first teaser – something has gone awry with the multiverse, likely because of the actions of Barry Allen (Ezra Miller), and it's up...

Warner Bros. has released another look at “The Flash,” dropping new footage of the DC Comics film ahead of the Super Bowl.
After first appearing in a cameo role way back in 2016’s “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” Miller is suited up as the Scarlet Speedster once again — this time for their own solo movie. The new trailer shows Miller’s Barry Allen crashing into the multiverse and running into another version of himself and not one, but two, Batmen — played by Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton. There’s also a return of Michael Shannon’s General Zod from “Man of Steel” and the debut of Sasha Calle’s Supergirl.
The cast also includes Kiersey Clemons as Iris West, Saoirse-Monica Jackson, Antje Traue and Maribel Verdú.
