Johnny Knoxville will readily admit that, while he had a great time working on Hulu’s Reboot, his first experience as a series regular did not end the way he was expecting.
In an interview published Thursday, Knoxville spoke to Vulture about the comedy from series creator Steven Levitan that was canceled last month after its eight-episode first season premiered in September. Focusing on the cast of an early 2000s sitcom reuniting for a revival, the ensemble show also starred Keegan-Michael Key, Rachel Bloom, Calum Worthy, Krista Marie Yu, Judy Greer and Paul Reiser.
“Of course I would’ve liked it to end differently, but I realize I’m a very lucky human being. We made a great show, and it’ll be there for people to watch forever. That’s a pretty great thing,” Knoxville said. “Hopefully I’m not coming off as angry or sad. I’m so...

The satirical showbiz sitcom “Reboot” will not return for a second season, the show’s creator Steve Levitan said on Twitter Monday night. It’s apparent confirmation that the search for a new home following the show’s cancellation on Hulu has failed.
Hulu declined to renew the show late last month, and at the time Levitan was hopeful of finding a new home for his show on another network or streamer. In his statement Monday, posted on his Twitter account, Levitan also took a subtle dig against Hulu and how the streamer treated the show.

It’s final – there will be no second season for Hollywood-centric comedy Reboot, created and executive produced by Modern Family co-creator Steve Levitan.
Following the recent cancellation of the series by Hulu, Levitan and producing studio 20th Television tried to find another home. There are finished scripts, produced by a writers room that had worked on a potential second season, which were sent to potential buyers. Those efforts have now been exhausted, and Reboot if officially over. Levitan alluded to that in a Twitter post Monday.

"Reboot," Steve Levitan's snarky meta sitcom about a TV series that gets rebooted two decades after its abrupt cancellation, has been canceled. While I'd like to believe that this is all an elaborate scheme to announce a reboot of "Reboot" and make life imitate art, this isn't a bit. Hulu has officially pulled the plug on the short-lived comedy.
During its eight-episode first season, "Reboot" told the story of "Step Right Up," an early 2000s family sitcom being rebooted by Hulu for a new generation. That clever conceit paved the way for plenty of jokes poking fun at the industry through a disgruntled writers' room, an ongoing war with the Hulu executives, and the general insanity of actors navigating the press cycle, Hollywood expectations, and the changing nature of comedy. Plus, it was all wrapped up with the comfortable bow of a workplace comedy. The series starred Keegan-Michael Key,...

News of Reboot‘s cancellation at Hulu was met with obvious frustration from co-star Johnny Knoxville, who called the axing “pretty unbelievable” in a social media post on Monday.
“It’s with a heavy heart that I say that despite getting great reviews and being nominated for a critics choice award @hulu has failed to pick up Reboot even for a second season. Pretty unbelievable,” Knoxville wrote in an Instagram caption. “Working on this show has been one of the great highlights of my life, and I wanted to thank @stevelevitan and the entire stellar cast for allowing me to be part of this show.

It’s like a bloodbath with all the shows announced to have given the axe by their respective networks. First, HBO would shock fans last year by canceling Westworld among the list of slashed shows by HBO Max. Netflix has been canceling a number of shows, and Showtime has now announced discontinuing series due to streaming rebranding. IndieWire has now reported that Hulu has canceled its latest original comedy, Reboot, after one season.
Reboot came from Modern Family creator, Steve Levitan. It was a satire of a once beloved sitcom, called Step Right Up, looking to reboot its show with the original cast returning. The show featured the talents of Keegan-Michael Key, Judy Greer, Paul Reiser, Johnny Knoxville, and Rachel Bloom. Sources are telling IndieWire that Levitan is currently shopping the show to other outlets in an attempt to give it a new home so that it may continue.

Some of that stuff was based on things I had seen or experienced, and I feel really good about that ending. ” As to the future of the show, he told us, “I do have some notions going forward, but that’s about it for now.” When the show first debuted last fall,...

The cast of “Step Right Up” should plan to step right up to some new projects. On Monday, Hulu canceled “Reboot,” the meta-satirical series about a sitcom reboot, after just one season.
Sources tell IndieWire that “Reboot” creator Steven Levitan, best known for co-creating “Modern Family” with Christopher Lloyd, is currently shopping the show to other outlets with hopes of finding it a new home.

Hulu has opted not to renew the showbiz sitcom “Reboot” for a second season, the streamer said Monday.
A source close to the production told TheWrap that creator Steven Levitan, a multiple Emmy winner for ABC hit “Modern Family,” is trying to find a new home for the comedy.
The series starred Rachel Bloom as a TV executive who successfully pitches the revival of her favorite 20-year-old sitcom, “Step Right Up,” and the clashes that follow between the cast, crew and writers. It premiered on Sept. 20 to favorable reviews, with Rotten Tomatoes scoring it 88 from 40 critics entries, including from TheWrap’s Thelma Adams, who called it “hilarious” and “consistently laugh-out-loud funny.”
The ensemble included Judy Greer, Keegan-Michael Key, Johnny Knoxville and Calum Worthy as the original “Step Right Up” cast, Paul Reiser as the series’ creator, and Krista Marie Yu as Hulu’s VP of comedy who’s “new to humor.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Reboot, Season 1, Episode 8, “Who’s the Boss.”] Hulu‘s meta-comedy Reboot left viewers on quite a few hooks as its first season came to a close with the installment, “Who’s the Boss.” Following the production of a sitcom reboot for a fictional show titled Step Right Up, the series chronicles the behind-the-scenes drama of its stars as they work together to bring a more modern version to Hulu subscribers. While the season finale implemented new romantic dynamics as well as hurdles for some of the stars, Step Right Up‘s creatives hit a wall of their own in an unexpected twist. Reboot ceator Steven Levitan (Modern Family) helped situate his all-star cast — Keegan-Michael Key, Judy Greer, Johnny Knoxville, Paul Reiser, Rachel Bloom, Calum Worthy, and Krista Marie Yu — with strong Season 2 possibilities, should the series be renewed. This article contains spoilers for Reboot through episode 4.
What makes the classic multi-camera sitcom format so nostalgic for TV fans? Is it that the people depicted onscreen behave in a way we wish we did and experience lives we wish we had? Or is it because episodes are only about 22 minutes without commercials, and therefore don’t require a lot of thinking after a long day?
From Gilligan’s Island to Seinfeld, the classic sitcom has always found a way into our lives in some form or fashion. We all have our own personal favorites. I remember turning on Nick at Night daily at around 10 p.m. when I was in middle school and high school, eager for the calming, yet chaotic voice of George Lopez on his self-titled sitcom. For others, their favorite comedy might be Full House, a show every child since the 1980s has seemingly been forced to watch in some capacity.

A number of things about Hulu's latest sitcom "Reboot" are extremely meta. The series was created by Steven Levitan, who has worked on some of the most popular sitcoms in history such as "Wings," "Frasier," and "Modern Family," and it lovingly calls back to the corniest family sitcoms of the late 1990s and early 2000s. And like many of the revivals of these shows, this series also looks to the past to deliver heartfelt messages to a modern audience in a way that honors the history of the medium. But this show starring Keegan-Michael Key, Johnny Knoxville, Judy Greer, Rachel Bloom, Calum Worthy, and Paul Reiser pays homage to the ones that came before it in more ways than just the impeccable writing.
Thanks to a new interview, we learned that a major part of the fictional sitcom from the new Hulu Original was actually repurposed from a real life sitcom.

Johnny Knoxville Is Still Doing His Own Stunts On Reboot, Including Getting Hit By A Car [Exclusive]
If you thought that serious-looking collision with a bull from "Jackass Forever" was enough to send Johnny Knoxville out of commission from stunt work, you'd be wrong. You should know by now that a little hospital trip wouldn't keep this man down for long! Sure, while an official "Jackass" revival might not be in the works, he's still up to his old tricks on Hulu's newest comedy series, "Reboot."

Calum Worthy and Krista Marie Yu have plenty of TV experience between them. Worthy rose to fame by starring in Disney Channel shows like "Austin & Ally" before graduating to more mature subject matter in "American Vandal" and "The Act." Meanwhile, Yu appeared regularly on more recent sitcoms like "Dr. Ken" with Ken Jeong and "Last Man Standing" with Tim Allen. That made starring in Hulu's new meta sitcom comedy "Reboot" a bit surreal and therapeutic.
"Reboot," from "Modern Family" creator Steven Levitan, follows the creation of a revival of the fictional early 2000s sitcom "Step Right Up," a riff on shows like "Full House" and "Step by Step." In the series, Worthy plays Zack, the formerly cute child star of the original sitcom that's being rebooted with the same cast, which includes Keegan-Michael Key, Judy Greer, and Johnny Knoxville as his co-stars. In the series, Worthy plays Zack, the formerly cute child star of the original sitcom that's being rebooted with the same cast, which includes Keegan-Michael Key, Judy Greer, and Johnny Knoxville as his co-stars. Love was in the air Monday night on the Fox lot.
The studio hosted the premiere of Hulu’s new sitcom Reboot from creator Steven Levitan and one could say that the affection started at the top and trickled down.
“I’d say it’s a love letter, and maybe also a friendly roast,” offered Levitan on the red carpet prior to the screening, describing the tenor of his new show that follows the adventures of a dysfunctional cast from an early 2000s hit sitcom called Step Right Up after a show runner pitches a reboot of their show to Hulu.
What it’s definitely not is a mean-spirited takedown of Hollywood, hence all the good vibes in and around the Daryl F. Zanuck Theater and all the glowing executives. “I’ve had a wonderful career,” continued Levitan, who has armfuls of Emmys...

It stands to reason that “Reboot” is immediately an entertainment biz turducken of industry lingo and in-jokes. From “Modern Family” creator Steven Levitan, the new Hulu series depicts the reboot — also airing on Hulu — of a family sitcom and all the behind-the-scenes drama that inevitably follows. Levitan, whose credits include “Just Shoot Me” and “Wings,” obviously knows his way around a multi-cam, and his pilot co-writer John Enbom made a meal in “Party Down” of exploiting the seediest corners of Hollywood ambition. The combination of the two sensibilities makes for a (mostly) realistic peek into life on a studio lot, but that’s probably a given. That it ends up (mostly) toothless comes as a genuine surprise.

A few minutes into Reboot, a self-important actor (Keegan-Michael Key) gets his hands on a script for a buzzy new comedy. “It is both the funniest thing you’ve ever read, and you won’t laugh once,” he gushes to his skeptical girlfriend. It’s a ridiculous line on its face, but it’s not an entirely unfair description of a certain type of acclaimed TV comedy: dark, unconventional and prestige-y, with jokes meant to bruise more than tickle.
Reboot is not that show. Reboot is a show that is going for actual, out-loud laughs and very often gets them — thanks to clever writing, a crackerjack cast and a cheerful willingness to go for the broad humor of, say, an avalanche of popcorn (albeit with a knowing wink). If it’s neither as cutting nor as heartwarming as it could be, that is,...

The combined forces of Jordan Peele and Keegan-Michael Key have made them one of comedy's greatest duos, with their series "Key and Peele" remaining one of the premier sketch comedy shows in recent memory. The show went off the air in 2015 after five seasons, but managed to snag the Primetime Emmy award for Outstanding Variety Sketch Series on its way out.

Do you have a disdain for reboots of old sitcoms? Do you love it when a dated comedy series is retooled to be appropriate for modern audiences? Well, in either case, I suppose there is an upcoming show made just for you.
Hailing from Hulu, "Reboot" follows a dysfunctional cast that must deal with the fact that their early 2000s family sitcom "Step Right Up" is being rebooted for a new generation. Keegan-Michael Key headlines the series alongside Judy Greer, playing a former couple that reluctantly reunites to bring their old show back on the air (streaming in this case). And in a suitably meta twist, the fictional sitcom in question is being spearheaded by Hulu.

As if “Gordy’s Home” wasn’t a big enough reason to say “Nope” to a sitcom reboot, Hulu takes the meta-concept in a whole new direction.
The latest series from iconic Emmy-winning sitcom creator Steven Levitan, the co-creator behind “Modern Family,” is Hulu’s “Reboot.” It stars Keegan-Michael Key, Judy Greer, and Johnny Knoxville as part of a dysfunctional cast made famous by the fictional early 2000s family sitcom “Step Right Up.” Now, almost 20 years later, the cast is coming back together again to revive the original hit series, plus squash their unresolved issues and navigate social media cancel culture.
Paul Reiser, Rachel Bloom, Calum Worthy, Fred Melamed, and Krista Marie Yu also star in the series, streaming September 20 with its first three episodes followed by weekly installments. And yes, the show-within-the-show “Step Right Up” is being rebooted for Hulu, in case there needed to be another meta layer in the mix.

While everyone likes a good sitcom, there’s a whole different story behind the scenes, and Hulu‘s shining a light on such scenarios with its latest comedy Reboot. Hailing from Modern Family co-creator Steven Levitan, Reboot is set to premiere Tuesday, September 20 with three full episodes followed by new installments each week. The series involves the dysfunctional cast of an early 2000s family sitcom, Step Right Up, who get back together after 20 years when the show gets revived. In the trailer for Steven Levitan’s “Reboot,” which Hulu released Tuesday, Judy Greer and Keegan-Michael Key’s characters have an extremely awkward off-set reunion in Hulu’s comedy about a revived sitcom.
The duo, who were an item 20 years ago on the series-within-a-series “Step Right Up,” aren’t the only ones from the “Full House”-style sitcom having issues. Former child star Zack (Calum Worthy) still brings his mother to set and the show’s new writers gasp when out-of-touch series creator (Paul Reiser) asks, “Is this one of those intern diversity training things?” upon seeing two women of color in the room.
Greer plays Bree, who was reduced to playing an alien character in a cable sci-fi show; Key is Reed, whose “vulnerable” approach to playing a gangster didn’t help his film career; and Johnny Knoxville is Clay, who is coming off arrests for being drunk and disorderly.

There’s nothing unusual about Hollywood recycling old sitcoms – and even dramas – for new audiences. But Hulu’s new Reboot comedy series takes it a step further, creating a series about the behind-the-scenes shenanigans surrounding the reunion of a fictional sitcom cast for a reboot.
Steve Levitan created the series and serves as writer, executive producer, and showrunner. “After working thirty years in TV comedy, this is both my love letter to sitcoms and, if I’m being honest, much-needed therapy,” said Levitan, describing his new comedy.

Hulu has unveiled the trailer for Reboot, a new comedy from Steve Levitan (Modern Family) that follows TV executives as they reboot an old comedy from the aughts called Step Right Up.
The single-camera laugher stars Keegan-Michael Key, Johnny Knoxville, Judy Greer, Rachel Bloom, Calum Worthy and Krista Marie Yu. The cast of the original sitcom is forced to come back together and “deal with their unresolved issues in today’s fast-changing world,” according to Hulu.
The comedy premieres Sept. 20.
In the trailer, Paul Reiser plays Gordon, the creator of the old sitcom who is now having to face new Hollywood norms like inclusivity in the writer’s room. When he sees the diverse staff for the reboot, he asks, “this one of those diversity intern training things?”
At TCA earlier this month, Reiser told reporters that “it’s really fun representing the old school. My character is walking into this cold.

Paul Reiser has joined the cast of the upcoming Hulu comedy series “Reboot” from Steven Levitan.
Reiser is taking over the role of Gordon in the series from Michael McKean. He joins previously announced cast members Judy Greer, Keegan-Michael Key, Johnny Knoxville, Rachel Bloom, Calum Worthy, and Krista Marie Yu. This is now the second recasting on the series, with Greer taking over the role played by Leslie Bibb in the pilot.

Hulu has picked up the comedy series “Reboot” from creator Steve Levitan, Variety has learned.
The show was originally ordered to pilot at Hulu back in August. Keegan-Michael Key and Johnny Knoxville lead the cast along with Judy Greer, who joins in the role played in the pilot by Leslie Bibb.

Now they must deal with their unresolved issues in today’s fast-changing world.
“Steve’s incredible track record speaks for itself. ‘Modern Family’ was brilliant and massively appealing, making millions upon millions of viewers laugh week-after-week and quickly becoming a global sensation,...
