Get ready for a whacky and flashy ride with a bumbling Dick Turpin. Created by Claire Downes, Ian Jarvis, and Stuart Lane, The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin is a British historical comedy series that takes its inspiration from a real-life highwayman of the same name in the 18th century. The Apple TV+ series follows the story of Dick Turpin, who leaves everything behind to become the leader of a group of goofy highwaymen accidentally.
The comedy series isn’t a grounded story in any way, as it takes many leaps into the immensely absurd. So, if you are ready for this completely made-up adventure, then here is a map for the upcoming adventures.

Just to be clear, Apple TV+’s The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin is not a spinoff of Max’s Our Flag Means Death. The two shows do not share the same creative team, nor the same characters. No one involved with either has ever suggested they might in any way be related.
Nevertheless, a viewer might be forgiven for presuming that they could be. Both are cheerfully anachronistic comedies about 18th century Englishmen fleeing conventional society to turn outlaw. Both heroes raise eyebrows in their new milieu for their naivete, their sartorial flair and their distaste for violence. Both nevertheless win the loyalty of a quirky crew who find they quite like this softer version of their bloodthirsty trade.
But if Dick Turpin borrows much from Our Flag Means Death‘s vibe, it shares much less of its earnest substance. This one is silliness all the way down,...

"'Historically accurate' is subjective." Apple TV has unveiled a funny promo featurette for the wacky British comedy series The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin, launching streaming to watch on March 1st (this weekend!!). Noel Fielding stars Dick Turpin, the most dangerous highway robber of the 18th century. It's based on a true story. Sort of. This comedy series is a fictional take on the life of highway robber Dick Turpin – originally Richard Turpin, an English highwayman whose exploits were romanticised following his execution in York for horse theft. By the early 1730s, he had joined a gang of deer thieves and, later, became a poacher, burglar, horse thief and killer. This is his story. Though it's all made up, at least most of it is, and some of it isn't. Co-starring alongside Fielding in the ensemble cast: Ellie White, Marc Wootton, Duayne Boachie, Hugh Bonneville, Tamsin Greig, Asim Chaudhry,...

Coming up on March 1st from AppleTV+ is yet another joyful and whimsical British comedy ‘The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin.’ Led by Mr Great British Back-off host Noel Fielding in the titular role and propped up by some of the biggest and best names in British comedy.
The six-episode Apple Original centres on Dick Turpin (Fielding), who sets out on a journey of wildly absurd escapades when he’s made the reluctant leader of a band of outlaws — and tasked with outwitting corrupt lawman and self-appointed thief-taker Jonathan Wilde (Hugh Bonneville).
In this irreverent retelling set in the 18th century, Turpin is the most famous but least likely of highway robbers, whose success is defined mostly by his charm, showmanship and great hair. Together with his gang of lovable rogues, Turpin rides the highs and lows of his new endeavours, including a brush with celebrity, all whilst trying...

Noel Fielding headlines Apple TV+ comedy The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin, here’s the trailer.
Noel Fielding, along with comedy partner Julian Barratt, blasted onto the UK comedy scene with double act The Mighty Boosh, which found success at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival before making three series of what might be the most surreal, esoteric comedy ever broadcast on British television. All episodes were directed by Paul King, who went on to achieve national treasure status alongside Simon Farnaby for co-writing and directing the Paddington films and the recently released Wonka.
Having a steady career in British sitcoms ever since, appearing in the likes of Snuff Box, The It Crowd and headlining his own series Noel Fielding’s Luxury Comedy, he now leads the cast of Apple TV+ comedy The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin.
The synopsis reads as follows:

Candy is dandy, but liquor is quicker. After the Thursday preview box office totals arrived, it appears Warner Bros. Pictures‘ wallet is getting thicker! Wonka is off to a sweet start with $3.5M in previews from 3,500 locations. The candy-coated musical starring Timothée Chalamet expands to 4,203 theaters this weekend, with an estimated opening of $30M-$40M.
Wonka is one of three movies from Warners hitting theaters during the holiday season, with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom and The Color Purple occupying screens in the lead-up to Santa’s big night. Aquaman 2 could breach the box office with $45M-$50M during its four-day debut, with The Color Purple bowing on Christmas Day with $8 million. Marketing for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom has been odd, considering the James Wan sequel is DC’s final film before James Gunn and Peter Safran reboot the Dcu in 2025 with Superman: Legacy.

The first reactions to Paul King’s Wonka, the prequel to Roald Dahl’s beloved Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, are in, with much praise for the film’s star Timothée Chalamet as the enigmatic Willy Wonka.
The origin film follows Chalamet’s Willy Wonka from his beginnings selling candy in a small shop to his rise as an eccentric genius chocolatier and the creation of his fantastical chocolate factory.
“#Wonka/ #WonkaMovie is a winning confection, filled with perfect amounts of charm, whimsy & poignancy, powered by pure imagination & bright, nimble musical numbers,” wrote Courtney Howard. “Timothée Chalamet is a charisma factory. His full committal is intoxicating. Hugh Grant in exceptional Idgaf mode.”
Gizmodo senior reporter Germain Lussier wrote that Chalamet “alone is reason to see the film,” adding “He’s infinitely charming and a blast to watch.” However, he wrote, “The movie around him isn’t as good but it’s enjoyable.

Paul King, director of Wonka, is teasing the film and Timothée Chalamet’s singing voice. The filmmaker compared Chalamet to Bing Crosby.
“[Chalamet]’s got a beautiful singing voice,” King said in an interview with Total Film magazine. “The person it reminded me of was Bing Crosby. There’s quite a range, because it does go from a couple of bigger, showstopper-y sort of things, to moments of real, pure emotion and he can do it all… I’m going to sound like a crazed fan.”
Although the film has musical numbers, King doesn’t want to classify the movie as a musical saying, “The Oompa Loompas sing a lot in the book, and Dahl always uses poetry. But I didn’t want it to just become a musical where people are singing dialogue to each other for no discernible reason. I felt like it was more like a movie with songs than a musical.

BBC Comedy Director Jon Petrie has said his team would be “happy to talk” with John Cleese about the upcoming Fawlty Towers revival, as he unveiled the next generation of “very British” shows.
Cleese has already said that the surprise revival, which he is making with daughter Camilla Cleese and Rob Reiner’s Castle Rock Entertainment, will not appear on the BBC because the UK broadcaster would not give him sufficient editorial freedom.
But addressing a BBC Comedy Showcase Tuesday, Petrie described BBC original Fawlty Towers as a “legendary show” and said he would be open to discussions.
“We found out about [the Fawlty Towers revival] when everyone else did,” he added. “I don’t know if it would work for us and we’ve not spoken to John Cleese but it’s obviously a legendary show and we would be happy to talk to John if he wanted to talk about it.

As if King Charles III didn’t already have enough drama in his life, between his logorrheic son Prince Harry and disgraced brother Prince Andrew, comedian Harry Enfield is set to unleash a little more chaos ahead of the coronation in May.
Enfield’s Channel 4 comedy “The Windsors” is returning for a coronation special, with the comedian set to reprise his role as the monarch.
“Charles’ whole life has been building up to this moment and he wants the U.K.’s first coronation in seventy years to be a spectacular affair with all the pomp and circumstance he deserves,” reads the logline. “As does his Queen Consort Camilla (Haydn Gwynne), who can’t wait to drape herself in diamonds and fur. Sadly, the U.K. is in the middle of a cost of living crisis and Wills (Hugh Skinner) thinks the coronation should reflect these more straitened times.”

Jamie Demetriou is so hot right now. From Stath Lets Flats to his scene-stealing cameo in Fleabag, the British-Cypriot comic’s fantastically strange style of comedy has not only won him Baftas, but also caught Hollywood’s eye: he starred in Apple TV Plus’s The Afterparty and is appearing Greta Gerwig’s forthcoming Barbie movie. Before Barbie, though: Demetriou’s biggest project yet, his Netflix musical comedy special A Whole Lifetime with Jamie Demetriou. The comic material is decidedly British, with a Netflix sheen: silly, but lacking the sharpness of Stath or his live sketch characters. It’s that attempt to straddle both worlds that leaves Demetriou’s comedy feeling surprisingly watered down.
In the opening scene, an adult Demetriou lies curled up in a ball, in utero. His life flashes before him in sketch form, the comic playing a lolloping child in a tight primary school uniform, an...

British comedy. For years, it has amused and sometimes bemused audiences with its often dry and frequently out-there humor that's either understood and swiftly adored or ditched quicker than a dead parrot. That said, it's certainly had (and continues to have) a huge impact on the shape and overall direction of modern comedy. From the surrealist gags of "Monty Python's Flying Circus" to the painfully awkward realism of "The Office," British comedy series have helped pave the way towards what we now consider the stuff that tickles our funny bones best.
That said, for every David Brent, there are countless other characters -- and their accompanying shows -- that fly under the radar and go criminally unnoticed by international eyes. While British broadcasting may only feature five primary terrestrial channels, its output is large, varied, and colorfully eclectic, with a number of series deserving of far more praise than one nation alone can offer.

“I’ve got another family in Telford that I’ve never spoken about,” announces comedian and writer Holly Walsh on a Zoom press call. “Luckily, by writing this, it’s tax deductible.”
She’s joking of course. Since writing a sitcom pilot about two step-sisters who only discover each other’s existence after their dad’s death, Walsh keeps being asked if the premise is autobiographical. Inside No. 9 returns with a very fraught, very funny episode co-starring Philip Glenister and Jason Watkins. Spoilers ahead…
This review contains spoilers.

“People arguing over a bill - how the hell are you going to keep that going for half an hour without becoming boring?” asked Inside No. 9’s Steve Pemberton here. He and writing partner Reece Shearsmith know full well how; by performing their show’s best trick and twisting the quotidian into lurid, unusual shapes.
The intrigue as to who’s conning who in The Bill motors us through the half-hour—this is Inside No. 9 so we know something’s up—but there’s plenty to admire on the way to our destination. Before it becomes a blood-bath and then an episode of Hustle, The Bill works as an entertaining look at passive aggression and competitiveness.
The dialogue fizzes along,...
