On Monday, Iga Swiatek finished one of her greatest seasons by winning the Wta Finals in the most dominant fashion possible and simultaneously reclaimed the No. 1 ranking.
The Polish star became the youngest winner of the Wta Finals in 12 years. Swiatek conceded just 20 games during her title run, the fewest by a champion at the tournament since the round-robin format was introduced back in 2003.
In a career filled with landmarks and record-breaking wins, this latest triumph takes the cake as the most impressive feat of all. Swiatek laid waste to seven of the world's Top 8 players in the semi-hurricane-like playing conditions in Cancun.
She adapted and weathered the storm better than everybody. Swiatek provided a silver lining to a chaotic tournament. This season, the 22-year-old has spent more time trying to discover her inner self and channeled her focus to develop as a player rather than obsess about the No.

Iga Swiatek has fostered some nice relationships with fellow athletes, including skier Mikaela Shiffrin, who recently spoke about her.
Iga Swiatek had an incredible year last year, and while she didn't have the same year this year, she still produced a solid level. A recent trophy at the China Open proves that, but even so, it wasn't enough to keep herself world number one spot on the Wta Tour.
She lost it to Aryna Sabalenka after an early exit at the US Open. It's not a huge deal for Swiatek , who wasn't bothered by it, but she liked holding it and obviously will want to get it back.
One athlete friend who has no qualms about Swiatek getting it done is skier Mikaela Shiffrin, who spoke with her a few times. She did again recently, revealing what she told her.
What I said to her is, ‘Whatever, that’s coming back.

Iga Swiatek opened up on a chilling childhood experience while skiing and explained the ordeal left her traumatized when growing up.
Speaking in her post-match press conference following a thumping win over Rebecca Peterson , Swiatek started her US Open title defense in the best possible manner. The Pole answered a question on whether skiing is a sport she actually enjoys.
Swiatek stated that her current schedule does not allow her to venture into her hobbies, but she is unlikely to try skiing again after an unpleasant experience when she was seven that nearly cost her life. Swiatek also drew parallels between skiing and tennis, saying that they are individual sports with the same events for both men and women.

Mikaela Shiffrin wants everyone to ignore their haters. On Feb. 18, the Team USA skier posted a powerful video to Instagram to everyone who is dealing with the same type of hate that she is currently experiencing after not completing several races at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. "So, I thought that I should address something," she said in the almost three-minute clip. "My post last night was not actually intended for the haters, it was intended for those people who are getting hate. I truly believe that if you try to address the haters…it really only continues to spread hate and it doesn't fix the problem. The haters are there because...

As has become Olympics tradition, NBC has spent every night of its primetime coverage unveiling the stories of top U.S. athletes like it’s selling a weepy drama about their lives. Figure skater Nathan Chen came to Beijing to banish bad memories of his last botched Olympics, the humiliating clip of which NBC will whip out at a moment’s notice to underline his plight. Biathlete Leif Nordgren had to meet his new daughter virtually, live on air, as he blinked back tears. Alpine skier Mikaela Shiffrin is trying to mount a comeback through debilitating grief over the recent death of her father, whose grin always used to wait for her beyond the finish line. For NBC, these segments represent “heartwarming” tales of resilience and pride, especially if the athletes involved manage to beat the odds and land a medal. When they don’t, the dial turns to “heartbreaking...

Athletes are rallying around Mikaela Shiffrin after her devastating races at the 2022 Winter Olympics. Leading up to the Beijing Games, the Team USA skier was favored to win big in a variety of events. But on Feb. 6, Mikaela crashed in the giant slalom leaving her without a medal. And then, on Feb. 8, she missed the fourth gate in the slalom leaving her unable to finish. While Mikaela looked visibly disappointed, she is feeling the love and support from a variety of athletes including two Olympians who know the pressure she was feeling long before race day. Retired skiing legend Lindsey Vonn took to Twitter with an encouraging message. "Gutted for @MikaelaShiffrin but this does...

What was to be one of the highlights for Team U.S.A. in this Olympics ended in heartbreak as skiing superstar Mikaela Shiffrin missed a gate on her Slalom run tonight and was out of her best event after six seconds.
What was to be a centerpiece of NBC’s primetime coverage quickly became what the network’s Maria Taylor described as “Gold Medal heartbreak” as a dejected Shiffrin skied to the shoulder of the course and just sat down. That left the network’s announcers struggling to describe what was happening onscreen as the two-time Olympic Gold Medalist and three-time Overall World Cup champion simply sat in the snow with her skis off, head down.

Whoever declared that time heals all wounds, Mikaela Shiffrin would like a word. Because two years after the most decorated alpine skier in U.S. history lost her father Jeff Shriffin—the man who dutifully cheered her name and wiped away tears of pride through her last two Olympics appearances—the pain still feels pretty raw. "It's taken so long just to get to this point," she recently confessed to People. "I'm not even close to being done grieving, but every day I feel that spark and motivation returning. It's like healing from an injury. You get to the point where you can race again, but it still hurts sometimes." In fact, there are moments where...

A majority of Hollywood studios withheld their theatrical movie trailers from last year’s Super Bowl as cinemas in Los Angeles and New York City remained closed because of the pandemic.
While the good news is that they’re back this year, we’re not hearing about any massive, head-turning stunts.
In previous Super Bowls, such eyebrow-raisers included Netflix announcing the debut of Paramount’s The Cloverfield Paradox immediately after the 2018 game. That same year, Dwayne Johnson made a lot of noise on The Tonight Show‘s post-game episode about his then summer movie Skyscraper. Before the pandemic hit in 2020, Universal pulled out all the stops for the F9 trailer debut with a Miami concert featuring performances from artists on the pic’s soundtrack. There was also that time when Netflix dropped the trailer for Stranger Things season 2 in 2017 which got a big bang.

NBCUniversal is opening up the streaming throttle on its Olympics coverage, making all coverage of the Beijing Winter Games in February available on Peacock’s premium tier.
In a significant shift from the way it handled last summer’s Tokyo Olympics, NBCU will deliver live competition in 15 sports on Peacock, in addition to the opening and closing ceremonies. The Games are scheduled to run from February 2 to 20. Peacock’s premium tier is available at no additional charge for many customers of pay-tv and broadband services like Comcast Xfinity and Cox Contour. Others pay $5 a month for premium access, or $10 for an ad-free version.
The company said NBCU’s broadcast plans and scheduling will be revealed at a later date. Traditionally, even through last summer, preserving the primacy of the broadcast and cable linear windows was a key strategic priority for NBCU, which is entering its fourth decade of exclusive Olympics rights.
