Children of the '90s were a different breed, thriving on all that was scary and traumatizing, from late-night series like Tales from the Crypt to horror books like Goosebumps.
What we survived back then, we now relinquish to new generations thirty years later. Some may say we're twisted parents because we pass our torment on to our children.

John Carpenter's "The Thing" is a movie so cold and miserable you feel it in your bones as you watch it.
Pitting a group of U.S. civilians at an Arctic research station against a shape-shifting alien that can convincingly imitate other living organisms, Carpenter's 1982 sci-fi/horror flick notoriously bombed upon its initial release in theaters. Over 40 years later, though, it's now justly regarded as a masterclass in genre filmmaking. With its incredibly gory practical creature effects (which are as gross as they ever were) and bleak-as-hell atmosphere, Carpenter's nihilistic exercise in paranoia has aged far more gracefully than the gung-ho Reagan-era entertainment the masses were flocking to at the time it was made.
As a film ahead of its time that would go on to find a much larger fanbase thanks to home media, it was inevitable that Carpenter's "The Thing" would return in some new form...

One of the more cleverly conceived horror films to harness the constraints of Covid lockdown, Rob Savage’s Host located its horror entirely within the domestic space. The director’s newest film, The Boogeyman, a loose adaptation of Steven King’s 1978 short story, takes a similar approach, having its titular villain function as an extension of the darkest corners in an ordinary suburban home. Except that the film, without the hook of pandemic-induced isolation, feels decidedly more generic and its jump scares more traditional, as they’re not filtered through the grainy, fragmented lens of various Zoom chat boxes.
Like the traditional form of the mythical being, the Boogeyman here often hides in closets and underneath beds. But in a twist that’s in line with so much contemporary horror, it also specifically targets “the hurt and vulnerable.” In this case, it’s 10-year-old Sawyer (Vivien Lyra Blair) and her 16-year-old sister,...

Stephen King has written hundreds of short stories and more than sixty novels, but he has only directed one movie. The goofball 1986 film Maximum Overdrive (watch it Here), which came to Blu-ray as part of the Vestron Video Collector’s Series back in 2018. Now it has been announced that Vestron Video has put together a special steelbook release of Maximum Overdrive – and this steelbook will only be available at Walmart! The street date is May 30th, and pre-orders are already been accepted on Walmart.com.

Holed up in a North Carolina truck stop, a group of survivors must fend for themselves against a mass of homicidal trucks.

In 2019, horror icon Steven King raised more than a few eyebrows on Twitter with the following take on how the horror genre is routinely left out of consideration for Academy Awards and accolades.
While his phrasing could have been much less inflammatory, the sentiment behind the controversial take is justifiable. Since the inception of the Academy Awards in 1929, just 18 horror films have received Oscars, with only six of those films receiving nominations in the coveted "Best Picture" category, and only one of those six actually taking home the Oscar. There are several reasons why this is the case, and in my opinion,...

“It was like someone wrote an encyclopedia for the thing we were making,” notes visual effects supervisor Jake Braver of his work on “The Stand.” The Paramount+ limited series is based on the epic apocalyptic novel of good and evil by Stephen King. Braver was drawn to the project because of “the complexity of the characters and how rich the world was.” Braver used the novel as an essential tool in creating the visual language of “The Stand” (he is also a second unit director and a producer), which encompassed grotesque bodies affected by plague, hellish cityscapes, and one wicked devil. Watch the exclusive video interview above.
“One of the most important things about world building is what’s not on the screen,” Braver explains. An example of this philosophy is found in his creation of “New Vegas,” the location the demonic Randall Flagg (Alexander Skarsgard) calls home. Showrunner Benjamin Cavell...

Onstage with fellow executive producer Heather Kadin, Discovery lead Sonequa Martin-Green, new young Spock Ethan Beck and the Anson Mount-played newly introduced Captain Christopher Pike, Kurtzman noted they are just editing the Season 2 finale and that seeds have been planted throughout the latest cycle of the show for more seasons.

Last year it was announced that The Walking Dead’s Greg Nicotero would be developing a Creepshow anthology series. The series is based on the 1982 horror film from Stephen King and George A. Romero and today we have some new details on the project to share with you.
Production Weekly is reporting that one of the episodes will be called “Survivor Type” and it will focus on a character named Richard Pine, who is "Shipwrecked on a desert island” and while there he “reflects on his life and does the unthinkable in order to survive.”
We don’t know what the unthinkable is, but if there’s no food on the island will he eat himself? Because that’s pretty unthinkable, unless you’re demented like me, and it’s the first thing that pops into your head.
Nicotero previously talked about the series, which is coming to the Shudder streaming service.

With Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. set to return for Season 6 this coming July, some new casting information has surfaced that fans might get a kick out of.
According to Revenge of the Fans, Anthony Michael Hall is set to appear in the series! There’s no information on who he will be playing, but we do know that it’s just in a guest starring capacity.
I’ve been a big fan of Hall ever since I saw him in The Breakfast Club. He’s been in some classic films and I also loved his series adaptation of Steven King’s The Dead Zone. He’s always had steady gigs and has recently appeared in shows such as Riverdale and Murder In The First.
The report also reveals that two other guest stars this next season will include Joel Stoffer, who will be back as as Enoch, a member...

The real mystery of This Is Us‘ third season isn’t “Who is ‘her’?” — it’s “How in the world does Randall travel so quickly between Alpine, N.J., and Philadelphia?”
Though the NBC series treats Randall’s commute from his Garden State home to his Pennsylvania campaign grounds like a mere run around the corner, the approximately 110-mile trip actually takes roughly two hours by car. (And that’s one way, with no traffic.)
Since the start of Season 3, Sterling K. Brown’s Randall has made five round-trip drives to the City of Brotherly Love. That’s 20 hours of time on the road,...

When Cary Fukunaga’s manager and producer Michael Sugar first approached him about adapting “Maniac,” a Norwegian show about a guy in a mental hospital having visualized delusions, the initial hook for the director was doing a series with multiple worlds inside it. The ability to move in and out of different genres, juxtaposing broad comedy with emotional sci-fi, not only seemed like a fun filmmaking exercise, but it was not like anything he had done.
Ever since his indie breakout “Sin Nombre,” the Spanish language thriller about a young Honduran woman’s attempt to immigrate to the U.S., Fukunaga has been aware of how he’s seen as a director.
“The reason I did ‘Jane Eyre’ was not only because I loved it as a kid in the Bob Stevenson [1943] version, but also because I had a pretty strong sense of how limited certain people’s imaginations were...

“The Mist” is based on Steven King’s 1980 novella by the same name. Frank Darabont wrote and directed the 2007 movie which starred an ensemble cast including Thomas Jane, Marcia Gay Harden, Samuel Witwer, Toby Jones, Melissa McBride, Jefffrey DeMunn and Juan Gabriel Pareja. Following a bad storm, David Dayton takes his son Billy and neighbor Brad Norton into town to get supplies. When they arrive at the small town’s grocery store, they find the police and military. Ok, now picture this TV series: Law & Order: Vampire Squad. It may sound like something that makes for a comedy but Steven King came up with the idea and it actually is one of the best ideas I have heard in a long time for the “Law & Order” franchise. King is certainly capable of pulling it off, and there is little doubt that the series could use some fresh blood. (Sorry, I couldn’t pass it up.) Look, I don’t know about you but there are only so many murders, rapes, and molestations one can watch without becoming depressed
