The episode of The Best of the Bad Guys focusing on Damien Thorn was written, narrated, and edited by Mike Holtz.
The Prince of Darkness. Heir to both Hell and Thorn Industries. The antichrist himself and guy who gets his haircut at Great Clips, Damien Thorn. The titular character of The Omen franchise will be praised not by his usual followers but by us as we dive into the second edition of The Best Of The Bad Guys, where we rank the best work of cinema’s most evil villains.
Damien Thorn’s run of evil has spanned five films including an utterly pointless shot-for-shot remake and a TV series with another prequel on the way in The First Omen. And though The Omen IV: The Awakening doesn’t follow Damien himself; his presence is felt. The franchise started in 1976 with legendary director Richard Donner giving us the first version...

DreamWorks Animation’s latest feature, “Orion and the Dark,” is all but guaranteed to surprise you. It’s skipping theaters and going straight to Netflix, for starters. On a story level, it reveals the little-known fact that every time humans fall asleep, they’re being bludgeoned or smothered into unconsciousness by a little blue gremlin. But the biggest shock may be the name that appears on the screenplay.
An adult-friendly kids movie about dealing with your anxieties — first and foremost, fear of the dark — the computer-animated feature was written by Charlie Kaufman, the intellect behind “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” and “Adaptation.” The project is itself a miles-outside-the-box adaptation of an inventive and fairly straightforward picture book by Emma Yarlett, which Kaufman complicates as only a galaxy brain like his can.

Warning: The following contains major spoilers for The Babadook.
The first time I watched The Babadook, I nearly had a nervous breakdown. It was March of 2015. My husband, a Cpa, was deep in the throes of tax season, leaving me alone for long stretches of time with our one-year-old son and three-year-old daughter who was going through a screaming phase. Needless to say, the story of a mother pushed to the edge of sanity resonated with me deeply. One scene in particular, monstrous clothing reigning down as the frightened heroine crawls across the floor, was so affecting that I paused the movie and cried for a good ten minutes. Despite the extremity of my reaction, I would wager that I’m not alone. In the ten years since The Babadook premiered at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival, Jennifer Kent’s debut feature has become known for its ability to blend horror...

The cast for FX’s “Alien” series continues to grow, with Deadline reporting that actor Moe Bar-El (The Peripheral) joins in recurring capacity. More interestingly, the announcement gives a bit more insight to the many of the characters in the series.
The series is “set in a time period before Sigourney Weaver’s Ripley and is the first story in the franchise that takes place on Earth, roughly 70 years in the future.” FX originally noted, “Expect a scary thrill ride set not too far in the future here on Earth.”
Bar-El joins previously announced cast members Babou Ceesay (“Guerrilla,” “Damilola”), Jonathan Ajayi (“Wonder Woman 1984,” “Noughts and Crosses”), Erana James (“Uproar,” “The Wilds”), Lily Newmark (“Pin Cushion,” “Sex Education”), Diêm Camille (“Washington Black,” “Alex Rider 3”), and Adrian Edmondson, Timothy Olyphant (“Fargo”), David Rysdahl (“Fargo”), Essie Davis (The Babadook), Alex Lawther (The End of the F*cking World), Samuel Blenkin (“Black Mirror...

Just one day after we learned that Timothy Olyphant (“Fargo”) has joined the cast of FX’s “Alien” series, Deadline reports that David Rysdahl (“Fargo”) has also signed on.
The upcoming series will reteam both Olyphant and Rysdahl with creator Noah Hawley, who of course previously created the small screen version of “Fargo” they starred in.
Sydney Chandler stars in FX’s “Alien” as Wendy, said to be “a hybrid, a meta-human who has the brain and consciousness of a child but the body of an adult.”
FX’s “Alien” series is expected sometime in 2025.
Essie Davis (The Babadook), Alex Lawther (The End of the F*cking World), Samuel Blenkin (“Black Mirror”), and Adarsh Gourav (The White Tiger) will also star.
Creator Noah Hawley‘s take on the Alien franchise has been described as both an “extension and reinvention” of the films that have come before it, with Ellen Ripley not involved.

As we all know, horror films come in many forms and there are many sub-genres within horror that make it both easily accessible and appealing to just about everyone. Whether you’re looking for demon possessions, ghosts, ghouls, haunted houses, or you’ve just got an insatiable appetite for corn syrup- the horror genre has something for you. And as such, the subject of today’s video is the debut feature from Jennifer Kent that plays in the sandbox of the paranormal, while highlighting the idea that the Real fear- is fear itself. The Babadook (watch it Here) is a 2014 psychological horror film that follows a widowed single-mother and her troubled young son. Fede Alvarez’s upcoming Alien movie is currently set for theatrical release on August 16, 2024, but what about the “Alien” TV series from FX and creator Noah Hawley (“Fargo”)?
According to new comments from Hawley, the “Alien” franchise likely isn’t headed to the small screen until sometime in 2025 – a year after Alvarez’s new movie comes along.
“We’re all just waiting for the strike, and it will end,” Hawley tells TheWrap this week. “The plan right now is to go back in January and be shooting in February, and looks like shoot until July or so, which puts the air date somewhere in the first half of ’25.”
How much of the series has already been filmed? Production began back in July, you may recall, but the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike eventually put a pause on the production.

Fargo TV series creator Noah Hawley has been developing an Alien TV series for “FX on Hulu” for the last couple years (here’s everything we know about it), and with all of the scripts written the show was able to go into production in Thailand earlier this year. Then it ran into some trouble due to the Screen Actors Guild strike, having to shoot around cast members who happen to be SAG members. But it’s still moving forward – and during a recent panel at the Austin Film Festival (as reported by Slash Film), Hawley hinted that he’s going to be shaking up some of the familiar elements of the Alien franchise, including finding a way to play with the xenomorph life cycle.
FX head John Landgraf has previously revealed the timeframe the Alien TV show is set in. He told Deadline, “There are some big surprises in store for the audience.

Pet Sematary: Bloodlines is a supernatural horror film directed by Lindsey Anderson Beer, she also co-wrote the film with Jeff Buhler. The Paramount+ film is a prequel to the 2019 film Pet Sematary, which was based on a Stephen King novel of the same name. Pet Sematary: Bloodlines is set in 1969 and it revolves around Jud Crandall, who dreams of leaving his hometown but a dark family history will keep him from fulfilling his dream. Starring Jackson White in the lead role, the film has some great moments worthy of horror fans and if you also loved it here are some similar movies you could watch next.

Horror often asks for a lot of empathy and understanding from its audience. It begs us not to roll our eyes when someone drops a weapon that might give them the upper hand or when they run upstairs and not out the perfectly safe backdoor. Some films, like The Strangers or Night of the Living Dead, create narrative reasons for questionable behavior, which works as we ride with the characters. But then there’s Talk to Me, which paints a painful portrait of someone going through it. Mia (Sophie Wilde) does a lot of which an audience might disagree, but the film excels because it makes her hurt palpable and, more importantly, understandable. Talk to Me makes cliché tropes feel real because it builds its foundation on heartbreak, loneliness, and the things we do to make ourselves feel better when everything feels hopeless.

Why do we find murder mysteries so uniquely relaxing? This is one of the age-old questions about human nature, up there with ‘what is consciousness?’ and ‘why do we keep eating mouldy cheese and fish eggs like it’s a good thing?’ Because, despite the grief and blood and mountains of paperwork that a gruesome murder causes, we simply can’t get enough of curling up on the sofa with a mug of tea and a cosy crime drama to keep us blissfully entertained all the way through to bedtime.
This isn’t a new thing, either: while modern series like Death in Paradise and Shakespeare and Hathaway are the current champions of cosy crime TV, back in the eighties and nineties classics like Murder She Wrote and Hetty Wainthropp Investigates taught us how it’s done. So whether you’re after the latest in the cosy crime genre or some more nostalgic viewing,...

Filming is officially underway on Alien TV series that Fargo TV series creator Noah Hawley has been developing for “FX on Hulu” – with the project having to film around cast members who are on strike with the Screen Actors Guild. We’ve previously heard that the series will star Sydney Chandler of Pistol… but Chandler is in SAG, and therefore isn’t currently on the Alien set in Thailand. Deadline reports that Chandler’s co-stars include Essie Davis (The Babadook), Alex Lawther (The End of the F*cking World), Samuel Blenkin (Black Mirror), and Adarsh Gourav (The White Tiger).
Filming began on Wednesday. Deadline has heard there’s a total of three SAG cast members, and “the production has reworked its shooting schedule to delay their participation for as long as possible.” Other main actors are members of the UK acting union Equity, and Equity actors have been told they...

Do you like scary movies? It turns out that the cast of Scream VI does.
Protagonist Tara Carpenter gets introduced in Scream (2022) as a devoted fan of The Babadook just before a gruesome encounter with Ghostface, and it becomes a running gag throughout the film. Like her character, actress Jenna Ortega (“Wednesday”) also happens to be a horror fan, perhaps even more so than Tara. Ortega recently appeared on an episode of “Hot Ones,” where she gushed about her appreciation for the 1980 slasher Prom Night.
That slasher knowledge inspired a question when Bloody Disgusting spoke with Ortega and Melissa Barrera about Scream VI ahead of the theatrical release on March 10, 2023.
What slasher or horror movie would Ortega recommend to pair with Scream VI? Her answer was surprising.
“I really don’t know that this works as a double feature, but I’ve been talking about that film, Deep Red,” Ortega tells us,...

Aubrey Plaza has a history with "Saturday Night Live" that goes back to her earliest days in show business. In addition to serving as an NBC page, just like Kenneth Parcell on "30 Rock," the "Parks and Recreation" star also served as an intern for "SNL" from 2004-2005. While working with the set design department, she made a brief appearance as a background player in one of Kristen Wiig's "Target Lady" sketches. So it's a proud full circle moment to have Plaza taking the stage in Studio 8H to make her debut as an "SNL" host in the first episode of 2023.
Though Plaza didn't mention her brief screentime on "SNL" during her monologue, she did reflect on the coveted internship and reunited with the set design department in the recurring monologue premise that has the host taking the audience on a tour of the studio. The opening bit set...

Last year's "Scream" breathed new life into the long-running horror franchise, even as it took the lives of numerous characters in accordance with teen slasher tradition. Though it did bring back legacy faces like Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell), Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox), and Dewey Riley (David Arquette), it was the first "Scream" movie to be made without the involvement of Wes Craven, who directed the first four films but passed away in 2015.
Reviving Ghostface for a fifth round of meta-horror fun initially seemed like a dicey prospect (if you'll forgive the knife-edged pun), given that Craven was no longer with us and MTV and VH1 had somewhat diluted the "Scream" brand in the intervening years since "Scream 4." However, one key crew member who remained with the franchise was original screenwriter and series creator Kevin Williamson, who took on an executive producer role and will do so again for "Scream VI....

Show takes a deep dive into story of 1922 film that spawned an entire genre – with free entry for blood donors
It was a nightmare born out of a pandemic: a silent killer that arrived from a faraway land, rapidly spreading a delirious fever across the domestic population and leaving its hosts in an anaemic stupor.
By channelling contemporary fears around infectious diseases in the wake of the 1918-20 influenza pandemic, the 1922 expressionist masterpiece Nosferatu founded an entire genre of vampire horror movies and inspired claw-fingered monsters that would spook generations to come, from Freddy Krueger to the Babadook.

It would have been sacrilege to think of continuing "Scream" without Wes Craven at the helm, but earlier this year, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett proved that there was still a lot of gas left in the tank. Ghostface has been adopted by a whole new generation, and with it, an ensemble of memorable characters. "Scream VI" takes the surviving members of the 2022 massacre, along with "Scre4m" fan favorite Kirby, out of Woodsboro, and into the heavily populated New York City.
The Big Apple has been besieged by the Gremlins ("Gremlins 2: The New Batch") and Jason Voorhees ("Friday the 13th: Part VIII - Jason Takes Manhattan"), but now it's time for Ghostface to get in on the action. Although the highly anticipated teaser trailer for "Scream VI" is barely a minute long, it does an excellent job of raising the stakes.

When you think of Jason Momoa, you probably recall his time as Khal Drogo, the frighting war lord who spoke little and murdered plenty in the first season of "Game of Thrones." Or maybe you think of Arthur Curry, the muscle-bound King of Atlantis who is due to wield his trident at some point in 2023. If you're really cool, then you probably remember his time as the wonderfully named warm hugger and badass swordmaster Duncan Idaho. But the point is this: various roles have established Momoa as an oft-shirtless, very dangerous-looking muscly guy. This is exactly why he jumped at a chance to star in "Slumberland," where he plays the imaginary friend of any kid's dream.

Natali took to Twitter to inform us, “A reminder: Graveyard Rats is available in glorious Black & White in the ‘Trailers & More’ section of the Netflix Cabinet of Curiosities menu. I like the color version but this is the way I intended it to be viewed. Colin Hoult’s cinematography is gorgeous.“
Here’s the info on that particular episode:

From Nosferatu to A Nightmare on Elm Street, LGBTQ+ viewers have long detected a queer undertone in many horror films. Now the genre is bringing its gay subtext to the surface
Australian director Jennifer Kent didn’t set out to make a queer classic when she wrote and shot The Babadook, a clever, sneakily terrifying independent film about a single mother and son terrorised by a strange supernatural entity sprung from the pages of a shabby children’s picture book. Certainly no critics read it as such as the film made its way round the festival circuit in 2014, scooping acclaim and awards aplenty.
However, the internet had other ideas. Over the next few years, various wags of Tumblr began to insist that the film’s eponymous monster – a towering charcoal-sketched ghoul with a stovepipe hat, icepick fingers and an inordinate number of sharply rectangular teeth – was in fact a gay icon.

It feels like it took an unnaturally long time for Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities to exist. That’s partially on a literal level, because Netflix first ordered an anthology series from the Pan’s Labyrinth director back in May 2018, but it’s much more big-picture: In this ever-expanding TV universe, a horror anthology curated by an A-list director in the vein of Alfred Hitchcock Presents has obvious value and if you were going to find a 21st century equivalent for Hitch’s screen persona — aloof-yet-affable, authoritative-yet-inviting — del Toro is the first and only person to whom you’d go.
Del Toro is an Oscar-winning filmmaker, a bestselling author and a collector of both horror memorabilia and horror properties for big and small screen development. The latter at least partially explains the long gap between pick-up and release for what is now...

Guillermo del Toro joins the ranks of episodic genre anthology curators like Alfred Hitchcock and Rod Serling with his “Cabinet of Curiosities.” Del Toro assembles a Murderers’ Row of horror filmmakers for his limited anthology series, each story contained within his ornate oddities cabinet. That singular, eponymous item doesn’t just anchor the anthology but serves as a visual representation of the type of vintage scary story collection that “Cabinet of Curiosities” unfurls.
Del Toro introduces each selected tale like a sophisticated carnival barker. A short monologue ensues as the genre maestro opens his cabinet and plucks out a representative item for each curated story along with a carved figurine of its director. Series creator and executive producer del Toro hand selected each story and director, uniting their distinct visions through a recurring theme of hidden, shifting realities. The episodes range from the macabre to classic frights to the fantastical,...

What’s a horror story without a boogeyman, a nefarious presence, a stone-cold killer with a plan, the bad guy just around the corner? Horror movies live and die on the strength of their baddies, from masked murderers and supernatural beings to raging psychopaths and even the odd killer disease or two. Just who is knocking on your front door this spooky season? And why the hell would you answer?
There are clusters of killers that immediately come to mind when curating a best villains list. Take a look at the horror history books and you’ll quickly stumble onto the Universal monster movie headliners: Frankenstein, Dracula, the Mummy, and so on. Look further and you’ll find yourself amid the late ’70s and mid-80s slasher staples: Freddy, Jason, Leatherface, Michael. Continue on to the champions of the late ’80s and early ’90s: Chucky, Hellraiser, Candyman. These days, many...

Adult animation fans are finally getting the crossover event of our dreams, as Linda Belcher herself confirmed that the upcoming "The Simpsons: Treehouse of Horror Xxxiii" will feature a crossover between everyone's favorite animated families.
"The Simpsons" set the bar for animated Halloween TV specials for years. Their "Treehouse of Horror" parodies represent some of the best and most memorable episodes of the juggernaut series' history. We've personally ranked some of their 15 best segments, but trying to choose from over 30 years of horror comedy greatness is a fool's errand. Not to be outdone, the creatives over at "Bob's Burgers" have also prioritized Halloween specials, which we've also ranked, because we love you and want you to have nice things.
The episode will mark the first crossover event with "The Simpsons" and "Bob's Burgers," although both shows have made appearances on other animated shows. "Bob's Burgers" had a fan-favorite crossover with "Archer,...

Lorcan Finnegan’s ‘Nocebo’ subverts the wicked nanny subgenre with a haunting horror story with a ruthless, relevant message.
“I am here with you.”
There are few bonds that are more innate and eternal than those between family. These fundamental connections can push the most ordinary of individuals to do impossible things. Parenthood–whether it’s the stresses that surround this responsibility or the idea that someone else doesn’t deserve it–is subject matter that frequently finds itself at the center of the horror genre. There is no shortage of evil nanny or creepy kid horror movies, but Lorcan Finnegan’s Nocebo strives for something more with this surreal, visceral Irish/Filipino hybrid horror story that contains some of the most haunting visuals of the year. It’s a powerful gut punch of a film that feels like M. Night Shyamalan’s Servant meets The Babadook meets Inside.

What's a ghost story worth without a scary ghost? In "Sinister," there are six of them. Five are the specters of long-dead children, each of whom murdered their families before being spirited away. The scariest one of all is their master, Bughuul. "Mr. Boogie," as his servants call him, is an ancient deity who sustains himself by corrupting and devouring the souls of children. Portrayed by actor Nick King, the villain doesn't say a word and his screen time is scant. However, his blank searing expression makes for effective jump scares, which are often close-ups of his face.
For /Film's new 10-year anniversary oral history of "Sinister," Ryan Scott spoke with the film's director Scott Derrickson and screenwriter C. Robert Cargill. The two shed some light on the development of Bughuul, both from a narrative and design perspective.

To mark the release of The Babadook on 28th March, we’ve been given 1 copy to give away on 4K Ultra HD.
Following the violent death of her husband on the day their son Samuel (Noah Wiseman) was born, Amelia (Essie Davis) struggles with his erratic behaviour, and is still battling with the never-ending grief. Refusing to celebrate Samuel’s birthday as it’s inextricably linked to such a traumatic time, life is a struggle and the one person who’s always been there for her, her sister’s (Hayley McElhinney) patience is wearing thin.
As Samuel’s seventh birthday approaches his fears get worse, he’s convinced a monster is coming to get them, and he won’t settle, no matter how many bedtime stories he’s told. When an intriguing storybook appears on the bookshelf, Samuel becomes convinced that the Babadook is the monstrous creature he’s always...

The Port Arthur shooting of 1996 in Tasmania remains Australia’s deadliest incidents committed by a single person. That’s a horrifying piece of history to take on for a movie, but Australian filmmaker Justin Kurzel takes a slanted approach to the material by not showing the actual events, but instead what built to them through the eyes of the perpetrator. In his new film, “Nitram,” Caleb Landry Jones play the protagonist (here named Nitram) in a portrait of a psychopath brewing. Kurzel is naturally the fit for the material, as he has plumbed the depths of the dark side of Australian history before with “True History of the Kelly Gang” and “The Snowtown Murders.” Exclusively on IndieWire, watch the trailer for “Nitram” below.
Caleb Landry Jones has been a go-to for playing feral, gnarly characters, from “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri” to the gnashing drug addicts in the Safdies’ “Heaven Knows What...

The tongue clucks in "Hereditary." Ju-on's death rattle. The Babadook's vocal fry. There are some uncanny sounds in horror movies that invade more nightmares than any spoken line. One such sound was ad-libbed by a knighted Oscar-winning Welshman on the set of a movie directed by a Roger Corman protege. Any guesses? The answer is Sir Anthony Hopkins, whose portrayal of imprisoned flesh-eating psychiatrist Dr. Hannibal Lecter in Jonathan Demme's "The Silence of the Lambs" creeped out generations of moviegoers with a simple, slithered slip of the tongue.

Murray Abraham, Ben Barnes, Elpidia Carrillo, Essie Davis, Hannah Galway, Crispin Glover, Demetrius Grosse, David Hewlett, Andrew Lincoln, Tim Blake Nelson, Luke Roberts, Sebastian Roché, Glynn Turman and Peter Weller to its cast.
