Dolly Parton honored Tom Petty with a gorgeous cover of his 1985 song, “Southern Accents,” which will appear on the upcoming tribute compilation Petty Country: A Country Music Celebration of Tom Petty.
“Southern Accents” is a tender ballad about Southern roots and a down-on-his luck Florida orange-picker. Parton stays faithful to the original, adding her own country twang, and juicing the poignancy further with a music video filled with old archival footage of Petty.
“I was fortunate enough to get to know Tom over the years,” Parton said in a statement.

Jason Aldean’s fans booed Maren Morris during his recent show in Nashville.
The country crooner was performing at the Bridgestone Arena when he mentioned that he’d been wondering which friend to invite up on stage to perform with him.
Aldean told the crowd, “I thought, ‘Man, who can I call?’
“I got some friends in town. I could call Luke Bryan. I could call Kane Brown. See if Kenny Chesney’s here and not at the beach.”
The crowd cheered for each name until Aldean said, “Maren Morris,” which elicited a negative response. As the jeers continued, Aldean pretended to look confused by the reaction.

Maren Morris just launched a new T-shirt in support of trans rights groups, especially LGBTQ youth.
Earlier this month, the country superstar raised over 150,000 for transgender awareness after designing a T-shirt inspired by her recent comments amid her feud with Brittany Aldean. Now, Morris teamed up with GLAAD, the world’s largest LGBTQ media advocacy organization, to design a new shirt in an effort to raise awareness for the group’s upcoming anti-lgbtq youth bullying initiative #SpiritDay.
In a new interview with GLAAD’s Anthony Allen Ramos, Morris shared that, at first, putting “lunatic country music person” on a T-shirt felt “so silly” but it was in effort to raise awareness for LGBTQ youth after she was called a “lunatic” for defending trans youth on social media. It quickly turned into something positive because all of the proceeds she raised went directly to charity — GLAAD’s Transgender Media Program and Trans LifeLine.

Brittany Aldean is standing by her controversial statements about children and gender despite the recent backlash.
Aldean, who is married to country crooner Jason Aldean, was slammed last week for writing on Instagram: “I’d really like to thank my parents for not changing my gender when I went through my tomboy phase. I love this girly life.”
The likes of Cassadee Pope and Maren Morris have since criticized the social media star for the comments, with Morris calling her “a scumbag human,” adding: “Sell your clip-ins and zip it, Insurrection Barbie.”

Brittany Aldean still has last week’s online altercation with Maren Morris and Cassadee Pope on her mind.
Aldean got into it with Maren Morris and Cassadee Pope last week, drawing secondary responses from Morris’ husband — Ryan Hurd — and Brittany’s husband, Jason Aldean. Brittany made a remark about gender identity on Aug. 23 that rubbed some people the wrong way.
“I’d really like to thank my parents for not changing my gender when I went through my tomboy phase,” Brittany wrote at the time. “I love this girly life.”
After getting dragged through the country mud by Morris and Pope, Brittany nudged at the barbs while promoting her merchandise and an affiliated nonprofit on Tuesday.
“Per usual, my words have been taken out of context over the last week,” Aldean wrote on Tuesday. “Instead of getting twisted about the twisting of my words, I’ve chosen to bring some good out of it.

Maren Morris is thinking of her husband while on the road. Just days after Ryan Hurd took to Twitter to defend Maren amid her social media feud with Brittany Aldean, the "My Church" singer, who has been traveling for her Humble Quest tour, reflected on touring with a toddler and missing her husband. "Kids and touring is a creative adjustment that a lot of people have helped us make a reality, but we are making it work," she wrote in her Aug. 29 post. "We miss @ryanhurd and can't wait to be home." As for why Ryan isn't on that tour bus with Maren and their 2-year-old son Hayes, the "Coast" singer is on the road himself with country artist...

When Maren Morris released her 2018 pop breakthrough, “The Middle,” the song introduced one of her guiding philosophies with a simple question: “Why don’t you just meet me in the middle?”
Ever since debuting with 2015’s soulful singalong “My Church,” Morris has carved out her space as Nashville’s most thoughtful hitmaker, despite steering her career in seemingly unexpected directions: She’s the only pop singer who could just as credibly appear with Zedd at a Vegas nightclub and perform at the Newport Folk Festival alongside the Highwomen, her singer-songwriter supergroup.
