Boys Noize and Pussy Riot have a simple message for Putin and the rest of the patriarchy: “Put it in a dick cage.” On “Chastity,” their new joint single, which also features Alice Glass, they play with sexual power dynamics – “When I say ‘sit,’ you sit/When I say ‘crawl,’ you crawl” – over burbling, clubby synths all leading to the chorus/punchline: “You can make me love you if you … put it in a dick cage.”

Cher has left a mark on the entertainment industry that’s hard to match. Known for her incredible voice and powerful performances on stage, she has also dabbled in acting and made some memorable appearances on the big and small screens. One such appearance was her cameo on the hit TV show Will & Grace, which had fans buzzing for weeks. However, what’s even more surprising is that Cher apparently didn’t rehearse ahead of her cameo, which left the cast and crew stunned.

Cher guest-starred in the Will & Grace Season 3 episode “Gypsies, Tramps and Weed” in 2000. She returned for the first half of the Season 4 finale in 2002, entitled “A.I.: Artificial Insemination: Part 1.”
In “Gypsies, Tramps, and Weed,” Jack, a huge fan of Cher, buys a doll of hers and treats it like a real person.

The couple’s 21-year-old daughter Lola was also in the studio audience for the show, making the day a family affair.
Ripa and Consuelos spoke with Variety about going from husband-and-wife to co-hosts, admitting they were not into the idea at first.

This week on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., the light-hearted time-travel hijinks of the first five episodes made way for harder-hitting drama that left one agent shell-shocked and another in… far worse shape.
After Deke taunted the all-seeing Chronicoms by shooting dead Wilfred Malick, Luke (which I realize is the lead Chronicom’s “name”!) lays the blame on Sibyl aka The Predictor. Au contraire, she argues. They now have S.H.I.E.L.D.’s location, they split up their team, and they know that agents will make a beeline to rescue Mack’s parents. Placated, Luke sets out...

Natasha Lyonne is set to direct an episode of Comedy Central’s as-yet-untitled Awkwafina project. This immediately follows Lyonne’s stint helming an episode of Hulu’s High Fidelity reboot series. She will also direct an episode of Shrill, the streamer’s Aidy Bryant-starrer.
“I was directing High Fidelity mostly in Brooklyn, and now I’m directing Awkwafina mostly in Queens, so I’m really making my way through the boroughs,” Lyonne joked to Deadline. She will direct episode 104, entitled “Paperwork,” of the Awkwafina project.
“It’s been great,” Lyonne said of these latest directing opportunities. “I’m getting in my hours. I dropped out of film school when I was 16. I dropped out of Tisch. I was in the filmmaking program as a film and philosophy double major. I really thought that I was going to read all these philosophical works and then I was going to make movies about them.

Natasha Lyonne has been a star since she was a teenager, from her roles in “Slums of Beverly Hills” (1998), “American Pie” (1999) and “But I’m a Cheerleader” (1999) to her recent turn as prison inmate Nicky Nichols in “Orange is the New Black.” But she outdoes herself in her new Netflix series “Russian Doll,” which starts with a high-concept premise and then spirals out into new, bizarre, absurd and often moving directions. And she’s not only the star of the show, she’s also a co-creator, writer, director and producer.
Lyonne created “Russian Doll” with Leslye Headland and Amy Poehler (“Parks and Recreation”), and she stars as Nadia Vulvokov, a video game designer celebrating her 36th birthday. But Nadia keeps dying in calamitous ways, and every time she does she returns to the same moment to start again, respawning just like a video game character. Why is she stuck in this time loop,...

For Natasha Lyonne, spending seven years working on “Orange Is the New Black” was more than a job. “I really grew up there in many ways,” she told IndieWire, just as the show was getting close to wrapping its final season.
When asked how she felt about the show ending, the actress and director’s first response was to talk about her castmates. “We’re very tight. Not a day goes by where I’m not in touch or FaceTiming, texting, or something with Uzo, Samira, Danielle, Taylor. I’ve spent some of the holidays with Kate Mulgrew. We’re really a pretty tight tribe,” she said.
It’s a tribe that Lyonne, whose career stretches back to 1986, continues to surround herself with, as seen by the casting of Dascha Polanco — or as Lyonne referred to her, “Dash” — in the series “Russian Doll.” Lyonne created the show with Amy Poehler and Leslye Headland for Netflix,...

To a much greater degree than their male counterparts, many of music’s top female singers have attempted to make the leap into the next frontier: acting. Yet only a few have managed to sustain major screen careers.
Does Lady Gaga possess the thespian talent to pull it off? She already has a Golden Globe for “American Horror Story” to go along with her six Grammys. Now, with her first starring role in a feature film, the just-opened fourth remake of “A Star Is Born,” she’s on the edge of potential Oscar glory.
You could say the true test of potential staying power for female singers has been the screen test. Doris Day aced hers in the golden age of Hollywood, and so, in the rock era, did Cher, after several flubs (including the 1969 flop “Chastity”). Barbra Streisand and Bette Midler both started in the theater but became famous...

Rock stars wanting to be actors and vice versa are a common phenomenon in Hollywood. No one quite managed to pull off the transition with the success of Cher, who remains the only rock icon to manage to not only make a successful transition to acting but also to win an Oscar for acting and not composing.
It wasn’t an easy transition though. Cher paired with husband Sonny Bono in her teens to become the duo simply known as Sonny and Cher. After a string of hit records, the duo launched a successful television variety show where Cher was able to hone her acting and comedic skills as she appeared in various sketches. Her marriage to Sonny would end in divorce, and Cher struggled to transition in to acting. Upon receipt of a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress for “Silkwood,” Cher thanked all the Hollywood moguls who would never give her a job.

Now that Chaz Bono has undergone gender reassignment, he wants to become a Hollywood leading man. The child of Cher and the late Sonny Bono, who turns 44 on March 4, last acted on network TV in 1997; when he was still Chastity, Bono played a support group leader in the episode of Ellen in which Ellen DeGeneres' character came out to her parents.

Hmm, how shall I describe my reaction when I read the news that Cher and the Logo network are teaming up on a TV show about '60s Hollywood? Hmmmm. How about: I fell through the floor and into the sky. This is news from a better dimension, people. A richer, greater universe where our queen is a half-breed gypsy tramp who's just like Jesse James and named, uh, Cher. I'm torqued for this show.
More tantalizing yet is we're not sure whether Cher will star in the show or bring any of her personal story to the plot. Luckily, this gives us an opportunity to propose ideas for the program and help egg along the creative process. Here are my five ideas for Cher/Logo collaboration about Hollywood in the swingin' '60s.

Once upon a time I wrote a column called "Bad Movies We Love," and I feel close enough to you to admit that -- actually? -- I don't love bad movies. I would rather watch something good, weirdly. I'm sensitive when it comes to reserving time for woefully bad cinema, and that's why I want to help kick off your summer with the essential gay stinkbombs. Summer is the best time to gather your friends at 11 a.m. on a Saturday, gather around the thespian sorcery of Elizabeth Berkley, and cry, cry, and laugh until you're whole. Let's celebrate the worst of the best of the worst!

Warren Beatty and Annette Bening's transgender son has hit out at Chaz Bono and branded him a misogynist after the Dancing With The Stars contestant insisted he felt like he had a "birth defect" as a guy trapped in a girl's body.
Bono was born Chastity, the daughter of Cher and late singer Sonny Bono, and he began the two-year process for gender reassignment surgery in 2008.
He recently gave an interview to the New York Times, in which he claimed that being transgender was like having a "mismatched" brain and body.
He said, "For transgender people, they're mismatched. That's all it is. It's not complicated, it's not a neurosis. It's a mix-up. It's a birth defect, like a cleft palate."
But Beatty and Bening's 19-year-old son Stephen Ira, who was born as daughter Kathlyn, has taken offence to the comparison and lashed out at Bono in his blog Super Mattachine.
In a blog post entitled Why Chaz Bono Is a Misogynist Who Does Not Represent Us, Ira writes, "I do not have a birth defect. If you feel like you have a birth defect, fine. That's how you feel. Go feel that. Do not put it onto me. Do not define me that way, and do not define other trans people that way unless they claim that label.
"Chaz has appointed himself as the representative of a group of people who are not all like him. He has said misogynistic and prescriptivist things about gender. I take particular issue with his comments on trans embodiment and on women."
But Ira insists he bears no ill-will towards Bono because he's convinced he's simply struggling to get to grips with his new life as a man.
In a follow-up post, Ira states, "He's in a difficult position and he's chosen to deal with it in a certain way. I disagree with the way he's dealing with it. I think he's got serious issues with women, and I think he's needlessly prescriptive in the way he chooses to talk about trans identity."
And he's offered to meet up with Bono to join forces and campaign together for gay rights.
He adds, "I would be more than happy to sit down with Chaz, have a drink, and talk with him about how he can think and talk about gender in a way that's more inclusive. He seems like an all right guy, his questionable views aside. And from what I've seen, he's really remarkably good at the cha cha."
Ira is Beatty and Bening's eldest of four children.

Following the initially fascinating but ultimate tedium of black-magic mumbo-jumbo Shaw Brothers oddity The Boxer’s Omen (1983) as the highly anticipated ‘Mystery Film’ choice from Fantastic Fest, Sunday evening’s Drive-In Delirium Presents… double bill mash-up was something to get seriously geeked out about.
Ozploitation extraordinarie Mark Hartley (Not Quite Hollywood) and Alamo Drafthouse Cinema’s ‘Weird Wednesday’ programmer Lars Niels presented their film clip compendiums; the first of which, Trailorpalooza, compiled a collection of cult film trailers plucked from the last 50 years and featured some of the most ludicrously over-the-top scenarios ever conceived. What was most surprising however was the calibre of former Hollywood heavy-weights who actually agreed to sign up to such straight-to-the-trash can concepts.

The 65-year-old singer found it "very hard" to adjust her mindset when Chaz Bono - who was born a woman named Chastity and began gender reassignment surgery around three years ago – initially had a sex change, but she thinks people should forget any "preconceptions" they have because he is a "wonderful person".
She told TV talk show host Anderson Cooper: "As a mom, you have a child, and then all of a sudden you have a different child. But you have the same child. And so, it's very hard to kind of twist your mind around to the adjustment. But then, when you look at it and you're around your child, you just think, no difference. Same child, different wrapping.

Chaz with his mother.
As you probably already know, this year one of the contestants on Dancing with the Stars is Chaz Bono, a transgender man, writer, Lgbt activist, and son of Sonny and Cher. Being a transgender man myself, I had mixed reactions when I first heard the announcement that he would be competing.
On the one hand, I was excited that they were willing to branch out and include a transgender contestant, even if that was sure to – and did, in fact – attract a lot of negative attention. As they say, there's no such thing as bad publicity.
But I did wonder if the show would have wanted Chaz if he were not transgender. If he were still Chastity. Was being transgender itself enough to qualify you as a "celebrity?" Was including him on the show just a ratings gimmick?
One of the major naysayers for having Chaz...

But I did wonder if the show would have wanted Chaz if he were not transgender. If he were still Chastity. Was being transgender itself enough to qualify you as a "celebrity?" Was including him on the show just a ratings gimmick?
One of the major naysayers for having Chaz...

The Italian actress and TV presenter – who is the ex-girlfriend of George Clooney – was voted off the show by viewers last night (27.09.11), despite her and professional partner Val Chmerkovskiy landing in third place with a score of 21 out of 30 the previous evening.
She said: "For me, it was a gift every day staying here. It was a great adventure. I want to thank everybody because they made me come here. Thanks to the public and to everybody who voted for us.
"Now I am really nervous, but thank you anyway. It was a great experience."
Meanwhile, Chaz Bono has admitted his ankles have "taken a pounding" during the vigorous training sessions for the competition, so he and his partner Lacey Schwimmer are opting for a slower-paced rumba next week.

The 'Believe’ hitmaker hasn’t confirmed which show she will attend, but has made it clear she will be in the audience for at lease one episode to make “a statement” against negative attitudes towards her transgender son.
According to TMZ.com, the singer is not hoping to drive votes for Chaz - who was born a female named Chastity and began gender reassignment surgery around three years ago – but show her support against “what she considers to be bigotry”.
Cher has reportedly become even more determined to appear on the show in the wake of criticism that Chaz’s involvement with 'DWTS’ could be “confusing” for children.
However, the 42-year-old activist recently stood up to these claims, saying he is just a “normal guy” who could have a “positive impact” on young people suffering from gender dysphoria.

Transgender continues to be a hot topic in the media. Five months after Own's debut, Oprah Winfrey finally delivered on her Sundance promise to do for docs what she did for books. Own's Documentary Club launched Tuesday with the Sundance doc about the son of Sonny and Cher, Becoming Chaz, which ranked fifth in its time period among all ad supported cable networks in the key female demo. Numbers were also strong for the follow-up show, as “The Doc Club with Rosie O’Donnell” hosted a Q & A with Bono and girlfriend Jennifer Elia. Cher herself calls the child who was born Chastity her daughter, still, and seems remarkably uncomfortable throughout Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato's doc about what her kid is going through. Chaz Bono has nothing to hide. Not only has the man formerly known as Sonny and Cher's daughter Chastity opened up about being transgender and transitioning from female to male in a new memoir and documentary, but now... He's showing off his post-breast removal body in The Advocate. Among the photos accompanying the cover story (titled "Fortunate Son"), is one of a shirtless Bono lounging on a raft in a pool. In another, his chest peeks out from behind a towel around his shoulders. In every photo? Bono's big bright smile. "Life was really difficult, but now it's fun and I'm on the same footing as everyone else," he tells writer Jeremy Kinser. "I...

Oprah Winfrey’s Own aired the powerful documentary Becoming Chaz tonight, which focused on Chaz Bono, born Chastity to Cher and Sonny Bono, and his struggle to transition from female to male. It was a personal and, at times, difficult film to watch (I’m a little squeamish when it comes to surgical stuff). The cameras did not shy away from showing the various surgeries that Chaz endured or the difficult recovery process. Nor did they ignore the stress Chaz’s transition placed upon him and his girlfriend. The one thing I did find odd was Cher’s lack of...

Cher's son Chaz Bono has reached out to Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, offering to give them tips about how to parent a tomboy.
Bono was born Chastity, the daughter of Cher and Sonny Bono, but he recently underwent gender reassignment surgery to fulfil his dream of becoming a man.
And, after speaking out about his physical and emotional transformation, Bono admits he'd like to talk to the superstar couple about their four-year-old biological daughter Shiloh, who has captured the media's attention by donning a short haircut and clothes more commonly found on a boy.
Even Jolie has admitted her daughter is quite the tomboy.
Bono tells E! News, "I would love to talk to them (Brad and Angelina) at some point, to at least let them know we have this resource for them if they ever need it. I relate to these kids. The difference between them and myself is that I didn't articulate it and fight for it and say, 'No, no, no! I'm a boy!'
"I have so much respect for these kids that do... People get too freaked out about kids and what to do with kids. If you just let kids do what they need to do they usually have the right idea."...

Some musicians have a distinct advantage when it comes to launching an acting career, bringing celebrity and a fan base to the bargaining table that can add crucial appeal to their early prospects. However, musicians (and we use the term loosely), rappers and singers must also struggle with the preconceived notion that comes with them, to the ruin of many who cannot break free of their tabloid typecasting. But this can also be their greatest asset -- there is nothing audiences love more than watching someone defy expectation, other than perhaps a star, defying expectation. Many have tried, most have failed. Everyone from Michael Jackson to Mos Def, Method Man to Mick Jagger, have dabbled in acting with varying degrees of success. Most recently, Justin Timberlake has come out strong in "The Social Network," but we decided to focus on the early role, the first real performance of some of...

The excellent documentary 'Becoming Chaz' is an engaging and educational look at one person's journey to make his outsides match his inside. The public eye has been on Chaz (née Chastity) Bono since he was a blond moppet on his parents' variety show, 'The Sonny and Cher Show.' Although Chaz officially came out as a lesbian in '95, it took him much longer to come to terms with his transgender identity. Despite his shyness and a lifetime of discomfort (to say the least) in his own body, Chaz opens up his life, his home and his history for this warm, moving and funny documentary.
