If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to play ping-pong with Prince you’ve come to the right place. On this week’s episode of 20 Questions on Deadline, Jimmy Fallon tells a frankly bizarre story about the “Purple Rain” legend and his penchant for table tennis.
We also gain insight into Keith Urban’s sense of humor as Fallon reveals a prank he and Urban once played on Nicole Kidman at an event, plus, the shame-inducing ‘date’ Fallon went on with her years ago.
All these anecdotes seem especially apropos, given that Fallon is celebrating ten years as host of The Tonight Show. In celebration, NBC will air a two-hour special on May 14th, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon: 10th Anniversary Special.
In the podcast, Fallon reminisces about the time Harrison Ford pierced his ear, the experience of riding a rollercoaster with Kevin Hart, and trying to...

Exclusive: No decision has been made official, but sources tell Deadline that New Line is the favorite to land the package that is based on the biography The Chris Farley Show with Paul Walter Hauser attached to play the legendary comedian. The pitch is based on the book by Farley’s brother Tom Farley Jr. and Tanner Colby and will be adapted by Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber with Josh Gad directing. Lorne Michaels, who found and cast Farley in Saturday Night Live in the ’90s, is producing through his Broadway Video.
Insiders say the family has given their blessing to the project. The studio had no comment.
The film would tell the story of one of the great comic actors of his generation. Getting his start in the second heyday of Saturday Night Live, where Farley would join an ensemble of all-time SNL greats including Adam Sandler, David Spade,...

As this year’s president of the White House Correspondents’ Association, NBC News senior White House Kelly O’Donnell will preside over one of the biggest evenings in D.C. — a mix of politicos, media types and celebrities airing live across C-span and other networks.
But the issues that a Whca president routinely deals with range from the weighty, like pushing for media access to the president and promoting the role of journalists in a free society; to the less earth-shaking but still important, like coping with plumbing issues in the tight confines of the press area of the West Wing.
O’Donnell on Thursday marked 30 years with NBC News, a tenure that has included covering four presidential administrations, seven election cycles and numerous major events, including embedding with troops in Iraq.

Sydney Sweeney became a successful producer at a young age when she co-produced her smash hit rom-com Anyone But You. The actress proved her business savvy by crafting a highly specialized marketing campaign for the film. This unexpectedly included reportedly deliberately teasing the public regarding linkup rumors with co-star Glen Powell.
It was a bold strategy built upon months of rumors swirling around Sweeney and Powell. Social media was agog with speculations, even in the months following the release of the movie. Much digital ink was spilled dissecting the interactions between the stars during promos and in behind-the-scenes features. In the end the tactic paid off, and the marketing team behind the movie proved they knew what they were doing with the film’s publicity campaign.

It’s a long-standing love/hate relationship: Late-night TV and the White House Correspondents Dinner. It’s love because the reporters want to juice the event with laughs; but the romance sometimes goes sour because they often have trouble deciding: “Is that funny?”
The result? Whichever late-night star accepts the invitation to interrupt the din of political chatter and networking to deliver an array of topical jokes to a massive ballroom with poor acoustics and occasional clattering tableware is going to be hyper-aware that killing in this venue may refer not just to your act but also to your career.
So: Welcome Colin Jost!
For sure, the co-anchor of Saturday Night Live’s “Weekend Update” is a totally logical choice, and his performance on this live Saturday night stage is something to look forward to. “The Curse” explores the tumultuous lives of a married couple (Fielder and Stone), who encounter a string of misfortunes while filming an HGTV series in New Mexico. Stone, fresh off her second best actress Oscar win for her role in Yorgos Lanthimos’ “Poor Things,” is eyeing her first Emmy nod. Nielsen live-plus-seven-day data for Ryan Gosling’s Saturday Night Live episode has arrived, and the results are positive.
With Gosling as host, and Chris Stapleton as musical guest, the April 13, 2024 edition of SNL delivered 7,510,000 linear viewers. That represents the show’s largest total linear audience since Dec. 10, 2022, when Steve Martin and Martin Short were co-hosts, and Brandi Carlile was the musical guest. Additionally, the Gosling-led episode delivered 1,727,000 P18-49 linear viewers, the show’s largest P18-49 linear audience since Oct. 14, 2023, when Pete Davidson hosted the Season 49 premiere.
The Gosling-SNL story is even stronger if one takes into account episode viewing across digital platforms: 8.9 million total viewers and 2.64 million P18-49 viewers. Not only do the 8.9 million and 2.64 million represent season highs for the show, but the 8.9 million is SNL’s largest cross-platform audience since Dec. 11, 2021, when Billie Eilish was both the host and musical guest.

The April 13 Saturday Night Live, with host Ryan Gosling and musical guest Chris Stapleton, had several talked-about moments, from Gosling’s monologue with his Fall Guy co-star Emily Blunt to a Beavis and Butt-head sketch that caused cast member Heidi Gardner to break down laughing. Taylor Swift also gave a thumbs-up to Gosling and Blunt’s Barbenheimer-themed reworking of “All Too Well.”
The water-cooler nature of the episode paid off in the ratings, as SNL hit some of its best numbers of recent years. After a week of cross-platform viewing, the episode drew 8.9 million viewers and a 2.0 rating (equivalent to about 2.64 million people) in the adults 18-49 demographic, both of which are season highs.
More than season highs, in fact: SNL had its best showing in total viewers since Dec. 11, 2021, when Billie Eilish was both the host and musical guest. The show also hit its best 18-49 rating since Nov.

As host of the April 13 episode, Ryan Gosling brought “Saturday Night Live” its biggest Peacock audience ever when accounting for seven days of viewership.
While an exact number of Peacock viewers is not available, the episode’s seven-day total across all platforms is 8.9 million — up from the 1.7 million viewers who tuned in night-of. This comes from a combination of Nielsen’s measurement of linear viewers on NBC and NBCUniversal’s own data regarding streams on Peacock.
This represents the show’s best seven-day viewership since December of 2021, when Billie Eilish served as both host and musical guest. Additionally, the episode rose from 0.3 rating among adults age 18-49 on April 13 to a seven-day rating of 2.0, the show’s highest since Dave Chappelle hosted in November 2022 with Foo Fighters as musical guest.

Ryan Gosling is not a dumbass; heh heh, heh, heh heh heh, heh! Thanks in large part to a “Beavis and Butt-Head” sketch that went viral, Gosling’s “Saturday Night Live” episode is the most-watched “SNL” since late 2021.
Counting one week’s worth of delayed viewing (which is fine and normal but really helps when something goes viral) and all platforms, the April 13, 2024 telecast of “SNL” drew 8.9 million total viewers, according to NBC. That’s the most since Billie Eilish hosted the program on December 11, 2021.
The Gosling episode, for which he was promoting film “The Fall Guy,” is the most-watched “SNL” episode ever on Peacock. Gosling’s musical guest was Chris Stapleton.

Ryan Gosling attracted Saturday Night Live‘s biggest audience in years.
The actor’s April 13 episode, which also featured musical guest Chris Stapleton, drew 8.9M viewers after seven days, according to NBCUniversal. In the 18 to 49 demo, the episode is up to a 2.0 rating.
That’s the show’s largest seven-day audience since Billie Eilish hosted in December 2021, and it’s the best demo performance since Dave Chappelle’s last hosting gig in November 2022.
In terms of streaming, NBCU says Gosling now lays claim to the most-watched episode of Saturday Night Live ever on Peacock.
Gosling and the SNL cast members couldn’t stop breaking character throughout the episode, which only added to the hilarity of the sketches — as proven by the 46M views that the episode’s sketches have gotten on YouTube (the most since 2020).

It’s a Comedy Night Done Right reunion.
Steve Carell, star of “The Office,” will join previously announced Tina Fey, creator and star of “30 Rock,” in “The Four Seasons,” a Netflix comedy series based on the 1981 film of the same name. The streaming service announced Carell’s casting on Wednesday.
Fey and Carell previously starred in the 2010 comedy “Date Night,” in which they played a married couple. Their characters in “The Four Seasons” have not yet been announced.
The film follows three couples who go on quarterly vacations together, where the stresses and joys of marriage get magnified, especially after one of the men leaves his wife for a younger woman and begins bringing her on the trips. We live in a society that insists if you work hard, you can probably achieve the goals you've set for yourself. But "Problemista," the first feature film by writer and comedian Julio Torres, which is now in theaters worldwide, poses the question: is working hard always enough? Loosely based off of Torres's own immigration experience, the film follows Alejandro, an aspiring toy designer from El Salvador struggling to make his dream a reality in New York City who loses his job and desperately needs to secure a sponsor to stay in the States. Even after taking a freelance assistant gig with an erratic art critic named Elizabeth (played by Tilda Swinton), Alejandro (played by Torres) finds himself in one of the most relentless and nightmarish mazes of American bureaucracy - the US immigration system.

Steve Carell is ready for a vacation after lending his dulcet tones to Illumination’s Despicable Me 4 and John Krasinski’s upcoming family comedy If. The Four Seasons, a retread of the 1981 Universal movie of the same name, is a co-creation between Fey, her 30 Rock co-star Lang Fisher, and Tracey Wigfield. Details about Carell’s character remain a mystery, though the cast list for Alan Alda’s 1981 comedy could provide some clues. In 1981’s The Four Seasons, three couples vacation together every season. After one couple divorces, feelings of betrayal and more spawn criticisms of one another, but the things that keep them together are stronger than those that might tear them apart. In a previous statement, Henson’s family gave the documentary their blessing, saying, “It will be thrilling to see the story that emerges from these materials in the hands of a truly great filmmaker like Ron Howard, who has the perfect spirit and personality to tell Jim Henson’s story.”
Howard also produced Idea Man with Brian Grazer under their Imagine Entertainment banner. Sara Bernstein, Margaret Bodde, Justin Wilkes, Mark Monroe, and Christopher St. John also served as producers.

[Editor’s note: The following interview contains minor spoilers for “The Fall Guy.”]
David Leitch’s “The Fall Guy” has it all. Drama, action, romance, Taylor Swift. As the film’s Super Bowl trailer delighted in telling potential audience members, the upcoming Ryan Gosling- and Emily Blunt-starring feature is packed with a little something for everyone. And, yes, that includes Gosling crying to Taylor Swift’s “All Too Well” during one of the film’s funniest (and most emotional) sequences, one that’s on full display in that second trailer.
But it wasn’t always going to be Swift’s song that made Gosling’s character cry. During a recent interview with producer Kelly McCormick (who is also Leitch’s wife), she revealed to IndieWire there was another choice on the table.
“It wasn’t actually [always going to be a Swift song], but it wasn’t going to be the song that we were playing [during shooting], because it was not right for their romance,” McCormick told IndieWire.

The Curse began with an actual curse, or at least the threat of one. When Nathan Fielder first moved from Canada to L.A. in 2009, a woman approached him on the street asking for a handout. He told her he had no money. She replied, “I curse you.”
That anecdote, described by Fielder to pal Benny Safdie, was the seed for one of the most startling and innovative shows in recent memory. Fielder, whose spins on reality TV in shows like HBO’s The Rehearsal have earned him a devoted fan base (Christopher Nolan among them), and Safdie (who, with brother and ex-directing partner Josh, made Uncut Gems) cooked up a bitter black comedy that in part skewered HGTV programming. The duo cast themselves as childhood friends — one of them, Asher Siegel (Fielder), a nebbish, budding reality star burdened with a micropenis — making a pilot about a couple trying to...

When someone drops an F-bomb on Saturday Night Live, it’s generally pretty newsworthy. But for some viewers, “the ‘Gd’ term” is equally offensive.
That’s the lesson Brooke Germain, an editor at The Nevada Sagebrush, learned when she filed a Freedom of Information Act request to receive all complaints that the FCC had received about SNL going back to the start of 2023. She has since posted the full file to the public records platform MuckRock—and, well, there’s a common theme.
In January of 2023, Colin Jost joked on “Weekend Update” that while Joe Biden and Donald Trump were embroiled in very different classified document scandals, both “made Hillary Clinton want to blow her Goddamn brains out.”
A viewer from Cumming, Georgia, emailed the FCC:
“Please note watching Saturday Night Live 01/21-22/23 over the air on Wxia 11 Atlanta, Ga the ‘Gd’ term was used, and I am not ok with this to begin with.

In a new interview, Maya explained why having famous parents didn’t help boost her comedy career.
Keep reading to find out more…“They were musicians. They weren’t actors,” Maya shared on the Armchair Podcast.
“My trajectory was, I wanted to go to New York, and I wanted to be on Saturday Night Live,” Maya explained. “I understand that drive to be somewhere else — forage in a new city and create my own path. But that’s a huge undertaking. I wasn’t like, ‘Oh my dad writes songs, that’s gonna make me a comedian.’ There was no direct line. I knew I had to get there myself.

Ryan Gosling is opening up about how Eva Mendes and their two daughters serve as a north star for him in his life.
In a Men’s Health cover story with The Fall Guy director David Leitch, the Barbie actor and Bullet Train filmmaker were asked if they have a motto they live by or a north star that guides their decisions.
Gosling explained that he doesn’t really have a motto, but will find himself thinking about his deathbed when faced with a decision, saying that considering what will matter then is what helps him choose the best thing for him.
“It puts things into perspective,” the three-time Oscar nominee told the publication. “It always comes back to family first. I don’t think I’ll regret anything professionally, but I do think when it comes to Eva and the girls, they come first.”

Padma Lakshmi’s post-Top Chef career may veer further into comedy, as the popular former host of the hit reality competition show shops around a comedy series script and continues to host her stand-up comedy night in Brooklyn.
In a wide-ranging and revealing New Yorker profile, out on Tuesday, Lakshmi tells writer Helen Rosner that the series was developed with Bridesmaids and Spy director Paul Feig, adding that it is a “hard comedy,” but declining to share its title or more about the show’s pitch. Lakshmi plans to produce and star in the series, she told the magazine.
Lakshmi has managed to become a household name, or at least an icon of the sensual potential of food, over her two decades as host of Bravo’s Top Chef. She exited the reality competition series in 2023 after 19 seasons, she said, “after much soul searching.” Kristen Kish filled her shoes...

The Daily Show, Saturday Night Live, The Tonight Show and Jimmy Kimmel were all winners this morning as The Webby Awards named its 2024 recipents.
Late-night shows and hosts had been nominated in 16 categories this year. All told, only six of those categories went without a late-night program winning either the Webby or People’s Voice Award.
Three late-night shows were named academy-voted Webby Award winners. SNL won in the Video, Events & Live Streams category for its Monologue Live Stream. The Daily Show won two — its “Patriot Hammer” video for Best Writing, and its YouTube Channel for Best Variety Series or Channel. The latter simultaneously took home a People’s Voice Award. And Jimmy Kimmel Live!’s YouTube Channel won in a different category: Best Web Personality/Host.

Since 2009, Taylor Swift and Kanye West have been locked in one of the tensest battles in celebrity history. They mostly stayed out of each other’s ways after their first, infamous, televised moment together until a public reconciliation in 2015 made it seem like all of that was just water under the bridge. But who knew the worst was yet to come?
Things between Swift and West would not only worsen immensely in 2016, after West released his song “Famous,” but their web would soon entangle Kim Kardashian, Scooter Braun, and even Justin Bieber.

But he’s arguably best known as Agent Don Self from Prison Break.

On September 15, 1965, Irwin Allen whisked television viewers out of their living rooms on a journey to the outer reaches of space, where the Robinson family finds themselves marooned on a strange, not-entirely-hospitable planet thanks to the sabotage of their chief medical officer. For a nation dreaming of a seemingly impossible moon landing, "Lost in Space" was both wish fulfillment and cautionary tale; a part of us was enthralled by the notion of exploring the cosmos, but we were also terrified by the thought of aimlessly hurtling through a universe with no known end and no direction home.
Allen's series didn't dwell much on the more frightening aspects of the Robinsons' predicament. Unlike Gene Roddenberry's "Star Trek" (which would debut a year later), Allen employed a fairly rigid formula that found the Robinsons and the hunky Major Don West (Mark Goddard) having to outwit the generally inept scheming of Dr.

At the beginning of April, country musician Morgan Wallen was arrested in Nashville, Tennesee, for launching a chair from the six-story roof of Chief’s Bar. At 11 p.m. on a Sunday, two Nashville police officers saw the chair fall to the ground from the top of the building. Wallen was arrested for reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct.
Following his arrest, Wallen’s attorney, Worrick Robinson, said Wallen was “cooperating fully with authorities.”
Wallen has now spoken out about his actions that night. On Friday, the country artist posted to X, “I didn’t feel right publicly checking in until I made amends with some folks. I’ve touched base with Nashville law enforcement, my family, and the good people at Chief’s. I’m not proud of my behavior, and I accept responsibility.”
“I have the utmost respect for the officers working every day to keep us all safe.

Saturday Night Live skits have given us some of the funniest and most enjoyable movies of their eras. Ok, there aren’t many – we’re really mostly talking about The Blues Brothers, the Wayne’s World double feature and MacGruber – but what’s there is choice comedy. On the other side, we have crap like It’s Pat, The Ladies Man and Stuart Saves His Family, all proving that just because something works for five minutes doesn’t mean it can sustain 90. Take another recurring skit, Debbie Downer, for another example, who Rachel Dratch turned into a signature character in more than a half-dozen appearances. Thankfully such a movie never happened – something that Dratch is perfectly fine with.
Speaking with ComicBook.com, Rachel Dratch recognized that while the character stands as one of her greatest contributions to SNL, she just wouldn’t have the legs to make it on the big screen.

“Family Guy” creator and executive producer Seth MacFarlane shared insight at PaleyFest on whether or not the Griffin family will ever make it to the big screen in a full-length feature film. The show’s cast also brought the house down Friday with a live table read of upcoming episode “The Edible Arrangement” and nine performances of musical classics from the series as the show celebrates its 25th anniversary.
Without giving too much of the goodness away, the episode the cast did a table read for — written by Travis Bowe — is titled “The Edible Arrangement.” It’s centered on Lois and Stewie bonding after consuming a few of Brian’s weed-infused gummies. The episode features the first time Lois has ever heard Stewie talk, which provides Stewie with the perfect opportunity to tell her all about his old plot to murder her.

Saturday Night Live turned in some comedy gold with a recent Beavis and Butt-Head sketch.
And the segment was so funny that the host and several cast members broke into laughter on live television.
The Beavis and Butt-Head sketch has gone viral, partially because of how good host Ryan Gosling was in the part. But the humor was also elevated by several cast members breaking character.
Sometimes, an SNL sketch can break down if the people in it can’t stick to their characters. But other times, having the host break character can add to viewer enjoyment.
Ryan Gosling is someone already known for breaking character on SNL. He has done it in the past, and it happened again several times during other sketches on the April 13 episode.
But one person kept it together during the Beavis and Butt-Head sketch – Saturday Night Live veteran Kenan Thompson.

The Papyrus font is still haunting Ryan Gosling, who faced his fears once again in the new live sketch of Saturday Night Live released this weekend. The font was used in James Cameron’s mega-successful franchise, Avatar which released its sequel two years ago. The 2017 Papyrus SNL video was a huge hit, which showed Ryan Gosling’s Steven Wingdings, who is bothered by the fact that the movie used that basic font for its logo.

Just as SNL returns with the Papyrus sequel, an old video of Cameron re-emerges where he acknowledges Gosling’s hilarious font obsession.

Is “SNL” new tonight? No. NBC’s late night sketch comedy series is taking a few weeks off, but it will return on Saturday, May 4 with host and musical guest Dua Lipa. The entertainer previously served as the musical guest to Natalie Portman in 2018 and to Kristen Wiig in 2020, but this will be her first time as host.
The regular cast members for “Saturday Night Live” Season 49 are, in credits order: Michael Che, Mikey Day, Andrew Dismukes, Chloe Fineman, Heidi Gardner, James Austin Johnson, Punkie Johnson, Colin Jost, Ego Nwodim, Sarah Sherman, Kenan Thompson and Bowen Yang. The featured players are: Marcello Hernandez, Molly Kearney, Michael Longfellow, Chloe Troast and Devon Walker. In a move of solidarity, none of the cast members from last year’s strike-truncated 48th cycle have departed.

Molly Shannon just might be HBO’s newest muse. As Deadline reports, the Emmy-nominated actress is set to star in an as-yet-untitled new comedy series for the cable network, which will be written by her former Saturday Night Live colleague Steve Koren. The duo will co-executive produce the new series.
As far as the plot goes, Deadline writes that Shannon will play a woman who is “deeply addicted to celebrity news and gossip. After friends and family finally confront her, she agrees to get help. Where? The same place where the stars get help—a fancy celebrity rehab in Malibu.”
Think of it as immersion therapy, Hollywood-style. Once there, Shannon’s character actually gets the chance to meet the celebrities she’s only read about—and manages to befriend a famous young actress who encourages her to ditch her family and follow her back to L.A.

Next week is shaping up to be particularly quiet one in late night, with The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Late Night With Seth Meyers, and Saturday Night Live still on an extended Spring break, and The Late Show With Stephen Colbert set to join them.
That will leave just three shows producing new episodes: Jimmy Kimmel Live!, The Daily Show, and After Midnight.
That’s not to say that the others will be out on the beach drinking Mai Tais. Jimmy Fallon and Seth Meyers were both in Los Angeles this past week participating in promotional events for their shows, and Colbert will be following in their footsteps Sunday, as he and The Late Show team are scheduled to talk up their show at LA’s Dolby Theater as part of this year’s PaleyFest.
Meanwhile, at least a half dozen SNL cast members are out on the road.

Saturday Night Live veterans Molly Shannon and Steve Koren (Superstar, A Night at the Roxbury) are again joining forces for a new comedy currently in development at HBO, our sister site Deadline reports.
Koren will pen the project starring Shannon as a woman deeply addicted to celebrity news and gossip who finally agrees to get help after her friends and family stage an intervention. But she checks into a fancy celebrity rehab center in Malibu, which she treats more like a stay at the Four Seasons rather than a place to confront her demons.

One of the most impressive parts of the April 13 episode of “Saturday Night Live” was Kenan Thompson’s ability not to break during the hilarious “Beavis and Butt-Head.” During the episode, a NewsNation anchor (Heidi Gardner) attempts to interview a professor (Thompson) about AI, but the conversation is interrupted when Thompson’s professor notices that two audience members, played by host Ryan Gosling and Mikey Day, look exactly like Beavis and Butt-Head.
While Gardner and Gosling couldn’t help but laugh through the duration of the sketch — which has been viewed more than 10 million times on YouTube in the five days since its air — Thompson somehow kept a straight face.
That was because he broke so hard during dress rehearsal, he tells Variety.
“It’s hit or miss. Sometimes I can hold it, sometimes I can’t. I got lucky on ‘Beavis and Butt-Head’ that I cracked so hard at dress rehearsal,...
