Christopher McQuarrie is said to be directing a remake of the 1977 Clint Eastwood thriller The Gauntlet, with Scarlett Johansson and Tom Cruise circling.
It’s coming up on a couple of years now since Christopher McQuarrie hinted that he and Tom Cruise would continue working together beyond the next two Mission: Impossible films, both of which were yet to be unveiled to the world at that point.
McQuarrie didn’t give too much away at the time, simply telling the Light The Fuse podcast that “it’s kind of under wraps. It has neither a fuse nor a fuselage. Oh that’s not true. It does have some fuselages. It’s something we’ve talked about for a really long time. It’s way outside of what you’re used to seeing Tom do. It’s the kind of stuff I really love. It’s a little bit more in my wheelhouse.

According to GiantFreakinRobot, Tom Cruise is rumoured to star in a remake of Clint Eastwood’s The Gauntlet, which Christopher McQuarrie will direct. Other scoopers, such as EmpireCity, have added that Scarlett Johansson will be starring alongside Cruise, which would mark the first time the two actors have worked together.
Nothing has been officially announced, so take all of this with a grain of salt for now, but both Tom Cruise and Scarlett Johansson have previously stated that they would love to work together. At the premiere of Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning, Cruise was certain that it would happen. “Look, I’ve watched her career her whole life,” Cruise said. “She’s enormously talented, very charismatic. It’d be fun. She could do everything. She could do comedy, drama, action, suspense. She’s someone that really draws you in on the screen, on camera. So absolutely, it’s gonna happen.

Trishelle Cannatella is fresh off a major reality TV competition win, following up her lack of wins on The Challenge with a victory on The Traitors 2.
She and fellow MTV star Chris “Ct” Tamburello closed out the show’s second season with the shared win after voting out castmate Mercedes “Mj” Javid at the firepit.
That earned them a prize total of over $200,000 and bragging rights for The Challenge as one of the top reality competition programs on TV.
Viewers haven’t seen competitors from The Challenge cross into other reality TV worlds, but Johnny Bananas seemed to open the door when he went on the debut of E!’s new show House of Villains.
He followed it up by appearing on The Traitors 2 with Trishelle and Ct but had an early exit from the game.

Two MTV legends have made it to the season finale of The Traitors 2.
Long before Trishelle Cannatella and Chris “Ct” Tamburello joined the Peacock reality competition show, they had careers on MTV.
Trishelle appeared on The Real World: Las Vegas in 2002 and spun that into numerous appearances on The Challenge.
Trishelle appeared on The Gauntlet, The Inferno, Battle of the Seasons, Rival II, and All Stars I. She even made it to the finals of Battle of the Seasons.
Ct got his stars on The Real World: Paris before dipping his toe into the world of reality competition shows.

As Hollywood agencies and production companies increasingly turn to artificial intelligence to evaluate screenplays, a group of writers and creatives have come together to design a so-called barrier against the incursion.
Shane Black (“Iron Man 3”), Jim Herzfeld (“Meet the Parents”) and Akela Cooper (“M3GAN”) are among two dozen industryites who collaborated on the development of a new tech platform, dubbed the Gauntlet, in an effort to keep humans assessing screenplays at the gate-keeper stage rather than AI.
ScriptHop, a Hollywood tech company founded by former UTA story department head Scott Foster and tech entrepreneur Brian Austin, is launching the Gauntlet Tuesday with 30 freelance script analysts from such high-profile companies as HBO and Lucasfilm, becoming the largest organized group of professional readers in the industry.
ScriptHop advisory board member and screenwriter Herzfeld came up with the idea that sees screenwriters pay a $380 fee to run their script through a “gauntlet” of professional story analysts.

Nearly 40 years after he made his big screen debut with a brief appearance in the James Bond picture “A View to a Kill,” Dolph Lundgren is still best known as an actor thanks to a series of iconic roles in ’80s and ’90s favorites like “Rocky IV,” “Masters of the Universe,” and “Universal Soldier.” (More recently he’s been a fixture in the “Expendables” and “Aquaman” franchises.) Yet for the past couple of decades, Lundgren has been quietly forging a side career as an accomplished writer and director of low-budget action films, movies that belie their limited resources in ambition and craftsmanship. Like the scrappy genre directors of Hollywood’s past — filmmakers like Budd Boetticher, Sam Fuller, and Don Siegel — Lundgren uses the creative freedom of lower budgets to smuggle his personal obsessions and stylistic preoccupations into accessible entertainments that are as intelligent as they are lively.

In the UK in the 1990s, bodybuilding was a freak pursuit – the domain of weirdos who painted themselves with Ronseal and stretched tiny Lycra hammocks across acres of skin the texture of an Arbroath Smokie in an attempt to resemble Marvel’s The Thing. Nobody knew what a deltoid was. Or a protein window. Fit people were the ones who played a weekly game of five-a-side before the pub. Fake tan smelt of biscuits, and even Sporty Spice didn’t have abs.
When Gladiators first arrived on TV then, its stars were curios. We only saw people like them once a year, pulling a truck on The World’s Strongest Man or being gawped at by Clive James on Television. These demigods with 19 inch biceps and thighs the size of dustbins didn’t walk among us.

Actor Clint Eastwood has starred in a variety of movies, but was once mostly known for action films like Dirty Harry. Still, the filmmaker wasn’t afraid of branching out in his younger years. But when he did a film that was too unlike his typical work, his inner circle panicked.
Everyone thought Clint Eastwood was making a big mistake doing this feature Clint Eastwood | Axelle/Bauer-Griffin/FilmMagic
After building his reputation as an action star, Eastwood wanted to experiment with other genres. To do this, he began eyeing the feature Every Which Way but Loose. The 1978 movie was a huge departure from Eastwood’s usual work. The veteran actor played a trucker and part-time fighter with a pet orangutan named Clyde. Although it had action elements, it functioned heavily as a comedy, targeting a much younger audience than Eastwood’s films were used to.

BMX legend Tj Lavin has hosted The Challenge since 2005 for season 11’s The Gauntlet. However, the cyclist almost didn’t return after season 30’s Dirty 30. The MTV presenter recently detailed the story behind his brief departure from the franchise.

Rob Zombie evokes a ... let's say passionate response from film-goers. His fans love him for all the wild swings he takes and his detractors feel just as passionately about the quality of said swings. However, if there's one thing most can agree on it's that his sophomore effort, 2005's "The Devil's Rejects," is the best movie.
"The Devil's Rejects" stands apart from the rest of his filmography, thanks mostly to its throwback style, rooted heavily in the 1970s. All his work has some influence from that era of horror, but what makes "The Devil's Rejects" different from, say, "Halloween" is that Zombie pulled from more than just the horror genre. Like just about every movie Zombie has made, "Rejects" has a good amount of "The Texas Chain Saw Massacre" in its DNA, but Zombie also decided if he was going to do a sequel to his divisive and super gnarly...

Eternals arrived at the Marvel Cinematic Universe table with a grandiose cosmic tale involving immortal titans and celestial beings, bearing stakes consequential to the very nature of the world. Yet, since the film represents an entirely unseen avenue of a vast canon consisting of 25 films and several television shows, one had to wonder how it would fit into a timeline in which Thanos used the Infinity Gauntlet to reduce half the population of the universe to dust, only to be revived five years later.
Well, a seemingly definitive answer has come straight from the source, director Chloé Zhao.
Zhao, who came into the project off breakthrough Oscar-winning success earlier this year with Nomadland, has certainly chosen one of the most grandiose platforms for a Marvel debut, resulting in the necessary reconciliation of unavoidable events, notably Thanos’s infamous Snap in Avengers: Infinity War. We always knew Supergirl‘s Lena Luthor (Katie McGrath) was a force to be reckoned with, but an actual witch? Ok, we’re listening! In the past few weeks, our favorite Luthor has been investigating her late biological mother’s past and come up with some interesting information about Mama Walsh. Mostly that she was part of a coven up in Newfoundland that had some serious magical chops. Unfortunately for the abusive dude they accidentally offed, those powers were stronger than the ladies realized. But for the Super Friends, the abilities Lena can access by accepting her legacy could be the thing that helps them finally stop evil imp Nyxly (Peta Sergeant). After all, only magic can beat magic. The CW In this exclusive clip from the September 28 episode, “The Gauntlet,” Lena is seen communicating with Vita, a blast from the show’s past— one of the dark priestesses who...

The following article contains spoilers for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
With Black Widow set largely in the past, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is technically the feature film kickoff to Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With the exception of the end credits scenes, it’s the first Phase 4 feature set in the aftermath of the Thanos Snap or Blip, and it introduces a set of characters and a region of the MCU that we have not yet explored.
But like every Marvel movie, Shang-Chi also includes two scenes at the end — one in the middle of the credits, and one at the tail — and unusually, both offer important and possibly critical information for the future of the MCU. Often the very last scene tends to be a joke or a sight gag of some kind; that’s not the case this time.

The best character from Army of the Dead is getting a spinoff in Army of Thieves and we’re all here for more Ludwig Dieter content.
“Safe-cracker Ludwig Dieter is back and taking center stage in the prequel/spinoff of Army of the Dead. Titled Army of Thieves, it tells Dieter’s story before he entered a zombie-infested Las Vegas. Back then, he was just a small-town safe-cracking expert, but he must’ve been known in the safe-cracking circles because he gets recruited by a mysterious woman who’s been watching him, named Gwendoline, played by Nathalie Emmanuel, who’s known for her starring role in Game of Thrones.”

Thanos (much like the Incredible Hulk) is a Threat 6 character in Atomic Mass’s Crisis Protocol game. Unlike Hulk, however, Thanos is a newer release and comes with a variant designed for play in the “normal” game as well as offering players the first “Ultimate Encounter” variant, which is considerably tougher. Think of these two variants as Thanos before he assembles the Infinity Gauntlet and Thanos after he has achieved his ultimate goal. In the former variant, Thanos plays like any other character – in the latter, he is almost invincible and can only be defeated by two “Crisis Teams” with a combined total of 36 Threat among them, allowing for a special two to three player-game.
Let’s cover the Thanos model itself, before we go into detail around either of his in-play variants. This is a big-box expansion, and Thanos himself is a medium sized model on a medium base – making him smaller than Hulk,...

This article contains Loki episode 5 spoilers.
Lots of major superheroes and supervillains have those moments that they just can’t live down. Those obscure situations that are always brought up for a laugh. There’s Batman’s inability to get rid of a bomb or his exclamation of, “Why Did You Say That Name?!” Spider-Man’s time on Broadway is a joke that will never stop being funny. Captain America once got sad because a reporter yelled at him for not having a MySpace page. Superman once shook hands with Jared from Subway. Deadpool was a mouthless Baraka that one time. Magneto was once tricked by a wooden gun and was so broken up about it that he forgot he had powers.

Buddy Van Horn, Director of Clint Eastwood’s ‘Any Which Way You Can’ and ‘The Dead Pool,’ Dies at 92
Wayne “Buddy” Van Horn, Clint Eastwood’s longtime stunt double and sometimes director, died on May 11, according to an obituary from the Los Angeles Times on Sunday. He was 92.
Van Horn served as stunt coordinator on Eastwood’s films from 1972 to 2011, including “The Enforcer,” “The Gauntlet” and “Sudden Impact.” He also served as second unit director on Eastwood’s “Magnum Force” before taking on full directing duties on 1980’s “Any Which Way You Can,” 1988’s “The Dead Pool,” the fifth and final appearance of Eastwood’s iconic character, “Dirty” Harry Callahan, and then 1989’s “Pink Cadillac.”
A skilled horseman from a young age, Van Horn loved to tell stories of riding his pony for miles in the valleys and canyons surrounding North Hollywood as a kid. His rugged skillset earned him a gig riding horses as an extra in westerns. However, on the set of his second film, Van Horn...

With the recently released Cyber Shadow, publisher Yacht Club Games (the studio behind the brilliant Shovel Knight) prove that they’re the masters of revitalizing those brutally difficult Nes games that defined an era and haunt gamers to this day.
The absurd difficulty of the average Nes game can be attributed to a variety of factors, but the fact remains that there’s a reason the term “Nes Hard” exists in the gaming lexicon. The hardest Nes games weren’t just difficult: they were nightmarish excursions into another world where demands for perfect inputs met fundamentally unforgiving (and sometimes simply terrible) game design.
Those are the games we’re going to look at today. Some are good, some are bad, but for one reason or another, these are the absolute hardest Nes games ever made.

Avengers: Endgame featured every Marvel hero around coming together to defeat Thanos for its big final act. Well, almost every Marvel hero. One who was conspicuous by their absence was Vision, who wasn’t brought back with the rest of those killed off in Avengers: Infinity War as he was personally offed by the Mad Titan rather than by the Infinity Gauntlet. So, how does WandaVision star Paul Bettany feel about missing the biggest MCU crossover ever?
While promoting his incoming Disney Plus series, Bettany was asked this very question and the English actor admitted that he was actually Ok with it because he always knew the full story of the two-part mega event going in, as the whole arc was explained to him by Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige prior to filming on Iw.

There are only two months left to go in this truly hellish year and relatively new streaming service HBO Max is trying to make the best of them. While most other streamers recover from Halloween and get prepared for Christmas, HBO Max is using November 2020 to fill out its servers.
Things are pretty light not the new original series front this month with only Industry (Nov. 9) and His Dark Materials season 2 (Nov. 16) making a splash. But the streamer has a couple of notable original films to complement them. Between the World and Me, based on the book by Ta-Nehisi Coates, arrives on Nov. 21 and Melissa McCarthy comedy Superintelligence arrives on Nov. 26. That’s not even to mention two intriguing projects that don’t have dates yet: The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air Reunion Special and The Mystery of Db Cooper.

As it’s both the end of the month and the beginning of November, the likes of Netflix, Disney Plus, HBO Max, Hulu and Prime Video are adding a mix of seasonal movies and TV shows today and tomorrow, and a whole load of freshly licensed titles on Sunday.
First of all, Netflix is dropping five new originals this Friday, October 30th, including a couple of horrors, like The Day of the Lord and His House. Disney Plus, meanwhile, debuts The Mandalorian‘s season 2 premiere today, along with a new episode of The Right Stuff and Nicolas Cage movie The Sorcerer’s Apprentice. You’ve heard of The Purge, now here’s The Binge, a satirical teen comedy with a similar set-up to the horror franchise, only focused on drugs and alcohol. As such, it has a great comic cast and delivers a number of decent laughs, though there’s also a strong sense of missed opportunity.
Set in the not-too-distant future, The Binge imagines a world where drugs and alcohol have been outlawed, except for one 12 hour period each year, a night known as The Binge. Over footage of real-life drunken incidents, a narrator who sounds a lot like Morgan Freeman (but is actually Josh Robert Thompson) tells us that the science is sound – after binging on drugs and alcohol for the first time,...

Kenya Barris has a lot on his plate already with three comedies in the “ish” universe already airing, as well as #BlackAF on Netflix (not to mention his overall deal to create new content with the streamer in general) — so what made him want to deliver a fourth “ish” series in “Old-ish,” starring “Black-ish’s” Laurence Fishburne and Jenifer Lewis?
“Everyone’s been wanting to see Pop and Ruby together because they’re basically together anyway,” Barris said during a virtual panel for “Black-ish’s” upcoming season on Tuesday. “It’s the weirdest divorce I’ve ever seen in my life. And truthfully in real life there is a huge recurrence of second time around in the older demographic…people are living longer and having experiences later in life, and it was just finding something that we felt we could tell a good story [about], that fit with the brand and what we’re doing.

HBO Max is set to enter into its second month of existence. And you know what that means: it’s Christmas in July!
HBO Max’s list of new releases for July 2020 is highlighted by one prominent Christmas movie: last year’s Emilia Clarke-starring Last Christmas. But the real cause for Christmas in July is all the exciting animated DC content coming our way on the first of the month. July 1 sees the arrival of just about every animated Batman project ever created. July 1 also features the arrival of just about every Justice League animated series ever created as well.
If that weren’t enough, July 1 is also when every live-action Superman movie (save for Man of Steel) makes it streaming debut. July is starting to look like a month where HBO Max establishes its real potential and geek culture bonafides…despite an at-times difficult rollout.

When HBO Max launched last month, DC fans hoped it would be the premiere place to go to watch all their favorite DC content. While the streaming service did have an impressive array of films and TV shows available on launch, there were a lot of notable missing titles, too, due to pre-existing licenses getting in the way. As time goes on, though, more DC properties will end up on the site. Case in point: this July will see a whole heap of superhero content go up on HBO Max.

Niehaus’s two dozen films for Eastwood include original scores for the best picture-winning Western “Unforgiven,” the Charlie Parker biopic “Bird” and the popular romantic drama “The Bridges of Madison County.”
The two met in 1953 at California’s Fort Ord, when the two were in the Army during the Korean Conflict. “I used to play jazz jobs at one of the beer clubs on the base, and Clint was tending bar,” Niehaus wrote in an essay about the actor-director for his 1996 American Film Institute Life Achievement Award. “I used to go off post and play in a little jazz club in nearby Santa Cruz on Sunday afternoons, and he would be there.”

Cinematographer Jack N. Green is proof that nice guys sometimes finish first — even in Hollywood.
Born in 1939, the San Francisco native traveled a long-rising arc in his career, which includes distinguished stints shooting aerial sequences for documentaries and some of the most iconic films of the 1960s, eventually becoming director of photography on a run of Clint Eastwood movies and more recent comedies such as “The 40-Year-Old Virgin,” “Hot Tub Time Machine” and two “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” movies.
Green’s parents, Trudy and John Sr., had a shared fascination for photography and rigged up a home darkroom that made a strong artistic impact on their son.
Graduating from high school and barber college at 17, Green planned to make that job his career. But all that changed when he was befriended by shop regular Joe Dieves, a former World War II combat cameraman. Enamored of Dieves’ stories, Green soon joined him,...

Back we go the golden age of the drive-in, or at least what many see as the ideal time freeze of a continent; family values, mom and dad and the kids loading into the car for a wholesome night under the sky. But the most popular films on the outdoor screen were the horror movies, and those were hitting their very own genre idealism with Atomic Horror, led off by 1954’s Them!, which brought giant ants from their hills to Hollywood’s with resounding success. It was open season on gargantuan critters after that, and first out of the gate was Tarantula! (1955), melding together a larger than life spider with some mad scientist action to create a unique and fun addition to the canon.
As a matter of fact, Tarantula! stands as one of the best B’s from the era; solid performances and pretty damn great special effects help...

Iron Man made the ultimate sacrifice at the close of Avengers: Endgame. Despite knowing that he wouldn’t survive using the Infinity Gauntlet, he snapped his fingers anyways, wiping Thanos and his goons from existence. When the Infinity Stones are involved, though, death doesn’t seem so final and fans have since wondered why the Gauntlet couldn’t perhaps be used again to bring Tony Stark back.
Endgame scribes Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely spoke to The Hollywood Reporter recently to answer any lingering questions about the movie and they tackled this one head on. In this case, the writers clarified that Iron Man can’t be resurrected as the Gauntlet can only be used to bring back those artificially killed by it (see: the half of the universe reduced to dust by Thanos).
“The Gauntlet, as of yet, has not brought back anybody to life that wasn’t removed by the Gauntlet.

Summer break is fast approaching so it must be time for another toy “tie-in” feature animated flick. Well, to be honest, the “break’ thing shouldn’t matter since this subject’s “core” audience is probably “pre-pre-k” (guess that’s a thing). Early this year we saw the follow-up to the surprise hit The Lego Movie from 2014. So, how about another “property” that’s a tad more cuddly than those hard interlocking plastic blocks. We’re a few months away from the fourth visit with Woody, Buzz, and their pals so maybe this is a “softer warm-up” showcasing a toy line that’s been around since 2001 (that long…I am so out of it). And, going by the brand name, we may be in for a lesson or two with the big screen debut of Uglydolls.

Locke was an excellent actor, and serious-minded director, but became trapped by her involvement with Eastwood and subsequent legal disputes
Sondra Locke was an actor, producer, director and talented singer. But it was her destiny to be linked forever with Clint Eastwood, whose partner she was from the mid-1970s to the late 1980s. She was a sexy, charismatic performer with a tough, lean look who starred alongside Eastwood in hit movies like The Outlaw Josey Wales, The Gauntlet, Every Which Way But Loose (in which she sang her own songs — also for the sequel Any Which Way You Can) and Bronco Billy. But the pair became trapped in one of the most notoriously toxic relationships in Hollywood history, an ugly, messy and abusive overlap of the personal and professional — a case of love gone sour and mentorship gone terribly wrong.
