It’s a deceptively big month on Prime Video in September! To kick things off, The Wheel of Time will be back for a second season on the service, while a live-action The Boys spinoff series called Gen V will be capping off the original series content later in the month.
But there are also some interesting new projects lined up between those two biggies. On September 15, Jenna Coleman and Oliver Jackson-Cohen star in what is sure to be a delicious tale of revenge. Wilderness, based on B.E. Jones’ novel of the same name, stars Coleman as a heartbroken wife who discovers her husband has been cheating on her after she gives up her whole life to move over to America with him and support his career.

I think everybody’s just trying not to fall apart in some form,” says alt-soul singer Joesef with a nervous laugh. “It’s just who can hide it the best.” We’re sat on two ends of a giant sofa in his PR’s office in London, comparing stories on the qualms of “adulting”. The 27-year-old moved to the capital from Glasgow in 2021, but still romanticises the city in which he grew up. “There’s a certain level of togetherness that’s very palpable there,” he says in a thick Scottish accent, which is “worse” when he’s had a drink. “Everyone speaks to everyone”, says the singer. He can’t go to the shop without being stopped by five locals asking how his “ma” is. “I’m like, God, I’m just tryna’ get a loaf of bread!”

What do Nicolas Cage, Pedro Pascal, and a top-down convertible ride on a cliff in Majorca have to do with folk-rock legend Cass Elliot?
The answer — like most things nowadays — involves a new meme sweeping TikTok. Taken from a scene in the 2022 film The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, the short clip features a scowling Cage looking at a cheesing, completely unbothered, nothing-behind-the-eyes, Pascal — all set to the tune of Elliot’s 1969 song “Make Your Own Kind of Music.” Since February 2023, it’s become part of a meme on TikTok,...

During the Season 22 premiere of The Voice Monday night, all eyes were on rookie coach Camila Cabello, who made a fine and feisty addition to the bank of red swivel chairs. But all ears were on the first batch of contestants in the Blind Auditions. At least a couple of Girl Named Tom’s would-be successors stood out, with a couple more showing great promise. Although the question of which Wong Kar-wai film is the best could last eternally, for this particular writer, there is no doubt that “Chungking Express” stands on a level above the rest, with the recent restorations actually cementing the fact in the most eloquent fashion. Let us check the reasons why.
“Chungking Express” is streaming on Mubi Malaysia
Cop 223 has been rejected by his former girlfriend, May, on April Fool’s Day. Since then, he has been buying one can of pineapple every day with an expiration date of May 1, his birthday, and in an utterly baseless assumption, he believes that if she does not call by the time he has bought 30 cans, their love will expire. In this scenario, he will eat all the cans. Eventually, he meets a woman with a blonde wig who tries to solve her own, much more dangerous issues, and the two of them start sharing their solitude.

Los Angeles outfit Dirty Honey have released a new song, “California Dreamin’,” from their upcoming self-titled debut album, out April 23rd.
The song is a big riff rocker that finds singer Marc Labelle exploring the darker, more turbulent elements that lurk beneath the promises of the Golden State: “I’m California dreamin’” Labelle wails on the hook, “It’s tearing us apart/It’s paranoia season/It’s in our minds, in our hearts.”
“California Dreamin’” arrives with a music video, directed by Scott Fleishman, that further delves into the tensions presented in the song.

Cassadee Pope will release her new album, Rise and Shine, later this summer. Ahead of its August 7th arrival, the country-pop singer is releasing the tracks “Built This House” and “Let Me Go” on Friday.
Pope filmed a lyric video for the latter song, which premieres Thursday afternoon, a few hours before she hosts an online Q&a and performance for fans on her website. Unlike most lyric videos, the one for “Let Me Go” actually features the artist, who is shown sitting alone on stairs and strumming her guitar.

Sreylin Meas began her career in filmmaking as a film crew member in 2009. She has since worked on film and television productions, and “California Dreaming” is her first short film.
On the occasion of “California Dreaming” screening at Osaka Asian Film Festival, we talk with her about Anti-Archive, the inspiration behind the film and the title, the place of women in Cambodian society, and many other topics.
Can you tell us a bit about Anti-archive and how you got involved in it?
Anti-Archive was created among close friends who love making films so we can easily find funds to produce films. The goal is to make films that we want to make. I got involved with Anti-Archive even before it begun, through friends I had worked with on previous projects and who, then later, created the company.
What was the inspiration behind California Dreaming and how did you come up with the particular title?...

“Scales” (aka “Sayidat Al Bahr”), directed by Saudi Arabian first-time filmmaker, Shahad Ameen, was named as the best film in the Asian feature competition at the 30th edition of the Singapore International Film Festival.
The tale of a young girl who defies her village’s harsh and chauvinistic traditions to prove her worth, collected the festival’s Silver Screen Award on Saturday at a ceremony held in the National Museum of Singapore.
The blue carpet event welcomed local figures Boo Junfeng, Royston Tan, and Tan Pin Pin, as well as film industry officials Joachim Ng, and Howie Lau. Chinese acting star Yao Chen and Japanese director Miike Takashi were also present to pick up special awards. Let’s face it: Most horror made for TV isn’t really scary, is it? I mean, we talk about these shows or movies frightening us as kids, but we could say the same about watching a PG rated flick that contains a few good jolts or disturbing themes. The bottom line is a lot of things scare us as children, including real life. And every once in awhile, someone will come strutting along and boast of a TV movie from their youth that they insist is genuinely scary. And when they say genuine, they mean that it still casts a spell today, unvarnished by time. Well, having finally seen it for the first time, I can say that Don’t Go To Sleep (1982) fits the bill, offering up a few for real scares, a sense of unease, a clever teleplay, and an ending that’s still sticking to me like unwanted psychic residue.

Dorothy Tristan wrote and stars in the latest film from Academy Award® nominated director John Hancock,"The Looking Glass," set to open in New York at the Cinema Village, and in Los Angeles at the Fine Arts on October 23, 2015.
“I was very moved by the film. Dorothy gives an extremely touching performance, one that is definitely worthy of an Academy Award nomination,” said film critic Kathleen Carroll.
The official synopsis reads: "After losing her mother, troubled 13-year-old Julie must go to Indiana to live with her grandmother, Karen. Karen, a former star of stage and screen, now facing the end of her life, wants desperately to connect with her granddaughter in a meaningful way and pass on all she knows before it's too late. But the two of them—each stubborn in her own way—butt heads at every turn. Soon, Karen makes a remarkable discovery: Julie’s powerful, unique singing voice. Will the sudden discovery of Julie’s talent be enough to bring the two together and allow Karen to pass on her legacy? This beautifully shot film shows a tenderness in its treatment of family matters such as depression and low self-esteem. In watching the story unfold, the watcher is touched at the beauty and sadness of the rebellious young girl. Our hopes for her finding herself and allowing her voice to be shared with the world engages as the movie unfolds. This is the sort of film families with pre-teen and teen girls and boys would enjoy together. Then one talks of 'family entertainment,' this is the film that fits for a pleasurable movie day"
Married for forty years, "The Looking Glass" finds Dorothy Tristan and John Hancock collaborating for the seventh time. Since 1994, when their house was destroyed in the Malibu fire, they’ve been living and working in La Porte County, Indiana, and turning that little corner of the Midwest into a filmmaking hub.
Dorothy appeared in the director's “California Dreaming” and wrote “Steal the Sky,” “Weeds,” “A Piece of Eden” and “Suspended Animation.” She also did the final polish on Hancock's Christmas classic, “Prancer.” Tristan began her acting career in theatre, playing Charlotte Corday in the national touring production of “Marat/Sade.” She was Helena in “Midsummer Night’s Dream” and Lady Macduff in “Macbeth” at Stratford, Connecticut. She played Blanche Dubois opposite Jon Voight in “Streetcar Named Desire.” She had leading or supporting roles in a number of major motion pictures including “Klute,” “Man on a Swing,” and Aram Avakian’s “End of the Road” with James Earl Jones and Stacy Keach.
Hancock’s feature film credits include “Bang The Drum Slowly,” “California Dreaming,” “Let’s Scare Jessica to Death,” “Baby Blue Marine,” “Weeds,’ and the Christmas classic “Prancer,” starring Sam Elliott, Cloris Leachman, Abe Vigoda and Rebecca Harrell, which he shot "The Looking Glass" on his family’s fruit farm in Laporte County. His current production, , brings him home again, physically and emotionally. He says he “tried to catch the sense of returning to this place where you grew up, and falling in love with what you were not truly able to see before.
The story hits close to home for Hancock and Tristan. “Dorothy and I have reached a point in our lives where we’ve thought a lot about what we’ve accomplished, and what kind of legacy we hope to leave behind once we’re no longer here,” says Hancock, 76.
“You always hope you’ve had some type of impact on people, that what you did with your life meant something to people. That’s what this story is about: reaching out to those closest to you and imparting on them all your knowledge, all your life lessons so a part of you lives on.
“You’re preparing the next generation for greatness. That’s true not just for the characters in the film, but for Dorothy and me, that maybe we can inspire a new generation of filmmakers to create movies that mean something to people.”...

In the scenic photo, Kerr stands in front off the ocean and crashing waves as she walks along a brick road. The mother of one looks gorgeous in a lacy white dress that shows off her legs as her long brunette hair blows in the wind. "California dreaming," Kerr captioned the pic. Last week, when all the Bloom-Biber drama went down, Kerr was on vacation with family, including son Flynn. She posted one adorable shot of her and Flynn...

Frequent listeners of the Sound On Sight podcast would have heard me discuss my day job working with kids. For the unfamiliar, I am the director of a community center, and the coordinator of a summer camp here in Montreal. At the start of the summer, I was talking to my kids about music and I discovered that none of them knew what a mix tape was, much less an audio cassette – so, I decided it would be a good idea to make them some complications. Of course, I’m not recording these on actual cassettes, but nevertheless, they get the idea. As it turns out, the kids love it, and now that the storyline in Guardians of the Galaxy revolves around a mix tape, they keep asking me to make more. Here’s the most recent compilation I’ve produced following Making Time. This one is simply titled, Awesome Mix Tape Vol.

The blinds are over, the battles are done, and now we're here at the Voice knockouts! It's time to find out which stars from Team Kylie and Team Tom are going to make it into the all-important live shows, so they're all going to sing one by one before their coaches decide who to keep and who to brutally, coldly, heartlessly send packing. Fun!
Team Kylie
First up tonight, it's Team Kylie. She's feeling good about her "dynamic" team, while the team members themselves - Femi Santiago, Jade Mayjean Peters, Jai, Jamie Johnson, Lee Glasson, Leo Ihenacho and Rachael O'Connor - are just raving about how much they like each other. Yeah, we'll see how long that lasts when they're up against each other, eh? As for Kylie, she is "bricking it" about whittling them down. Let's get this thing going...

The complete list of Grid 2 achievements have been released this week and we have them here for your viewing pleasure.
When it comes to racing games, the Grid series is amongst the best. The first game offered a truly exciting and at times, exhilarating driving experience. The sequel, Grid 2, boasts exotics locations like Abu Dhabi and Paris and will also include cars from the past four decades. Additionally, Codemasters has also developed a new handling system which they are calling TrueFeel. They claim it will achieve the perfect balance between realism and accessibility. Hopefully they make good on that claim.
The game promises to push boundaries and offer gamers the purest racing experience yet. Judging by what the studio did with the first Grid, I see no reason to doubt them. There’s also a lot of buzz surrounding the re-imagined multiplayer mode, which has its own has its own...

It was ladies' night on American Idol Wednesday, as the fairer sex finally got their shot at Hollywood Week glory following a week devoted to the guys. First up, 162 ladies were put through the sudden-death a cappella round in order to win the opportunity to be assigned a group, stay up all night and try to pull off a polished, choreographed routine with Idol band accompaniment. An opportunity that all wanted desperately, of course! Instantly setting herself apart from the pack was Kez Ban, a husky-voiced singer with soulful leanings who more or less pleaded with her group to choose the Mamas & the Papas' "California Dreaming" as their performance song, saying she would...

It's been several months since last we heard anything about writer/director Susanna Lo's Manson Girls, which focuses on the period leading up to the 1969 murders of nine people by members of Charles Manson's "Family", but finally production has begun with a half dozen or so scenes being assembled into a "sizzle reel".
Per Variety the bulk of filming will take place early next year in Redlands, Joshua Tree, and San Francisco with a cast that includes Taryn Manning as Sadie Atkins; Tania Raymonde as Leslie Van Houten; Monica Keena as Squeaky Fromme; Stella Maeve as Linda Kasabian; Estella Warren as Catherine Share; Chad Faust as Tex Watson; Ron Jeremy as a porn director; Eric Balfour as Bobby Beausoleil; and Bill Moseley as Manson.

HollywoodLife.com caught up with the lovely Taylor Armstrong at the California Dreaming-A Fashion Celebration with a Cause in downtown Los Angeles Oct. 20 and she's doing better than after in the wake of her husband's suicide. Following her estranged husband Russell Armstrong's suicide in August, Taylor Armstrong has been living an emotional roller coaster. Not only was she left to raise their daughter, Kennedy, alone, the reality star was forced to recover in the spotlight, as her TV show, The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, began its second season. Despite all of these hurdles, Taylor told HollywoodLife.com she's feeling better and more whole as time goes on. "I am doing better everyday and so is my daughter, but it is a process," Taylor told us at the California Dreaming-A Fashion Celebration with a Cause in downtown Los Angeles Oct. 20. After Russell died, photos and accounts of his...

Quentin Tarantino is resurrecting the film careers of long forgotten actors he grew up watching in the 80′s on film and tv but who nobody has seen much of lately. After the recent casting of 80′s star Gerard McRaney for a small role in his spaghetti/black slavery western Django Unchained, Variety reports that the walking film historian has signed up Dennis Christopher for a role in his new movie.
Christopher was part of the Chariots of Fire cast that helped the 1981 movie win a Best Picture Oscar and starred in movies such as California Dreaming and Vernon Zimmerman’s cult horror/comedy Fade to Black. More recently he has appeared on Deadwood, the HBO western that co-star McRaney also was part of. Conceivably of course Tarantino may have become aware of both actors via that show… but we all know that like Chris Nolan these were the actors that...

This bit of news seems to have been brewing for a bit--we were recently tipped by a reader that he was in the running for a role--but now it's all official as Variety reports that Dennis Christopher has joined Quentin Tarantino's "Django Unchained." If you don't know who Christopher is, then you need to watch some movies made before 1990. The actor is probably best known for his starmaking turn in Peter Yates' "Breaking Away" but has earned his stripes in movies like the cult horror/comedy "Fade To Black," "California Dreaming," "Don't Cry It's Only Thunder" and of course, "Chariots…...

We're in Austin, Texas for the shank of this year's Fantastic Fest. If our preview chat with Tim League had you interested, be sure to hit refresh on this page over and over and over like a moon-eyed crazy person all day Sat, Sun and Monday for updates.
Friday 9/23/11
Fantastic Fest is already in full swing. I'm not there yet, but I'm flying in tonight. Last night I was all over Twitter to hear descriptions of The Human Centipede 2 (Full Sequence)'s pre-screening antics. An hour and a half later, I read virtually every critic say it was awful. (Though one or two defended it as "having something to say about obsessed fandom.")
As a jury member for this year's "features" division - which means full length movies that aren't straight-up horror movies - I've actually been able to get a sneak peek at some of the eight movies in competition.
