The X-Files reboot has garnered waves of enthusiastic anticipation, but the return of Gillian Anderson’s Dana Scully remains uncertain. The American actress performed alongside David Duchovny’s Fox Mulder in the sci-fi drama widely considered the most defining role in her storied career. The series follows Mulder and Scully as they investigate unsolved cases revolving around paranormal events. Aderson’s performance as a medical doctor and FBI special agent was so impactful it inspired many young women to pursue Stem-related careers. Termed “The Scully Effect,” this phenomenon is perhaps the most significant accomplishment of the iconic role. Anderson’s embodiment of the character

“The X-Files” creator Chris Carter is not involved in the upcoming reboot, which is being shepherded by “Black Panther” filmmaker Ryan Coogler. In a new interview with Inverse, Carter said he has no reservations about letting someone else put their stamp on his beloved franchise.
“It’s interesting, people say, ‘Aren’t you possessive of it?’ And I say, ‘No, I’m looking forward to seeing what somebody else does with it,’” Carter said, adding that he had a “really nice conversation” with Coogler when the latter first pitched his idea for an “X-Files” reboot to Fox.
“I just asked him what his ideas were, and he told me, and I said, ‘Those sound like good ideas,’” Carter said. “No matter what, he’s got a hard job. Casting is a hard job. Mounting it is a hard job. All the problems that I dealt with are going to be his problems.

Most of the buzzed-about network dramas of the 1990s have been largely forgotten these days.
ER and NYPD Blue might have been the talk of the town during the Clinton years, but in the Biden age, they're seldom discussed outside of retrospectives about what the cast members are up to these days.
Interestingly, the network shows from that era that have loomed largest in the public's memory are the ones that might broadly be described as "supernatural mysteries."
We're talking about Twin Peaks, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and, of course, The X-Files.
In fact, one could argue that no network drama from the past 30 years has proved as enduring and influential as the saga of Mulder and Scully.
The X-Files ran for nine seasons and inspired two feature films, a spinoff series (The Lone Gunmen), and a 2016 revival, with a second reboot rumored to be in the works courtesy of Black Panther director Ryan Coogler.

Jean Boht, the beloved star of long-running BBC sitcom “Bread” (1986-1991) died on Sept. 12. She was 91.
Boht’s family issued a statement on social media, saying: “It is with overwhelming sadness that we must announce that Jean Boht passed away yesterday Tuesday 12 September. Jean had been battling Vascular Dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease with the indefatigable spirit for which she was both beloved and renowned.” She was a resident at Denville Hall, the home for members of the theatrical profession.
Boht’s husband Carl Davis, the BAFTA-winning composer of “The French Lieutenant’s Woman,” died in August.
Boht trained at the Liverpool Playhouse and embarked on a career as a theater actor. Her television credits include “Softly, Softly” (1971), “Some Mothers Do ‘Ave ‘Em” (1978), “Grange Hill” (1978), “Last of the Summer Wine” (1978), “Boys from the Blackstuff” (1982), “Scully” (1984) and “Juliet Bravo” (1981-83). In 1993, Boht was one of the stars in “Brighton Belles,” the British remake of hit U.

Is the truth still out there? Do we still want to believe in 2022? Yes, says one pop culture fandom in particular, who even after facing many disappointments with the recent revival series, continue to clamor for more seasons of The X-Files. Creator Chris Carter may have wrapped up the four-part “My Struggle” saga that bookended seasons 10 and 11 but many folks still want more Fox Mulder and Dana Scully.
But despite the fact that the final episode of The X-Files (so far) ended on yet another frustrating cliffhanger, there has been virtually no movement on a season 12. Four years after Mulder and Scully said their goodbyes to television audiences (for the second time in this millennium), making another season of the hit paranormal drama seems easier said than done.
What will it take for The X-Files season 12 to get going and what’s stopped it from happening so far?

Amy Poehler is getting animated for Fox.
The “Parks and Recreation” star, who has been spending more time as an executive producer in recent years (“Broad City,” “Difficult People”), has paired with “The Simpsons” alums Mike and Julie Scully to develop a new animated half-hour series about a teenager with big aspirations
Fox has given a script-plus-presentation order to the show, which means a short pilot will be produced for series consideration.

Two decades ago, X-Files composer Mark Snow produced a compilation dubbed Songs in the Key of X: Music From and Inspired by the X-Files that included tunes by Nick Cave, Elvis Costello, P.M. Dawn and William S. Burroughs with R.E.M., among others. It also contained a cover of Gary Numan's echoey, new-wavey "Down in the Park" by some alt-rock upstarts calling themselves Foo Fighters, whose frontman was an X-Files megafan. That same year, he got the chance to appear on the show.

"Where I lived when I grew up, there was a fantastic actor called Andrew Schofield.
"He was in a TV series called Scully. It was actually about a young lad who wanted to play for Liverpool and he had these fantasies and daydreams about it. It was a comedy and it was written by Alan Bleasdale.
"Drew lived across the road from where my nana's house was, so I suppose seeing him as a kid made me realise that me being an actor was tangible, it was attainable.
"I could see that there was this man who was on TV and he was a brilliant actor, he was in great stuff like Boys from the Blackstuff and he was living nearby in my neighbourhood.
"That gave me the faith and the hope and belief that one day maybe I could be an actor. He was my hero as a kid.

Exclusive: The Simpsons veteran Mike Scully has signed a multi-year overall deal with 20th Century Fox TV. Under the seven-figure pact, he will join 20th TV’s upcoming Ryan Murphy-Ali Adler NBC comedy series The New Normal and will develop new live-action or animated projects for the studio. Additionally, Scully will continue his part-time gig working one day a week on The Simpsons where he has been for the past two decades. 20th TV chairman Dana Walden, who first joined the studio in 1992 said, “I can’t remember a time when Mike wasn’t part of one show or another at the studio.” After a decade as a full-time writer-producer on The Simpsons, Scully segued to development for 20th TV with several projects, including comedy pilot The Pitts, which Walden said she loved. He went on to work on shows elsewhere, including CBS’ Everybody Loves Raymond and NBC’s Parks & Recreation,...

Diane Haithman is contributing to Deadline’s TCA coverage. At today’s TCA panel on Fox’s new animated series Napoleon Dynamite, executive producer Mike Scully, also a longtime producer of The Simpsons, joked that the creative team behind Dynamite should be called “Two Mormons and an Atheist Productions.” That’s because Scully joins Jared Hess and wife Jerusha, the creative couple behind the 2004 cult film, in producing the TV series. The Hesses are Mormons; Scully is not. Although the long-running The Simpsons has a reputation for occasionally raunchy humor, Scully said he sees no conflict in working on Dynamite, which will maintain the movie’s clean, PG-rated family tone. The film’s original cast will voice the characters, including Jon Heder as Napoleon. “I learned on The Simpsons that the raunchy joke is the easiest one, or the pop culture joke,” Scully said. “It’s always fun if you...

"Napoleon Dynamite's" adaptation from cult movie classic to animated TV series has pretty much everything going for it -- a "Simpsons" writer at the helm, a stellar regular cast and a built-in fan base. And, at a Thursday (July 21) Comic-Con press conference, writer Mike Scully dished about four guest stars scheduled to appear in the show's first six-episode season.
"We've got Amy Poehler, Sam Rockwell, Jemaine Clement and Jennifer Coolidge," said Scully at a Comic-Con press conference promoting the upcoming Fox show.
The show already managed to sign all the principal actors from the movie -- from lead Jon Heder (Napoleon) to Jon Gries (Uncle Rico and "Lost's" Roger Linus) to Tina Majorino (Deb) and Efren Ramirez (Pedro). Even Sandy Martin (Grandma) -- like Majorino, a a "Big Love" alum -- and the multi-talented Diedrich Bader (Rex).

Are we all ready to go ahead and admit that despite all the backlash, Napoleon Dynamite was pretty damn funny? We are? Fantastic, because frankly, we're all good and ready for more non-jokes about ligers, what skills a man should have and shockingly competent dancing in an indeterminate time period.
Dyna-Heads (that's what we agreed to call ourselves at Napole-Con 2007) will have to wait until 2012 to see the new animated series based on the cult film, but we attended the Napoleon Dynamite panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2011 to hear from the film's stars Jon Heder, Tina Majorino, Efren Ramirez and more. Here's what we learned:
Ramirez opened the panel by speaking in his Pedro-voice to copious amounts of applause. The panel also featured Mike Scully (The Simpsons), who is the producer of the new show. Scully tried to play a voicemail from Jared and Jerusha Hess,...

To help celebrate Entertainment Weekly’s 20th anniversary (one more year and we can finally drink booze!), the writers and editors have carefully curated a list of the 100 greatest characters in pop-culture over the last 20 years. Whether the fictional women, men, ogres, muppets, babies, and cartoon rockers who made our list were initially created before 1990 didn’t matter so long as they made a lasting impact in the culture after 1990. Some characters were so inseparable in our minds and hearts — like a certain highly articulate TV mother and daughter, for example — that we simply listed them together. (Hey, it’s our list,...
