[To get you into the spooky spirit, the Daily Dead team is spotlighting double features that we think would be fun to watch this Halloween season. Check here for more double feature recommendations and other Halloween 2017 coverage.]
There’s nothing quite like an outside threat to bring a family together, especially when that threat is of the undead variety. Siblings may not always get along, but when your sister’s soul is sought by a coven of witches, or when your mom is eyed as an eternal bride by a coffin-dwelling creep, it’s time to take those Sister Sledge lyrics to heart and become a family that can overcome anything—including wicked spells and sharp fangs. Set on respective fateful nights where the future of a homestead hangs in the balance and its up to siblings to save it, Mom’s Got a Date with a Vampire and Hocus Pocus are family-friendly films that make for a great double feature during the Halloween season.

Dancing With the Stars professional dancer Jenna Johnson, now part of the dance troupe on the ABC series, is taking you behind the scenes of season 25. Last week's "Guilty Pleasure" night was a fun way to get to know the celebrities a bit better. I'll start by admitting that my guilty pleasure is the Food Network, especially Cupcake Wars. My sister and I started a cupcake business in high school because of Cupcake Wars. I'm obsessed with watching what flavors they put together and how they decorate the cute little cupcakes. As for the celebs, I loved learning that Drew Scott is into forensics because I have a serious dream of being a forensic anthropologist, oddly...

Carson Daly was still in a state of mourning when he returned to the Today show on Wednesday, less than a month after the death of his mother, Pattie Daly Caruso.
The 44-year-old TV personality joined co-anchors Hoda Kotb, Matt Lauer and Al Roker on the morning show and opened up about how he was doing following his family's loss.
"I'm doing Ok. I'm healing, still in shock, really rough loss," he said. "Nobody likes that phone to ring in the middle of the night to get that call."
Daly also took to Instagram Wednesday morning to share a letter his mother wrote when she was battling breast cancer two decades ago. She ultimately died of a heart attack on Sept. 17. She was 73.
"My sister and I just discovered this 'goodbye' letter mom left in her desk drawer. It was written in the thick of her breast cancer battle. She clearly thought she might not make it...

Though her casting attracted a backlash – a ridiculous backlash, we might add – from a vocal minority of fans, Jodie Whittaker’s appointment as the Thirteenth Doctor has been widely hailed as a progressive step in the right direction for Doctor Who.
For the most part, previous actors who’ve played the role have also welcomed the news that the Time Lord is about to become a woman for the first time. Since the announcement that Jodie Whittaker would be portraying the character, several stars from the show, both past and present, have congratulated the actress – including Peter Capaldi, Colin Baker and David Tennant. Now, John Barrowman’s weighed in with his thoughts as well, and it seems that he’s fully on board with having a female Doctor.

Today is A Day Without A Woman, a demonstration of solidarity to show the need for human rights for all. Throughout the country (and perhaps the world), you will see women wearing red, not spending money, and not working to protest gender inequality. Between her Super Bowl appearance, which got fans into ‘formation,’ and an HBO special combined with the surprise release of Lemonade and her subsequent world tour, Beyoncé was the undisputed queen of 2016. And this year, following the announcement that she’s pregnant with twins and slated to make history at the GRAMMYs, she’s also scheduled to headline Coachella, marking the first time a female artist has appeared at the top of the schedule of the California music and arts festival in a decade. There’s no disputing that 2017 will once again fall under her reign.

Adam Cohen, the son of the iconic singer-songwriter, who died on Thursday at age 82, penned a thoughtful note on Saturday after laying him to rest.
"My sister and I just buried my father in Montreal. With only immediate family and a few lifelong friends present, he was lowered into the ground in an unadorned pine box, next to his mother and father. Exactly as he’d asked," the son of the "Hallelujah" singer wrote on Facebook. "As I write this I’m thinking of my father’s unique blend of self-deprecation and dignity, his approachable elegance, his charisma without audacity, his old-world gentlemanliness and the hand-forged tower of his work."

Every hour of This Is Us is better than the last.
That's not just a pat phrase. This Is Us Season 1 Episode 4 took one simple day at "The Pool" for the Pearson family and from it explained so much about how Kevin, Kate and Randall became the people they are today.
The way those stories were all interwoven with the contemporary narrative was seamless and so engaging. Sometimes flashbacks can be so tedious, but the back and forth on This Is Us only makes the series more enjoyable.
It does not, however, make for a simple and logical review. So bear with me as I try to figure this out. Oftentimes I had to choose different ways to make sense of Parenthood, and the same will be true for This Is Us.

What do you get when you combine a llama, a dash of 'Dil', and a larger-than-life sized microwave? In some cases, it might be an exotic dish prepared on The Food Network. But, if you know anything about YouTube stars Dan Howell and Phil Lester, you’d know it was a recipe for an amazing theatrical experience. Filled with flashbacks, flashforwards, and everything in between, the UK duo killed time itself during a recent stop of their The Amazing Tour Is Not On Fire (Tatinof for short) tour.
My sister and I were lucky enough to get a meet-and-greet before the show, and even though I'm not necessarily the kind of superfan who knows what Dan and Phil eat for breakfast every morning, I was geeking out at the prospect of meeting them. Irl, they both towered over me at about six-foot -- but they were so welcoming. Selfies were taken and hugs were given.

It’s hard to believe, but 20 years ago today, Nintendo was unleashing the N64 upon the world. For many, the console still holds some of our fondest gaming memories, and in honor of the consoles 20th Anniversary, the Cinelinx team have gathered to discuss their favorite games from the system. Come inside to check them out and share your own memories with us!
It’s hard to pick just one game from the massive list of Nintendo 64 titles (many of which were incredible). Even so, we did our best to limit our staff to picking only one as their favorite. If they were on a desert island with only a N64 and one game to pick...what would it be?

Uncle Jesse was my first TV crush and be advised, the love was real. One Christmas in the late 80s, I got a cool plastic Smurf camera and spent an entire roll of film* trying to take a picture of Uncle Jesse, a k a John Stamos, on my TV.** (Note: This did not work and I settled with a hand drawing, which I still have in a box somewhere and it is signed "Kristin Katsopolis.") My sister and I watched Full House like it was a religion. We knew all the catchphrases, we laughed every single time Uncle Jesse did his Elvis impression or baby Michelle quipped "You got it, dude!" We even thought John Stamos' mullet, which basically looked like a raccoon landed backwards on his head,...

Sounds like Amy Schumer and Jennifer Lawrence are quite the dream team! The pair is writing a screenplay together, and when Amy attended the Hollywood Film Awards on Sunday, E! News asked what it's been like for them to work together. "Jennifer is a great writer," she said. "She doesn't play by the rules. She can be out there in a really cool way where you thought that you understood a scene and then she'll just kind of turn it. She's great." Meanwhile, Jennifer is busy promoting The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2, and Amy revealed that she's a big fan of the franchise. "I love those movies. Amy Schumer's ditching the jokes to address a serious issue. The comedienne got extremely candid while chatting about her own body image issues with Maria Shriver during a pre-taped interview for "Today" on Friday. The "Inside Amy Schumer" star has teamed up with Goodwill of Southern California to help women feel more comfortable about themselves with fashion. Amy hopes that through her partnership, she'll be able to help women, like herself, feel more confident and empowered with the right clothes. "It's an emotional thing," she told Shriver during their sit-down interview. "It's been a struggle for me my whole life, and especially just being in the entertainment industry. Standing on a stage in front of people, I can't perform my best or be confident if I'm not sure — if I'm pulling at something [I'm wearing]. And sometimes I would just want to throw in the towel and be like, 'I'm not gonna go do standup tonight.

Captain Jack Harkness himself, John Barrowman, has revealed the existence of ‘three or four’ Torchwood radio plays…
John Barrowman’s last appearance in the televised Doctor Who universe (in 2011’s Torchwood series Miracle Day) seems a long time ago now. In the meantime, he’s found a new lease of geek life as the villainous Malcolm Merlyn in The CW’s Arrow.
Whilst attending a press conference promoting the DC Comics-based show, Barrowman revealed that Torchwood could well have the resurrection capabilities of its protagonist Captain Jack.
“I do know that we’re doing three or four radio plays for the BBC for Torchwood,” he revealed.
He added “My sister and I are discussing the possibility of writing one of them and whether or not that leads to something [on TV] … But I’m full-time with Arrow now.”
So is he keen to return to the role? “It’s not a...

Move over Kimye, looks like Givenchy designer Riccardo Tisci has a new favorite celebrity muse.

In the black-and-white photos, Julia sports minimal makeup and a more androgynous look than we're used to seeing on the Pretty Woman actress. Even more notable? The absence of her signature, mega-watt smile. Instead, she replaces it with a fierce stare more in line with Givenchy's famously moody ads.

This morning, Amazon released the entire first season of “Transparent,” a great new dramedy starring Jeffrey Tambor as a transgender woman coming out to her family and beginning her full gender transition at an advanced age. I already published my review, as well as an interview with Tambor, and now I have an interview with the show’s creator, “Six Feet Under” and “United States of Tara” veteran Jill Soloway. It’s a deep dive into the world of trans politics — including the question of whether it’s ideal to have a cis male (aka someone born a man) like Tambor playing this role — how Soloway’s professional past and family history shaped the series, the prospect of people watching all 10 episodes at once, and more. As I said in my review, it may take me a little time to finish the rest of the season, given what a busy...

Have you ever wondered what are the films that inspire the next generation of visionary filmmakers? As part of our monthly Ioncinephile profile (read this September), we ask the filmmaker the incredibly arduous task of identifying their top ten list of favorite films. Craig Johnson (who sees his The Skeleton Twins receive its theatrical release on September 12th) put together this top 10 (as of September 2014).
Carrie - Brian De Palma (1976)
“Freaky, funny, arty, beautiful, … and fucking scary. Sissy Spacek breaks your heart. And that seventies split screen action? Badass. This movie delivers on all levels at all times.”
Election – Alexander Payne (1999)
“Every moment of this movie rings true. Painfully funny, painfully smart and so perfectly constructed. My sister and I quote it whenever we see each other. Might be a perfect film.”
The Graduate – Mike Nichols (1967)
“The look on Mrs. Robinson’s face when Benjamin leaves her in the hallway.

For a generation of kids, Saturday morning at 11am was appointment-television time. You put away your cereal bowl and switched from cartoons or pro-wrestling to a channel a little further down the dial. After a minute or two, you'd finally see that signature animated train — a funky, pulsing engine grooving down inner-city elevated tracks (and later, around the world), puffing out rainbow-colored smoke. 1. Miley Cyrus and Sinead O'Connor's Feud Heats up
Miley Cyrus did not take too kindly to Sinead O'Connor's seemingly well-intentioned open letter, re-posting some of the Irish singer's frantic tweets from 2012. Then, O'Connor fired back with more than just words, insinuating that legal action may be taken against the former Disney star. After that, Miley responded via Twitter, and now we are on our third O'Connor open letter.
"Ms Cyrus has today posted tweets of mine which are two years old and which were sent when I was ill and seeking medical help," O'Connor wrote on her Facebook page on Thursday, Oct. 3. "She has done this in an attempt to deliberately cause me harm and hurt. I wish to confirm that I am quite well and kindly request people cease e mailing me in the mistaken belief these are recent tweets."
