The Crown Prosecution Service in the UK may be weighing whether to bring sexual assault charges against Kevin Spacey in half a dozen cases. However, on this side of the Atlantic, the much-accused Oscar winner looks to have side stepped some very damning allegations and perhaps $40 million in damages.
A federal judge in New York today denied an anonymous accuser of the one-time House of Cards star his move to keep his identity private in the big bucks assault and battery suit filed last September with Star Trek Discovery star Anthony Rapp. While the pseudonym “C.D.” plaintiff in question has 10 days to refile the matter under his real name, the man’s lawyers have already told the court that their client feels he “is emotionally unable to proceed with the action and will discontinue his claims.”
Which would mean Spacey would see yet another legal action against him dissipate.

Talent Agency CAA has raised pay rates for assistants and other hourly employees, an individual with knowledge of the matter told TheWrap on Wednesday.
Assistants — a specific job title at CAA — will now make $18 an hour, up from $15, the individual said. New hourly rates for other employees were not disclosed.
Assistants in Hollywood are notoriously poorly paid and work long hours for often-demanding bosses, part of Hollywood lore that has been satirized in movies like “Swimming With Sharks.” But assistants have started to push back, publicizing their dissatisfaction with the hashtag #PayUpHollywood.
The pay hikes come as part of CAA’s efforts to set compensation for employees and plans to enact them preceded the recent uproar over how much entry level and assistant level jobs in Hollywood driven by the hashtag campaign, the individual said. The effort is “ongoing,” according to the individual.

Little do they know she is poised to outwit them all.
The movie starred Kevin Spacey as the insufferable studio exec and Frank Whaley as the put-upon assistant.

Last time Patricia Arquette was staring an Emmy in the face it was 2007, and she was on her second nomination for playing Allison Dubois in Medium—the pretty mom who has it all, with psychic powers to boot. What could have been a hackneyed stereotype became, in the hands of Arquette, a nuanced and moving portrait of a woman torn. She didn’t win back then, but this year she just might, with two astoundingly challenging real-life roles under her belt: abusive mom Dee Dee Blanchard in Hulu’s The Act, and dissatisfied prison worker-turned-criminal Joyce “Tilly” Mitchell in Showtime’s Escape at Dannemora.
With the two limited series shoots, and her new Netflix film Otherhood crammed into a few months, Arquette found she leaned on the network TV training she had on Medium to run that marathon. “Absolutely it prepared me for that,” she says. “I think it gives...

Tough break. After 15 years in director’s jail, “Wonderland” helmer James Cox resurfaces with another smarmy true-crime drama, “Billionaire Boys Club,” this one about a bunch of Los Angeles investment scammers who wound up whacking a couple of their associates when their Ponzi scheme started to go south, only to have the film implode in the wake of #MeToo allegations against co-star Kevin Spacey. This one quietly debuted via VOD on July 17, where there was presumably little demand, followed by a small theatrical release a month later.
Granted, it doesn’t help that “Billionaire Boys Club” was horrible to begin with, the kind of dumbed-down, West Coast, wanna-be “The Wolf of Wall Street” that gives “derivatives trading” a whole new meaning. But the irony of the film’s inevitable failure is that Spacey — who delivers one of his great egomaniacal scenery-chewing performances — took the risk of playing a character dangerously...

Slaves Of Hollywood - A 1993 film about Hollywood Assistants ripped from today's headlines, sort of.
by Terry Keefe
Back in the mid-90s, Michael Wechsler, Brian Grossman, and myself collaborated with a bunch of great young actors and crew for this micro-budgeted feature film about tortured Hollywood assistants. Alex Simon makes a few cameos also!
As we were going for "theater of the absurd," and (mostly) dark laughs, it isn't the perfect companion to today's headlines, but some of the milieu will be familiar. The stories about Harvey Weinstein abounded even then. In total honesty, I had great bosses in Hollywood, and the film is all based on stories we had heard about Other bosses. The ones you didn't want to work for. There but for the grace of God went we. But Meryl Streep did later call Harvey "God," so it all gets confusing.
We shot this two years before Kevin Spacey tore up the screen as the abusive producer in Swimming With Sharks,...

Coming out on DVD, Blu-ray & VOD in the U.S. & Canada August 15 from Gravitas Ventures.

Danny, a Taiwanese-American man, longs to have a baby with his American boyfriend Tate, but their attempts at international surrogacy are complicated by Danny’s meddling mom, who wants to control every aspect of the process — all the way from Taipei. On Sunday, TV audiences finally got a chance to watch the aquatic sporting event of the year: Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps racing a great white shark to see who's a faster swimmer.
And it basically turned out exactly how you imagined it would -- well, not exactly, because he didn't get eaten. But he didn't beat the shark, either.
Phelps -- who agreed to participate in the spectacle because he loves sharks and, after earning 23 Olympic gold medals, a person probably just gets bored -- went head-to-head against nature's more fearsome predator on Phelps vs. Shark: Great Gold vs. Great White.
Watch: Michael Phelps Gets 'Up Close and Personal' With a Toothy Great White
While many assumed Discovery Channel's Shark Week stunt would be ridiculous, it turns out that yes, it was totally ridiculous, but still really fun.
As the show opened, the deep-voiced narrator laid out the stakes of the race in the most over-the-top...

According to USA Today, an appellate court in Brazil cleared the 32-year-old Olympic swimmer of any criminal charges, concluding that Lochte did not break the law in exaggerating the details of an incident at a gas station during the Rio Olympics in August.
The appeals court also ruled that Brazilian law was not broken because the investigation was initiated by the authorities in Rio, not Lochte, and that what he said in his NBC interview didn't constitute as a false report. Prosecutors now have 15 days to decide whether they will challenge the ruling.

Chicago – There is no better “renaissance man” as an actor and performer than Oscar Winner Kevin Spacey. He was the recipient the Gene Siskel Center “Renaissance Award” on May 13th, 2017.
As a triple threat performer – actor, impressionist and singer – he has been an exceptional representative both in his many roles and as an advocate for actors everywhere.
Each year, the Gene Siskel Film Center of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago celebrates the art of film by honoring a filmmaker who advances that art form. Kevin Spacey joined past Renaissance Award honorees, including some of the most respected actors and directors working in the film industry today, such as William H. Macy and Felicity Huffman, Michael Mann, Nicole Kidman, George Lucas, Robert Downey Jr., Jamie Foxx, Reese Witherspoon, Gwyneth Paltrow, Morgan Freeman, Mark Ruffalo and Scarlett Johansson.

Formerly titled In the Deep, the first trailer for 47 Meters Down has been released. This title, from Dimension Films, focuses on two young women and their first cage dive. Swimming with sharks, Lisa and Kate have chosen their initial dive poorly. This title, from director Johannes Roberts (Storage 24), stars Mandy Moore, Claire Holt and Matthew Modine. A preview of the film's June launch is available here. The official synopsis begins with a break-up. Lisa (Moore) and Kate (Holt) decide to head to Mexico, to chase away heartbreak. Once on the sandy beaches, they make a potentially fatal mistake, by trusting a shady dive instructor. Events take a worse turn when their cage breaks and they are left 47 meters below the surface, with their oxygen running out. There is no escape, outside of facing several Great White Sharks. The latest artwork for the film is hosted above. It is one of the weakest graphics,...

This has been a week of heart-breaking news, at least for me. No, nobody I know died (at least as of my deadline), but I hate all the stories coming out of DC Entertainment. No more Shelly Bond? Are they crazy? And Eddie Berganza? I remember meeting his cute kids. What the hell happened?
And that’s before we even get into conjecture about who this is supposed to be.
I don’t want you to think that by talking about Eddie’s kids that I am in any way suggesting that his accusers are lying about him. It’s difficult enough for a woman to stand up and make the accusation. No one does that for kicks. Rather, I’m suggesting that harassers (and their victims) are more complicated than just one type of action, no matter how vile. If anything, if we think that harassers and rapists and...

I don't know what to say about this. It's like Liar, Liar for crazy cat ladies. That is not something that happens often, but then I am confronted with what can only be described as Barry Sonnenfeld directing "this generation's Oh Heavenly Dog," and I find myself… stumped. It looks like an entire film designed to be broken into gif form. Whatever Venn diagram there is of people who love Kevin Spacey when he's being a contemptuous prick and people who love cute kitties, the people who exist in that intersection are probably dancing in the streets right about now. For the rest of us, I'm going to guess "creeping horror" is more accurate. If he plays it as his character from Swimming With Sharks, this will be the greatest film ever made. It's not too late for more Adr, folks. And if he does battle with the kitten from Keanu,...

They may not be General Zod or Darth Vader, but these characters are the kind of mundane villains you might encounter in everyday life...
The most memorable movie villains are often also the most outlandish. If you were to stop most strangers on the street and ask them to name screen villain, they’d probably either tell you to leave them alone and stop making them nervous, or they’d instead name one of cinema’s big hitters: heavy-breathing cloak-wearer Darth Vader, or flesh-eating aesthete Hannibal Lecter.
In reality, villains are more mundane. They seldom wear outlandish costumes, and they don’t necessarily even kill or injure people. Real-world villains can range from bullying and self-important bosses to aggressively opinionated news anchors, and from sadistic physical education teachers to heartless politicians.
So here are 10 or so screen antagonists who've stuck in the memory without wearing hockey masks,...

Benicio Del Toro is a pretty singular talent in the industry, so it’s never a surprise when he does worth worthy of being honored. This year, the 19th annual Hollywood Film Awards have seen fit to bestow upon him the Hollywood Supporting Actor Award for his performance in Sicario. Of course, Del Toro more or less stole that film, so it’s a totally viable honor. He’s going to be in play for an Oscar nod in Best Supporting Actor, but regardless of if that nom happens or not, this shows how he’s still crafting memorable supporting characters. That’s always been Del Toro’s bread and butter, so this is just a perfect citation for him… Here’s part of the press release once again announcing this honor: dick clark productions announced that Academy Award-winning actor Benicio Del Toro will receive the “Hollywood Supporting Actor Award” for Sicario.

Stars: Nicolas Hoult, Craig Roberts, James Corden, Tom Riley, Joseph Mawle, Georgia King, Ed Skrein, Jim Piddock | Written by John Niven | Directed by Owen Harris
Kill Your Friends is adapted from John Niven’s 2009 novel. It’s a late Nineties black comedy about the last hurrahs of post-Britpop record labels before the internet came along and devalued everything they’d built their expense accounts on. The book is to the music industry what Brett Easton Ellis’s American Psycho is to Wall Street. In so much that taking a life can be justified if winning is all and losing will get your fired.
Leading the film is Nicholas Hoult. He plays Stelfox – the ruthless and ambitious record company executive that lacks any morals or love of music. He simply craves success. Paradoxically, this has served him well to date, but the lack of a work ethic or plan is catching up with him.

Tamra Judge went totally topless in Tahiti on Monday night's The Real Housewives of Orange County.
"Take your top off," Judge urged the other housewives as she jumped into the beautiful blue water on the island of Moorea, where the women continued their Tahitian girls' trip.
The wives stayed in private huts over the water, but not everything was private.
"There's people staring at you," said Heather Dubrow, covering up Judge with a towel.
"It looks like you got sun," Meghan King Edmonds told Judge later at dinner, before adding, "That's because you were naked."
Said Shannon Beador: "Vacation...
