To win on a game show, you need a lot of skill and a little luck. Nobody knows that concept better than the host of Press Your Luck, Elizabeth Banks, because that’s how you could describe her career. Yes, she obviously had the talent to succeed, but Banks also knows she’s had the good fortune […]

With Bridgerton's renewal for seasons three and four, it's official that we'll be getting a season based on An Offer from a Gentleman, the third book in Julia Quinn's series of novels and the story of Benedict, the second brother, finding his true love. Of course, it's very likely that the TV version of the season will be a little different from the books, with more subplots for supporting characters and more depth to Benedict, since the show doesn't focus quite as exclusively on two characters at a time. Still, if you're curious to find out what to expect in season three, read on for some major spoilers from An Offer from a Gentleman!
Meet Sophie Beckett, The Ton's Cinderella
The heroine of this book is another new character, Sophie Beckett, who is the illegitimate daughter of the Earl of Penwood. She's fully aware of her parentage, and the...

After the very impressive start of “Godzilla vs. Kong” last weekend, the MonsterVerse hit grossed $13.38 million. That’s a big drop from its opening, but how big is a matter of perspective.
Overall, the weekend’s top 10 grossed around $24 million, with all films seeing about $26 million. That’s about 45 percent less than last weekend’s holiday total, but still second best for the year so far. It would have been nice to have another big, new title to build on last weekend’s success, but for now struggling theaters have holdovers.
At $69.5 million domestic over 12 days, it is now the top-grossing domestic release in over a year. Several factors make that even more impressive: HBO Max subscribers can watch “Godzilla vs. Kong” for free, a substantial number of theaters remain closed (including most of Canada), and a swath of the potential audience remains reluctant to enter confined spaces. Photo: 'Food Club'/Netflix Let me start off by saying I love Italy, I love comedies, and I love food, so I was fully looking forward to diving into this movie. I rented this film without even bothering to watch the trailer and while it started off extremely promising, around mid-way through I found myself questioning how I felt about the characters and their respective storylines. While it was extremely close to what I wanted it to be, it just didn’t exactly do the trick I was hoping for. The film really tried to throw in a few life lessons, some romantic storylines, and some risqué jokes that ultimately fell flat for me, and I’m here to explain why. One of the Spanish-speaking world’s biggest sales forces, Film Factory Entertainment has swooped on sales rights to thriller “Two” (“Duo”), directed by Mar Targarona and the latest production from top Spanish genre auteur producer Rodar y Rodar.
Producer of two milestone titles of Spain’s genre auteur scene – J.A Bayona’s “The Orphanage” and Guillem Morales’ “Julia’s Eyes,” Targarona has built her own directorial career on suspense thrillers that prove unexpected and unpredictable in tone and resolution, such as 2016’s “Boy Missing” and “The Photographer of Mauthausen” – part true-events inspired record, part edge-of-set entertainment – in particular drawing strong notices. “Two” looks no exception. Its singular premise sees two strangers, a man and a woman in their 30s, wake up in an unknown place, naked and glued to each other by their stomachs. They struggle to understand how and why they got there – becoming increasingly terrified as they discover clues and the truth emerges.

Timing is everything, especially where a pandemic is concerned. At the beginning of 2020 the CW horror anthology series, “Two Sentence Horror Stories,” was just starting production on Season 2. Just three weeks into prep, the show was greenlit for Season 3. But the confidence of already having the go-ahead for another season was tempered by the arrival of the coronavirus pandemic.
“I was in the writing room, briefly, in L.A. in mid-March and flew back to Canada about 24 hours before the travel ban and quarantine was put in place,” the show’s executive producer, Liz Levine, told IndieWire. But arriving in Canada in the nick of time to start production was more than an added blessing; for Levine and the writers room, it gave them an opportunity to use the uncertain times to refine and strengthen their scripts to talk about more than just what goes bump in the night.

Hit BBC drama “Peaky Blinders” will end after its sixth and final season, but creator and writer Steven Knight has promised the story will “continue in another form.”
Hugely popular overseas, the series follows the story of Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy) and his notorious family’s rise to power against the backdrop of working class, post-wwi Birmingham. BBC confirmed the show’s terminus on Monday, when announcing that it had resumed production in the U.K. under strict Covid guidelines.
The season 6 ending is something of a surprise given Knight previously told Entertainment Weekly in 2019 that “Peaky Blinders” would live to see season 7. However, a year’s delay in production due to the pandemic is likely to have accelerated plans to wrap with season 6, which will likely air in late 2021 or possibly even early 2022 depending on how quickly production can complete filming amid the U.K.’s ongoing virus crisis.

At the end of last week we received the news that another highly influential artist pulled up a seat at the great drawing desk in the sky. On the 2nd December Richard Corben passed away at the age of 80. Another talent gone too soon. I had to take a bit of time to put this one together as the bulk of his career is out of my wheelhouse. Upon doing my research I found a large quantity of work for the big two, so I thought by talking about this portion of his career with be a gateway for the readers to discover his larger body of work. Being a big fan of the Cartoonist Kayfabe Youtube channel, not a week geos by when Ed Piskor and Jim Rugg don’t talk about Corben’s art. I don’t think I would be able to write this one without their education.

It seems that the more you think about Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, the more it starts to break down as a coherent narrative. Plot holes continue to haunt J.J. Abrams’ concluding act in the Sequel Trilogy, whether it’s continuity errors that contradict the established lore or things that Episode IX introduced to canon for the first time.
Apart from Force Healing, which was as convenient as it was unheard of before the last movie in the Skywalker Saga, what bemused us the most was the concept of the Force Dyad. In fact, we’d never been introduced to such a thing before Palpatine used the phrase for the first time in the story’s final act.
Simply put, a dyad is when two people become one with the Force and share a bond. Rey and Kylo’s connection formed all the way back in The Force Awakens,...

NBA 2K players recently started sharing videos and screenshots of seemingly unskippable ads that were running before the start of games.
While the presence of unskippable ads in a full-price game is annoying enough, the frustration caused by these ads was only amplified by the fact that this isn’t the first time that the NBA 2K team has tried to pull this trick off. Actually, you might remember that last year’s NBA 2K game tried to push in-game ads and was met with equal scorn from annoyed fans. EA has also been criticized for putting unskippable ads in some of their UFC games.
In their defense, the NBA 2K team responded to the circulation of these in-game ads with a quick apology. However, the wording of this apology leaves a lot to be desired:

John Wayne, Robert Ryan and some thrilling color combat footage grace this Howard Hughes WW2 aviation epic, that’s famous for being the odd-title-out in the filmography of Nicholas Ray. Just how did the politically diverging Ray and Hughes get along so well? The Wac’s sensational Technicolor restoration does the real combat footage a big favor: minus scratches and dirt, it looks better than ever.

When they dig it up, what will they find? Fans will want to see this forgotten Deutsch-noir masterpiece. Helmut Käutner’s tale of trouble on an American air base in West Germany is a swirl of romantic, political and criminal complications — all down & dirty. A tiny burg that serves as a brothel for U.S. airmen attracts displaced women and dispirited men willing to do what’s necessary to survive. We’ve seem nothing quite like this riveting drama — its sixty-year absence carries a taint of political ‘inconvenience.’ If you like challenging fare like Ace in the Hole and Try and Get Me! you’re going to love it. Both censored and uncensored versions have been restored in excellent quality.

Los Angeles public broadcaster Kcet has confirmed the episodic lineup for its 21st annual “Fine Cut Festival,” which features short films from Southern California student filmmakers.
Finalists will air on Kcet every Wednesday at 10 p.m. starting Sept. 30, followed by every Thursday at 11 p.m. nationally on LinkTV, starting Oct. 1. Over 400 films were submitted during May and June from filmmakers enrolled in 40 Southern California schools; finalists were chosen in the categories of documentary, animation and narrative shorts (under 25 minutes).
Winners in each of the three categories will be announced during a pre-taped virtual awards ceremony event on Sept. 29. Prizes are valued at between $2,500 and $10,000, with one student also selected for The Jack Larson Southern California Student Filmmaker Award — which sends them to the American Pavilion Emerging Filmmaker showcase at the Cannes International Film Festival next May (pending travel restrictions).

We have the new trailer for Spiral, which will be making its premiere on Shudder later this month:
"Malik and Aaron move to a small town in search of a better environment for them and their 16-year-old daughter. But nothing is as it seems as something sinister lies behind the picturesque homes and welcoming faces of their new neighbors.
A horror film for the current age, Spiral skillfully dissects themes of ostracization, otherness, and the cycles of societal rejection and hate, led by a breakout performance by Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman.
With Ty Wood and Chandra West. Written by Colin Minihan (writer of the Shudder Original Z and the upcoming new Urban Legend) and John Poliquin (Selfie), directed by Kurtis David Harder.
Spiral is produced by Minihan, Harder, and John Poliquin for Digital Interference, the celebrated Canadian indie label behind the SXSW sensation What Keeps You Alive (released by IFC Midnight), Shudder Originals Z and Still/Born,...

The Chinese believe that when someone dies, one’s soul returns home on a certain night to say the final goodbye. This movie is about a returning grandma’s soul to an apartment block, where she blames her son and his wife for her death and seeks revenge. Not surprisingly, the Chinese title is rightfully translated as “Night of the Returning Soul”.
Throw in the commotion is Leon (Stephen Chow), an escaped mental patient who lives nearby, who fancies himself as a ghost buster and decides to help the security guards by teaching them ghost busting techniques. However, a half crazy, love torn local resident Kwan (Karen Mok) is also recruited and together they bond into a fearless team and take on the evil spirit which haunts the apartment with hilarious results.

Supernatural was dealt a cruel blow when the production shutdown hit its final two episodes from being shot.
However, The CW is keen for the long-running drama to “end 15 years the right way” with a fall premiere planned for its remaining seven episode run.
The CW’s CEO and President Mark Pedowitz laid out how the show will film its two final episodes, although he admitted that it would remain flexible given the current situation.
“We already have five episodes in the can of Supernatural, Jared and Jensen will go back as soon as they are able to to finish up the last two episodes and then Jared will go off to Walker. The two studios are in constant communication to make sure that this is a seamless handoff,” he said.

Going into the final season of Arrow, we knew that Oliver would do the Monitor’s bidding; Diggle would have his buddy’s back more than ever; and Mia & Co. would be doing that 2040 thing they do.
But no one could have foreseen the rich character development that Earth-Two’s Laurel Lance would undergo, in almost every episode to date. The result has been one of the most enjoyable aspects of Arrow‘s 10-episode farewell run.

Though he hasn’t quite matched the record set by the late, great Stan Lee, legendary author Stephen King has always been fond of a cameo role in one of his many, many adaptations – regardless of whether they appear on film or television.
From Creepshow to Pet Sematary, The Shining Miniseries to Mr. Mercedes, the literary master of horror has collected an impressive number of screen credits throughout his career. And this year, he added another thanks to It: Chapter Two, in which he played a grouchy shopkeeper who greets the adult Bill Denbrough as he’s searching for his totem – a bike called Silver, in this case, which instantly reminds James McAvoy’s Loser of little Georgie and the nightmarish clown lurking in the sewer.
As for King’s role, it’s naturally pretty brief, and pokes fun at Bill’s stammer. You can check it out for yourself up above.

One of Valve's most notable writers has apparently returned to the company.
Erik Wolpaw, has seemingly returned to Valve after apparently having left the company in 2017 to work on Psychonauts 2.
The discussion surrounding Wolpaw's return began when Reddit user Trenchman noticed that Wolpaw's name appears in the credits for Artifact (Valve's recently released Ccg title based on Dota 2). Given that there had been no formal announcement of Wolpaw's return to the company at that point, or even vague hints, his inclusion in the game's credits struck many as being odd.
At the time, there was some discussion regarding whether or not Wolpaw had perhaps worked on Artifact in some capacity during his time with Valve. However, Reddit user Trenchman actually reached out to Gabe Newell's Valve email address and was informed that Wolpaw had indeed returned to Valve. Trenchman has posted screens of the email...

We've got another promo spot for you to watch for The X-Files Season 11! As you'll see, the tension is building as Agents Mulder (David Duchovny) and Scully (Gillian Anderson) are looking for their son. They also are forced to reluctantly team up with Walter Skinner (Mitch Pileggi), who they seem to have lost trust in.
This next season will consist of ten episodes. Two of them will continue the saga story, and the rest will be more standalone "monster of the week" episodes. I'm so excited to see what creator Chris Carter and his team have in store. When teasing what we can expect, a previous report revealed:
With more monster-of-the-week episodes this season, fans can expect season 11 to be united in theme but varied in tone. After episode one delves into the Cigarette Smoking Man’s (William B. Davis) backstory and apparent family ties to Mulder, the second hour...

Heather Lind, the former star of AMC’s political drama series “Turn: Washington Spies,” accused President George H. W. Bush of sexual assault in an Instagram post that has since been deleted. The actress wrote that the former President “touched me from behind” while taking a photo at a March 2014 press event celebrating the television series.
Lind said she believed the action classifies as sexual assault and felt that Bush viewed it as “an attempt at humor.” She wrote that a security guard blamed her for the action for standing too close to the President, while former First Lady Barbara Bush allegedly knew what occurred and “rolled her eyes.”

It's a sort of lopsided smile, almost like a child's-drawing version of what a grin is supposed to look like. Even more than the eyes and the jawline and that chin, which would later by framed by long Swingin' Sixties sideburns and covered by a ragged Seventies beard, it's the mouth of the kid in those early, black and white pictures that draws recognition. That's Eric Clapton's smile that the lad in the woolly jumper is sporting. And as he got older, even after he became famous and fans...

He's (Been) Here! Why These High School Sweethearts Took 'Newborn' Photos with Their 21-Year-Old Son
That’s one big baby!
Rebecca Jensvold Hayes and David Ward recently partook in a unique photo shoot to belatedly announce the “birth” of their 21-year-old son, Clayton Jensvold. The pictures quickly vent viral, with confused commenters calling the images “creepy” or “weird.”
But for Hayes, Ward and Jensvold, the goofy pictures have a much deeper meaning.
The California couple dated in high school, but broke up before Hayes gave birth to Jensvold in December 1995.
The high school sweethearts went on to marry different people and lead separate lives — in fact, the only thing that kept them in touch over the years was their son.

Two former presidents have gone from exchanging pleasantries with world leaders to trying to one-up each other with who has the smarter grandchildren.
Bill Clinton, affectionately called “Pop-Pop” by grandkids Charlotte and Aidan, and George W. Clinton, 70, began the humblebragging by proudly telling the audience about his granddaughter’s latest cute milestone.

Two episodes were provided prior to broadcast.
Truth be told, it’s not very often that I get into a summer series. After intensely following scripted dramas throughout the other seasons of the year – be they for work or pleasure – I just feel like taking a break for a few months to enjoy other things, and maybe you can relate. ABC has picked up four new series from its sister ABC Studios, including a new drama from Shonda Rhimes’ company, a drama about saving the world (starring Jason Ritter), a series about refugees… from America, and comedy that sounds like it might take a few cues from the recently installed White House inhabitant.
In “The Mayor,” Brandon Micheal Hall plays an aspiring young rapper, Courtney Rose, who decides – as a publicity stunt – to run for mayor. He did it solely to generate buzz and become rich and famous. Instead, he is actually elected mayor, an outcome he never predicted. Now he must lean on his mother (Yvette Nicole Brown) and friends, including Valentina (Lea Michele) to become the mayor he didn’t think he wanted to be.
