This article contains spoilers for Get Gotti.
Netflix’s Get Gotti puts the spotlight on a New York gangster icon, whose camera-ready presence signaled his downfall. The prosecutorial team sees John Gotti as an affront to decency. The capos, soldiers, and neighborhood acquaintances see only a larger-than-life street savior, with the balls and brains to make something of the communities he oversees.
The FBI and New York’s Organized Crime Task Force (Octf) couldn’t get their heads around it. Everyone on Carmine Street had no doubt the feds were itching to nail John Gott to a high-voltage crucifix so they could display him like a Christmas tree ornament. But the real sins committed are those against the organization Gotti headed. The Teflon Don broke more mafia edicts than federal crimes. That put him in the spotlight, a place where it’s easy to mistake exposure for protection.

A sequel to the 1996 TV movie "Gotti" about mobster John Gotti is in the works, with Nick Vallelonga (who co-wrote and produced "Green Book") and George Gallo (who wrote "Midnight Run") signed on to write.
Armand Assante, who won an Emmy for a Lead Actor in a Miniseries or a Special for his portrayal in the original, is set to reprise his title role in "Gotti 2: The Final Chapter, Facts Undisputed." The news was announced by the sequel's executive producer Michael Mota at the MobMovieCon event in Atlantic City Friday.
The 1996 film "Gotti" and this latest sequel is not to be confused with the 2018 John Travolta film "Gotti," which famously scored a 0% on Rotten Tomatoes and stands as one of the review aggregator's worst reviewed movies of all time.

John Gotti got his nickname, “The Teflon Don,” because it took forever for lawyers to get charges to stick. Armand Assante, the actor who played the iconic New York City outlaw in HBO’s original crime film Gotti: The Rise and Fall of a Real Life Mafia Don, is also in for the long haul. Assante will reprise his role in the upcoming Gotti Il: The Final Chapter, Facts Undisputed, it was announced at the event “Gotti: The Reunion,” which kicked off the MobMovieCon and SopranosCon weekend at Harrah’s Resort and Casino in Atlantic City.

Joe Johnston, director of Captain America: The First Avenger, has signed up to direct the long-time-coming mobster biopic, Gotti. For the last two years, the film has been kicking around with everyone bar the Queen attached to star. Gotti once had Barry Levinson confirmed as director, Al Pacino as a crime boss, Joe Pesci as a ruthless gangster, Kelly Preston and…gulp, Lindsay Lohan as Gotti Jr’s wife. There’s no word on whether any of these supporting cast announcements still stand, but we do know that John Travolta will still star.
The film is based on a story by Gotti’s son, John A. Gotti, with a screenplay penned by Leo Rossi. No stranger to the mob, Rossi previously wrote 2004′s Mafioso: The Father, The Son. This will be the first time Johnston grapples with a mafia flick, stepping away from his usual genre fare. Previous efforts of his include Jurassic Park III,...

My substantially low expectations for biopic Gotti: Three Generations have gone up a little in the past week or so after Barry Levinson came on as director, and now there’s a little more reason to be hopeful. That’s because THR says that none other than Al Pacino has been cast in the film.
According to the story, he’s joining as Aniello “Neil” Dellacroce, who acted as a mentor and associate to John Gotti, who’s being played here by John Travolta. This is a person who’s had media portrayals in the past, most notably Anthony Quinn in the 1997 TV movie Gotti. The casting of Pacino makes sense not only because of his association with gangster roles (such as The Godfather, Scarface, Carlito’s Way, etc.), but because he recently worked with Levinson on another biopic, You Don’t Know Jack, which is about the controversial Jack Kevorkian.

If you’re HBO, what do you do to follow the excellent first season of Boardwalk Empire? You ship in more gangsters, of course.
Career ‘tough guy’ actor William Forsythe has nabbed a role on the show’s second season as gangster Manny Horvitz, The Hollywood Reporter reports. Forsythe has dabbled in organized crime roles before, having played Sammy The Bull Gravano in Gotti and Al Capone in the TV Series The Untouchables. And who could forget his role as the mobster Flattop in the 1990 Dick Tracy film starring Warren Beatty (I have fond childhood memories of that movie, despite the general public’s distaste for it)?
Also joining the fun is Charlie Cox (Stardust), who will portray a Northern Irish immigrant with ties to the Ira.
Of course, that’s about all we’ll know about these roles until closer to the season premiere, but you can expect Forsythe...

As an actor, Sylvester Stallone has always been pretty much one-note. That said, he plays that one note well when he’s got the right material (the Rocky films, for example, or Cop Land or First Blood, pictured above). Unfortunately, one note does not make a great actor. That’s why it’s so surprising to Stallone campaigning to play a infamous public figure John Gotti in a new film. Does he think he’s got the chops to play a mobster?
Since his jail time and subsequent death, Gotti has yet to received the big-screen treatment, despite having a few television adaptations in his honor (most notably Gotti, starring Armand Assante). As Hollywood does loves gangsters, it’s not much of a surprise that this may soon change, as Stallone is extremely interested in the role [TMZ via Cinematical].
