Josh Hartnett loves a challenge.
The risk of falling flat on his face or soaring as an actor is something he admittedly finds irresistible. “There’s that huge disparate gambler in me, I guess,” he said over Zoom from a hotel room in New York City.
So, it makes sense that he couldn’t pass up playing the lead in M. Night Shyamalan’s new psychological thriller “Trap,” where a father and daughter attend a massive concert for a pop star named Lady Raven, where the dad, portrayed by Hartnett, learns that the event is a setup to catch an elusive serial killer. Said serial killer is him.
As Cooper, Hartnett essentially had to play two roles in one — the outwardly charming prodigal father and “The Butcher,” a secret serial killer.
“His veneer, his mask that he’s putting out to the world, is really well intact at the beginning of this film.

The role of Superman is undeniably one of the most coveted in the superhero genre. For fans and actors alike, it’s a dream part, offering a lot to take in and enjoy. However, Hollywood often sees actors misjudging the potential of certain roles. Take Sean Connery, for instance, who famously turned down the role of Gandalf due to a lack of understanding.
Recently, we reported that renowned British actor Jude Law had once declined the opportunity to play Superman. Now, we have another intriguing tale: Josh Hartnett, a notable actor, also turned down the Superman role—twice!
The actor in question is Josh Hartnett, a former global star who chose to step back from the blinding lights of Hollywood to protect his mental and physical health. He is now enjoying a happy and peaceful life while successfully reviving his career.

The role of Superman is undoubtedly one of the most exciting ones in the world of superheroes. So, if you’re into that sort of thing, there is certainly a lot to take from the role, and it is one of the best roles that an actor can get. But, as it often turns out in Hollywood, some actors tend to have a false perception of a role at one point. Just remember that Sean Connery (in)famously rejected the role of Gandalf because he did not understand it, whatever that means.
Not that long ago, we reported how famous British actor Jude Law rejected the role of Superman some time ago, but we now have a story about another famous actor who rejected the role, but not once – he rejected it twice!
The actor we are going to talk about here is Josh Hartnett, a former global star who,...

Josh Hartnett is opening up about walking away from Hollywood.
In an interview with The Guardian published Sunday, the Trap actor reflected on why he went from mega fame to keeping a low-key profile over the years. After he stopped working for 18 months at the time, Hartnett left Los Angeles, moved back home and changed the films he expressed interest in starring in.
Despite having a Hollywood trajectory that led to great success with films such as Pearl Harbor and Black Hawk Down and even notably turning down the role of Superman twice, Hartnett noted that there was no clear line between “happy Josh and unhappy Josh” and he explained, “People’s attention to me at the time was borderline unhealthy.”
“There were incidents. People showed up at my house. People that were stalking me,” he said.

Barcelona-based production-distribution outfit Filmax has picked up international rights to Spanish holiday comedy “Our (Perfect) Xmas Retreat” (“El refugio”) following the film’s successful domestic theatrical release. Never did we ever imagine listening to Ray Romano do a Beyoncé cover, but here we are. The first time we watched the new trailer for the HBO Max series Made For Love, we were simply so distracted by Romano's spoken word rendition of "Crazy in Love" that we were able to pay zero attention to the trailer itself. Whose idea was this? Why is he doing this? Is this a performance on the show, or special for this trailer? Do we want this on Spotify? Why is it working for us? All those questions ran through our head before we watched the trailer a second time to find out what this show's all about. From what we can tell, Cristin Milioti plays a woman who discovers that her...

Unless you believe all those ridiculous conspiracy theories on social media, as of right now, there aren’t any tech billionaires secretly trying to put monitoring devices into our brains. But in the upcoming HBO Max series, “Made for Love,” that’s a very real consequence in the failing marriage of a tech billionaire and his wife.

Step aside, Mr. Grey, because HBO Max has released the first teaser trailer for the Cristin Milioti-led dark comedy “Made for Love,” and it features a truly haunting rendition of Beyonce’s “Crazy in Love” by Ray Romano.
The series, an adaptation of the 2017 novel by Alissa Nutting, stars Milioti as Hazel Green, a woman on the run after 10 years in a suffocating marriage to tech billionaire Byron Gogol (Billy Magnussen). Hazel soon discovers that Byron has implanted a monitoring device — the Made for Love chip — in her brain, allowing him to watch her every move as she seeks refuge with her aging widower father Herbert (Ray Romano) and his “synthetic partner,” Diane.
Yep, seems pretty crazy.
In addition to Milioti, Magnussen and Romano, the series also stars Dan Bakkedahl, Noma Dumezweni and Augusto Aguilera. Guest stars include Caleb Foote, Kym Whitley, Nyasha Hatendi, Patti Harrison, Ione Skye, Jon Daly,...

Nominations for the Grammy Awards are coming this Tuesday November 24, and there are categories that might set new records, either for wins or for nominations. Let’s look at a few.
DISCUSS2021 Grammy predictions: Album of the Year
Record of the Year
Multiple records could be broken in this category this year. First, if Beyoncé gets a nomination this year — whether it is for “Savage (Remix)” with Megan Thee Stallion, her own “Black Parade,” or maybe even both — she’ll break the record for the most nominations for a female artist in this category, which she currently holds in a tie with Barbra Streisand at five apiece. Beyonce’s previous nominations were for “Say My Name” (as a member of Destiny’s Child in 2001), “Crazy in Love” (2004), “Irreplaceable” (2008), “Halo” (2010) and “Formation” (2017).
Not only that, Beyoncé would also join a select list of artists who’ve had Roty nominations in three different decades.

Megan Thee Stallion was thwarted two weeks ago when her “Savage” remix featuring Beyonce pushed her up to number-two on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. Doja Cat and Nicki Minaj‘s “Say So” remix edged them out. But the duo made their way to the top anyway this week on the chart dated May 30. It’s Megan’s first chart-topper, but Beyonce’s seventh as a solo artist and her 11th when you count her hits with Destiny’s Child. What’s more, it helps Beyonce match a record that Mariah Carey just set earlier this year. Listen to “Savage” above.

Nature hasn’t always been pop music’s closest friend. Unlike unrequited love, coming of age, or escaping your hometown on the open road, songs about oak trees or daffodils or sunny mountain faces don’t tend to inspire the type of cathartic release we expect from our most beloved anthems.

Perhaps more so than any other category in Hollywood cinema, when it comes to casting, the superhero genre is filled with remarkable stories of near misses and almosts. Think of how close Tom Cruise came to landing the role of Iron Man, or Tom Hiddleston testing for Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, before ultimately landing the role of his scheming step-sibling, Loki.
When it comes to the Caped Crusader, one actor that came awfully close to donning the cape and cowl is Josh Hartnett. Back when Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy was still in its infancy, Hartnett was linked with the title role in Batman Begins, but as is often the case, was ultimately forced to pass up the opportunity due to issues with scheduling.
For Josh Hartnett, losing out on the chance to play Gotham’s Dark Knight wasn’t even the biggest disappointment; instead, the actor laments his decision to pass up the opportunity to collaborate with Christopher Nolan.
Per AP:
I would welcome the opportunity to be in a relationship with a great artist in our film culture, no matter where they’re making films. In that instance, I think my regret mostly was not forming the friendship or the creative partnership with that director, more than it was [not] doing Batman.
It’s a missed opportunity that Hartnett has spoken about in the past, and here, the Black Hawk Down actor goes on record to clarify previous comments.
It wasn’t about not doing studio films. At the time, what I was interested in was… the film that I did instead of that was a tiny film about a guy with Asperger’s Syndrome, falling in love with a woman with Asperger’s Syndrome. It was a true story, Mozart And The Whale. It was more a question of what I wanted to do as opposed to what I didn’t want to do, and I always try to look at things that way.
As for Warner Bros. and Ben Affleck’s muscly new incarnation of The Batman, he’ll help form the mighty Justice League when Zack Snyder and Joss Whedon’s long-anticipated ensemble movie swoops into theatres on November 17th.

Josh Hartnett was apparently down to the last three to play Batman in Batman Begins. So why did he pass on the chance?
Back when Christopher Nolan was putting together his cast for 2005’s Batman Begins, the shortlist for the new Dark Knight was apparently whittled down to three names. Christian Bale was one of them, of course, and he would eventually take the role, playing Batman across a trilogy of films. Cillian Murphy was in the running too, and he would instead take the role of Dr Jonathan Crane in the movies.
And then there was Josh Hartnett, who in his career has also been linked with, and apparently passed on, playing Spider-Man and Superman.
He passed, too, on the idea of playing Batman, but in a new interview, he concedes that he has a regret there.

The Weekend Read: Our Saturday essay on the great topics in entertainment and culture today. Last weekend, as Toshi was cruising the Blu-ray shelves for new movies to start asking about, he pulled "Rain Man" on a shelf and considered the cover for a moment before he turned to me, excited. "You didn't tell me Tom Cruise made a superhero movie!" I can only assume his eventual disappointment might be tempered by the fact that "Rain Man" is a pretty good movie. It had been a while since I'd seen it, though, and after they went back to their mom's house, I put it in to watch it. I remember when it came out being right in the midst of my first time watching a lot of classic filmographies, and more than anything, I enjoyed the film as a match-up between Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise. Looking at the film,...

Last year, I wrote an article for Autism Awareness Month, covering three films that focus on this subject matter (those three being Mozart and the Whale, Chocolate and Temple Grandin).
Since last year’s article was well received, I thought that it would be good to do another one this year covering three new films from different countries and genres. If you are interested in reading the previous article, I have added a link at the bottom for you to enjoy.
After Thomas (dir. Simon Shore) – 2006
Based on the book A Friend Like Henry written by Nuala Gardner, this ITV drama focuses on the story of the married couple Rob Graham (Ben Miles) and Nicola Graham (Keeley Hawes) as they struggle to control the behavior of their six-year-old autistic son, Kyle (Andrew Byrne). As Kyle hates everyday social activity, Rob and Nicola have a hard time to communicate with him that also affects their relationship.

For forty years, April has been a month not just to celebrate the Easter holidays or, in the case of this year, a Royal wedding, but to increase the awareness of Autism, a form of special needs that makes it hard for people to communicate and socialize.
As an autistic person, I thought that it would be a good opportunity to look at some of the films that do not just focus on this form of special needs, but that have also changed the way that these characters have been portrayed in numerous films from the late eighties and early nineties (Rain Man, Little Man Tate and I Am Sam).
From visual representations to delving into different genres that have not been seen before, the rise of awareness and understanding in society has been reflected in the media and we will take a look at three key films that have...

The pact provides Acheson and DeMartini with full financing, with distribution handled by Millennium. The duo recently wrapped Mozart and the Whale for Millennium, which was penned by Ron Bass and stars Josh Hartnett, Radha Mitchell and Erica Leerhsen. Whale was helmed by Petter Naess (Elling) and centers on a young couple (Hartnett, Mitchell) who have Asperger's syndrome, a type of autism. Additional films in development under the deal include The Pirates of Palawan, a modern-day pirate tale that takes place in the Philippines during the fall of the Marcos regime, and Michael Strogoff, a sweeping epic based on the Jules Verne novel of the same name.

Variety reports that Josh Hartnett has signed on to star in Mozart and the Whale, with Rachel Weisz currently negotiating for the female lead. Based on a 1995 LA Times article and scripted by Ron Bass, the love story will be directed by Elling's Petter Naess for Millennium Films. The central couple are two savants with Asperger's syndrome, a kind of autism, whose disabilites sabotage their budding relationship. Robert Lawrence, Frank DeMartini and James Acheson are set to produce; interestingly it's Hartnett who's been driving the project, which he'll do before moving on to Brian De Palma's The Black Dahlia opposite Mark Wahlberg.
