South Korea loves a good gangster story, and they love a good boxing film too. To follow-up the rather lacklustre “The Golden Holiday”, director Kim Bong-han tries to mix both the sub-genres with “The Wild”, his latest release which will be streaming in North America exclusively on WellGo USA's streaming service Hi-Yah!
The Wild is streaming on Hi-Yah!
Woo-cheol used to be a successful boxer who had to spend seven years in prison after his opponent died in an unlicensed, underground boxing match. Upon his release, his friend and gangster Do-sik arranges a welcome gift for him in the form of Myeong-joo, a beautiful young prostitute, who Woo-cheol kindly refuses. While Do-sik wants to integrate his old friend into the business, which involves dealing in drugs with North Korean defectors led by Gak-soo, Woo-cheol wants to leave it all behind and go where no one knows him to live a quiet life.

"All great literature is one of two stories; a man goes on a journey or a stranger comes to town." -- Leo Tolstoy
Two of today's hottest shows -- Tracker and Reacher -- are keeping the tradition of the "traveling stranger" alive and well by providing comfort viewing with a kick.
There has always been room on television for the archetype of the helpful loner traveling from town to town.
In the 1960s, James Garner's Maverick featured a wisecracking cowboy poker player with a heart of gold.
That show's campy cousin, The Wild, Wild West, had two Secret Service agents in tight trousers solving cross-country crimes from a swanky steam engine (the original Airstream?).
In the 1970s, The Incredible Hulk put a contemporary spin on the traveling stranger theme, complete with that decade's anxiety over nuclear power.
The show's hero, Dr. David Banner (Bill Bixby), was not out on...

The Korean film industry spits out crime thrillers as if they have an array of scripts with minor changes simply waiting for them every two days. At this point, I’m left asking myself, “Do you love Korean cinema or do you love crime thrillers?”. Alright, it’s not like we don’t get fantastic Korean movies in other genres, but this seems to be an overfavored one. But does The Wild pass the vibe check? I suppose yes and no. There are some scenes in this film that come across as unique even in this overdone genre, with the same kind of fight choreographies, similar costumes, plots, and everything in between; however, there’s nothing new when it comes to the plot. I guess it’s still a gritty tale of crime and punishment that ends rather tragically. I suppose, at the end of the day, it’s a study of the “pseudo-hero” character.

Mystery-horror film “Five Nights at Freddy’s” landed on top of the South Korean cinema box office. But fellow new release title “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songs and Snakes” managed only a fourth placed start.

Episode 6 may be the best episode of The Changeling yet. We were all praises of Lakeith Stanfield’s performance in episode 5, but Clark Backo hits it out of the park in this one. We really see her determination as a mother to get to her son (the real one) after she destroyed everybody’s trust, especially Apollo’s, and fled the scene. While Apollo thought she was a murderous witch, acting on the orders of Cal and her women, Emma was busy trying to make her way to her son. Clark has the ability to be frightening in one second and then emotional in the next, balancing the act of being a mother on a mission in between all of that. Truly great stuff from her here. Let’s quickly get into the episode.

Back in the early ’90s, a New Jersey-based company called GoodTimes Entertainment carved out a place for itself in the home-video space churning out straight-to-video knockoffs of Disney animated features. While “The Lion King” was in theaters, there was GoodTimes’ “Leo the Lion: King of the Jungle” on retail shelves, packaged (for maximum mix-uppability) in Disney’s signature white clamshell case. From a copyright perspective, GoodTimes’ strategy was super-sketchy, but as far as parents were concerned, it was easy to get confused — and most kids probably didn’t know the difference.
That bait-and-switch phenomenon crossed my mind when I saw that Netflix was making “The Monkey King,” which — like GoodTimes’ “Aladdin” or “The Little Mermaid” — was certainly fair game, since the source material (the 16th-century Chinese classic “Journey to the West”) was squarely in the public domain. The cynical part of my brain instantly imagined that the streamer was churning...

Tubi continues to expand its adult animated programming, giving a green light to Breaking Bear, an adult animated comedy series from The Wild and Wonderful Whites of West Virginia director Julien Nitzberg, Creepshow producer Cartel Entertainment, and Blink-182 frontman Tom DeLonge’s To The Stars Media (Monsters of California).
Created by Nitzberg, Breaking Bear parodies the tropes of mobster dramas, comically combining elements of Yogi Bear with The Sopranos. It follows the escapades of three bear siblings who decide they have to start selling drugs in order to raise money and save their home after gas companies start fracking next to their cave. The bears soon enlist other forest animals in a scheme that will pit them against oil companies, The Russian Mafia, local Hell’s Angels and polar bears who hate anything that isn’t white.

"Doctor Who" is probably one of the most chaotic media franchises ever created, and we don't say that lightly. This is a franchise that has tons of lost episodes because of shoddy recording methods, as well as several plotlines that have either been drastically reduced in scope or completely cut altogether. It's kind of a miracle that it has lasted in popularity and relevance for as long as it has.
Arguably the most chaotic aspect of the franchise is its continuity, which can charitably be described as flimsy. Look, when you've gone through as many actors for one character as the titular Doctor has, that's...

Two films released, another film shot, and Steven Soderbergh managed to still watch and read a decent amount in 2019. (Note to self: barely using his Twitter account probably helps.) So a favorite tradition continues with today’s release of his annual viewing and reading log on Extension 765, which has a surprise, oddity, or some-such at nearly every turn.
Favorites include: making it through all 181 hours of Nicolas Winding Refn’s Too Old to Die Young in seven days but taking nearly four months to finish Sergei Bondarchuk’s War and Peace; Chinatown and Richard Lester movies appearing on yet another list; he, too, watching Fleabag; seeing a version of his next movie, Let Them All Talk, just under a month after principal photography commenced. And so on and so forth.

Picking up where the 2014 award-winning documentary, The Breach left off, Mark Titus' new film is an urgent call to action, examining what it means to save what we love. As The Wild demonstrates, the story of salmon is as much about a human way of life and the Northwest's cultural heritage as about protecting a vital food source. Inside of all this is Titus' own intensely personal story of recovery. We live in a time of uncertainty - about the trajectory of our own lives, the lives of generations to come and the continued health of the planet we live on. For millennia, wild salmon have survived ice ages, continental shifts and most destructively, human beings. Their continued existence provides a glint of hope...

On November 22nd, 2005, Bruce Springsteen wrapped up his seven-month Devils and Dust tour with an unforgettable show at the Sovereign Bank Arena in Trenton, New Jersey. Like every night of the tour, this was a solo show where he pivoted between acoustic guitar, piano and organ to deliver a set packed with new tunes, lesser-known songs from his deep catalog and very few hits. And with it being the last night, he went to extreme lengths to make it an unforgettable show by busting out obscurities that only his most devoted fans could possibly recognize.

Mumford & Sons became one of the most unlikely success stories of the 21st century thanks to a sound that combined the ancient authenticity of banjo-hammering folk music and the polished, anthemic pump of modern rock — like a horse and buggy designed in a Tesla factory.

Elvis Costello is feeling just fine, thank you very much. Reports of a “battle with cancer” were wildly exaggerated, he says — earlier this year, doctors found an isolated malignancy, and removed it without complications. He got the news three-quarters of the way into the recording of Look Now, his first album in five years, and, if anything, he just threw himself harder into the process. The album turned out to be his best-received work of this century, combining immaculate, expansively arranged pop compositions (Burt Bacharach and Carole King were collaborators...

Some new information has surfaced regarding Amazon's billion-dollar Lord of the Rings series that fans might find interesting. TheOneRing.net is reporting that they have heard from multiple sources that the series will focus on a young version of Aragon.
Aragorn was previously played by Viggo Mortensen in Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings film trilogy. The character is the last Chieftain of the Dúnedain and a direct descendant through many generations of Isildur, the last High King of both Arnor and Gondor. Aragorn would become the greatest Man of his time, leading the Men of the West against Sauron's forces, helping to destroy the One Ring, and reuniting the Kingdoms of Arnor and Gondor.
There's a whole history behind Aragorn that would be awesome to see explored in a series! For those of you who want a little background on the character and some insight into what the series could entail,...

There's more to handhelds than the Game Boy. We take a look at how mobile gaming has changed over the decades...
It goes without saying that handheld games have come a long way over the past 35 or-so years. From electronic bleepy things that were little more than glorified calculators, portable technology is now almost unrecognisable in 2017.

In the wild frontier of videogames, things seldom remain the same for long. Properties come and go. Company mascots quietly check themselves into retirement homes. Quick-fix, 80s arcade experiences gave way to the kinds of games that lasted eight hours or so in the 90s and 2000s; with many of today's online shooters and RPGs, the constant drip-feeds of content can keep us playing for months.

In the six months since its release, the Nintendo Switch has already matched half of the lifetime sales of the Wii-u. Nintendo's latest earning report says the current lifetime sales of the Switch are at 7.63 million units, and the Wii-u's sales after five years were 13.56 million units. The news is not all that surprising given it's been known all year the Switch has been a runaway success, but apparently, things are so good that Nintendo has now raised their predictions for sales at the end of March from 10 million to 14 million.
Additionally, Nintendo reports they sold 27.48 million units of software, which means the average owner has purchased around 3-4 games for the console. Presumably, one of those titles is either Zelda Breath Of The Wild (4.7 million), Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (4.42 million), or Splatoon 2 (3.5 million). As for Arms, Nintendo reports the game has sold 1.35 million, which is just below the widely panned 1-2 Switch.

When it came to her wedding day, Whitney Bischoff caught a lucky break with some especially compliant weather.
“It was sunny and warm and perfect,” says former Bachelor contestant Bischoff, who wed Ricky Angel at the luxurious Wequassett Resort on Cape Cod on Saturday. “I really do feel like that was my mom’s hand in this. The whole day was everything I dreamed it would be.”
Sunny skies weren’t the only thing the couple’s 150 guests — including fellow Bachelor alums Kaitlyn Bristowe, Shawn Booth, Carly Waddell and Evan Bass — enjoyed at the celebration, which was planned by Always Yours Events.

The Nintendo Switch gets its own major Super Mario game, but is it an essential purchase? We delve into Super Mario Odyssey...
When Nintendo’s athletic mascot celebrated his 30th anniversary in 2015, the event coincided with the release of the charming Super Mario Maker. But as likeable and fun as that Mario construction kit was, it arguably lacked the sense of occasion surrounding a major series entry like Super Mario Galaxy or Super Mario 64. Super Mario Odyssey, on the other hand, feels like a true celebration for such a legendary character.

Link has always been a character of few words, so it almost seems like a joke to say he's had 11 voice actors voice him over the years, but it's absolutely true. We're talking from the time Jonathan Potts first gave the character a speaking role in 1989's The Legend Of Zelda television series, all the way to Breath Of The Wild. Here are some facts on these voice actors who landed the gig of the century as they net money just grunting and screaming their way through a game.
The Most Prevalent Actor In The Franchise Is Sachi Matsumoto
I guess we should say actress, as the female Matsumoto is known for her voicing of "Toon Link" in the Legend Of Zelda franchise. In total Matsumoto has voiced the character in 8 games, and only two of those games are canon (Windwaker and Phantom Hourglass). Hilariously enough, Matsumoto has voiced the...

The beta of Destiny 2 opened last week, and we have a few thoughts...
I stopped playing Destiny about eight months ago, but despite that I’ve managed to clock in over 50-days of playtime! While many modern games struggle to deliver 15 or 20 hours of gameplay, I’ve spent over 1,200 hours in the company of my fellow guardians, battling through a confused and fragmented, yet ultimately compelling universe. Even when you consider that I would have spent around £125 on the game and expansion packs, that’s a pretty incredible return on investment.
When I finally kicked my Destiny habit I found myself playing some other great games that I may have otherwise missed – Zelda: Breath Of The Wild, Resident Evil 7, Dishonored 2, to name but a few – but as Michael Corleone once said, just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in!

I sat down for a demo of Assassin's Creed Origins with two fellow press members and the Lead Game Designer. He walked us through a general lay out of the new control scheme and then let us have our way about the quest at hand.
Points of interest/Questions
Assassin's Creed Origins has revamped the counterattack combat system that’s subsisted through a 10+ title franchise. This mechanical change trickles down and affects the entire control scheme. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, and generally it made combat feel more fluid and mobile (dependent on...

E3 is an exciting time of year for all types of gamers as the show expands into many different categories. Mobile gamers can be excited for new social interactions, and maybe even some new hardware, and of course hardcore gamers can see what the next few years have for them. Here at Cinelinx we are excited for our own reasons and well, we can’t wait to tell you why. Want to know what’s got us excited? Find out after the jump!
Dustin:
Last year, overall, E3 was kind of a dull moment for many reasons. Sure we got a glimpse into Microsoft’s future with Project Scorpio, after the promised they wouldn’t be doing that, but they kind of forgot to bring the unit with them. Sony had a stellar opening showcase and showed off many games, but a majority of them are still unreleased, and undated.

6.12 Zerstorer Shrugged
Here we are – the penultimate episode of Grimm, setting us up for the big showdown with Nick throwing down with an ancient demon in a bid to prevent the end of days.
The writers threw a lot at us, including a returning favourite, the death of others (maybe), a showdown with the Zerstorer, and a potential explanation as to the Stick of Destiny’s powers.
First things first – Diana pulled Nick and Eve back through the portal without realising the Zerstorer planned to hitch a lift back to Portland too. It appears that his plan was to target Eve, knowing Nick would follow, and eventually lead them to potential child-bride Diana.

Understandably, the games industry has taken a keen interest in the progress of Nintendo's brand new system, the Switch. Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild is one of the best videogames ever. And that’s lovely. We've spent a week with Nintendo's successor to the Wii U. Here are our thoughts on the Nintendo Switch so far...
It’s the quirkier touches that separate Nintendo’s best devices from rival console makers. Expected, but no less disappointing to hear. With third-party developers having all but abandoned the Wii U not long after...

As if the very existence of the Nintendo Switch wasn’t confirmation enough that the Wii U was living on borrowed time, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime has confirmed that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will be the last first-party title to be released for the ill-fated console. Speaking to Polygon following the conclusion of last week’s Switch event, Fils-Aime confirmed what many had already assumed to be the case.

At a recent hands-on event, we got to have an early go on Nintendo's brand new console. Here's what we made of the Switch...
It’s fascinating to think that, a decade ago, Nintendo turned the games industry on its head with its hand-waving, vase-breaking, cat-frightening Wii remotes. A decade’s an unfathomably long time in tech, though, and the Wii U comprehensively failed to capture the same audience as its predecessor. You could blame the branding (as with the 3Ds, some would-be consumers initially assumed that the Wii U was an upgrade, not a brand new...

Holy Crap.
Okay, let me start by stating that I've been a "Nintendo guy" since I was 4. My parents got me the Nes when I was four, and I've owned every piece of hardware they've put out since (save for the Virtual Boy. Because...Virtual Boy). I was even one of those people who camped out outside of Nintendo World in Rockefeller Center to get the Wii.
And yet...I was going to pass on Nintendo Switch.
Yeah, it looked pretty cool and interesting. I dug the announcement trailer. But considering I don't game as often as I used to (having two kids will do that to you), and the fact that I think I played my Wii U for a grand total of 37 minutes, I had resigned myself to the idea that the Switch would be the first time I passed on a new Nintendo console.

Late last year, Nintendo ended month after month of speculation with a single video. Through the medium of happy, smiling models pressing buttons and staring at a TV screen, the Japanese giant announced the Nintendo Switch - formerly known under its codename Nx, and the successor to the likeable yet sadly obscure Wii U.
