Star Wars fans rejoice! Rian Johnson’s eagerly-awaited follow-up to 2015′s The Force Awakens is everything you could possibly have wished for and more.
Picking up from where Episode VII left off, Star Wars – Episode VIII: The Last Jedi jumps straight into the action, with ace Resistance star pilot Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) leading a thrilling bombing attack on a First Order Dreadnought. However, the tables are soon turned as the Resistance realise, with sickening horror, that the First Order are capable of tracking them through hyper-space jumps, sending them into a desperate retreat.

“Darkness rises, and light to meet it,” warns evil supreme leader Snoke (Andy Serkis). It’s a fitting summary of Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
When Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) says, “This is not going to go the way you think,” believe him. There is a sequence in The Last Jedi that is so jaw-droppingly satisfying, fans will forever remember the moment they first saw it. There are also well-placed moments of levity that offer laugh-out-loud relief from all the casualties of the long-standing war, like Chewbacca’s chance encounter with the film’s most adorable and cuddly new creatures,...

Sony Classical announces the release of Goodbye Christopher Robin (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) with an original score by Academy Award®-nominated composer Carter Burwell.
The soundtrack will be released digitally on October 13 and on CD on October 27, 2017. The film will be released in the Us on October 13, 2017.
Pre-order here.
Goodbye Christopher Robin is directed by Simon Curtis (My Week with Marilyn, Woman in Gold) and will be released in Us theaters by Fox Searchlight Pictures on October 13, 2017.
Carter Burwell said about the score:
“One of the riskier decisions Simon Curtis and I made with the score was to withhold the main theme until the middle of the film, when A. A. Milne begins to write and his friend Ernest Shepard begins to illustrate “Winnie The Pooh”. We did this to make that moment especially noteworthy, to make it the turning point of the story. Tom Cruise reteams with Edge of Tomorrow director Doug Liman for this slickly entertaining, if slightly familiar comedy thriller based on the true story of pilot-turned-drug smuggler-slash-cia conscript Barry Seale.
American Made begins in 1978, with bored Twa pilot Seale (Cruise) being tapped by CIA agent Schafer (Domhnall Gleeson) to fly covert surveillance missions over Central America. When those missions involve Colombia, Seale is approached by the Medellín Cartel, who offer him large sums of cash if he smuggles cocaine into America.
Things quickly spiral out of control as the CIA task Barry with running Russian guns to the Contras in Nicaragua, only for the Cartel to make him a better offer for them, which he cheerfully accepts. Meanwhile,...

Newly minted blockbuster superstar Gal Gadot was hardly a household name when she was picked to play Wonder Woman in DC’s Extended Universe, including turns in “Batman v Superman” and “Justice League” and a starring role in the studio’s newest smash hit, “Wonder Woman.” Best known to action-loving audiences for her supporting roles in the “Fast and Furious” franchise, the former Israeli soldier is now a bonafide breakout, thanks to her work in the long-awaited and instantly beloved superhero film. Fortunately, she’s not the only actress who made the jump from rising star to tentpole leading lady.

While the 89th Annual Academy Awards were filled with more than its fair share of big surprises and one massive, baffling mishap, there was even more going on behind the scenes and off-camera that viewers at home didn't get a chance to witness.
From A-listers snapping selfies with fans at the bar to nominees taking political stands, here are just a few fun highlights of what you didn't get to see on Sunday:

A number of big stars and Oscar nominees took a strong political stance at the Academy Awards, rocking blue ribbons in support of the American Civil Liberties Union. Update:
Winners are now indicated. I correctly guessed 11 out of the 24 categories, which is slightly better than last year, when I guessed 10 out of 24.
Previous 02.26.17:
I’ve now seen as many of the nominated films as I will be able to before tonight’s ceremony, and here finally are my educated guesses about who will take home each award — projected winners are Xed at the lefthand side. Keep in mind: those Xes don’t represent whom I think should win Oscars but whom I think will win, based on what little I can grasp about how the Academy thinks. I’ve also noted which nominees I think should win. Kindly note that this is not necessarily my take on who did the best performance/writing/FX/whatever of the year, but whom I think is best among the nominees.
I have not noted a “should win” for the feature documentary category,...

As much as the 89th annual Academy Awards were about the celebrities and the fashion, it was also about politics.
From winners to presenters to host Jimmy Kimmel, there were plenty of President Donald Trump-centric moments — and many happened without even saying his name. The broadcast hit on controversial topics including the immigration ban executive order, fake news and a member of Trump’s cabinet.
Here are all the political mentions during Sunday’s show (so far):

Everyone thought it was a joke but it became a historic Oscars gaffe! Presenter Warren Beatty, alongside Faye Dunaway, misread the night's winner and announced "La La Land" as the victorious one, but it was really Barry Jenkins' "Moonlight's" award! Whew! An Oscar first!
Damien Chazelle's "La La Land" ended up receiving six awards from its 14 nominations including best director and actress for Emma Stone.

La La Land, Emma Stone, Hacksaw Ridge and Suicide Squad are all Oscar winners. Here's the full list...
For the 89th time, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences - that'd be AMPAS, to its mates - has handed out its world-famous collection of gongs.
The full list of winners from this year's awards? Right here. Jason Statham, you'll notice, was callously snubbed again. What's more, his shark-fighting movie, Meg, won't be out in time for the 90th Oscars either. Sigh. Those that did win? Well, Suicide Squad is now an Oscar-winning movie, picking up as many gongs as Arrival. Hacksaw Ridge also snagged a couple of gongs, whilst Moonlight triumphed. And - after a confusing moment when Warren Beatty read out the wrong winner (not his fault, we might add) - it ultimately upset La La Land and took Best Picture too.
Here's what won.

The Academy Awards are upon us! Join us as we discuss our Oscar picks and those nominees which deserve to win the most.
There are currently almost 6,000 members in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS). These people are professionals who have worked in the film industry and every year it is their votes which decide the films and individuals which receive Oscar nominations. Each member will select 5 nominees in the category of their work, and they also select nominees for best picture. These votes are tabulated and the people and films that get the most votes end up with the nominations, which are then voted on again by the Academy to select the winners.
It’s not an easy task to sift through hundreds of films a year to determine which ones are the “best”. Consider that each of the nearly 6,000 voters this year brings their own...

Now that the ballots are en route to the 89th Academy Awards, it is time for us to predict who will be the big winners! Damien Chazelle.s .La La Land. dominated the nominations with 14 nods but will it shine on Oscar night at the city of stars? I.m predicting that the romance musical will take home 11 awards including Best Picture! The musical will only lose in the actor (sorry Ryan Gosling), original screenplay, and to its own .Audition. in the original song categories.
And you know why .La La Land. will win big? Because when the country is in turmoil, popular culture swings to the opposite way. And the film, with its sweet rose-colored palette and fancy production numbers made us all happy. And Hollywood wants us all happy.

The battle lines are drawn: It's La La Land, a musical fantasy about white lovers in Hollywood, versus Moonlight, a searing drama about black youth surviving on the streets of Miami. That contest is symptomatic of how serious Oscar is – or isn't – about diversity. After two years in which not a single black actor showed up among the acting nominees, this year's crop includes seven actors of color: Mahershala Ali, Viola Davis, Naomie Harris, Ruth Negga, Dev Patel, Octavia Spencer and Denzel Washington.

La La Land has officially earned a spot in the history books by tying the record for the most Oscar nominations ever — but just how many of those 14 chances will it see a win? This critical darling is widely considered to take home best picture come February 26, which would make it just the 11th musical to do so, so let’s examine how it stands in the other categories by doing a deep dive into the track records of the 10 musicals that took home top honors before it.
These legendary musicals that were all able to garner Hollywood’s top award include: 1929’s The Broadway Melody, 1936’s The Great Ziegfeld, 1944’s Going My Way, 1951’s An American in Paris, 1958’s Gigi, 1961’s West Side Story, 1964’s My Fair Lady, 1965’s The Sound of Music, 1968’s Oliver!, and 2002’s Chicago. Every year the best and brightest from across the global film industry assemble at the Beverly Hilton for the annual Academy nominees lunch and group photo.
This year, 165 nominees showed up.
First, everyone piles into the ballroom for champagne and hobnobbing. Documentary nominee Raoul Peck, whose “I Am Not Your Negro” is kicking it at the box office, was hanging with fellow nominee Ezra Edelman, whose “O.J.: Made in America” won the DGA award on Saturday.
Swedish filmmaker Hannes Holm (“A Man Called Ove”) met with his fellow foreign nominees Sunday night — they were in touch with “The Salesman” director, Asghar Farhadi, who’s boycotting the Oscars — to discuss the Muslim travel ban. He promised to let me know what comes of these ongoing discussions.

Chicago – The film musical “La La Land” received 14 nominations (including Best Picture), tying a record, as all nominees were announced for the 89th Academy Awards on January 24th, 2017. The rest of the Best Pictures nominees were “Arrival,” “Fences,” “Hacksaw Ridge,” “Hell or High Water,” “Hidden Figures,’ “Lion,” “Manchester by the Sea” and “Moonlight.”

“La La Land” is steamrolling into the Oscars, and tied “All About Eve” (1950) and “Titanic” (1997) for most nominations in Oscar history with 14, including Best Picture, Actor, Actress and Director. Other multiple nominations went to the searing drama “Moonlight” (eight) and the stage adaptation “Fences” (four). Also notable is that six African American actors will compete for Oscars, one year after the #OscarsSoWhite controversy.

The Academy Award nominations were announced early this morning, and you can read Joey's thoughts about them over at that link. I wanted to offer a few other quick observations before I get to my predicitions: Mel Gibson seems to have gotten a pass from the Academy for his extra-curricular behavior because his film Hacksaw Ridge secured six nominations (including a Best Director nod), Moonlight thankfully got some well-deserved recognition with eight nominations, and Hidden Figures earned three nominations, including one for Best Picture. I was happy to see Arrival, my favorite film of 2016, with eight nominations, but disappointed that Meryl Streep got a Best Actress nomination for Florence Foster Jenkins over Amy Adams' incredible work in Arrival.
Below, you'll find the full list of nominees with my prediction for the winner in bold text. These are not necessarily the movies that I personally want to win, but the...

The nominations for the 89th Academy Awards are in and La La Land leads the pack with 14 nominations! I knew La La Land was going to explode at this event, and it's probably going to end up taking home many of the awards is was nominated for. The 14 nominations ties the record with 1997's Titanic and 1950's All About Eve.
Arrival ended up with eight nominations as did Moonlight, while Hacksaw Ridge, Lion, and Manchester by the Sea all got six. Deadpool ended up with zero nominations. I was hoping to see it somewhere on the list, but it looks like all that hype didn't work.
Every film and actor who was nominated for their work deserves to be on this list, so congratulations to them all! There are so many great films and actors to root for, but there can be only one winner in each category.

It's time to start your guesses, as this morning brings about the nominations for this year's Academy Awards. As always, there are some surprises and more than a few head-scratching snubs. Come inside to check out the full list of nominations!
It's that time of year again, where we all debate what the best movies of the past year were. One thing we can agree with, however, is not understanding why the Academy nominates certain things they way they do. This year brings about a refreshing turn-around in the wake of "Oscars so White", but that doesn't stop it from presenting some seriously big snubs this time around.
Below you can find the full list of this year's nominations and begin your guessing now, before the big show happens on February 26th. If you're not happy with the choices this year, be sure to check out Our Cinelinx Movie Awards...

The glitz, the glamour, the gift baskets that do as much to sway voters as a slaved-over work of art — it’s the 89th Academy Awards! AMPAS unveiled their take on the year that was 2016, which adds up, expectedly, to many of the names and endeavors we’ve seen fêted over the last few months. (We’ve done our part, too, and think you’ll be much better-served following us than them.)
Due to a conscious choice to avoid awards chatter around these here parts, we’re not going to change things up more or less at the last minute. We instead will just get to the list (via Washington Post), which is topped by La La Land with 14 nominations, and so:

For the second year in a row, the Gay and Lesbian Entertainment Critics Association (Galeca) have rallied around an obvious favorite: “Moonlight.” Last year, Todd Haynes’s “Carol” swept Galeca’s Dorian Awards, and from its prominence amongst the nominees announced today, “Moonlight” will likely do the same.

Judging by its very strong Oscar chances, the enthusiasm for “Moonlight” has overshadowed all other worthy queer films. “The Handmaiden” was notably absent from the Oscar short list for Best Foreign Language Film, and the other three Dorian nominees are not in contention at all.

Damien Chazelle's "La La Land" made history at the 74th Annual Golden Globes winning all 7 nominations including Best Picture Musical/Comedy! The film won Best Actor (Ryan Gosling), Actress (Emma Stone), Director, Screenplay, Score, and Song! Previously, "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" was the record-holder for winning 6/6 and both "Doctor Zhivago" and "A Star is Born" 5 for 5.
A big congrats to Chazelle and "La La Land!"
The biggest upset for me? Natalie Portman's "Jackie" performance was overshadowed by Isabelle Huppert in "Elle." I thought Portman, wigs and make-up included, embodied the role of our former First Lady!
In the TV category, "The Night Manager" was the big winner taking home three awards (mostly for performance for Tom Hiddleston, Olivia Colman, and Hugh Laurie), followed by "The People v O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story" and "The Crown" each with two.
