It’s the season of reunions! Emraan Hashmi and Mallika Sherawat’s duo are known for their sizzling chemistry and chartbuster movies. However, the two fell out years ago during the shooting of Murder itself. However, they recently had a reunion at an event, which is generating buzz all around.
Hashmi and Sherawat appear to have reconciled. The two actors first met during film producer Anand Pandit’s daughter’s wedding celebration in Mumbai. Fans of the couple, who formerly made one of the best on-screen couples, were overjoyed to see them reunited after 20 years.
A Fan left a remark on an Instagram video saying, “Best, Jodi. Bring the time of the murder movie back,” said another commenter. A fan also commented, “Iconic pair…no one can ever forget.”

Actress Mallika Sherawat will soon be seen in a digital show titled "Booo.. Sabki Phategi", a horror-comedy. She says in her initial days in the film industry, filmmakers were interested in exploring her "bold" image rather than acting skills and never found her a good fit as a "Bollywood heroine".
The actress, who got famous for her bold scenes in the 2004 film Murder, has been living with the tag of a "bold" heroine.
The image of women in the entertainment industry is changing. Sharing her opinion on it, Mallika Sherawat told the publication here: "It is such a progressive step towards a positive direction?now I feel that the film industry is much inclusive for women rather than the earlier days when I started out. These days filmmakers are thinking of writing multi-dimensional roles for women in cinema."

Deadline is reporting that Jennifer Chambers Lynch (Surveillance, Hisss) will direct an upcoming psycho killer flick called Hellfest. The flick was written by The Walking Dead Ep Gale Anne Hurd. Hellfest involves a Halloween night of fun turns deadly at a horror theme park when a costumed killer begins slaying unsuspecting patrons who believe that it’s all part of the show. CBS Films president Terry Press said her company has “loved the concept of Hellfest since Gale brought it to us and we have been waiting for exactly the right director. Jennifer came to us with both the passion and the vision necessary to make Hellfest a terrifying Halloween tradition much like the growing phenomenon of the theme park horror nights enjoyed by...

Although relatively scarce, horror movies directed by women are out there. You may have to turn over a few rocks to know who they are and their material might be a little more difficult to get your hands on, but these directors deserve just as much attention and scrutiny as their male counterparts, who have long dominated the genre. The following discusses selections of female directors’ forays into the business of terror. (This post contains spoilers)
Antonia Bird
The late director Antonia Bird’s Ravenous is a bizarre amalgamation of humor and horror that explores cannibalism with warped nuance. The strangely cacophonous score builds up tension as craven outcasts face a glutinous and depraved attacker whose strength seems fortified by his consumption of human flesh. Set during America’s westward expansion, the metaphor of humanity’s insatiable appetite for power is plain to see, but its execution indulges in such...

Do you remember Hisss? As the follow-up to Jennifer Lynch’s acclaimed serial killer thriller Surveillance, the production saw the filmmaker attempt to tell the story of a shape-shifting snake woman of Indian folklore. Mumbai, Oct 7: Bollywood actress Mallika Sherawat rues that directors do not take her seriously because of her glamorous image; as a result she has no challenging roles in her kitty.
"I think because of my glamorous image, the serious directors do not take me seriously. I really hope they take me seriously and some challenging roles come to me," Mallika said in an interview.
"It doesn't have to be a full-fledged main role, even a supporting role (would do). But it should have some acting scope in it," she added.
Besides Bollywood films like "Murder" and "Pyaar Ke Side Effects", she has featured in Hollywood films like "The Myth" and "Hisss".
Currently, she is all set to debut on TV with "The Bachelorette.

It must be hard to be the daughter of one of the most acclaimed and idiosyncratic media personalities of all time.
Sofia Coppola has managed to step out of her father’s shadow and forge what might eventually be a more impressive career than dear old dad. Duncan Jones sidestepped music altogether, changed his name and now directs films a world away (more or less) from his dad David Bowie’s music or film career. Jennifer Lynch hasn’t yet managed to make anything that has measured up to father David’s 30 odd years of directing.
She was off to a poor start with Boxing Helena, a widely panned turkey notable only for a lawsuit involving original star Kim Basinger. Some 15 years later she would come back to directing with Surveillance, a step in the right direction but a film lacking a satisfactory third act that felt heavily in debt to her Dad’s films.

★★★☆☆ After the difficulties of making Hisss (2010), an audacious horror filmed in both Hindi and English, erratic director Jennifer Lynch returns to the murky psychological landscapes of Surveillance (2008) with Chained (2012); a chilling exploration of the nature versus nurture argument in the context of how monsters are created. It's difficult not to admire the film's conceptual ambition and considered subversion of genre tropes despite being hindered by its brief but puzzling retreats into more conventional territory. Chained opens with Sarah (Julia Ormond) and her 9-year-old son Tim (Evan Bird) being kidnapped by cab driver Bob (Vincent D'Onofrio).

When I sit down to interview Jennifer Lynch, I immediately fess up that I haven't seen her 2010 film Hisss, which seemed to be another one of those many attempts to make a song and dance about trying to appeal to both Bollywood and Hollywood audiences and ended up appealing to neither. It was shot in India with an Indian and American cast.

Director Jennifer Lynch.s new horror film Chained will be playing at 7pm at the Tivoli this Friday night as part of the St. Louis International Film Festival. Lynch, who will be in attendance, has lived through her own horror stories the past couple of decades since making her directorial debut in 1993 with Boxing Helena. The dark comedy about a doctor who removes the limbs of his shapely neighbor and places her in a box on his dining-room table, was critically savaged, a financial flop, and led to a highly-publicized lawsuit involving its original star Kim Bassinger. Ms Lynch then went through a series of painful spinal surgeries, the result of being hit by a car when she was 19. It was fifteen years before she was able to mount another directorial outing with Surveillance (2008), a mind-bender about the quest for truth in a...

The pair gave us their thoughts on making a character driven horror film, moving away from the "torture porn" style that the film was originally written in, and Lynch fills us in on her upcoming documentary (about the making of Hisss) Despite the Gods.
Chained hits DVD and Blu-ray on Tuesday, October 2nd and tells the story of Bob (D’Onofrio), a cab-driving serial killer who stalks his prey on the city streets alongside his reluctant protégé Tim, who must make a life or death choice between following in Bob's footsteps or breaking free from his captor.

When you’re Jennifer Lynch, daughter of cult director David Lynch, what else are you going to do with your life but get into the film business and start directing movies like “Boxing Helena”, “Hisss”, and “Chained”, about a boy and his serial killer captor who raises him from boy to adult? Exactamundo. Anyhoo, check out two clips from Lynch’s “Chained” if you’ve got a few minutes to spare. If not, eh, keep on moving, then, I guess. It’s your loss. Coming home from a routine trip to the movies, eight-year-old Tim (Bird) and his mother, Sarah (Ormond) are picked up by a psychopathic cab driver named Bob (D’Onofrio). It ends up being their last ride together. Bob murders the young boy’s mother and keeps Tim as his unwilling protégée, making him clean up the mess following each murder he commits. After a couple of aborted escape attempts,...

While initially recognised for being the daughter of noted offbeat auteur David Lynch, director Jennifer Lynch has been working on building a reputation of her own amongst the film community. While her most well-known effort, 2010′s Hisss, gained more publicity for the myriad production issues rather than the finished product, her newest effort, titled Chained, has been turning heads for all the right reasons. Following the twisted relationship between a serial killer and the captive he treats as his successor, the movie stars Eamon Farren and Vincent D’Onofrio in the lead roles, alongside Julia Ormond, Evan Bird, Gina Philips, and Conor Leslie. Two new clips from the movie have now been released, and can be seen below. For those interested further in the film, Sos correspondent Michael Ryan was able to view this film at Fantasia 2012, and his review can be read here.

Featuring: Jennifer Lynch, Sydney Lynch, Govind Menon, Mallika Sherawat
Anyone who's ever made a film knows how hellish a movie shoot can be. But few can imagine just how nightmarish things were for Jennifer Lynch when she shot Hisss…until now.
With Despite the Gods, Penny Vozniak chronicles the incredible determination of a woman who set out to direct a fun genre movie, but ended up having to constantly reaffirm her authority as a director. Hired to shoot behind the scene material for the film's Epk, Vozniak quickly became Lynch's confidant as it became clear that production would be anything by smooth. Thus, Vozniak took what would have been, for any other filmmaker, a golden opportunity to make an exploitative documentary about someone breaking down and, instead, created a film that is insightful and offers a candid portrait of a great, often misunderstood filmmaker.

To celebrate their 13th anniversary this year, the Melbourne Underground Film Festival is going green!
No, they’re not out to save the kookaburra or anything. Instead, they’re hosting a special tribute to the New Irish Low Budget Cinema, featuring two films by acclaimed filmmaker Ivan Kavanagh, plus work by Colin Downey, Gary Kenneally and Gerard Lough.
Muff will host a repeat screening of Kavanagh’s celebrated thriller Tin Can Man — it previously screened at Muff in 2008 — as well as his latest film, The Fading Light. The three other Irish films screening all fall into the horror/thriller genres, from Downey’s The Looking Glass to Kenneally’s Stephen King adaptation The Boogeyman and Lough’s trilogy-ending The Shaken 3. And, in addition, the entire fest kicks off with the opening night Irish thriller Charlie Casanova by Terry McMahon.

"This is mayhem. This is India. Isn't it beautiful?" This observation to the camera, uttered by a crew member at one point during a bit of down-time during the shooting of Bollywood horror-fantasy Hisss, nearly encapsulates things in a single thought. A rare Us/India co-production involving an indie director Jennifer Lynch, and collaborating with significant Bollywood stars Mallika Sherawat and Irrfan Kahn, featured a six million dollar budget an and heavy media spotlight. Chaos and confusion is nothing new to film sets (or any creative process) but Lynch seems ill prepared for the trial-by-fire culmination the language barrier with her Indian crew, a producer who is the Bollywood super-star's brother, and the seemingly never-ending battle with nature, cities and the culture. Anchor Bay has revealed a green band trailer for Jennifer Lynch's latest thriller Chained, which we recently told you is arriving on DVD October 2nd.
Vincent D'Onofrio toplines the cast which also includes Jeepers Creepers' Gina Phillips (welcome back to the genre fold, Gina). Lynch saw a somewhat decent return with Surveillance, but then things turned sour with Hisss, which was a disaster and the result of...a lot of factors, including the film reportedly being taken out of Lynch's hands in the editing room.
Looking at the trailer for Chained, there appears to be some anger behind it for sure. Also, is it me or is D'Onofrio channeling his Men in Black "I'm an alien wearing an Edgar suit" drawl?

I knew Vincent D’Onofrio was secretly moonlighting as a serial killer. I mean, just look at the guy. Am I right? Not just any serial killer, either, but the kind that would kill some kid’s mother, take the kid home with him, and then use the kid not for some sexual gratification or some other sick, twisted thing, but as free labor. Cause, you know, he’s a kooky guy like that. That’s the premise of “Chained”, the new psychological horror flick from director Jennifer Lynch, who if you’ve seen the documentary “Despite the Gods” that chronicles the shooting of her movie “Hisss”, then you know this is exactly the type of stuff the lass was born to make. From the mind of writer/director Jennifer Lynch comes the shocker that panicked ratings boards and stunned audiences worldwide: When he was 9 years old, Tim and his...

An adolescent’s sixteenth birthday marks a turning point in life when maturation occurs at a much more rapid pace and the teenager begins to be faced with difficult and important decisions that will shape their future. The same can be said of Montreal’s Fantasia International Film Festival, set to kick off its sixteenth edition tomorrow: its Super Sweet Sixteen promises to be nothing if not interesting. That’s not to say that the main focus of North America’s largest genre film festival is changing; in fact, between prolific director Takashi Miike’s festival opener For Love’s Sake – fresh from Cannes and having its North American premiere – and the Canadian premiere of animation studio Laika’s Paranorman, which closes the fest three weeks later, filmgoers will have a whopping 160 films from around the world to choose from. Sitges eat your heart out.

For even the most seasoned festival goer, the Fantasia Film Festival presents a daunting challenge. With over 160 films playing, it is impossible to see everything and compromise is not an option but a necessity. For the cinematic adventurer, however, Fantasia is a gold-mine: bringing to the forefront some of the strangest, smallest and craziest of genre cinema to the big screen. The success rate is not always high, but the joy of discovering an unexpected gem outweighs any disappointment that may be encountered on your adventures through the trenches of obscurity.
That being said, my most anticipated films of the festival combine the more highly anticipated works with some stranger more unpredictable entries. Be sure to check out the Fantasia website for a full list of films and leave a comment with your own list of anticipated features!

For those that are confused (which would obviously include me) the column that has the url: http://www.soundonsight.org/fantasia-2012-mike-ryans-five-most-anticipated-films/ is actually my column on the five films that I am most upset to be Missing.
This is my column on five seven films that I am most looking forward to:
1) Takashi Miike (For Love’s Sake and Ace Attorney)
For Love’s Sake (2012) Written by Takayuki Takuma, Ikki Kajiwara, Takumi Nagayasu, Directed by Takashi Miike
You really only need three words to sell For Love’s Sake: Takashi. Miike. Musical.
But here are a few more words…
Takashi Miike is beloved by the Fantasia crowd for pushing the boundaries of genre filmmaking in films like Audition, Visitor Q and Ichi the Killer, but I tend to prefer Miike when he is working in a specific sub-genre where he is forced to subvert the conventions at play in more subtle ways,...

While Ricky, Edgar, Justine and myself work on our pieces about the films that we are most looking forward at this year’s Fantasia Film Festival, I thought that I would talk about the experience that every film-goer to Fantasia experiences: the films that for one reason or another you have to miss.
Sometimes it is because a screening sells out before you can get tickets. That will be especially heart-breaking this year, because in past years, Fantasia has deliberately programmed some Tba screenings so that they could replay films that sold out. This year with 160 feature films there is absolutely no flex, so if a screening sells out, you are probably not going to be able to see the film (at least at Fantasia.)
But even if you are the first person in line to buy tickets and have an unlimited budget, you have to face the fact that...

For filmmaker Jennifer Lynch, daughter of renowned director David Lynch, it was a long 15 years between her Razzie Award-winning directorial debut Boxing Helena and her sophomore feature Surveillance, winner of Best Film at Sitges in 2008. Despite The Gods is a documentary that follows the filming of her third feature, the Bollywood film Hisss (originally titled 'Nagin, The Snake Goddess'), a movie about 'a snake who becomes a girl who becomes a snake' that was to be 'an admiration of sensual sexual female bravery' in Lynch's own words. In Despite The Gods, we see Lynch working hard and passionately through the long shooting schedule under adverse filming conditions. She comes across as a genuinely nice person with a big heart and wicked sense of humor,...

Jennifer Lynch’s laugh sounds just like you’d expect it to: full of mischievous fun, raspy and more than a little dirty. It’s refreshing to hear that even after her savaged 1993 film debut “Boxing Helena” and a string of spinal surgeries that kept her from making another movie for 15 years, she’s still eager to unleash that laugh, even at her own expense. Her next two films, “Surveillance” (2008) and “Hisss” (2010), failed to find audiences, and “Chained” has run afoul of an Nc-17 rating from the MPAA before it can be released. Nothing has quite gone her way, despite being the only daughter of “Blue Velvet” writer-director David Lynch. Even so, the 44-year-old writer-director is moving forward with her next project, a thriller called “A Fall From Grace” that stars Un Certain Regard jury president Tim Roth as a St. Louis detective tortured by his inability to stop a killer of young.

Tim Roth is currently busy cramming in as much movie-viewing as he can in between meeting with his fellow judges on the Un Certain Regard jury in Cannes. But he’s also locked in a new starring role, signing on to lead Jennifer Lynch’s new film, A Fall From Grace. The movie, written by Eric Wilkinson, finds Roth as a homicide detective tracking down a serial killer. But there’s more to it than that, according to the director. “It’s about a lot of dark, taboo issues, but it’s really a drama about wounds,” Lynch tells The Hollywood Reporter. She’ll be hoping for better luck than with her last effort, Bollywood horror action thriller Hisss, which faced major issues during production (chronicled in documentary Despite The Gods) and arrived to poisonous reviews. The director also has serial killer thriller Chained awaiting release.Roth will next be seen in Arbitrage and Broken.

John Gilling's The Reptile seems a prosaic enough Hammer Horror production on paper. A toothsome, venomous horror stalks a remote Cornish village, preying on anyone who wanders up to the manse late at night or takes a wrong turn on the moor. Add some slightly ill-considered exoticism to the mix - the savage cults of the East and their heathen magical rites, so on, so forth - and you'd think this was a sixties take on Jennifer Lynch's disastrous Hisss.Despite the threadbare effects, though, and an ending that staggers across the finish line, The Reptile is an oddly restrained, moving, even genuinely eerie little film from the cult production house. No gore, scream queens, heaving cleavage or flirtation with softcore fanservice (okay, don't all leave...

"Despite the Gods"
Aussie filmmaker Penny Vozniak's "Lost in La Mancha"-esque documentary “Despite The Gods," following director Jennifer Lynch and her experiences making her third film in India, is a low budget docu-delight. Lynch is the beating, empathic heart of the film, an endearing combination of raw emotional honesty and self-deprecating humor. After surviving a critical flogging at 19 for her first film "Boxing Helena," and enjoying the relative success of her second film "Surveillance," Lynch still had a lot to prove with her third film. However it is clear from day one this will not be the film she envisions it to be. The film in question is "Hisss," a Bollywood action tale of a snake that turns into a woman, and then back again. Though Vozniak's film is an interesting look behind the scenes at some the challenges of being an American director shooting in India (no...

Back in 2010, Mallika Sherawat was seen raving about her then to be released "Hollywood" flick Hisss, not just in India but also at Cannes film festival. The film which was originally set to be directed by Jennifer Lynch took a turn for the worse during its making with Lynch being ousted by none other than Mallika's brother Vikram Singh, who was also the film's producer. However now, more than a year later, Lynch who is visibly still fuming with the farce that Hisss created, will be lashing out at Mallika, her brother Vikram Singh and Govind Menon, through a documentary film titled Despite The Gods. Directed by Penny Vozniak, Despite The Gods, is a documentary that showcases the behind the scenes of what went wrong with Lynch and her Indian tryst while shooting Hisss and will open in Toronto this year.
