Unfortunately the finale for the season was not able to be completed due to the virus, so the original penultimate became the finale. This episode gave us Miranda's origin story, which I found to be quite interesting, especially since it ended on a huge twist. The rest of the DP face off against former imaginary friends. Each of these friends are amusing but also help the character in their season long arc. Of course since it is setting up a finale it ends on a big cliffhanger that I was confused by. Hopefully once next season begins everything will be cleared up.

Good but not great

Warning: Spoilers
This episode felt more like the penultimate episode rather then a season finale. But I cannot blame the showrunners as it was intended as the second last episode but due to COVID-19 it became the finale.
This episode focused more on the everyone's own problems rather then facing The Candlemaker (although it did tease the final fight right at the end), the main villain of the season, which is why it felt weak as a season finale. Although we did get a good backstory to Miranda, and the origin to Jane which was the best part of the episode.
The ending of the epsiode doesn't feel like we are left with a cliffhanger but rather a lot of unresolved plot-lines which is quite bothering to the audience i.e. Cyborg and Ronnie Cliff and Clara Niles disease Dorothy vs Candlemaker
So if I am going to give this episode a rating it would be in two categories 1.) As a season finale = 8/10 2.) As a normal episode = 9.5/10

Yes, it'd be nice if they could do episode 10. But they couldn't. So putting out this episode 9, was the best they could do. Otherwise folks would be complaining that episode 8 ended with nothing even left hanging on a cliff.
Was the episode okay? Parts were good, parts were bad. Things like Larry not having an imaginary friend didn't make much sense, but it's hard to believe that plot point would have made more sense if they had another episode. It seems more like the writers not having enough time or imagination to squeeze Larry and his emotional subplots in. Maybe a case of too many to fit in, when that could have taken an entire episode.
Did anyone get a resolution? No. Rita is still dealing with her role as a superhero, Larry still has several decades of guilt burdening him, Vic remains a man-child. Roni is nowhere to be seen.
Were there good parts? Sure. The creepy wax-enshrouded fair, and Cliff in general whether he's is unleashing more rounds of cursing, or fighting Jesus. And even the creepiness of Roxy, and the weirdness of Doctor Cowboy, aka Phil Morris in a more light-hearted role than usual.
The only character who got a decent plotline was Jane, as we find out more about Miranda. That ended on a cliffhanger of sorts, too, with "Miranda" revealed as something other than another alter in Kay's subconscious. But it gave Diane Guerrero a lot to do, and Jane got a Me, Too moment as she chastises the free love men as control freaks. It doesn't say much for the women of the 60s, who apparently bought into men controlling them.
So overall, "Wax Patrol" was a decent episode given the circumstances. Yes, the episode cuts off abruptly, but the DC Universe stuff already underwent that with season 1-2 of 'Titans'. The DC stuff has already been subject to rescheduling and interrupted cliffhangers. So seeing it happen now is old hat.
But that's just my opinion, I could be wrong. What do you think?

This ain't the MCU

This is a story about people not super heroes. This is a story of pain and trauma and how these characters deal with it. Whether you're an 11 year old girl whose imaginary friends come to life or the brain of a man in a robot, somehow the characters in this show are very relatable. This episode was about Jane and her ongoing battle within herself. If you came her for action and adventure you're watching the wrong show!
GREAT FINALE FOR BEING SHORT ONE EPISODE!!!

Warning: Spoilers
I know people will be disappointed that this is a season finale. But due to covid 19 they weren't able to finish filming the 10th episode of the season.
This episode was truly great the Maria flashback was entertaining. We also see Jane after Maria left. The twist with Maria was great, Maria is dead and Kay's father is now in Maria's body.
All the scenes with the doom patrol and their imaginary friends were great. It showed what our heroes have been struggling with this season and the whole series. The part with Cliff and Jesus was hilarious though.
The ending with everyone Turing into wax and Dorthy going to fight candlemaker was so crazy and good. Obviously we were supposed to get one more episode with Dorthy and the team defeating candlemaker. But it was still a really good finale and leaves us on a big cliffhanger.
Can't wait for this series to get renewed for a third season.

10 to try and bring the average up!

This brilliant show deserves a better average score than it gets on IMDB thanks to a few reviewers who didn't notice the global pandemic getting in the way of the season finale...
As for those of you who just don't like this show, you have my sympathies...
Weak season finale
jeffreylwatson-442246 February 2022
This episode would be fine except that it is supposedly a season finale. Nothing plays well to up the tension into a proper cliffhanger. It was apparent to me that Dorothy has to be the solution to the Candlemaker. But Niles crying out Dorothy over and over at the end was too flat. This is the lowest rating I've given an ep of The Doom Patrol so far.

Warning: Spoilers
First of all, a fantastic show!
I really like the darkness and strangeness, the actors and characters are exciting.
I liked the first season a lot more despite some very high peeks this season but the ending of the final episode was abysmal.
NEVER EVER end a season final with a cliffhanger!
I will recommend ppl to see the first season of Doom Patrol but not the second since it's only frustrating.
I will continue watching this show and think it's the second best super hero show there is, after 'the Boys'. There's a lot going on with the characters and it's going to be interesting to see if Cliff gets a brand new humanoid body when they put him together next season and if Larry learns to control his negative spirit as the Russian astronaut. I'm hoping to see even more from Rita Farr next season, not because her story is that interesting, but because she might be the sexiest woman on TV :)

Poorly written Episode; Incomplete Season; Disastrous Finale for a wonderful show
spasticfreakshow7 August 2020
Even though there's more than one show's share of angst for a season in every episode of Doom Patrol, the characters have grown on us and the dark, zany weirdness is like no other show. But...this episode has the team totally wasting their time/angst for absolutely no reason/purpose whatsoever, for people who couldn't care less about them, which is distressing bc through all of their character development, it shows that none of them have learned anything at all. That's the saddest thing so far.
Sure, this was meant to be the penultimate episode of the season, so the fact that it feels like it cuts off mid-show due to a technical failure (you're expecting to hear 'this is a test of the emergency broadcasting system' it's that abrupt) could be attributed to this episode having been always intended as a depressing cliffhanger for the finale, but...no. Even as a standalone episode, it doesn't work, and it fails the series as a whole. Jane/Miranda's memories are the only saving grace of the entire episode. THE ONLY.
UGH. They should not have released this episode at ALL, when they realized their mistakes with the writing in the editing room/cutting process, and THEN the studio should have delayed release of the season until this episode and the finale could be shot.
An unsatisfying disservice to the show, and to the audience.

Cliffhanger (no pun intended)
theironduck21 February 2021
I guess I now know the feeling of the old cliffhanger serials of yesteryear, with the question of how the heroes will cope with the dastardly situation only to see the dreaded "to be continued" on screen. This was much easier knowing we only had to wait a week (or hit the next button for us latecomers who are binge watching the series), but due to the pandemic we have to wait. Arrghh!
While this is far from the best episode of the Patrol, that is like saying it is an average van Gogh in a special exhibition of van Goghs. The key element of the series, the characters, are advanced. The plot twists / reveals are unique. The humor is bizarre. The confrontations make sense. It makes you wonder what would happen if you were there. I still love the fact that everyone is not in lock step and they argue about what will be the next best thing to do.
And it all leads to the how will the writers get themselves out of this one. I think I have the way out to solve at least part of this, but that qualifies as fan theory. Not the best episode, but still far better than most of what is available.

A BIT MORE WEIRD
alcantaraj-165944 February 2022
With set ups made the previous season, season 2 of "Doom Patrol" is able to breathe more. Despite fewer episodes and a new character named Dorothy, the season is able to double down on the weirdness, and that is a good thing.
What even happened in this episode?
SuperRen38837 August 2020
Pretty much nothing happened in this episode and it's the finale? I guess we get to see how useless they are against the big bad and the show ends on a very unfinished note. I thought it was about half over then it ended and that's really not what I have come to expect from this show.
Not really sure
kcrateau7 August 2020
After comparing to other dysfunctional Family Syfy from us, I'm not sure if that I really love this show or this episode. The entire series has intrigued me, but there have been so many twists and turns that don't seem to add to the story line that I can't say that I love this show any more
MCU is way better than this crap

Jane has to be the most annoying character ever. Same with most of the cast. Not to mention that the whole cast feel cookie cutter. Yeah I shed no tears for the characters and any of what they went through. I just don't care at all
