This has to be one of my favorite episodes that explores Clark and Lana's love. Ever since Season 1, Lana was always the girl next door who Clark loved and he was willing everything to do anything to protect her, except in this episode, she no longer needs that protection. Gaining superhuman abilities as a result of the Prometheus Suit that she now inhabits, Lana is now on par with Clark's abilities and as a result they can now commit the act which is barely ever named on the series(which I find hilarious): sex. Yeah, I have read people's comments on how making Tom Welling do so on the show is somehow defacing the Clark Kent icon of an hero, but seriously they just made the show more realistic by doing so and it shows how much Clark and Lana love each other.

Anyways, another cool part was that they introduced the Toy Maker and brought back Lex (not played by Michael Rosenbaum however) for a little bit. Showing how Oliver and Clark veer off their same path is pretty interesting to watch since it stays true to the comics, but Oliver blowing up Lex's truck was totally unexpected. If you have been following Smallville since Season 1, it truly is heart-breaking watch Lana and Clark say their goodbyes. It was a good way of letting Lana leave the show and I applaud the producers for doing it in such a way.

Love, hate, violence, sacrifice, pain, suffering, and endless tears are all in here. It was an amazing episode. My vote is 10.

I am longtime devotee to the Smallville franchise. I took a long hiatus from the show and only recently came back when I purchased seasons 8 through 10 on DVD.

I cannot tell you how excited I am that Clark and Lana are finally over. Oh dear god their love problems while initially cute and endearing, became the ball and chain that weighed down the progress of the show.

The writers of the show have done well to end their relationship in this manner. While the two of them will never be together, devotees of the are left with the memory of the passionate and tumultuous love the shared. Simultaneously, it brings closure and allows show devotees (and Clark and Lana) to move on to a future that contains more opportunities of love.

This episode gets a 10 for one reason and one reason only, we finally got rid of Lana Lang for good. She's so infuriating and irritating. She's legitimately psychotic for using that suit, she comes back at the worst possible time and screws with Lois and Clark who every person who knows anything about Superman knows is endgame. I mean come on, absorbing kryptonite and being forced to never go near Clark again is what made the two realize they don't belong together. I would've thought that would happen after Lana married Lex and then became obsessed with him, she was nuts

I can not explain to you have much I hated that character.

I went into this show, knowing Lana was there temporarily. In each versions of the story, it was about Lois and Clark. But that doesn't mean writers had to rush his first love from the script either. I honestly don't get the hate they are getting, because both actors had a flawless chemistry, and the way writers wrote their love story, was memorable. Young love at its finest. I know, they annoyed me at one point, but you can't help but get sucked into this relationship. And feel sad during the finale breakup scene, at the end of the episode. Which has a poetic ring to it, when Lana literally became Clark's kryptonite, after years of wearing a piece of it around her neck. It is clear she had a big role to play in Clark's life, and the (super) man he's becoming. So it was a prerequisite of the story that needed to be addressed accordingly. So far I'm really liking season 8, even the heavy comic book tone of Legion didn't make me cringe like Justice did on season 6. Speaking of which, it has been served for Lex, which is pretty long overdue, considering Rosenbaum wasn't playing him anymore. However, it would've been a shame to miss his ultimate revenge, against both his former best friend and the girl/woman they loved. And I found it interesting how « Requiem » raised the question of morals between the group of vigilantes. And see everyone willing to sacrifice theirs, for Clark's Salvation. Of course since Lana's return, the episodes featured great ballads, and « Goodnight, Travel Well », is another example of music highlight of the season with « Empty Road ». It's a very important chapter that closes, and regardless of the heavily serialized format Smallville took since it aired on the CW, I'm glad it was done with respect to previous seasons events.

I'm so relieved that the Lana thing is finally over. Any more of those two staring at each other in agony would BE agony. Good Lord. And the Lex character couldn't go more quickly for me. The bottom fell out of the show when Michael Rosenbaum left. Please return to the Lois and Clark story, as bringing Lana back was unnecessary and annoying.

Yeah, it is a quite important episode, THAT's for sure. Two BIG things, that were the core for this show since the very first episode, are finished; the Lana & Clark romance that dragged (yes, DRAGGED) on for 7,5 seasons, and Lex Luther's arc, Clark's greatest nemesis, but started as his best friend. I can't believe they actually killed off the character. A Superman/boy story without Lex is like a bar without beer... Yes, I know, Rosenbaum, who did a greattt Lex Luthor job, decided to leave the show (whyyy!) - but they could have easily worked it out other ways. For example, just keeping the Lex myth going on, like they did so far in season 8, and let the viewers believe he's still the one behind the scenes, pulling the strings. If they dragged the love story about Lana & Clark for sooo freakin' long up until she get superpowered herself so she can finally bang Clark again and help him in the saving, I'm pretty sure they can pull this off for just 3 seasons... Haven't seen the next 2 seasons yet, but they could have connected the story about the Prometheus suit until the show's final, where Rosenbaum returns, and building it up that Lex finally gets a hold of the kryptonite powered suit from Lana and using it against Clark in a final battle... OR, just get a real good lookalike decent actor for some episodes, which would be believable with a story about Lex massive plastic surgery due to his injuries... Just ANYTHING but NOT kill him off, with him sitting trapped and injured in a truck (and by Green latex Arrow, of all people, wtf?!)...

Okay, but then again, it wás kinda a good way to end the Lana arc, with one last victory from Lex.... I felt so bad for Lois, everyone, both the plot and one creating it, just ignores like she doesn't exist anymore since a couple of episodes....while that build up towards that almost kiss in 'Bride', was great. But BAM! Gone... And not a word about Davis and Doomsday for some time...weird. Only Lana was clearly important here. Also, it seems they didn't really look into working another way around to diffuse the bomb (as there álways is one!)...for a love that lasted 7,5 years, they decide a bit too fast in my opinion. But hey yeah, it is and always will be, a teen SHOW lol...

But this episode, cause of the above, somehow sorta feels then like the show's final...or ar least a Smallville 'before' this, and the Smallville 'after' this episode. Still can't wait to watch Rosenbaum's final appearance - glad he at least did that for the fans!

With this episode, Lana's story in Smallville finally reaches the end. And in some ways, so Lex Luthor's part. But it wasn't the best way, or the proper way. The toyman, working for Lex, kills all the persons in charge of Luthorcorp, except for Oliver (who manages to survive the explosion), and Tess, who was out of the building. In the meantime Clark and Lana are with equal powers and again enjoying their relationship, but when they go to investigate the bomb explosion in Luthorcorp, after checking out on Oliver, they learn that the Toyman used kryptonite, which is absorbed by Lana's power suit. Chloe reluctantly helps Oliver to track the Toyman, whose name is Winslow Schott, and worked for Queen industries years ago. But Oliver wants the Toyman so he can find Lex, and once and for all, kill him. He knows Clark won't approve the idea, so he asks Chloe not to tell him. When the toyman tries to finish Oliver with a bomb in the hospital, he manages to subdue him and retrieve the bomb. Clark and Lana visit Winslow's hideout, and learn about his next target, the Daily Planet, and that he works for Lex. Yet, when they find the bomb, Lex, through a radio monitor installed there, reveals them his plan, to let the people die or to absorb the kryptonite in Lana's suit, and sacrifice being together ever again. They obviously choose this option, and even though Clark tries to find Lex for revenge, he fails, and Lex is seemingly killed in a explosion caused by Oliver. Clark finally is forced to break with Lana for good, and they say goodbye with a kiss, despite the pain for the kryptonite.

This was a memorable, unforgettable ending for the relationship between these two main characters, for Clark's first love. And was caused by Lex, which makes it poetical. But this ending ignored basically all season 7, and the beginning of season 8, with Clark already starting a new life in Metropolis by working next to Lois. First of all, how could Clark forget that Lana is vengative, that she manipulated people, that she lied to everyone, her love with Bizarro, Lex?? When they discussed all this in Siren, it was brilliant. They were distancing themselves, given their differences. And after Brainiac put her in coma, and when she woke up, the recorded message was perfectly done. Her thirst for power, her darkness, facility to lie, deceive, cheat, always were motives of why the relationship with Clark would never work. It was dysfunctional. So I don't get why here Clark forgot all that. And he also knows that so much power for a human is not something good, it always ended badly, like in Leech, Wrath. He said that on the last episode. So is not fair to end the relationship like this episode showed. Clark and Lana don't end up together, not because she had a suit full of kryptonite, they don't end up together because they don't belong together, Clark is a much more good, honest, truthful person. Besides, it's impossible what was written here, Clark would never give up his job as a reporter at the Daily Planet, and he couldn't forget the woman he is working with. Because Lois is not a consolation prize, she's Clark's true love, his future wife. So for those reasons, I preferred much more the ending of season 7 for Clark and Lana, or at least the words that were not said on this episode.

Then, about Lex, it wasn't fair either the way his story seemed to end. He's Superman's greatest enemy, and there wasn't shown a moment like in Onyx since he finally found out Clark's secret. Michael Rosenbaum's appearances ended abruptly and without good explanations for the fate of his character. Fortunately, this won't be the last time he'll be seen on Smallville. Oliver's part was great, he has a good side but a darkness that Clark doesn't have. Still, he's not as dark or thirsty of power as Lana. Oliver will remain as a hero.

I hate those episodes that try to force the emotions from you when they just won't come. This one is definitely at the top of my list. It's impossible for me to feel sorry for either Clark or Lana at the outcome of the situation when I've been waiting 8 seasons for this atrocity to end. Any sympathy I had for either character is long gone. I really don't understand how the writers could have their heads in the clouds so long in regards to this situation. Maybe if we didn't know the outcome with Clark and Lois I might have been able to swallow this annoying thing with Lana but as it stands it's just not happening.

And let's not overlook Lana's new and powerful suit that makes her such a special new girl. Lana needs to look up the definition of borderline personality disorder because she's definitely got some issues. No matter how many different ways I hear it I'll never believe that Lana wanted that suit just to "save the world". Lana wanted power and she proved that before whenever she had Clark's abilities for a day. Her whole power hungry vengeance was brushed aside and blamed on the powers but the truth is the powers didn't change her personality. Lana's definitely got a little identity crisis that she needs to deal with and giving her an all powerful suit is probably not the wisest idea. Not to mention that it feels almost like blasphemy that she of all people received those "special powers" to make her fit in with Clark. But yet again we end this episode with Lana being the perfect little martyr. It proves just how far writers were willing to go to make Lana and Clark work for some insane reason.

It also makes me a little angry that writers chose to end their relationship the way they did. Personally I would have liked for once to see Clark stand up and say you know what, maybe I do really love you but this just isn't going to work. And God knows they had their fair share of chances to make things work. There comes a point whenever you just have to accept the fact that it isn't working and count your losses. The fact that Clark wouldn't do this and kept fighting until the end, for something we know wasn't destined to be, honestly effected my opinion of him.

I thought back in the Season 7 finale that for once Lana did the honorable thing and decided to back away and let Clark live his life but even that was uncovered to be just a rouse. Instead of letting the characters take the moral high ground they chose instead to made it so that the two were forced apart by circumstances out of their control and by doing so put a damper on any relationship with Lois in the future. We're left knowing that given the chance Clark would still be with Lana and nothing would have ever happened with Lois. It's almost a disgrace to assume that Lois Lane is the rebound and that Clark is "settling" by being with her. Lois Lane isn't second best to anyone, especially Lana Lang. I just love how writers also chose to leave Lois out of all of these episodes involving Lana only to no doubt bring her back in the next episode as if nothing has even happened.

To a certain extent I can deal with it because, hey, real life is just as messy sometimes but the fact remains that it was always meant to be Lois and I feel that writers really screwed that up by taking the direction they did with Lana. Granted she's never been a character I liked and I always enjoyed Clark more with Chloe but whenever Lois came on the scene even Chloe got pushed to the background. I even understand that Clark is allowed to have more than one serious relationship but in my opinion the whole Lana situation was blown so way out of proportion it literally wasn't funny. To be honest, Lana was the main reason I quit watching the show live after only a few seasons.

We also get our first real glance at Lex since the finale of Season 7 and the absence of Michael Rosenbaum is definitely noticed. We're also seeing a darker side to Oliver which is interesting because I love his character. Hopefully now that the annoying Lana Lang is forever banished I can start enjoying the show again.

While this episode was good, my favorite part is the ultimate end to the due of "Clana".

Out of all the duplicitous characters throughout the seasons of Smallville, Lana Lang was, to me, the doom of Clark if she remained. I was sick of her...honestly!!

Why is it that everyone but Clark can see what a threat Lex is? Clark gets to act like he's taking the moral high ground by not killing Lex, even though Lex has killed, and will continue to kill if he's not stopped. By not killing Lex, and not allowing anyone else to Clark is in effect causing the deaths of whoever Lex decides to kill next. I also feel the need to agree with another reviewer over the way Clark and Lana's relationship ultimately ends. Not because either choose to walk away, but because they don't have a choice. The season 7 finale would have been a better way for their love story to end, but the writer's just couldn't resist forcing Lana back in there for one more go round. I'm sorry, but Lana's story should have ended 3 or 4 seasons ago. Dragging it out only hurt the show in the long run, and this episode's lame attempt at making me feel something for these character's "heart-breaking" sacrifice is pathetic. I stopped caring about Clark and Lana long ago. That is if I ever cared about them in the first place. I don't think I did. I always thought Chloe was a better fit for Clark, but Lana always stood in the way of that. As another reviewer said this makes it seem like Clark is settling for Lois in the end, and that if he'd had a choice he would have chosen Lana. Clark and Lois are meant to be, but the way this show is written you would think it's Clark and Lana who were meant to be. The whole thing is just ridiculous, and not fair to the character of Lois. Lois deserved better than to be Clark's consolation prize on Smallville. If I weren't (for some insane reason) dedicated to seeing this thing through I would walk away right now. Good riddance Lana. By overstaying your welcome you have essentially ruined any chance at a believable Clark and Lois love story given the limited 2 1/2 seasons remaining. It's wrong to put this blame on the character though? It's the writer's who are truly at fault here. Just one more addition to the long list of things Smallville got wrong about Superman. What else is new?

So Lana Lang absorbed the kryptonite and had to leave Clark because he couldn't go near her while she was wearing the Prometheus suit.. Isn't the suit removable?

Why is Clark such a simp in Smallville? Over Lana Lang who can't make up her mind about what she wants.

The writers have done a good job with the series as a whole but writing characters off is their kryptonite I guess.. Also what was with Clark not being able to fly until the final episode? He remained strong long distance runner man rather than Superman the whole series which was annoying....
