The cast of “Spider-Man: Homecoming” includes no shortage of famous faces, including two Oscar nominees and two full-on Oscar winners. But anyone paying close attention while watching this weekend’s box office winner might have noticed a number of other familiar faces. In fact, director Jon Watts has packed nearly every small supporting role he could with a niche comedian or former child star on the verge of adulthood.

Okay fantasy film fans, here’s a quick memory quiz for you (if you’re well past twenty). You recall what you were doing on that first weekend of May fifteen years ago (can’t be that long ago)? There’s a very good chance that you were making movie history by smashing the existing three-day box office total for a new film. Its title? Why the biggest film of 2002, Sony Pictures’ Spider-man directed by Sam Raimi and starring Tobey Maguire. For fans of superhero cinema, that year has the same importance as 1978 (Superman The Movie directed by Richard Donner and starring Christopher Reeve) and 1989 (Batman directed by Tim Burton and starring Michael Keaton…more about him soon). Sure, Superman and Batman had been the subject of low-budget movie serials, a story shown in weekly installments, usually a staple of “kiddie” matinees until the mid 1950’s. The Dark Knight had...

Six seasons and a movie? Six seasons, a movie, and then a seventh season? Six seasons and goodbye? Where exactly do things stand with "Community"? The sitcom wrapped its sixth season, and first as part of Yahoo Screen, with an episode that felt even more like a series finale than any of the previous maybe-kinda-sorta finales. (Spoilers follow.) "Emotional Consequences of Broadcast Television" had Jeff and the other characters speculating on what a "season 7" of their adventures might look like, and which characters would be a part of it. Jeff eventually made peace with the idea that he'll likely be the last member of the original study group still at Greendale, and he sent Abed and Annie off for new job opportunities in Hollywood and with the FBI, respectively. On top of that, Gillian Jacobs and Ken Jeong already have new series jobs lined up. At an La Times event on Tuesday,...

- Two weeks into its midseason run and "The Walking Dead" continues to take ratings gold in the key 18-49 demo over the Winter Olympics. Lifetime has ordered a second season of Devious Maids, which started slow but picked up viewers as it went along. I’m feeling mixed about this news. I’ve been enjoying Maids‘ first season (mostly) but I dont’ trust Marc Cherry to keep a serial going past a promising first season.

Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23 alum Dreama Walker will be showing up on New Girl, TVLine reports. She’ll be playing a mean girl of a teacher at Jess‘ new school.
Speaking of Apartment 23, creator Nahnatchka Khan has sold a comedy to ABC, according to Deadline. Kahn is working on adapting chef Eddie Huang‘s memoir Fresh off the Boat.
Nick Jonas will appear in an episode of Hawaii Five-0 as a hacker who gets involved with the team’s next case.

The Screen Actors Guild has announced their list of nominations for the best performances of 2011. I have to point out that I'm surprised Tom Hardy and Joel Edgarton weren't nominated for their roles in Warrior, because they were pretty damn awesome in that film. I think they deserved a nom more than Leonardo DiCaprio. I'm a huge fan of DiCaprio but his performance in J. Edgar wasn't his best. Brad Pitt will end up taking home the award for Moneyball though. It was great to see Bridesmaids and The Help get a nomination for best ensemble cast. It will be interesting to see who takes home the award on this list, and how many of them will make their way to the Oscars.
Who would you like to see take home the award?

Actor Benjamin Walker (who appeared in Flags of Our Fathers, All Saints Day and Coach) has been hired by Fox to play the lead role as Abe in the upcoming Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter movie.
A few months ago we posted an article about The Fox adaptations of Seth Grahame-Smith fantasy graphic novel “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.” It was reported Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted, Night Watch) would direct, Tim Burton would produce, and Seth Grahame-Smith was hired to adapt his book into a screenplay. "Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth, upon this continent, a new actor, conceived by Mrs. Walker..." Deadline reports that up-and-coming 28 year old actor Benjamin Walker has landed the lead role in Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, that awesome new adaptation of Seth Graham-Smith's novel that's being directed by Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted). Walker appeared in Flags of Our Fathers, All Saints Day and Coach, and was in the running for Hank McCoy in X-Men: First Class, but it looks like this will be his breakout role. He beat others like Eric Bana, Adrien Brody, Oliver Jackson-Cohen & Josh Lucas. The Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter story kicks off with the revelation that Lincoln's mother was killed by a supernatural creature, which fueled his passion to crush vampires and their slave-owning helpers. The book depicts the 16th Us president as an axe-throwing highly trained vampire killer. With shooting already set ...

As "Friday Night Lights" prepares to take the field for the last time, those of us who are unhealthily over-invested in Coach Taylor are looking for something to numb the pain that will inevitably follow "Fnl's" final episode.
FX's "Lights Out" may be an unexpected contender. Holt McCallany plays Patrick "Lights" Leary, a former heavyweight boxing champion with an itch to return to the ring to support his wife and three daughters. The marketing has largely swayed toward the boxing aspect of the show, with posters displaying McCallany looking stone-faced and bloody, gloves up, but we're particularly drawn to the way the series taps into Leary's family life outside the ring.
If Coach Taylor parents like a coach, Leary parents like a boxer, as you can see from the clip below. Played by Meredith Hagner, Ryann Shane, and "Fringe's" Lily Pilblad, Leary's daughters bring out his softer side. Their boyfriends,...

On its surface, Coach was a film that almost begged me to rip it apart. From its goofy front cover to its tagline, “You can’t score without taking a shot,” I was checking to make sure I had enough alcohol in my apartment to make it through this movie. After having watched Coach, all I can say is that I was wrong about this movie. No one involved in this movie is likely to win any awards, but their target audience of teen girl sleepovers will enjoy this bit of lighthearted romantic entertainment.
Nick (Hugh Dancy) is unemployed and living off of the money his father willed to him. His upwardly mobile girlfriend Zoe (Gillian Jacobs) is fed up with his unmotivated lifestyle of playing soccer and going out for drinks with his friends, and before she flies out to California for a job opportunity, she suggests that they should take a break.

There's nothing more infuriating for some people to be told, "You have to watch this show." For a lot of folks, that's exactly how you get them not to watch the show. I have no doubt I've driven as many people away from watching "Friday Night Lights," as I've encouraged others to see it (let it be known, however, that those who do break down and give in to it are not disappointed). So, you know what: Watch whatever the fuck you want to watch. If you come home after a hard day at the office and just want to plop your ass down in front of "Hoarders," and wallow in the misery of others, who am I to discourage that? I don't care what you watch. It's your life. If "CSI: Wyoming" does the trick for you, then let it be, man. To each their own.
But I'll tell...

Watching the trailer for Coach, it's easy to think it's just another film about a guy who finds his worth (and a woman) coaching a kids' team (in this case, soccer). But it's not. It has Hugh Dancy! Also, Community's Gillian Jacobs, as the soon-to-be ex girlfriend who insists he do something with his life, and Last Chance Harvey's Liane Balaban, as the doctor who actually makes him want to be a better man. Are you a sucker for these films, too? Or does the man-child-coming-of-age romantic sports dramedy genre need to be retired?...

The 2007 movie Evening received bad reviews and was seen by about eight people, but it appears that one good thing came from the production. AP reports that beautiful actress Claire Danes has married her co-star from that film, equally beautiful actor Hugh Dancy. Combined, the pair are so pretty that if you look directly at them, you'll permanently scar your corneas.
For those of you who enjoy a whiff of scandal with your celebrity news, the Claire/Dancy (should we call them "Clancy?") romance began amid rumors that Danes entered the liaison while still involved with boyfriend Billy Crudup. This was only interesting because when Danes and Crudup began dating, there were rumors that she'd broken up Crudup's relationship with a then-pregnant Mary-Louise Parker. Whether any of this is true is anyone's guess, but when exceptionally lovely people break up and then start sleeping with other lovely people, the tabloids start sharpening their sticks.
