Sauron’s rise in Season 2 of “Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” will begin August 29 when the new installment of Amazon Prime Video’s fantasy series based on J.R.R. Tolkien IP arrives on the streamer. Prime Video released a teaser trailer and behind-the-scenes featurette Monday. Based on parts of Tolkien’s posthumous “The Silmarillion,” the series has a planned arc of five seasons.

The drama series takes place thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Hobbit” and “The Lord of the Rings” books with an ensemble cast of familiar faces mixed with new characters. Pedro Pascal has reportedly left Zach Cregger’s next film Weapons as Marvel’s Fantastic Four is looking to start production in Q3.
Pedro Pascal might just be the busiest man in Hollywood. The 48-year-old actor is one of the most in demand leading men in La La Land currently. He’s currently busy with prep for The Last Of Us season 2 which begins filming in February.
Pascal appeared at the Golden Globes with his arm in a sling, but that will not hinder production on The Last Of Us season 2. People who have played the game might be able to figure out why…
He’s also rumoured to be starring in Marvel’s Fantastic Four movie as Reed Richards and will also appear in Ridley Scott’s Gladiator 2 alongside Paul Mescal.

The early autumn slump has been reversed.
France’s box office bounced back in November following a downturn in September and October with 15.1 million ticket sales, a total gross of €108.8m based on an average ticket price of €7.2.
However, admissions were still down 19.6% from the pre-pandemic 2017-2019 average for the month.
It was enough to assure solid annual figures to date with ticket sales hitting upwards of 162.8 million admissions (€1.17bn), above 2022’s full year 152 million admissions but below the 2017-2019 pre-pandemic average of 208 million tickets per year. Estimates suggest 2023 will reach between 180-190 million.

The ‘Gladiator’ sequel is reportedly set to resume shooting in Malta on 4 December.Shooting on the follow-up to Ridley Scott’s historical epic was delayed during the actors strike that paralysed Hollywood, but the announcement on 8 November that their SAG-AFTRA union had reached a tentative agreement on a new three-year contract has enabled studios to move forward on several productions.Sources told Variety the filming schedule for ‘Gladiator 2’ is back on track, with Paramount Pictures due to distribute the sequel globally after an opening date of 22 November 2024. The actors strike lasted for 118 days and was resolved after studios gave the union first-ever protections for the use of artificial intelligence in film and television shows, along with a historic pay increase. Paul Mescal, 27, will take the lead in ‘Gladiator 2’, which will also star Denzel Washington, 68, and 48-year-old Pedro Pascal.Connie Nielsen, 58, and Derek Jacobi, 85, who appeared in the 2000 original,...

Marvel Studios is homing in on a Mr. Fantastic. Pedro Pascal is in talks to star as Reed Richards in Fantastic Four, marking perhaps the most significant casting move since the end of the actors strike earlier this month.
Sources say scheduling is a factor in whether the deal will work out, and the current status of the talks is unclear. Marvel had no comment. The genre-centric journalist Daniel Richtman first reported the news of Pascal’s casting on his Patreon account.
For more than a year, speculation has run rampant over who will star in Fantastic Four, and Pascal’s casting would give Marvel a popular and notable star in the franchise as it seeks to move beyond the Infinity Saga-era stable of actors.
Pascal is is the star of The Last of Us, the breakout HBO series that has a season two in the works, as well as Disney+’s The Mandalorian.

For many people, Daisy Ridley will always be known as the star of the most recent “Star Wars” sequel trilogy films. Even though those ended in 2019 and she has gone on to make other films, the proverbial stink of “Star Wars” lingers all around Ridley to this day. (It sure won’t help matters that she is expected to return to the franchise in the future.) But for those hoping to see Ridley do more than swing a lightsaber and talk about The Force, you should probably check out “Sometimes I Think About Dying.”

As seen in the trailer for the film, “Sometimes I Think About Dying” tells the story of a lonely woman, Fran, who is perfectly content with living her quiet life, working in her cubicle, and… well, not much else.

Hollywood’s historic double strike has shut down the vast majority of productions across the country but not all of them.
On Tuesday, SAG-AFTRA approved certain productions that aren’t affiliated with any of the struck studios or streamers to keep filming. The list includes David Lowery’s Mother Mary and Rebel Wilson comedy Bride Hard.
Independent productions not affiliated with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers members can apply for waivers from SAG-AFTRA to continue production, the union stated. The waivers mostly apply to independent projects, though Biblical project The Chosen was granted one to finish filming its fourth season even though Lionsgate has distribution rights. Members can work on these shoots without being in violation of the strike order.
To be granted a waiver, a production must sign an interim agreement that “would largely be conformed to the AMPTP agreement on a going-forward basis once the membership ratifies successor agreements,...

The Television Critics Association awards nominations went public Friday, and it was great news for some series and sad news for others.
The Last of Us, The Bear, and Succession are in a three-way tie with five nominations apiece.
All three shows were expected to get some awards love, so their performances here are not surprising.
The Bear has been a bonafide hit for FX and Hulu, but there were some more first-year shows in the mix, too.
Andor, Jury Duty, Shrinking, Interview With the Vampire, and Poker Face were all well-represented.
Somewhat surprising: Ted Lasso and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel were shut out.
The news comes after both series have been big hits on the awards front and could set a precedent for upcoming awards shows.
Awards will be handed out at an in-person ceremony on August 7, 2023.

How much sympathy do average working people have for Hollywood actors? Not much, I suspect. Fancy trailers, high-end catering, and eye-watering salaries are not the hallmarks of a tough gig. However, it's not all luxury and dollar signs, especially in the extravagant science fiction genre. On-set accidents have injured performers such as Charlize Theron, who was nearly paralyzed while making "Æon Flux," and Carrie-Ann Moss, whose botched cartwheel in "The Matrix" caused a nasty ankle injury
Such incidents remind us of why stunt people are needed to protect a production's cast and crew from accidents and injuries. But what about the threat of illness? Who is responsible for that and what danger does it pose to a multi-million dollar project with a tight schedule and a tighter budget? Well, a lesser danger than injury, it seems, but there is still a precedent for actorly illnesses -- and the causes range...

Daisy Ridley To Star In ‘The Better Liar’ Series Based On Book In Works At Amazon From Raelle Tucker
Exclusive: Amazon Studios has partnered with The Tornante Company to develop The Better Liar, a drama series based on the book by the same name by Tanen Jones. Daisy Ridley is set to star in and executive produce the adaptation, written and executive produced by Raelle Tucker (True Blood), Deadline has learned.
Raelle Tucker (Photo by Derek White/Getty Images for Scad)
In The Better Liar, when a woman hires a lookalike in an effort to conceal her sister’s death and claim their shared inheritance, her deception exposes a web of dangerous secrets. Siobhan Bachman also executive produces for The Tornante Company.
This would mark the first starring TV role for Ridley, probably best known for playing Rey in the Star Wars franchise. She has been filming the noir thriller Magpie, based on a story she had developed, and will next be seen in The Marsh King’s Daughter and Young Woman and the Sea.

Britain produces cop shows with an abandon that defies our present moment’s global supply shortages. Just this week, ITV launches two new procedurals – Ridley and The Suspect – while the BBC brings back its hit surveillance drama, The Capture, for a second season. It is a national addiction on a scale usually reserved for tea consumption, football hooliganism and insincere apologies. Within this obsession, The Capture represents the genre at its classiest and, though it might upset some patriots at our state broadcaster to say so, at its most American.
Holliday Grainger – surely one of the most charismatic actors to remain predominantly constrained to the small screen – returns as Rachel Carey, now promoted to Dci and working within the bubble of Correction. Actor Adrian Dunbar, who played Superintendent Hastings in six seasons of Jed Mercurio’s smash hit BBC series “Line of Duty,” has speculated about a seventh season.
Dunbar told The Times of London: “There’s a big appetite for more ‘Line of Duty.’ It could be three or four episodes, I don’t think there’s going to be six for some reason. It might be two 90 minutes. But it’s all entirely down to Jed what the storyline is going to be. It’s a big ask for him.”
Season six of the drama, which revolves around an anti-corruption unit in the U.K. police, concluded with a big reveal that evoked mixed reactions from the audience.
“It may not have been dramatically satisfying and I can understand why people went, ‘Oh my God!’ But it was a proper way to conclude, to show that actually some of the biggest...

Steve Coogan has spotlighted his and Sarah Solemani’s use of comedy to tackle the #MeToo debate in upcoming Channel 4 show Chivalry and talked openly about playing Jimmy Savile, stating: “Things are better talked about than not talked about.”
The Philomena and Lost King star told Deadline the aim with Chivalry, which comes from his BBC Studios-backed indie Baby Cow, was to make a show about “love and respect” that could make people laugh, while using humor to open up a wider debate.
Coogan and Solemani play the lead roles in Chivalry, having come up with the concept during the filming of Michael Winterbottom’s Greed when they found themselves debating the issues regularly and at length.
Also starring Sienna Miller, Wanda Sykes and Aisling Bea, the show features Coogan as Cameron, a successful film producer and “ladies man,” and Ridley Road creator Solemani as Bobby, a passionate indie-darling filmmaker.
